I'm so happy I have Staples right near me the convenience is everything. I was WFH (which is rare for me but happens once in a while) and randomly needed to print and scan some documents. Of course it was one of those "I need this done now" moments. They have a space where you can hop on a computer, print, scan, and make copies, which made my life so much easier. Everything was simple to use, and the staff was super helpful. Also, there's a Party City inside so if you need balloons or anything last minute, they've got you. I genuinely dread coming to this Staples location. I really wish there were another store closer to North Branford because every time I come here, the employee attitude is unbelievably condescending. Any time I'm dropping off Amazon, UPS, or USPS packages, there's always some snarky comment if you don't immediately know where something goes or mix up a label. Instead of just helping people, it feels like they go out of their way to make customers feel stupid. Example: I accidentally thought a UPS label was USPS and instead of politely correcting me, the response was basically "well it says it right there." It's always little passive aggressive comments like that. Customer service here consistently feels rude, impatient, and hostile for no reason. I needed to replace my 10 year old computer and stopped by staples. They had an all in one computer that was reasonably priced. I talked to the technician on site and the model they were selling met my needs. It was also in the price range I was looking for. Plus, for $103 They converted all the data on my computer onto this new computer and set it up for me. They ordered it and within four days they got it, converted all my data onto the computer and it runs like a top. They also disposed of my old computer and gave me reward money for another purchase. I use Staples all the time for various supplies, printing functions, and anything else that I need. They are the best. They are right off route one, plenty of parking and easy access on off the highway. read more

I guess it has been a year since the last time I was in here because the place looked a bit differently organized this time around. The prices are pretty basic. Judging by the other reviews I guess I'm in the minority...but I had a great customer experience here on Sunday. I needed to kill some time before heading to a family get together but still wanted to get in and out quickly with what I needed. I found the store to be well organized and clean. I found what I needed within a few minutes. The young girl who checked me out was upbeat and bubbly. Prices were decent for 7 folders, a 3 pack of gel highlighters , and a three ring Avery binder I believe it came to about $40. I'll definitely go back to this location if I'm in the area. read more

This place. Just had to wait 10 minutes waiting for 2 clerks to finish up a personal convo to help me. Then they complained that no one uses the self-serve line. THEN, I had to CONVINCE the lady who was reluctantly helping me that yes I was sure I wanted to ship ups from them. She literally told me to go to the Post Office. WHAT??? Then the whole time she was talking to someone else, stopping her business with me multiple times. Shocking--this resulted in her misspelling the shipping label and when I refused it due to the misspelling (HER ERROR) she gave me major attitude. TL; DR: Expecting anything basic like a correct price is out of the question nowadays. Their job (for lousy pay, I assume) is to move discounted printers and pricey ink and toner. Our job is not to complain and roll over when details like store price are wrong. Get on with your life. Don't think too much, don't complain. Staples in Bradford is disinterested it would seem in details like listing the correct price for products in their store. While browsing for a new iPhone, I noticed that the price listed in their store display was a pretty good deal. The product rang up higher when the associate checked. I was then told they could not sell me a phone outright at any price. I called the 800 number given to me by the manager (her tone was massively dismissing, like my even bringing it up reflected poorly on me as a person) and was told I could in fact pick up the iPhone in store for that price. Some of the problem is cultural, store manager probably slaves over corporate but a ~50% discount on a 2 year old model iPhone can't be seen as out of the question. read more

The girl behind the counter was very rude to the lady in front of me. The lady clearly said she wanted a full page print. The girl printed at 75%. The lady said its not what i want. The girl chucked the papers went over her work and said i dont know how to do it and threw her arms up. Reprinted it for her and the lady left. Came in on a Tuesday afternoon; needed to buy a single stamp. One fifty cent stamp. Figured a Staples advertising it's new USPS services would be a convenient place to run this silly little errand. There were more than half a dozen employees working, easily enough to cover the twenty or so customers in the store. Well, first I waited ten minutes at the USPS desk while a young employee and an older customer engaged in some prolonged mutual flirtation. This was excruciating. Finally, as he paused between some brain-deadening jabber in regards to the woman's second of two packages that he was slowly scanning into the system, he asked what I wanted. 'A stamp,' I said. He told me to buy a book at the register. Guess I was throwing him off his game. On to the register where three lanes were open, yet all the customers were lined behind one. I quickly understood why. One employee was new and being trained, while the manager handling the register I had the misfortune of choosing clearly had not been manager very long. 'What do you need?' He asked. 'Stamps,' I said, pointing at the sign emblazoned over every register proudly proclaiming 'we sell stamps'. He pulled out a book of stamps. Then he flipped lazily through a book of SKUs, staring forlornly at each page. Several minutes passed. He shuffled the papers, then tapped them on the counter. 'The SKU isn't here to scan this,' he muttered. He yelled over at the other employees. They encouraged him to rifle through the manager's office. He did. No SKU. He wandered off somewhere else. Ten minutes later, he returned with the proper SKU (it was at the USPS desk?) and sold me my stamps. By the way, he seemed further confused by the process of totaling the stamps with the bottle of water I added to the transaction. This was the shift MANAGER. You couldn't even ask to see a manager in this situation, because that was THIS guy. It took twenty minutes to buy a stamp at this Staples. I live less than a mile from this branch and I will be driving to North Haven for all my future office supplies needs. read more

