Okay, I've been here a few times in the past year for various returns and printing needs, and it's actually fine. They're very patient when QR codes from Amazon don't immediately work, or scan properly, or you suddenly can't find them at all in the chaos that is your inbox. I've done my own printing/scanning/copying using their self-serve machines in the front and it's very easy to figure out (the screens do a great job at handholding you through the process). I think this Staples could use a really deep clean; but, the parking is abundant because it's in a stripmall! read more

So bad this place is like a clown fiesta. No working bathroom, clueless employees, low inventory, and disorganization run amok. They could "order" the items we came in for, since not in stock. Uh, we came into a physical store because we need them now and guess what - we can order them online ourselves without wasting gas getting here. How about printing photos? I went there to enlarge some photos from the internet, and I should have known better, given the photos are from a famous movie. However, she made me feel like I was stupid for making a simple mistake. She was extremely hostile and condescending. Terrible service and attitude. When a printing project comes up, the first place that comes to mind is Staples. Little did I know their custom printing program online is not at all user friendly or the least bit easy to work with. As a graphic design artist who is more than tech savvy, I find this unnecessarily complicated interface for customers to be shocking. You can go on Walmart's website and easily customize photos/upload content to edit and print. Why doesn't Staples have the same user friendly editing program for their printing services? Needless to say, I called the printing desk for assistance and they were of absolute no assistance. Instead of offering to adjust the image for me, they told me I'd have to figure it out myself. Gee, thanks for the help. I even asked if they could help walk me through whatever their idea of adjusting the photo was and they told me the program doesn't allow for editing and that I'd have to figure out how to "tweak" it on my own. To be clear, I just wanted to center the image on the page. That's all. Apparently their program does not allow you to move graphics around nor would the printing staff help me by offering to center it when they received the file. In the end, I took my business elsewhere and couldn't have been happier that I did. read more

I placed an order with the print shop and was told it'd take at least a week. Over two weeks later, I get an email saying that my order is done and that I could come pick it up. I stopped by the next day and the entire order was missing. The woman working at the printshop first tried to tell me that someone had already picked them up (which is impossible) and then told me they'd been sitting around for over 7 days and had been thrown away. She said she's cleaned up all the old orders the day prior and that I'd have to provide the files again and start over. What I'm pretty sure happened is that nobody ever actually started the order. Instead, it sat around in the system for a couple weeks until she cleaned up old orders. Likely, she marked the order as printed and picked up, just to get rid of it. I'm lucky, in that the event I needed my prints for was rescheduled. But I'm still going to take my business somewhere that doesn't lose it for weeks and then try to claim that "someone" picked it up. read more

I love Staples and all of the gadgets. I am a gadget girl and could wander around for hours looking at all the stuff getting ideas to get organized. I had to stop in to pick up some supplies for a presentation I was preparing for and found this store, in my head, was laid opposite of what I've known. Many of the items I shop for tend to be on the right hand side of the store and in this store I found it on the left so it took a little bit more time than I thought it would. I've tried shopping at other supply stores and tend to come back to the tried and true Staples to find what I need. I signed up for the rewards card and get cash back coupons in the mail. They have great memory sticks in all kinds of animal shapes. Good gift idea for a teen. read more

Might be the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I walked into the store to buy a computer chair and alerted one associate working on the floor. He told me he was busy with another customer and radioed for someone to come help me in the back near the chairs. I went back there and waited 10 minutes and still no one came back to help me. Finally I went up to the register area where there were three associates not helping any customers just standing there and asked them if someone can come back and help me I had a chair I wanted to purchase. They too called on the radio for someone to come back and help and back I went five minutes later no one showed up yet. Finally after close to 10 minutes somebody shows up and I get the chair. I bring it up to the register and I they tell me I need someone to come help me bring the chair out to my car so I end up standing there with three associates, once again not doing anything, standing there looking at me as I wait for someone to come help me it takes another 10 minutes just to get someone to come up and bring this to the car. This was the worst customer service experience I've had in a store and I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of stopping in to think twice. If I could give this place less than a star I would do it without a second thought. Just an awful experience from every associate in the store. read more

Absolutely the worst customer relations, and management. Staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. Print copy shop had defective equipment, refused to offer support or help, resulting in no printing of necessary documents, lost funds, 25 minutes of time to do nothing. I was one of countless customers being treated this way. This store needs to fire, retrain their employees and teach customer service above and beyond all else as a priority. Staples, you want more information? Manager and employees both refused to assist in printing, would not print even a single document, was told they could not print anything until after Monday and this was on Thursday. Meanwhile no printing was in fact being done in your pro copy room, your "manager" was instead standing around eating a meal instead of assisting customers. read more

