If you do have a negative experience, I suggest speaking with Kerri. Even though I came off pretty aggressive with her, she was understanding, allowed me to vent, and then helped me completely rectify the situation. Regardless, they are a no-kill rescue. I give this rescue 1 star. They beg and cry on Facebook because they can't pay their bills. Vet bills and bills to run the facility. They e even made post about dogs being unhealthy because they've stayed at their facility for so long. However, they make so many restrictions for even adopting from them. I tried to adopt from them and even though I had grown up with the same breed of dog in my home I was told I couldn't adopt one of their dogs because I was a teena and not my parent. I wasn't an adult and that the dog required so much knowledge that they claimed I didn't have. But how could that be when I literally explained my knowledge of the breed. I ended up purchasing my baby from a breeder, but it's unfortunate they don't want to encourage rescuing. I understand vetting people to make sure animals go to a good home. But they should be less restrictive when it comes to letting people adopt. If I'm already paying $400+ to adopt I'm not in it to be a harmful owner. People don't have money to waste. perhaps then they would have money to run their facility instead of constantly begging. I even see they have so many requirements to foster. You either need help or don't. They made a post about a dog that was severely overweight because it's locked in a cage for multiple hours a day. How could they even let that happen. Smh. Terrible interaction through email. Did not answer my questions or explain the process within their rescue. When I emailed again with my question, there was then no response. A couple days later I made a comment on their page about trying to get an application and instead I was met with an attitude. Gas lighting and redirecting blame. Then I received an email the following day; not in response to my original email but in response to my comment on fb, stating " I'm sorry you feel that way" When I responded back with my issue and concerns I was told "Please do not contact us again" Apparently explaining the adoption process within emails was too much of a task for them. A response about their application process when I asked twice, would have been ideal. Bad and unprofessional attitudes. Communication is horrible and these people can't take responsibility. Clearly this isn't the first review for Karri's rude behavior. I kindly emailed them asking for an application. She then asked me for what animal I'd like an application for. I said I was interested in a dog that was not yet available but I wanted an application to be prepared and learn about the adoption process (which is encouraged per their pinned post on Facebook), and she responded in all caps 'READ POST...NO MESSAGES'. I then replied reiterating my initial email explaining I wanted to be prepared and learn about the adoption process. My initial email did not even mention the dog until she asked. She then began to state it was rude to email about a dog that was not yet available as it took away from current animals (although their Facebook encourages rescuers to email them with any questions. See snippet). She was responding to my emails within minutes (seconds even) so if she had time to email me back so fast, I'm sure it wouldn't have been an issue to provide me with information regarding the adoption process. All in all, be prepared to be deal with a person who lacks patience, customer service skills, and professionalism. I hope she at least has patience for the pups in her care. read more

If they want to work with you guys I'm so sorry for the owner who even hired that clown. My experience with direct messaging them has been nothing but grief. I contacted them on Instagram asking a few question about a puppy, but they were nothing but short and obviously annoyed. Turned my stay at home mother away because she has a dog that is not fixed, even though the dog she was trying to adopt was spayed and she has no interest in puppies. I cannot thank this rescue enough for my baby! I adopted the sweetest little puppy last week and the application process was thorough but easy! I live about an hour and a half to 2 hours away and it was sooo worth the drive. They provided all of her medical and vaccine records and had her spayed before I picked her up. They continued to deny and not care about the puppy or others. They delete and block Facebook comments. Please check out your pup if you adopted from there and be prepared for expensive vet bills. Please heed the other negative reviews. As cliche as this sounds, I wish I could give negative 10 stars. The dog we adopted was purposely misrepresented to be "1-2 years old" to my poor fiancé who doesn't have as much experience with dogs as I do and is also too naive and nice to question someone whom you would think knew what they were talking about. I wasn't able to take a day off work to go with him. Our main concerns were that we needed a dog who would be good with small children and other pets and not be super territorial. The second I saw the dog, I knew she was clearly over 2 years old and had had at least one litter of pups as she still looked freshly post partum, which may have explained some of her behaviors. They did not tell my fiancé that they were taking her from a fresh litter of babies that were also up