I had an issue with a downloadable document and the entire team (but Janine especially) continued to reach out to me and go back and forth via phone/email until the issue was resolved and I got my item printed correctly. Staples is outdated and going the same direction as Radio Shack, Circuit City and CompUSA. The only thing keeping them in business is that they have strong B to B and Dot-com divisions to help offset the losses their retail stores rack up. Staples stores have an advantage over those other retailers, they sell office supplies as well as electronics. The problem is that Staples corp. office does not provide the payroll to properly staff the office supply department to assist customers, merchandise the store, unload deliveries and other tasks. On top of not having enough help to begin with, the employees are constantly pulled away to be cashiers or assist in the copy center or UPS/USPS shipping. Actually helping customers on the sales floor and putting stock out seems to be the lowest priority. Basically, avoid going to the stores, especially the one in Branford. If you really need to shop at Staples, order the item and have it delivered. read more

Terrible service. The screen on my laptop for work had broken and I had just gotten the go ahead to ship it out to get fixed. I was given the OK to ship overnight because I can't go without a laptop, my entire job is done on my laptop. I was out at an all day event when I got the ok. I rush home and have 2 kids I had to take care of when I get home. I finally get them to bed and RUSH out to get this shipped. I got there 20 minutes to closing. The lady was annoyed that I existed and was trying to talk me out of having her pack it. I tell her I don't care about the extra $9 and just pack it. She sighs audibly, Stalks over to the boxes all grumpy. I forgot that I had left the battery in and it can't ship via air, but she tells me it should get there on Friday instead of the next day in Thursday since it has to ship ground. She gets to the end and sees that in fact it won't get there until Monday. I asked if I could unpack and take the battery out because I need this laptop to get there before next week. My entire job is on this laptop. She looks at me panicking that she might have to be at her job for 1 second longer than she has to be and informs me I won't have time they close in 5, sorry. Talk about shitty customer service. Had a long shitty day, rushing around and she was just the icing on the cake. It would have taken an extra 2 minutes but because Kate hates her job she just made my life that much more stressful. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. Today I was in this poorly ran establishment, just needed a few things. Come time to check out, an elderly man was in front of me trying to exchange something. The girl assisting him at the register was completely rude, manager eventually came over and told her to just give it to him without any trouble. As he told her thank you and to have a nice day the cashier completely just dismissed him and told me to come up to the register. Not even greeting me or asking how i am, she must have seen the look on my face when she asked "is everything okay?" I swiftly responded with "normally when someone comes up to your counter you're supposed to greet them" to which she just replied "oh". Not an apology, nothing. Normally, I'd let this slide but I've worked in customer service my entire life and a simple apology usually suffices. Now this is where it gets juicy, after copping an attitude from this chick through the whole transaction, as she prints my receipt she has the nerve to mutter with the fakest of all smiles "have an AMAAAAAAAAAZING day. Don't care what kind of day this girl was having, it's never okay to treat a customer with sarcasm or disrespect. Rude rude rude. Hopefully she finds a job that has 0 interaction with the general public in the future. read more

I find that every time I deal with this Staples, I find myself drowning in mysterious company policies and strange ways of doing things. I live in New Haven and I find myself constantly driving to the Old Saybrook location just based on consistency and customer service. I get an order of info cards made for my business a few times a year, and the Old Saybrook print center is willing to work with me. That print center will call me if they have any questions, problem solve if the situation calls for it, and the one time I found myself having an issue (a new employee had printed it on the wrong card stock) management immediately handled the situation and I was able to walk away feeling heard. The two times I attempted to get this order done in the Branford print center, they attempted to charge me over $200 for printing and cutting 30 pages, told me it would take weeks to produce, and told me the Old Saybrook location "is clearly doing things wrong" if I expected better service. Today I attempted to get a banner printed with the Branford center (Staples has a cut and dry price for banners, how badly could this location screw this up, right?). After spending 15 minutes looking on their website for the print center email and another 10 minutes on hold, I was told to send it to the staples database, receive a code over email, DRIVE TO THE STORE AND PHYSICALLY BRING THEM THE CODE, and only then would they be able to access the remote order. When I asked if there was just a direct way to send their center the file, the staff member on the phone just started his explanation over. I hung up, called Old Saybrook, and lo and behold, had the entire order straightened out and ready to be printed within 5 minutes. It's pretty sad that I'm willing to drive an extra 20 miles from where I live to go to a staples, but honestly, the difference in customer service and quality is just that vast. Went to Staples in Branford for an external CD rom drive. A staff member could not find one and used the store computer to locate a store nearby that had one. Was told Milford had three. Drove out to Milford (25 minutes) and, after much searching, was told there were two but both were broken. Each store had a computer in the front of the store to locate products in nearby Staples' facilities. It is clearly not maintained on a daily basis so why is it there? There were a number of empty spots on the shelves where items had not been replaced. Carelessly run facility. read more