I've been to this location numerous times over the years and often walked away frustrated with that "wasted time" feeling. Issues I've had range from being out of stock on items, not having a chair assembled (and receiving no call when it was ready requiring me to call) and chair not ready when promised the next day, to very little available staff assist and customer service, but this last time seals the deal with me never going back. I needed 21 copies in a larger, but common size ranges. I was told to use self serve kiosk printers and though I give some credit to a few staff members for intermittently trying to help, I began to feel like I was an employee as the machine kept malfunctioning. Then I was told "we are out of that size paper" WHAT?! How can you be out of any size paper at an office supply store?! After wasting an hour with inconsistently working machines, I decided to call the Staples in nearby Falmouth. They were able to print a large size item I needed on the spot when south portland location had said that it would maybe be ready at noon the next day for same print job. All the xerox machines worked and I was in and out in the time you would expect for what I needed. If you need anything besides basic office supplies, don't waste your time with this store. read more

Some coupons are good, some are great, but the one I got in the mail from staples was fantastic. It was so fantastic I had to read it,twice. This coupon gave me $10 off my $10 purchase. Yes, you are reading this right! I was getting $10 worth of Staples stuff for FREE! Now, granted, there isn't a lot of items to purchase for $10 at Staples, however I was able to pick up some pencils, tape and these really cool set of wipe board crayons. Today I had a last minute emergency the customer service was amazing, professional and I believe her name was Julie saved me getting the work order done last min. Robin the printing "manager" was rude and of no help. She actually threw out my order and made a girl (who told me it was her first week) dig through the trash and give me my crinkled order. All the while Robin is playing with a face roller, rubbing it on her face, asking her co-worker what she thinks it's for. This was the second time I went to get the order because the first time she told me it's my fault that it's the wrong size. Today I brought screen shots of my order in to show it was in fact ordered correctly. Our orders have been printed wrong several times at this location. And as for Robin, you're just rude... I have been doing business at the South Portland Staples for the last 5 years and I can not say enough good things about the staff at this location. I came to this Staples on 4th of July after dropping my phone in the ocean, hoping the dry-tec machine would save my phone. The technician/employee who assisted me was very efficient and kind. 45 minutes or so later, I was walking out of Staples with my working phone in hand. It only cost $70, totally worth it. Overall, the store is always understaffed, you can never find anyone to help support your buying decisions, and today I was told by a Manager that they are too busy to help order some thing that was out of stock after I waited 20 minutes in line. I went on to explain that everyone's busy and everyone is understaffed as it is a very common problem here in Maine and we all need to figure out how to proceed as this is a common denominator for most! Well The last Time I went here to get something scanned . They said " no problem " It took about a day but came out fantastic . This time I went about a year later . with a whole new staff it seemed . They told me they would not scan my art . I thought to be pretty stupid since its their job . This time it seemed more like these people were just laZy and not happy with their job . They just wanted the power of rejecting someone . I had an excellent experience at the Staples on Western Avenue. I showed up very late close to closing time. Usually staff can be very frustrating when people do that! Pre-covid I went to this Staples for large format and special printing needs, and found long lines for ordering and 2 to 3+ hour waits for production. I had occasion to drive through August on business and checked out that Staples and found eager and helpful (though not always very experienced) staff, who do do my printing while I waited. The staff was even open to tricks I knew about printing or scanning from different machines, and seemed to appreciate learning new skills. Don't drive the hour-plus to use the August branch now, but intend to when Covid is put to bed. I'd give them a 5-star rating. The moral is: all Staples are not alike, though the inventory and branding make it seem so. Shop around! read more

