Went in there the other day. Bought some sharpies for my work. Bought a small bag of Cheezits with my own money. It was $2.52. Gave the girl a five dollar bill. Change was 2.48. I found two Pennies in my pocket and presented them to her. "I'm sorry, I already put it in", she said. I replied "Okay here's two cents. The total was $2.52. The change is $2.48. 48+2 equals 50, so my change should be 2.50. Young lady still couldn't figure it out. Whatever. I got my exact change of $2.48. Didn't want to pursue it any further, even though now I wish I had. Has she ever taken math in elementary school? I wonder. I hope it's a corporate thing where what goes down on the register absolutely has to equal the amount received. It was two cents. I really hope it was some corporate policy, and not her stupidity. My last few visits here were to do Amazon returns which was great due to how close it was to my house. I've never before had an issue, so today was a first; I've never before felt compelled to leave a negative review on yelp until today(11:30ish). I came in to return one item and was 1st in line behind a woman who was already being helped... another lady came over and stood off to the side rather than behind me. Soon after two men came and stood behind me in line. When the next person was called they allowed this lady standing aside to cut me. She apparently had been detoured to checkout previously and had to come back to returns/shipping desk after. When they called next in line I believed it to be my turn, since I was there first. But the employee disregarded me and they allowed the lady to cut me in line. It made me feel disrespected and stupid for having defended myself. I likely wont be coming here again. read more

Wow, this is the second Staples print center that tries to add excess fees to my prints claiming there are other jobs ahead of me. I went in to print a few copies of a presentation and a few excel files. I asked to get the presentations spiral bind and the employee said it would be a longer wait so I told him I'd pass on the binding. He said it would still be a wait but if I wanted a rush job he would charge me $9. Mind you the printers behind him were not printing anything. Had he hit print when we were talking, It would have taken him longer to ring me up and the prints would have been done. How hard is it to pull up a power point file, select 3 for prints, and hit send. Unbelievable! I wrote this review while getting my prints done at an Office Max. Purely for TSA enrollment experience. I made two attempts to go and had appointments. First one was cancelled because they said the employee was having car problems. Second was cancelled and no reason given. Wasn't going to waste time making a third appointment. They don' t seem to be able to manage it well at this location or don't have the staff perhaps. Do yourselves a favor and just close it. Hope airport office proves easier. read more

Went on a Tuesday afternoon to test out a particular office chair that I saw online. Store was practically empty. They have a good selection of computer chairs to try out in the back. I decided to go with the chair that I saw online, but the online price was $20 dollars cheaper. They were able to price match. They even carried the chair to my car and loaded it in the trunk. It was pretty heavy, and I probably would have struggled a bit. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and service was exceptional. Only thing is that furniture items have a 14 day return policy, so got to install and make sure there are no defects. They do offer an optional add-on for a 3 year warranty though. read more

Okay I officially hate staples. This particular location. I ordered 2 packs of grids I needed for a project. Now this project was something I wanted to give to a friend so I wanted it done ASAP. I ordered them online, store delivery. I go to pick it up 2 days after the delivery date since they said it was okay. They acted clueless and couldn't find my order. Guess what? I waited a whopping 40 min. just for them to call the delivery guys and everything; still nothing. They had to reorder everything again. And so I waited another 3 weeks for delivery.... Oh yeah.. You guessed it. They can't find the package again. At this point I had no idea what to do. I asked them to check every single package, and after 30 min, they finally found my package, opened, receipt torn, and everything spilled out. This experience has been just plain frustrating for me. Pick up should be quick and easy, but instead took forever because of their unorganized pick up area. read more