for adoption at the time. Anyway, that is neither here nor there, just an extra layer of shadiness. The dog had terrible abandonment issues and was INSANELY territorial over my fiancé. She knocked me and my niece over, scratched my nephew's face and I didn't feel safe. I reached out to Karri, I believe, (I could not care less if that's spelled correctly) and the amount of concern (absolutely ZERO) that she showed for the dog and the children was astounding. Conversation attached. All she cares about is money and she pockets money while fosters take care of the dogs. She not once asked if my nephew was ok, the second we asked to return the dog she posted her again for the full adoption fee. We had asked that our fee go towards the next adopter & offered all food/supplies we had left as well since we actually care about the dog's well being. She stopped responding to messages and was completely unprofessional and just seemed like an uncaring, greedy person in addition to the lack of professionalism. I would not recommend that anyone deal with her nor give her your hard earned money though I do feel bad for the dogs. She's nice to people when it benefits her image, but doesn't care about the common "pupz " or "palz ". I am Thoroughly disgusted by her behavior and have tried to not say anything since we have mutual contacts, but I don't want someone else to be deceived. Pupz N Palz is a fantastic organization that are doing the best they can on limited resources, volunteers, and funds. Their adoption fees are $300 for puppies which includes spaying/neutering (only in Modesto) and microchipping. Some might say this is a little high for an adoption fee, but these animals are not just being shoved in a cage until someone decides to give them a home. A foster mother cares for them, plays with them, and starts them on shots and gives them any needed medications which obviously all costs money. As with any pet purchase or adoption, there are always risks that the animal is not healthy or has not been taken cared of properly, be it a pet store or an animal shelter. This organization actually rescues animals from other shelters before they are euthanized and takes in animals that are homeless or lost. Thanks to Pupz N Palz we ended up adopting an adorable healthy pup we absolutely fell in love with the moment we laid eyes on her. Our application was approved, email correspondence was fast, and an appointment was secured promptly. Upon arrival, the foster mother's home was clean and I could tell she cared about each and every one of the pups (she was housing the entire litter). They gave us all the necessary info about the puppy and answered all of our questions. The microchipping was done on the spot and she was ours to take home! We took her to the vet a few days later for a check up just to be sure everything was A-OK because unpredictable and unfortunate things do happen. I have nothing but good things to say about Karri -- without her, I would not have the cutest and most lovable dog in the world, Chewy! I was in the process of adopting a different puppy from a different rescue/foster organization but the person I was speaking with was so flaky and made me wait 2 weeks before I could even see the dog so I gave up on that. I kept looking everyday on PetFinder for a puppy that fit what I was looking for and saw Chewy's (then Roscoe) photo and instantly fell in love! Karri called me back within hours and sent me the application. Since she lived in Modesto, I wasn't able to come over right away and in the two days before I was able to come over, two other people expressed interest in adopting Chewy. Bless Karri's heart for holding him for me still! When I came over, you could tell that Karri really loves all her foster dogs. They run freely in her home and are very comfortable and safe. We instantly had a connection with Chewy and knew that he was the dog for us. Karri gave us all of his paperwork. He was UTD on almost all his shots and was neutered and microchipped. Since he needed a rabies shot, Karri knocked off the cost from what we paid for Chewy and even gave us coupons for a free vet check up. I could not have been happier with our experience with Pupz N Palz and if I had more resources, I would adopt another one from them again. We have adopted a puppy from Pupz N Palz, and the process was rather smooth once the application was approved! We love our puppy, and we are grateful that there is this group of rescue saving the doggies and kitten's lives. If it wasn't for the rescue, many of these animals would've been dead and have no where to go. I am not going to lie, it does require lots of patience during the adoption process. They might not seen your application right away, or the animal you want might been adopted, or you might not meet the criteria right away. But I would encourage you not to give up, and be persistent. Keep on communicate with them via email, or facebook. I am sure that the one that God wants you to have will come to you eventually. We need more patience in this process is because these rescues they are non profit and short staffed, and they have lots of animals that they are watching over. Remember, this is a non-kill rescue, meaning that they can't just get rid of the animals. You can imagine how many animals that they have to manage now. Remember, if it wasn't for them, lots of these animals would be dead and homeless. so please please be patience with the rescues and the staff, they are doing a job that you wouldn't want to do yourself. Regarding to complain about the fee and how the rescue just wanted money. Please fact check how much it actually cost for all the things that the animal comes with. Most of the animals got vaccines, microchipped, spayed/neuters, dewormed. The rescues are giving you the animal at a lost... They still have to pay for the facility, utility, food, medicine, vet and other miscellaneous things for these animals that they are trying to save! The rescues provides everything that foster needs, so please stop saying that these rescue is out for your money... If you really care for the animals, and you don't have the capacity to foster or volunteer, then please at least be nice and be patient with the staff and the rescue centers! read more

