The carpeted area I needed done was relatively small (maybe smaller than the previous reviewer),... but a living room, hallway, and stairs where (between the previous owners and our now housebroken puppy) there were a lot of stains. There was an up-sell component to their visit for sure (for me, it was the stairs), but definitely something I wanted to do anyway (stairs are the first thing you see when you come in the house) and something I could have said no to if I didn't want to be up-sold. So... I'm not really going to dock any points. It IS their job. IF I'd had to pay for three "living rooms" just to get my one done, that would have ticked me off... so I do see the previous reviewers point. That said, the two gentlemen who came to the house were super friendly, explained their services and the costs associated, and above all, did a GREAT job quickly. I seriously didn't think our carpet could look as good as it does. For me, it's the cost that keeps my review from being 5 star.... but for something to occasionally freshen up the house, I think they did a great job! NOTE: if you plan to clean your carpet because of a special visit or event, I recommend getting the carpet cleaned a few days beforehand instead of day-of or day-before. I was a first time carpet cleaner, so I didn't realize how wet/damp my carpet would be. Give yourself several days buffer (everything should be mostly dry in about 10 hours, but another few days is better). read more

Good cleaning but no protection for furniture. They placed the legs of the furniture right back on the wet carpet. Most carpet cleaners place pads under the legs so that the wood doesn't absorb the moisture from the wet carpet. read more

We called based on the $99 for up to 300 sq ft to have the bathroom cleaned - which is well under 300 sq ft. Upsold to $200 once the guys got on site, then started haggling down on the price. They got sent out the door after 10 minutes. Expect to be upsold and prepare to pay or do it yourself. We won't be calling back anytime soon. read more

DO NOT LET THIS COMPANY IN YOUR HOUSE! On March 31, 2010 our finished basement was flooded due to rain. We called stanley steemer to have them pump out the water, rip up any damaged flooring, dry the basement and put down biocide to prevent mold growth. They came down on the first day Aril 2 2010 and began the pumping. At that time we paid them $2662.23 they then said that that was all we would have to pay and that they would continue for however long it took to pump the basement and get the job done. The next time they came back they told us we would have to continue to pay them everyday that they had their equipment running. I called their management because we thought that what we had paid was all that we would have to pay. The manager came over and after assesing the basement said that he would give us a discount for what they were charging us for additional pumping. In between this last visit and the next visit I had been downstairs looking for paper when I found one of my sons scrapbooks from when he was still in the hospital on the ground laying in a puddle. This book was up high in a closet and had no reason to be touched or moved. I understand accidents happen but they could have informed of the damage or at least taken it out of the puddle. The next time they came it was clear that one of their crew members was not having a good day. They went downstairs and began ripping up the vinyl flooring to prepare to dry the basement. Instead of taking the moldy wet pieces of the floor through the bulkhead to throw out they took them upstairs, which is crowded due to having a lot of the downstairs items in the way. My husband politely told the crew member that he would move the items out of the way so that no one would be injured and nothing would get broken. Instead of listening to my husband the crew member continued to plow through and knocked down our cd rack which broke. So now in addition to the mess from downstairs we now had dvds strewn all over the living room. We managed to get the cd rack back together again however it is not stable and we have 3 children in our household that it could potentially fall on and injur. They said they would offer us 40 dollars for the cd case that cost us roughly 100 dollars. I called their management again (who could not talk because he was busy) to complain about the now destroyed album and the cd rack. They saw the previous complaint about the money issue and advised us not to pay them any more money for anything. They put the compaint through and said that the manager would call back either that night or the next day to talk to me. He never called back. Today my husband and I went to do a load of laundry downstairs. When we went down to get it we were flooded again because one of the crew members undid the hose for the washing machine and never told us. When I called again to complain the manager was not in, however someone did call back to tell me that they had unpluged it for use of the outlet. My husband told me that the washer and dryer were plugged in only the hoses were undone. So now in addition to the new flood in the basement we also have a humidity problem from the dryer. The hoses were not in a visible spot where we would have seen that they were not hooked up. What I don't understand is what the hoses have to do with electricity? read more