You don't have very many other choices and staples has some okay prices and an okay selection. If you have a few weeks until you need to print something or buy something, DONT GO HERE. Find a local printer (BUY LOCAL), drive up to the office max in Auburn, order online, do SOMETHING ELSE. Below is a really verbose and angry rant that you are free to ignore. Frankly, Staples will probably never get my business again and that's really all that is relevant. ---------------------------------------- My mother was the first to call staples regarding a printing question. My grandfather had just died (please don't offer me condolences, this is just relevant to the review), and she wanted to price out printing some materials for those attending the funeral, which was to be held in 3 weeks. The woman on the phone was INCREDIBLY rude to her and put her on hold for over ten minutes. Here's the thing- with smart phones, we can tell how long you put her on hold. My mother explained what she was looking for and the woman refused to help her over the phone and told her she had to do it online. Look, my mom is smart, but she was part of a generation that didn't have to use computers and as a preschool teacher, it's not like she really needs to develop advanced design skills. My mother attempted to use the site and started sobbing. GREAT THANKS STAPLES. TBH, at this point, I wanted to give Staples the benefit of the doubt. My mother was definitely having a bad day/week/month for totally understandable reasons and perhaps the lady just didn't know or care or was also having a bad day. I called Staples a few days later and was also put on hold for an extremely long window of time. A new lady then told me that I pretty much HAD to pay this exorbitant design fee to have them format something. I attempted to use the website, but I kept hitting a word limit on the text boxes and the site itself is not very intuitive nor user friendly. I then formatted it myself using Microsoft publisher and put the file on a flash drive to just have the document copied. After waiting in line at the store for several minutes, I was told to email it to them. I stepped out of line to do that via my phone (because there were SEVERAL others behind me) and then had to get back into line and wait more time to even confirm that they received it. Here's the only positive part of my whole Staples experience. The woman (Christina?) that helped me actually decide on paper options and quantity was really nice. She printed me a proof to show my family and gave me color and weight of paper options. She also discussed cuts and cutting fees and how to make it look the best. Go lady, you deserve a huge raise or probably a better job. Upon pickup, the stuff looked okay, but not amazing. At this point, I didn't have time or energy to be picky. I went to pay for my order and for some reason, the man ringing me up couldn't get the charges right. Look, I'm an honest person. The cost was supposed to be around fifty dollars and not four dollars. I watched Christina (the only positive to this whole experience) print out two tags and write a note on them with exactly how to charge me. It took several minutes for the guy to figure out how to charge me. He was not apologetic and seemed kind of pissy that I was telling him he was supposed to charge me more money. SERIOUSLY? Look, maybe this was just a random bad experience. However, our "saga" spanned over a week and we dealt with a total of three or four people. They kept telling other customers on the phone and in line at the store, "this is a large print volume store...we are always very busy and always have a wait to print things or consult regarding a project". Perhaps if you are such a consistently large volume store, your district should budget you more labor hours for the print center? OR you should take appointments, which I requested and would have been happy to make, but they don't offer them. tl;dr - NEVER AGAIN read more

I was very disappointed with my last visit to Staples. I was happy that they opened early so I could get there to buy the items I needed and get to work rather quickly. When I got there - there was maybe 1 or 2 other customers in the store and about 10 employees chatting at the front near the service desk. I made my way to the laptops, which are right in front of this service desk and was looking around for at least 5 minutes, several employees looked at me, not one came to help. So I made my way to the back of the store where I needed to purchase a desk chair. Again, no one cared to help - even as they were chatting with each other and walk right by me. I literally had to chase someone down to help. I would have done this myself if the chairs were not stocked out back. As the employee was getting my chairs, I went back to laptops and then had to ask for assistance. I picked the one I wanted and she went to the stock room. Come to find out they have only 1 type of laptop in stock. I was really shocked by this and frustrated. They were going to send me to another store in another town to get the computer. I decided to wait (another 15) minutes for my chairs to come out. then they offered to "help" me load the chairs into my car. They did nothing but watched me to this myself and take the cart. I was just very dissapointed by the customer service here, especially this early in the morning when I am one of the only people in the store. I went in there to spend a good amount of money and I really felt as if I was a burden more than a customer. Online has always been great so I give a 2, but I will avoid going into this store in the future. read more

I sooooooo wish there were other options for photocopying around here. The staff are friendly and all, but time and again I can never seem to get what I need done here in a timely manner and correct. Sure, they give me dozens of copies free because they mess up, but the aggravation isn't worth it. Once again today I'm leaving with materials that were supposed to be color that are now black-and-white. Based on past experience the files were in a folder on my USB that I cleverly titled "11 x 17 Color 1-sided" thinking to myself... "Who could possibly mess that up?" but after the amount of time I just spent here waiting on this I'm bailing with my free black-and-whites. read more

Needed the services of the copy and office center. The normal staff was at lunch, so the store manager was manning the area. All I needed was a quick 5 minute binding job. The store manager didn't know how to run the machine, and then informed me I would need to leave it for TWO DAYS! She was arrogant, rude, and incompetent. The manager was then called over the PA system to the cashier area, where I watched her argue with another customer! Took my document to the South Portland store where they had it bound in minutes. They completely screwed up our friends' wedding programs and then, out of nowhere and very aggressively accused us of a "con job" when we tried to get them to redo it.
