I feel this place is more money centered. I always feel that they try to push for more treatment .. like deep cleaning when there is less of a need. You would like to get a basic cleaning as part of the visits covered by the insurance... but, the stansell folks will try to impose the additions. I had three sittings here and my spouse had two. Their strategy is, convincing for a deep cleaning and there by adding more services which gets more out of pocket. For my case, the very first sitting, i was told that deep cleaning is needed and took ~$200 odd out of pocket from me for the cleaning. For my spouse, they said teeth is good and regular cleaning is fine. But, for the next sitting, in the next 4 months they said deep cleaning is required and the pattern set for me was about to follow. We put a end to it and said, we are not interested to do so. Also, they were pushy on the immediate opening for the very next day. That does not sound right!!! How is that possible withing a 4 month period? for a deep cleaning need. I have decided to switch dentist. read more

Made many visits. Absolutely ruined my front teeth which will require multiple visits and yet more money to a new dentist to fix. I'm even *more* self conscious than I have ever been. So SO upset I cannot begin to express. The worst dentist experience of my entire life. Yet worse... many weeks after making every payment in full on every visit - they left me threatening voicemails saying they would ruin my credit rating because my insurance company had made some weird recalculation on my EOB. I could NOT believe that having been a good and loyal customer for a considerable period of time that they would turn around in a heartbeat and be so incredibly vicious. So, in my opinion, having experienced poor workmanship coupled with such upsetting customer service, I would advise that no one sensible frequent this particular service provider. Update 6/8: I raised my concerns on several follow ups but they were not heard and not addressed. I was told I would be charged again to have the *same* fillings "fixed" a day later. No mention of payment plans was ever made. However the threat of ruining my credit was swifty made. You may wish to revisit the verbiage your staff are using in comparison to that which perhaps you think is being used, as it appears the two are highly disparate. read more

So last week I was noshing on a particularly bone filled piece of fish and *chomp* I felt something weird in the back of my mouth. I go to check and it turns out I chipped a tooth. Oh crap, this means I have to go to the dentist. Well, I haven't been to the dentist in awhile, and by awhile, I mean 10 years or so. On the bright side, I do floss and brush regularly. So to say I was experiencing a bit of anxiety would be an understatement. I found out my insurance provider assigned me to a random practice with horrible patient feedback, so I started to do some searching around on my own, and wow, there are a lot of dentists in "my network" with horrible reviews. Thank goodness I stumbled upon Stansell Dentistry, another 10 calls with my insurance provider and I was ready to make an appointment! I have to give Dr. Stansell extra points just for dealing with my insurance provider, I can only imagine what a headache it must be for them if it was this hard for me. So Tuesday rolls around and I arrive for my appointment. Amanda immediately puts me at ease upon check-in as I prepare myself for the medieval torture that I have imagined is to follow. Carmen takes me back and starts a series of x-rays. All of which are painless and apparently the news is pretty good. Dr. Stansell comes and goes over each one of my teeth and gums with me. She also cleans off all the buildup with the Cavitron, which wasn't painful at all and now my teeth look and feel brand new! Turns out the chip is minor and doesn't go through the enamel so I don't have to do anything crazy. I do have a filling that needs to be replaced. Carmen finishes up brushing and flossing and getting me ready to go. Amanda gets me setup for my follow-up appointment and I'm out the door. Relatively painless and now my smile is looking good again. If you are looking for a smaller practice with a very personal touch, this is the place. Everyone is super duper nice and they do a great job. No one will give you a hard time if you haven't been to the dentist in ten years and billing is very straight forward. I liked it so much I'm going back next week, but every 6 mos should be sufficient if you don't need any work done like me :-) read more

This office only gets a 1 because I can't give it 0 stars. I made my appointment for a cleaning. I took the day off and it was my first time at this office . The lady takes my X-rays and then asks some questions about what my teeth goals were. The doctor comes in and makes some suggestions. She gives me a breakdown down of those suggestions and then says ok we will see you soon! I asked, what about my cleaning? Well we close at 2. But I made my appt for a cleaning and I got information, suggestions but no cleaning! What a waste do time. Do yourself a favor and find a real dentist that wants to do dental work and not sell a bunch of cosmetic products. Worst ever! read more