So far so good...we filled out adoption paper work but can not see puppys till weekend. Only take cash $300 . I tried the shelter in Modesto and it was really tough looking at the all the dogs. Its a bit overwhelming. My husband had to go outside it was just too much to see. We found a dog but the owner came for the little guy. She messaged us back about a puppy my family was very interested in, and within moments of submitting our application we were denied for the puppy due to us having a toddler in our home. We were told that this puppy was hyper, and nibbled. This shelter is denying good homes for something any puppy we will add to our home will do. In addition to the reasoning, her emails were very unprofessional. It was very unbecoming of the shelter. It was also challenging to contact the shelter as they only have a number for emergencies and function solely on email, which the ad said was not always functioning properly. I'd like to chip in on a recent potential adoption experience my girlfriend and I had with Pupz N Palz. First, I would like to state that the reason for my review was a horrible lack of communication and evident disorganization. I'm sure many loving and healthy dogs have found equally loving homes through here, but that doesn't mean my experience was that. It definitely wasn't. THE COMMUNICATION: Our effort to adopt a dog at the Eggstravaganza event started with an email to Karri and an application with a flyer. I sent it back as soon as I could fill it out, and was told that there were other apps ahead of us. There was no indication as to who would be told when, if the dog would be available to adopt at the event, etc. I responded back with this question: "Do you happen to know when those who are approved would be notified? I know you are an all-volunteer shop and apologize for the question, just checking since again it's a pretty far drive for us to get to Modesto." There was no response to this email. Due to a previous response from Karri, which said "ready to go for our event this Sat" it was assumed that the dog might just be a part of a larger adoption event and not have to go through the regular process that a normal rescue might do, such as a home visit and inspection, owner profile, etc. If there was already a family that had gone through the process of meeting the dog and had arranged to adopt them on Saturday (as has been explained on their Facebook page) it *should* have crossed their minds to let the others know that the dog was off the market and unavailable for adoption instead of letting us figure out if it is or isn't. This is a commitment for us and not an easy one if we are jerked around. IN PERSON: Overall, the event was a madhouse. It looked like there were too many people attending and not enough volunteers. The event showed just as much disorganization as the application and approval process. There was no central location or person to contact for information, but instead volunteers manning various booths that all appeared to be busy. If you are attending the event you'd have no way of knowing or finding out anything about the group. Inside Petco was very similar. There was a German Shepard there, named Sheba (IIRC), who was inside a crate that did not appear to be appropriate for her size. She was constantly barking and looked scared, and was not given any attention from the volunteers during our (rather extended) time there except to tell her to be quiet by hitting the cage. Not a great way of handling the dog - perhaps it needed to get out or away from the barking, but it did appear stressed. I finally was able to speak to Karri for a brief minute about our adoption, in which she stated that there was already a family inside who showed up to look at her, and walked away. There was no mention that the family was adopting them, no mention of anything, just that and then nothing. She also seemed to be the photographer, event manager, and liason - too much for one person to do, and because of it, everyone lost out. THE PROCESS: We were not informed of any process besides filling out a self-guided application which was a few pages. From other rescues, I know that often they like having a volunteer check out the place to make sure it is good for the dog, a meet and greet with the potential adopters, etc. - again, our app was in late, but even so we were never informed of any process and no such information is available anywhere on the web, it seems. FACEBOOK: Karri took to Facebook to slam the recent yelpers. I believe that's unfair and unprofessional, especially including threats of legal action. No, you learn from it and build on