It is difficult to choose one that has openings in their schedule, takes my insurance, is conveniently located, and that I would trust my eyes to. Jelen Optometry is all that to me. And more. At Jelen Optometry, I have always been treated as an individual. There is more to this than trust and comfort: there is logic, as follows. Jelen Optometry has twice the square footage of your average solo optometrist. This allows the equipment needed for each step of the eye exam to be in an efficient sequence, and separate from the next step. The equipment itself is state-of-the-art; perfectly maintained and clean. You would be happy if other aspects of your life ran on their schedule. Firstly, Jelen Optometry doesn't double-book appointments. To me, the patient, this means if I arrive at two-twenty for a two-twenty appointment, I will be seen at two-twenty. Secondly, this efficiency is not achieved by sacrificing an unrushed, thorough examination. On the contrary, the time saved through proper management is passed on as a dividend to the patient, who receives personal, professional care in whatever time the doctor--not the clock--deems necessary. A word about the doctor, Dr. Jelen: There is an extra measure of care and precision in his thoroughness. Even the better optometrists have had me return to remake imprecise corrective lenses, or their prescription. Dr. Jelen spends more time getting the details right so that our time isn't wasted later. When the glasses are done they're done. You can't do better for accuracy. No one is going to care more about your optical health than Dr. Jelen.

A couple of weeks ago there was a misunderstanding between myself and Dr Jelen's office staff about…read moremy coverage. VSP called the office to verify and clarify my current coverage. After being treated so rudely by the office, I decide I would look elsewhere to order my glasses. Today, I learned that Dr Jelen's office staff had put an exclusive "hold" on my account stating I could only receive services at his office. The Clinician had to call VSP and verify my identity and remove the "hold" on my account! This is retaliation for asking for clarification and is unacceptable. I will find a new Optometrist.

The most recent…read moreexample was from a pair of bifocals where the close distance was way too close, much closer than I hold my phone yet alone trying to shop or drive. I asked that they be replaced with the same prescription I already had for reading with no change to the distance. They asked me back to check the glasses, and did an eye exam. They then billed me outside of my insurance for that exam since I'd just had a covered exam from the first, incorrect pair. It ended up being a great experience and I was able to get my glasses the same day. Valerie was the associate who helped me out, and she did a wonderful job! She thoroughly explained everything made sure that I was taken care of. While I was shopping, the manager also made sure to ask if I need anything and answer any questions I had while I was selecting frames. I am very grateful for all the help that the staff gave me and the price was excellent, even without having vision insurance.