I have been going to this location for years and have spend TONS of money here. I had bought a digital camera that was acting weird, but had the Staples Protection Plan so I brought it in this past Saturday. (I also live in San Francisco, but drive 20 mins to get to this one because I liked it) Anyway I forgot the cord so the manager there told me to bring it back and they'd get everything sorted out. SO I come back the next day and a new manager was there. I had forgotten the charger (my bad) but she looked at the exterior (which was scratched from being in my purse) and told me that they didn't cover abuse. She then proceeded to treat me like I was trying to scam her. She insisted that she had the same camera and they were very good. I told her I didn't drop it and she kept shaking her head and saying "it looks like it was dropped." (I, by the way, didn't drop it). THEN she tells be it basically breaks down to if she took it back and the manufacturer doesn't accept it, she'd be out $150. When basically I'm out $200 because I bought the stupid plan in the first place. I have never been treated so poorly. I get it, I used to work at Best Buy and Starbucks, sometimes it sucks dealing with customers, but it was no excuse for a manager treating a customer who has spent THOUSANDS at their store. I even waited a couple of days to cool down before I yelped this store and I still can't justify it. read more

I stood by the tablet area and very intently stared at one product, because I figure that's the normal way for customers to signal that they want to purchase something. Apparently not, because after 10 minutes, nobody noticed. Lets also keep in mind that there is NO ONE ELSE IN THE ENTIRE STORE. Nobody is manning the cash registers, nobody is shopping, nothing. It's just me and some employees who look like they are chatting away near the back. Hell no im not buying a desk calendar for freaking $15- 20 just cause it looked a bit more fancy than the regular Staples one. They open on Saturdays from 9am-9pm...so when I walk in at 11:30am, why isn't there anyone at the copy center?...and when I asked, they told me no one will be there until 2 p.m...! So i asked if someone could help me, and the answer was "no." I come here when our office is in need of something last minute and can't wait for an order to come in the next day (I know...but sometimes we're just on a time crunch forgot to plan better...). I've gotten to the place where I know where to find things on my own, but, honestly, the staff here are not helpful for the most part. Today, I stood around for 15 minutes waiting for someone to help me look for something before a guy came over to listen to 10 seconds of me, only to tell me that he couldn't help me... Basically, come if you need something small and normal, but if you need a special item, don't bother...and don't bother waiting to ask their staff because you will be there forever. First, I want to thank the Staples San Bruno Rep who resolved my problems, he should be manager there the rest should fired outright... Here is my experience. I was in SF @ another Staples and find the Camcorder I've wanted at 50% off, the catch is they only have a shop worn demo unit I don't trust. The helpful Staples Tech Rep in SF looks in their computer and finds San Bruno has a couple meaning at least one is new in the box. Monday comes around and I want to verify Staples still has a boxed Camcorder before going all of the way to San Bruno on BART. I call San Bruno, the first person answering hangs up on me, The second call I'm transferred to easy-tech and left on hold 20 rings, the third call I'm again transferred to easy-tech and left on hold another 20 rings. I decide I don't need the camcorder and give up. I had a lunch date near Staples on California Street in SF so I ask the rep there if they can call San Bruno and find out if the camcorder is there for me to get (OK, I really wanted it). He successfully calls and gets through and verifies it is there and has them hold it for me. I hop on BART to San Bruno and arrive at Staples. I'm ignored by everyone when I check the counter and try to get help. One and only one sharp employee steps up to help me, I told him I had it on hold, he can't find it. In addition to all of the hassles I've mentioned easy-tech also dissed me again by not holding the item. BTW WTF is easy-tech? BS? It still gets better folks, The guy finds the last boxed Camcorder in the back it was not on hold. The only reason it was there was it was priced @ $300 on the counter even when they were on clearance and sold out at most stores for $135! So no one bought it because they did not know it was 50% off, San Bruno never bothered to mark it at the right price on the counter. If it were not for the one good employee there I would have given them -5 Stars! San Bruno Staples may be worth it if you are getting something at a big discount on clearance, that is if they even know about it, otherwise stay away and keep your sanity. Staples if you read this fire the ass at the easy-tech counter he does not deserve a job... With the good guy's help I got it and at the clearance price, but I earned the discount the hard way with all of the BS. read more

