Might as well have been a buffet... self serve beer... good idea but poorly executed. Most confusing experience ever. We were trying to figure out how to order food... should we go to the hostess? Do we have a server? Is there a buffet? Are there menus? Do they serve food here... oh, here she finally comes with menus. Perfect. We're starving... let's get an appetizer...pretzel bites. YUM. Well it took so long that we ordered our app and entrees at the same time. You would think the appetizer would come out first but nope... plop... here's all of the food you ordered at once. No thought whatsoever. We really didn't want a side of pretzel bites, if we would've known it was all coming together we would've scrapped the app altogether. Two stars for the food, it was delicious, however very overpriced for the quality of service. We interacted with the hostess more than whoever was supposed to be our server. Just get a buffet- patrons are already basically serving themselves. My husband got us waters, napkins and silverware just in buckets on the tables. I think the concept would catch on a bit more rather than being confusing and frustrating. Or don't serve food at all. Have food trucks come. Would have been better than the confusing experience we had. Don't go if you're hungry... just go to drink. read more

This a fun place to visit with a large group as you can sit at large tables inside or out! They have a good selection of tap beers that are set up for self serve. The food is good for this type of setting. read more

Everything was actually pretty good except the cheese plate which could have been served on a saucer it was that sparse, with maybe two ounces total at best of two very ordinary cheeses and a few crackers for $12.... should have got the burger. This is an update to my last review. Haven't been here since they relaunched it with the open taps. The food is terrible now, service mediocre and the interior lost all its character. So sad. Used to love this place. The only good thing is the price of the beer is reasonable. (I don't drink beer but my husband does). I could see coming back for a drink on a summer afternoon but this will not be a lunch destination going forward. read more

My son convinced me the serve-yourself option could be interesting, but it seemed to me an easy way to put bartenders out of jobs and reap greater profits. Then when we went to pay and had to stand in a line a mile long, I wasn't sure when faced with tip options what seemed reasonable. As far as service goes, we had one person take our order and another deliver our meal. No need to check in on drink refreshers or even delivering a check. Salads were tasty, but nothing I couldn't make at home pretty easily. Just not quite sure what to make of it or that I'd have been as happy with the experience without the Shakespeare folks. Two salads and two drinks (to be fair we might have poured generously) amounting to $65 seemed excessive for a serve-yourself joint. read more

I attended a happy hour that was hosted at this establishment. The beer hall is very spacious and the reserved space for our event was perfect. They provided tokens to keep track of the included free drinks. The appetizers they provided (wings, edamame, pretzel bites) were all well received. The staff was very attentive and quick to get drinks. Would recommend for anyone looking for a venue for a small group. read more

I, too, had high hopes that Stanley Beer Hall would be very similar to the Lowry Beer Garden...decent burgers, salads, snack food and drinks in a fun environment at a reasonable price. While the vibe/environment is cool (and will be fantastic in the summer) and our server was great, the portions were tiny and the food and drinks were WAY overpriced for what they were. I was really hoping they wouldn't try to make it too upscale, but they did. I hope they retool the concept. read more

Like so many others, had very high hopes for this place but, alas, its a major disappointment. Which is perplexing as they have the benefit of pretty much no fail circumstances - captive audience with money to spend. Where to begin... 1) the seating - the place is, apparently, designed to accommodate parties of 4 or 20, nothing in between. A couple of times when we've gone several of the large "booths" were open yet the host staff wouldn't seat us "in case any large parties come." Interesting strategy. 2) the waitstaff - at first we wondered if it was one of those "concept" places where the waitstaff are actors or something and them being rude to you is part of the gimmick and "fun" of it. Eye rolls and impatience abound. Most are not very attentive. A notable exception is Danielle - she is fabulous and they should attempt to clone her. 3) food - the prices are out of control. Last night it appeared they had added "large plates" that go as high as $24/plate. Guys, it's NOT that kind of party. And the food is meh at best. Well, actually, as a vegetarian, I can't comment on too much of the food as there appears to be no interest in accommodating the sizable veggie contingent in the area. The fries are generally decent so we hoped to get some last night to go with our beers but turns out they had closed to kitchen early due to so few people being there (gee, I wonder why? And on a Saturday night? Hmmm..) A late night menu with snacks - pretzels, popcorn, nuts, something along those lines - would be most appreciated. And/or noting somewhere that the kitchen actually closes well before the establishment does....also, helpful tip, salty snacks makes people thirsty, thirsty people buy more beer, you sell beer...just sayin'. But, really, would strongly encourage you to figure out who your target audience is as it feels totally out of touch on so many levels. Long story short, go for the beer, avoid the food. 4) business model- all of this, for me, adds up to questioning whether these folks could use a little advice on approaching this business. The community is rooting for you, it's a super easy win and, yet, it seems (so many poor reviews) to be missing the mark. I'm sure lots of folks - myself included - would be willing to be part of a focus group and/or offer some advice. There's no shame in asking for help! Turn this place around before it's too late and tarnishes the broader marketplace. read more