This was my first experience with this dental clinic. I had researched before I went, so I had figured they were nice, clean office etc...I am working out of town so they can't be my permanent hometown dentists, but I wish they could be. The dental hygienist, receptionists and dentist all deserve 5 stars. Very sweet, professional and personable. Sadly, I'm only giving them 4 stars though, only because they won't bill a second insurance party for payment. I have to pay up front and get reimbursed from my insurance company. Had another amazing experience at the dentist today. I can't say enough good things about this practice. I went to the new location off Falls of Neuse today and honestly was a bit apprehensive because it was new to me, but as soon as I got there I realized my apprehension was ridiculous as I was greeted warmly as usual. I must say in my experience it's very difficult to find people who are both excellent in their medical profession and excellent at customer service - but every person I've dealt with at Stansell Dentistry is wonderful with teeth and also clearly loves their patients :) Also watching Netflix is a nice touch! FANTASTIC! I have honestly never been to a better dentist! From day one I have been absolutely terrified of the dentist, or anyone touching my teeth for that matter. I couldn't even get though a dentist appointment without tears. My boyfriend actually picked out Stansell based on the review and went before me to check it out. I put off making an appointment as long as I could until I started to have a problem and had to go. The receptionists are absolutely fantastic at their job. My first appointment was just a cleaning with Sara. Loved her, she was personable, quick and told you everything she was doing prior to her doing it. Then Dr. Zengraf came in and went over a treatment plan with me. I had never had a dentist be so up front about treatment, cost, how much insurance would cover and where we should start. Brielle with the reception team is fantastic at planning around insurance coverage and is very knowledgable about your benefits/how much you have left etc. They even put on pandora radio or netflix for you throughout your apt. I don't burst into tears anymore when I have to go to the dentist- I actually look forward to it. I'm able to catch up on my favorite tv shows while in the chair! It makes the time fly! I would 100% recommend this dentist to anyone, especially those that are terrified of the dentist like I was. You won't be disappointed! I'll never go anywhere else! read more

Visited Stansell Dentistry today after a number of years of neglect of my teeth. I've always hated the dentist and was not looking forward to this visit. Everyone was very friendly and made me feel comfortable from check-in through checkout. The X-rays, cleaning, and final check/review by Dr. Stansell were all efficient, painless and they kept making sure I was surviving the experience. I would definitely recommend Stansell Dentistry to anyone looking for a new dentist. One of big pet peeves with previous dentists was their immediate suggestions that I schedule an appt for elective or cosmetic procedures. Nothing was ever necessary (I haven't had a cavity for 30 years), but it was always recommended that I seriously consider these extra procedures. read more

I've been twice to this office, after 4 years of skipping Dentists. It is not that Dentists are bad people, but I find that most of them are just insensitive boors who tend to treat their patients and employees lousy. Dr Stansell is not like that. CLearly she and her team truly enjoy working there. They are on time, polite, and sensitive to your needs. Dr Stansell also treats her people with respect, and me like a human being. I've been to 2 other dentists here in the Triangle - one who treated his team like trash in front of patients, and another who was so bad, I got up and walked out on in the middle of my appointment. If you are looking for a dentist who is state of the art, and is sensitive to you, and has hired a team that projects the same, go visit this team. You will not regret it! read more