Best shopping experience with upgrading my cell phone from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 6, thanks to a great sales associate at the tech center, Nikan!! My husband & I had just left the Verizon Wireless store next to this Staples store because there was a 45 minute to an hour wait. The customer service at that Verizon branch sucks anyway, so we walked over to this Staples location to kill time. Lo and behold, this Staples store also sold iPhones too! Although the store seemed busy and short staffed, Nikan went out of his way to make sure we left with the iPhone 6 that I had wanted. PLUS, it was a FREE UPGRADE!!! (unlike how Verizon Wireless wanted to charge me $200 to upgrade my iPhone 4S to iPhone 6...that's shady!!) It took Nikan about an hour to transfer my files from my old phone to my new phone because I didn't back it up to iCloud but nevertheless, he was able to do it! In a lot of ways, the "Yay! I'm a fan." rating doesn't really apply to places like this. Staples is where you get supplies, and if they don't offer good service or items on a regular basis, I'm going to find another store that will. If a place like this doesn't get at least 4 stars, it's not worth going to unless there's no other place around. Fortunately, Staples does offer great stuff and great service, along with some good sales and deals. I get most of my office supplies from Staples, as well as a lot of my technology items (I trust the quality of what they sell far more than I trust Best Buy). I also use Staples for copy jobs, and they do consistent, careful work. I used to go to Kinko's for stuff like this, but they are usually so undermanned that I started going here--and I usually have no difficulties with my orders. Staples is my standby for office stuff. My only complaint is that they seem to close a little too early in the evening for my needs. Many a night I find that I need an item NOW only to find that Staples is already closed. Beware of their price matching "policy". I bought a printer and it was cheaper on Amazon, but my kids needed Valentine's cards and I couldn't wait for shipping. The guy that helped me was from their tech center, and while he was really nice and helpful (I had a double stroller with me and he put it in the cart, plus took it to my car and loaded it), I kinda feel like he got one over on me. When I asked about price matching with Amazon, he said as long as it was sold and shipped by Amazon. I showed him on my phone that it was, then he got a bit hesitant and said that because it was Prime, he couldn't. He seemed sketchy about it, then another worker walked by and he, "confirmed" the same with him. Fine, whatever, I had a toddler with the stomach flu and needed to get out of there, so I accepted it. The more I thought about it later the more it didn't make sense. What does Prime have to do with it? So I called national customer service and was told they could price match it, but they couldn't do anything about it so I'd need to go back to the store. I get to the store and ask to speak with a manager about a price match. The person asks me what the other store is and she immediately tells me that if it says, "Prime" they won't match and when I protest, she calls the manager. He comes over and tells me the same thing. His "understanding" is that since I am paying for Prime I am getting a better price. I try to explain to him that Prime doesn't change the price and he still argues with me. I pull up Prime benefits on my phone and read them to him. He gets a bit exasperated and finally agrees to just give me the match. I get the feeling that this store really doesn't understand their matching policy with Amazon and should really check in with their corporate office for clarification. read more

I was the only person there, and not only did I have to wait for her to come over to tell me that I had to type in all the information that was already on the label into their crappy computer, and once I entered it all in, I had to wait for the woman (who was not helping anyone else the entire time I was there) do her thing on the other computer... really? There was more discussion about the label that I had already put on the box and what to do about that than there should have been -- as the label I had on there was really a non-issue. The management is courteous and will do the right thing for the customer. Most of the associates I have been helped by seem like they want to help. The store needs a little cleanup though. Nobody wants to buy something from looking at a damaged display. The office supplies also seem to be out of place more than not. They seem to be understaffed every time I go in. Expect a lengthy wait in the checkout line. Overall its not a bad experience to shop here. If you have a problem, they are usually willing to help. I would rather wait a few extra minutes to get a problem solved than to instantly get assistance from someone who doesn't know what customer service means. read more

I am still a fan of this location. Yet I wish they had more clerks in the store to help. So much of the merchandise is stacked up high on shelves that is not easy to reach. And, lines get long at check out time with so few clerks available. I like the little cash rebates Staples offers. Just fill out the little form that the clerk gives you and send it in. You get a bit of cash back by check in about a month. Not bad. And they take old printer cartridges, which is good for the recycling effort. Plenty of parking and lots of merchandise, worth a visit at least once. read more