After Westword listed it as one of Denver's top burger restaurants, I was anxious to try it, but was disappointed. The burger was overcooked, although to their credit they took it off my bill. Their use of two patties isn't as good as one, and this doesn't compare with others in the area. The bun was just ok, and their tater tots don't compare with fries at other burger joints. read more

Oh how I wanted this to be amazing because I live in the hood, but after my first meal.... I am not coming back. This really disappoints me. I ordered the devils on horseback with grilled peppers. No where did it say what jalapeño ( or what ever the spicy pepper) peppers. It was way to hot to eat. The frisée salad was bland and the review said it was great, but it was not great. Maybe it was the fact that it was 90% spinach and not frisée. Or maybe it was the fact that there was no dressing. I don't like a lot of dressing, but this had nothing. The hot dog my husband got was ok, but nothing special. The service was ok. All of the others got their hot food while I had to wait for a salad. Our server mentioned issues with the kitchen. The cocktail, only one listed, was good and so potent I had to wait to a while to drive home. They do have liquor, but only one speciality cocktail. There are a ton of beers, so if you like beer and aren't too worried about food, then this may be a place to stop by. Also, there is a kids menu. read more

Here's a place you don't need to go to. Wildly overpriced small portions. Had the Mac and Cheese, Devils on horseback, double cheeseburger, chicken sandwich and one beer, $53 before tip. And we left hungry. One app came out with the beer and less than a minute later our sandwiches. My $14 chicken sandwich was cold by the time I got to it. Then ten minutes later our second app arrived. The burger looked like it was from Wendy's and presented just as well. Very disappointing. Avoid the food and maybe just enjoy the beer. read more

We had lunch here this week, and overall it was quite good. We sat outside at a large picnic style table and really enjoyed it, however the inside space is attractive as well. We shared the Brussels Sprouts appetizer and it was pretty good, not the best we've had, but good. We both ordered the double cheeseburger after reading it was voted one of the best burgers in Denver. The burgers were actually quite good. It was two thin beef patties, cheese and a special sauce they make to go on the burger that made it very tasty. It had a few too many onions for my taste but they were easily removed next time I'll just order without the grilled onions. It reminded me of a gourmet version of a big Mac You can have a side of fries or a salad we both opted for the fries they were fresh, and hot, and the thinner almost shoestring style and they were quite good. The service was excellent. I would definitely go back. read more

Stanley Beer Hall has a nicely done, modern, stylish interior that portends a wonderful, beer garden experience once warmer weather comes. So, this business has great promise. At present, though, it's still on a shakedown cruise following its recent opening. Wait staff was somewhat inattentive on a recent visit, and one of the waitresses was downright insulting. (I think she thought she was being funny.) Mixed drinks were done poorly (yes, it's a beer garden, but if you're going to claim to have a full bar, please do it properly.) Managers need to make sure servers and bartenders are all quality hires and that they are ready for prime time. read more

Had a weird dinner at the beer hall where we were scolded for sitting wrong. I have been here several times and it is ok. The food is tasty and the beer menu is great. However, the service has always been kind of okay. This place has a large area for outdoor seating. It used to be open seating or at least at times was open seating. We came on a Saturday night before 5. Since we had 2 little kids in tow and a big stroller, we decided to sit outside. We went through the restaurant (no host at the stand, no signs anywhere about seating and no one waiting at the host stand either so we did not "cut" a line) and found part of a picnic table outside. We were then approached by the hostess and told that it was not open seating. I was so sure it was open seating that at first I heard her wrong and thought she said it was. That seemed to annoy her. Then I said I thought it used to be as an explanation (I am a rule follower by nature so it makes me feel badly if I think I broke the rules) and she launched into a lecture about how it has been for months. I said I was just there for happy hour and she made it sound like it might be open seating on weeknights (which without a sign is just confusing). As she was telling us this someone was literally opening a sandwich board sign that said see the host for seating. I pointed this out and she seemed to back pedal a bit. We said we would leave, but she assured us it would be fine to sit where we were. We then sat for a half hour watching everyone else getting served and wait staff looking at us as they walked by. When we asked one of the wait staff for help, explaining we had made a mistake we were basically told that the person we flagged down was our server and us sitting there meant she was "triple sat" (I am assuming that meant 3 parties at once for her) and that made her night really hard. So, we did order, but then felt incredibly uncomfortable as though we had made an egregious error. Also watched people around us getting wrong order and food really late. I am not sure if they were having a bad night but I have never been scolded at a restaurant before. In all fairness, I was a little snippy with the hostess because it did not feel good to be scolded, and we did not ask to see the manager to talk it through because we had 2 little kids who needed to get home. Edited to add that if we had been told in a polite/kind/professional way and were asked to be reseated or to come to the host stand and wait a moment we would have done that. It was really the way we were made to feel by two separate people that prompted this review. read more