it, not get whiny and bratty. You learn and adapt, not hate on others. As a business owner, you should learn to respond to the customer to find out why they had the experience they did. IN CONCLUSION: I appreciate what volunteers do. I volunteer myself and it's time out of your day. However, there are times when you can admit that it's not your best, or that maybe there are things that could be run better. Many NPO's are able to sustain things and run efficiently. I again appreciate the effort of helping rescue dogs and get them to loving homes, but when there is such chaos and disorganization, it leaves seasoned adopters looking elsewhere because they are left with nothing but questions. In the end, we adopted from a shelter in Sacramento - both my girlfriend and I have adopted dogs from either rescues or municipal shelters for a combined 18 years, and all of our dogs have been fine. We are not bad dog owners, we love our pets very much and do not appreciate the vitrol that some people spew because they assume that since a bad review is left about a volunteer organization that they are horrible people who should never be talked to again. Bad reviews help you get better as an organization. Learn from it, don't bash others. read more

Awful communication, disorganized event, not very nice people and God forbid if you have an opinion that differs with theirs. I recently attended one of their adoption events, the Eggstravaganza at Petco on Evergreen in Modesto. I submitted an application via email three days prior for a specific dog. I did not receive a confirmation of receipt, I was not contacted in any way, shape or form. A thanks but no thanks would have sufficed... just sayin. I'm really not a difficult person to deal with. The event was pretty chaotic and disorganized inside of Petco. I did not partake in any of the activities in the parking lot so I cannot provide commentary with regard to the vendors. Some of the Pupz N Palz folks attempted to be helpful and its likely that these were volunteers. It was clear that whoever organized this lacked the skills necessary to pull off an event that was well organized with leadership and direction. My daughter and I witnessed the animal of interest being choked on the end of a leash. A little girl was holding the leash and had no adult supervision. Leading me to have some concern for this animal's safety. When I made mention of this incident on their facebook page I was promptly ostracized and slammed with negative commentary. I did respond in my defense, whoever moderates the page supplied a snippy reply and then blocked me so that I could not further defend myself. Good riddance! There are SO many other deserving rescues. Unfortunately this is not one of them. I feel sorry for the animals that they "care" for and hopefully this was an isolated incident. I'm sorry I ever donated to this group and wish I'd read the reviews first. Seems as though I'm not the only one with an unfavorable opinion and experience with them. 4/21/14: It has been brought to my attention that this rescue group continues with their negative commentary and slander of me on their facebook page. They have made false allegations and statements and have threatened to release my personal information to other rescue organizations to add me to a "do not adopt" list. She goes on to state that I belittled a child and her family which is not true and further alleges that my pug had major medical issues and that I let my animal get out of my yard and never got her back. Contrary to her statement, my pug was lost while in the care of a veterinary clinic. She was taken to potty off leash and has not been recovered to-date. She had no major medical issues. They continue with their derogatory commentary for an HONEST review based on my experience with them. This is not about not getting a dog that I had an interest in, this is about a poorly run organization, with even poorer communication skills, has demonstrated their inability to implement any resolution skills, attacked and slandered me on their facebook page for reporting a witness account at one of their events, and has essentially resorted to bullying and inciting a mob like mentality on their facebook page. She should check her facts before throwing false statements out on their public facebook page. This, in my opinion, further speaks to the character of whomever "runs" this group. 4/22/14: I received an email this morning time stamped 6:45 AM threatening me with civil action, specifically that she would sue me for slander/libel. The email was also laced with additional insults and included a threat in writing stating, "I will NOT take down my post and WILL wend out a do not adopt to ALL local rescues unless you take your post down now... end of story." First, I never asked that her post be removed. She's entitled to her opinions no matter how ridiculous or off base they may be. And yes, it really said "wend" and not send. Closing statement, "If this is not resolved you will be receiving a seize and desist notice to take down from our attorney. I will not be bullied by someone simply because they did not get their way!!" For starters, I think she was after the word "cease". I look forward to the opportunity of speaking with said attorney to set the record straight. At least I might get someone to actually review the facts and not stand on fabrication, false statements, unfounded allegations and continued harassment.