My aging iPhone 5 was in need of a battery and a new lightning port. The repair place I had been using had disappeared so I thought I'd roll the dice and try Staples as they were close by and few choices existed on a Saturday afternoon. I am really glad I did. I was helped by Rolando. What a great guy. He told me about 3 hours to take care of the work. I came back at the appointed time and he confessed that the parts were installed but for some reason, the phone wouldn't power on. He said, not to worry, they had a backup repair process for "difficult" situations. No extra charge. The sent my phone out and gave me a loaner iPhone 6 for the duration. He figured 3-5 business days for the process. It took a few days longer than expected, but when it came back - the phone worked perfectly. I told Rolando that I was basically resigned to the fact that I was going to be buying a new phone. He smiled and said... "not on my watch" Sometimes things don't go as planned. I give this store 0 stars. Terrible customer service for TSA Pre Check. My son had an appointment at 11:50 we didnt know the TSA Office was all the way in the back of the store. There were no workers to ask for directions, when we finally walk through the whole store and got to the TSA office the worker was putting her closed for lunch sign up when I told her we had an appointment at 11:50pm she said it is 11:54 and I have to go to lunch I said my son is in a wheelchair we got her at 12 so what do you expect he is only 4 min late she said to wait never came back and sent her Manager Eric to tell us that she had to go to lunch. Eric had the nerve to say that we were late and should leave earlier because it will throw off their schedule. For a person who is able to walk and not use a wheelchair to tell someone who uses a wheelchair to leave earlier for an appointment and then not take them for the appointment they had, is insensitive and downright rude and bad customer service! I have put in a complaint to TSA and will also put one in to Staples to better train their Employees. Looking from all the reviews there right customer service is terrible. Staples is my local office supply store and I've become a pretty big fan recently. I've been buying office supplies/some art supplies and also some electronics here for the past five or six years. What I like about staples is the rewards I get from recycling ink and that they are active in sending coupons. The return policy is very good as well, usually isn't a hassle at all, even for electronics. I've returned a projector and printer without any complications. Lately I've noticed that their customer service is improving which is why I'm writing. The last couple of visits I've had the cashier and also the manager go out of their way to tell my about deals that have save me a decent amount of money. They didn't have to do that but it is making me a loyal customer. Keep up the good work Staples and I'll keep coming back, it's as simple as that. read more

I came here today to pick up ink cartridges for our brother printer. There was a store rep in the beginning row of the printer inks. I asked him where the brother printer inks were located. All he said was "over there." So I went up and down that row looking for the specific cartridges I needed but I couldn't seem to find them. In the Interim, another customer who happened to be male approached the sales person and asked him something. The same rep dropped everything he was doing went halfway down the store and then came back and told the male customer that someone would be there to help him. I went all the way back to the other end of the row to ask the same guy exactly where they were. He rudely told me to go down further not wanting to be bothered and very condescending. I got frustrated so I bypassed him and found someone else to help me. Needless to say the first guy made a remark that I didn't ask for help and was very rude about it. We had an exchange of words. I told him I would report him and he said to go right ahead. A supervisor and a manager both male approached this sales guys that I got into an argument with and not once did they bother to ask me if I needed help and if I was OK. And I am the customer. Terrible customer service and management. I wanted to buy a chair for my home office. Employees outnumbered customers, but no one seemed to be working. After finally hunting down someone to help me, I was told that the chair I wanted was out of stock. The employee said he already asked the manager if he could sell me the floor model, but the manager said no. I was about to leave, when I decided to ask if there were any chairs in stock at another location, and, if so, could they ship to the SSF store for pickup. After finally getting the cashier's attention, he said he had to ask the manager (?). The manager told the cashier no, they could not have it shipped and I would have to go to the other store if I wanted to purchase. The cashier walked away, so I asked the manager directly if they could at least call to check availability. "Oh," he rudely replied, "you want US to call?" No, I replied and left. I went out to my car, got on the Staples web site from my phone, and bought the chair with free next day delivery to my house. Did the manager not know about free delivery from the online site? Or did he not care, because his store wouldn't get the sale? I think someone from corporate should contact this guy (Jose, I think) and give him a refresher about civility and customer service. I enjoy this Staples. It is close to my home and they are well-stocked. I can almost always find what I need here, and if I can't, someone is usually there to help me. I have had business cards printed up here, and it was a fairly painless procedure. My only complaint is that they only ever have one register open and it takes awhile to get out of there.