I started of with the $99.00 plan, it included two rooms and a Hallway. I asked for some extra cleaning, for example the stairs going from the bottom hallway to the upper Hallway. it tool extra 5 Min, I asked to clean a recliner $45.00 that took 10 Min, and i asked to clean the lower portions of the couch and a love seat. it took lest than 1 Min.( areas where my male little dog likes to go. ) Oh I also ask for a deodorizer to spray on the living room carpet it took less than than 1 Min. I called and told the operator that we had a wool carpet and and that we had pet stains they said it would not be a problem to clean. OK they gave me a Price and set up the date and time. When the team showed up to clean the carpet They wanted to sell other services I understand that's their job. However once he was done with the cleaning He informed me that because the carpet was wool he could only use steam no other cleaning solutions. A little after the fact Could have told me that first. Would have had someone else do the work Who wanted to take the carpet to the shop and clean it properly. Lesson learned pay a little more and get it done by someone who deals with wool rugs. read more

This was the second time that we used this company. My husband and I were very pleased with the service at our home, that we made an appointment for a relative. Melvin and David were very prompt (They offered to come earlier, but we were unable). They were very pleasant and helpful. Due to the condition of the carpets, we knew this was going to be a difficult job. However, they not only efficiently cleaned the carpets, but they were able to remove several of the deep stains. I did not experience any difficulty with being pressured to purchase more. I prepaid for the service in advance, so my budget was set. We've had one excellent experience with Stan Steem in Warwick. Jason and Sam took the time to explain the various options very clearly. We are landlords who are cleaning properties, including our own home. They asked good questions about how long we were going to hold onto some furniture and some rugs, which turned a cleaning decision into an investment decision for us. The guys were friendly and did a good job. We moved furniture before they came in, told them not to bother moving the couch. (Carpet under the couch is not dirty). I told the men from the get-go, I was not interested in the upsell, that I had to stick to the $99 budget and that was it. No pressure at all. Stains did not all come out, however, after the carpet dried, (in the 8 hour time frame quoted), it looked much better than it did before they started. What a 1st class job! Matt and Sam called to ask if they could come early although it was only 15 minutes early. They inspected the carpets first and asked what I wanted. AND they listened and put their attentions to the areas of my carpet that needed the most work. They worked quietly and explained concerns they had and showed me where they were able to remove stains that I never thought would come out. The explained other promotions they had without being oppressive. They finished quickly after the carpet was cleaned to my approval. They packed up and left with everything in perfect order...and found a loyal customer! The price was exactly what we had previously agreed. I was very disappointed by the cleanliness of the tile after the cleaning they did. The tile still looks dirty and the sealant they used was splattered in several areas. Overall not pleased by outcome and would not recommend or use again. read more

I'm so incredibly annoyed right now. I've been waiting since 7 in the morning for the call that SS was coming- the appointment was for 8am-1pm to re-clean the carpet in my room. I moved EVERYTHING OUT AGAIN and have been sitting here waiting on Saturday morning (noon now) only to find out they called the wrong number and left 2 hours ago. Even though I specified the number to call. I had to call to find out they weren't coming. Three times. And now they can't come back until next Saturday afternoon in over a week. Which is how long I waited for this appointment. I just moved into a new place and the bedroom carpet smells. I get to smell another week of this because they called the wrong numbe while I was literally WAITING for the last 4 hours. The appointment next week is 1-6 so there's another Saturday gone where I get to move EVERYTHING OUT and WAIT. If they make it next week and do a good job, I might consider changing this review (because the people I spoke to tried) but right now, they seriously suck. And not in good ways. read more

I had a sofa, chair & ottoman cleaned along with a small area rug. Techs showed up at designated time; sold me deodorizing and offered to clean the area rug for a small fee. The cleaning was great. Techs were in and out in an hour. Today, more than 24 hours later, the furniture is almost dry. Tech told us it would be @ 8 hours. This is my first experience with using their services. Richard B. and Xavier B were very professional and thorough. They did a great job on my hardwood floors and kitchen ceramic tiles. My floors look fantastic. I was a little shocked as to how much the service charged and never anticipated spending this much to have my hardwoods and ceramic tile cleaned. I ended up agreeing to include the poly c treatment to the hardwoods. They look great. This is my first experience with having my floors professional cleaned. I am not sure of the price comparisons. Other than the unexpected costs I am extremely pleased with the job Richard and Xavier did on my floors. The two guys who came out to clean the carpets left the carpets soaking wet. They told me they moved the beds (but hadn't and when I asked they told me not to move them because the floor was damp and the beds were up on pads). They didn't move any of the three beds or dressers. We all got very sick from the chemicals because the floors were so wet. The floors had not dried three days later with fans having run on them for the whole time! read more