We had such a fun afternoon sitting on the patio and trying different types of beers. The waitress was super helpful with beer selections! After a few hours, we decided to order some food. The chef happened to be walking around and checking on orders. She recommended the lemon chicken and vegetable curry. It was incredible! I've never had curry so creative and flavorful. It was Jamaican spice with plantains. The lemon chicken was cooked perfectly. I will definitely be back! read more

We stopped here for dinner while in town visiting friends. Tuesday night and the place was packed! Our total visit time was 2.5 hours. The kitchen was very slow but the waitstaff and manager were very attentive and apologetic. I think they didn't expect quite the crowd on a Tuesday and didn't have enough kitchen staff on hand. After the wait our food came our piping hot and phenomenal!! We ordered sever small plates and shared between four of us. Mac n cheese, spicy maple wings, devils on horseback, pork dip and spicy Italian sausage. Nothing disappointed! Everything was exquisite and you can tell a lot of thought went into deciding on this menu. We finished dinner with "Apple pie" a la mode. The Apple pie was different but tasty... we finished every bite! We would definitely recommended this place but be patient, the place is new and they are working out kinks but the wait is worth the food! read more

Get it together Stanley Beer Hall. One bartender on a sunny warm Friday afternoon that happened to be St. Patrick's Day too...whose great idea was that? Service is painfully slow. Prices are rather steep. Overall this place needs improvement. They sell white wine but they don't have any chillers to offer you for your bottle...now that doesn't make any sense. And now on two, yes TWO, separate occasions the chairs have ripped holes in my clothing. Earlier this year it was pants and yesterday it was my skirt. Watch out and use caution on their chairs. The screws in the seat seem to come loose and tear items...extremely disappointing. Oh and it's kid central which makes sense due to proximity with Stapelton but just be warned and not surprised. It's almost as though they should create an 'adults only' section for those who don't want to be around masses of running and screaming children. Stanley Beer Hall please clean your water bottles and make sure your servers checks for floating objects in said bottles before placing them on tabels. Please get a few wine chillers, make sure your servers know the cheeses on the cheese plate they deliver to tabels, get a few extra hands pouring drinks and PLEASE figure out how to fix your chairs. I want to like you, I really do, but you're making it very VERY hard. read more

Very attractive space, hip, mod architecture, very nice staff. But crazy overpriced, which seems to be the standard anymore around town. Beer selection is amazingly good -- some of the best styles from local breweries -- and well-rounded, but many are in the $8-$10 bracket (seriously?). I know, I know: 10% AVB deserves the big mark up. Idea: have a perennial 5% draft running $4 for a pint? Menu is wonderful, but we're talking small, small plates, and you end up ordering a few while busting the bank. Two of us saw the writing on the wall and closed out at $58 minus tip, opting to go to Lowery instead. This is another example of a good concept getting tweaked into the "fine dining, small shared plates" category, which equates rip-off. I simply can't afford places like this. There's no way I'm gonna kick back and have a few pints, not at this price. So, good luck. If this places doesn't recalibrate the price structure, locals will find another outpost. And really, are others going to drive across town for this? read more

We were underwhelmed. Skip this spot and try the Lowry Beer Garden or another of the beer gardens popping up in the metro area. Our visit was just one experience after another that convinced us to never go back. We arrived at 5:30pm, before the usual dinner crowd and had to wait for 20 minutes even though there were multiple tables available. Then they wanted to seat us next to the hostess station (again even though there were many tables available). When we said we'd prefer a different table we were made to wait again. The restaurant is set up so the sun shines warmly and brightly into the space so even with sunglasses on I couldn't see to eat and we were hot and uncomfortable. We weren't allowed to move although other customers around us were moved out of the sun. The menu is pretty standard pub fare, but is well prepared. The server could discuss the beer and food options knowledgebly. The chili fries were especially good. The pulled pork sandwich was served without bbq sauce, so it was a little dry. There's an excellent beer list. The bar area was nice, and service there was excellent. A disappointing experience overall, though. read more