Stansell Dentistry is amazing! The staff is friendly as soon as you walk in the door until the time you leave. Specifically, I really enjoy seeing Brynn, dental hygienist each time. She always makes me feel like I have a voice and listens to my concerns. She also doesn't recommend any products (toothbrushes, whitening, mouthwash, etc.) that she doesn't believe in. I recently moved to the Triangle, after a few years as a Nomadic fellow and a failed attempt at nurturing a business venture that used teams of Platypi to work fields of cranberries for harvest . It had been no less than 3 years since my last visit to the dentist. I had erupted all of my wisdom teeth, however dropped out of Graduate School. Received a root canal before my Junior Prom from a man who resembled a Drunk Plumber/Mall Santa, who steadies your mandible by swaddling you against the doughy confines of his abdomen, and had been told I was cursed with "soft enamel". You can understand that I had my reservations about another dentist, albiet, with fancy gadgetry and peri-exam Netflix. The plot thickens....... I called yesterday afternoon, and was in the office by this morning at 0900. A clean interior greeted me as did a host of pleasant, friendly dental health professionals. The new patient paperwork was completed on a touch-screen tablet in less than 5 minutes, and I was escorted to an exam room. Extremely clean, Fung Shui-y, and technology to the Max, Jack. I sat down under the exam lights, prepared to have at least 1/3 of my jaw removed due to my habits of chasing my Chocolate Chip cookie breakfast with a nice cigar and a can of Surge. Carmen was very polite, professional, and bottom line, a really nice person. She took x-rays in the same room, and they were immediately displayed for my viewing pleasure on the flat screen in front of me. We bantered about as she probed my neglected molars, talking about everything from ACC Basketball, the housing market, and how my lack of "game" probably contributes to my recent extended "celebration of solitude". After a quick cleaning and gum check, all while enjoying Season 3 of Arrested Development with personal headphones (I KNOW!:D) Dr Stansell glides into the room with the grace of a thousand doves, her soul exuding sheer awesomesauce. Turns out Surge isn't a suitable hourly rinse (Ricky at Whole Foods is a downright LIAR!) and my smile needs some mason work. They were very pleasant while telling me what I need to have done, reviewed my x-rays, and scheduled me for Molar Madness 2012! Mary Paige at the front was a delight to talk to, incredibly personable and admirably tolerable of my nervous not-so-funny-jokes. I walked out an educated man, armed with a Shiny New SonicCare toothbrush that makes my mouth feel as fresh and pure as a Legion of Evergreen scented Snowmen on a virgin slope of the Himalayans where it rains York Peppermint Patties. I actually look forward to my next visit, which I find almost absurd, and the exciting possibilities that await my canines. When you check out, give Mary Paige a High Five. She is the first dentist that I have met who has true bedside manner (whereas most seem to be in and out without much concern for the patient's experience). She seemed to genuinely care about how I was doing- explaining everything thoroughly and asking if I had questions or concerns. I would highly recommend her! read more

I paid them $300 for a half ass teeth bleaching job. I was able to tolerate 2 of 4 treatments. After about 3-5 days, I got canker sores on my gums and a cold sore below my bottom lip. I never had canker nor cold sores before that teeth whitening disaster. I contacted them and even visit their office, they didn't do anything except check and said it wasn't their issue. I went to my primary care doctor and got some anti-biotic for 10 days. As a result, I didn't use the tray and home bleaching gel. It's expired, I asked them to replace it but they wouldn't and said that I to pay 37 dollars for a 3 week supply. After a few cleanings, I decided to purchase the gel and try the home bleaching again. After removing the trays, my bottom gums (inside/out) where white. I called them to let them know that my bottom tray is not trim back properly because it's covering my gums which allow the gel to get on them. They told that it was because I used too much gel. I told them it wasn't the case, I whipped out any excess that was outside of the tray. After being put on hold twice, they said to bring in the trays. I drove 30 minutes to their office, and when I got there, receptionist at the from desk attempted to give me the same bs reasons as before without asking me to try on the tray. She went to back and get another person, again she tried to give me the same bs explanation without asking me to try on the tray for her to see the problem. I pointed out the difference between the bottom and top tray, they continue to argue the tray is trimmed properly and that I had used too much gel. I told them that I wasn't an idiot , I am using the tray and know it doesn't fit properly. She then reluctantly said to leave the tray and they will try to scallop it , similar to the top tray. They acted as if they were doing me a favor and didn't care that I had driven 30 minutes to get it fixed. Now I have to drive another 1 hour to pick it and hope they will do a good job trimming it back this time. They seems to be nice when everything is going ok, but very uncaring when something doesn't go well. Although my hygienist appears to be knowledgeable and respectful during my cleanings, I am seriously considering not going back to this practice after my two horrible experiences. read more

A coworker recommended Dr. Stansell to me, and I am so glad. I was looking to replace my doctor who I had just left after moving to Raleigh for my first job as a post-grad. Dr. Stansell does great work, makes sure I'm comfortable, and has good bedside manner.