Absolutely the worst. They showed up on Friday unprepared for the job, even after it was explained what/where/how and when the job needed to be done. They said they'd have to come back today with a different machine at 12:30. 2 different guys showed up with out the right equipment again and 3 1/2 hours later than what they said. Horrible! We have used them 3 times before to clean and deodorize because our dog has accidents and they have always left our carpets smelling fresh and looking new. This time the floors don't look clean at all and the smell of urine is 10 times worse than it was before the cleaning. We told the technician we weren't happy and he said simply that they can't guarantee the odor removal. There was also one large stain he said he would go over a second time and called me when finished to show me he got it out. He actually said that it came right up as my spouse and I were looking at the stain that was still there plain as day. Again he said he can't guarantee any of the work. But he stood there trying to convince us that he got the stain out moments earlier! I questioned if he had cleaned it thoroughly and he asked me if I wanted to see the dirty water. What will that prove?! I asked him to redo the cleaning and he said we have 10 days to have someone come back out and told me to try to not let this ruin the great day (weather) we are having!! In other words HE wanted to enjoy the day. But that means I have to be inconvenienced another day when he should have done the job right the first time!!! I am extremely dissatisfied. Absolutely unproductive and unprofessional. If he spent half as much time actually cleaning the carpet that he did feeding us lines of BS maybe I wouldn't have to write this. read more

I had them come out to clean 1 room, a set of stairs and a 5' x 8' area rug. I ordered the service on line and received a quote for the job. When the cleaners arrived, I was told they didn't know about the area rug, but that's ok, it will just be $180 more. I told them I had the quote right there in front of me, showed him, said he had to call his boss to ok it. The long and short of it is this, they pretended to clean the area rug, by just wetting it, I presume, because later that night I saw that it was still dirty, so I went over it with a damp cloth, and guess what, not clean! Every other second, the workers were trying to upsell me on deodorizers, upholstery cleaning, grout and hard wood floor cleaning (I have neither), extra carpet cleaning times (i.e., will come back 3 times for $400 in a year), scotch guard, etc., despite my repeated directions that I only wanted the rugs steam cleaned. They tried to tell me I owed extra to have the hall cleaned when it was included in the price of the cleaning that I ordred. Luckily, I had kept the receipt. They did upsell us the deodorizing treatment, but once the carpet was being cleaned, the smell of the pet stains made that decision for us. Very nice guys, fair price, good job. The two man crew was very prompt and professional. We had carpet cleaned as well as tile and grout in 2 bathrooms and the kitchen. Everything looks great. I did end up getting grout sealed around my shower stall which was an upsell, but worth the price. Last year I had Chem Dry come in instead of Stanley Steemer and they did not get spots out of the carpet like Stanley Steemer does. Carpet was damp but not really wet when they were done. Weather was rainy and humid but the carpet was completely dry in less than 24 hrs after running some fans and the A/C. I would definitely hire them again. read more

I called for an emergency visit since may daughter had gotten sick on our sectional thinking that it would be a long shot to get an appointment right away. I was able to get the appointment the same day and I appreciated how personable the woman was who booked my appointment. Jason and Eli cleaned the ceramic floor tile in my large kitchen and in the entryway to the house. The tile was filthy; now it looks like it was just installed, brand new. Both young men are efficient workers, polite and friendly, respectful of property. It's true that part of the Stanley Steemer experience is upselling. If you know to expect it and stay firm to your original quote, that's what you'll get. I actually ended up buying some additional products, but I didn't feel that I was strong-armed into doing so. 5/15/13 Today I had rugs cleaned by Stanley Steemer for the first time. I had read some reviews on line and was a bit hesitant because of the pressure tactics I had read about. To my great delight, my crew of Jason Brown and Donald Rhoades was nothing but hard-working, low-key, and friendly. I had just moved out of an apartment after living there for 33 years, and one rug was stationary in front of an air-conditioning vent underneath a bureau for that entire time. The filth was such that I doubted how good it could possibly look. I stood over them while they cleaned, pointing out spots which they vigorously went after, and the rug looks GREAT!
