The server we had should not be working there. Went to the 1:30 Toy Story 5 show because we love the seats and how clean and nice this theatre is. We also knew its opening weekend and would wait a bit. Was impressed that the wait wasn't nearly as long as we thought it would be to order. Food was delicious and the people that dropped our food and drinks off were so friendly. The 3 stars is 100% because of our server. She looked like she was being forced to work there. Even my young son asked why she was so mad when she walked away from taking our order. She just walked up, never said hi, took our order and walked away. I mentioned before we ordered that I have a gift card I would like to use for part of the bill and she said ok. At the end when I got our bill she just ran my credit card and never took my gift card. I hit the button, she came back and I mentioned I wanted to use the gift card for part of it remember I mentioned it before we ordered? Easy mistake, it's ok, but she just took the gift card and walked away. She never apologized. Was the worst server I have ever had. Went to the movie here for the first time a couple weeks ago. Nice place very clean. Seats are very comfortable. They said the seats were heated. Mine didn't work, my husband's did. Food was good, prices were very inflated. They charged a fee then wanted a tip. No tip from us. Next time we will not have lunch or dinner. Just popcorn and a drink. read more

Really enjoying the remodel and new seats ( with heat!). I do still miss the old menu from iPic though, years later. They had fantastic sliders and tots. Star Cinema would benefit from a less movie-themed menu, and go back to the basics of what people are looking to eat. We have had a mixed experience with the popcorn - sometimes stale/not warm. This theater is located in the Arboretum, with many shops and dining options. Upon arriving, no one was at the front desk, but there is a kiosk to check yourself in. Afterward, we spoke with Jeremy, who was behind the bar, and mentioned that this was our first time here. He gave us an overview of the place, mentioned where to find the restrooms, recommended the Emerald City drink; and once we got settled in our seats to look over the menu and push the button on the table, and he would come to grab our order, which we did. We sat in the pods, which, we think are the best seats. We decided to try the Emerald City drink and ordered the tenders: BBQ and garlic parmesan. It came with fries, and we also received complimentary popcorn. We didn't realize how big the tenders were. It was a big meal and, for us, actually shareable. They are meaty and delicious. The popcorn was a bit salty for us. Jeremy did mention that it was just him and the chef and that he would try to get us our order as fast as possible. We appreciated his honesty and were okay with this, especially since we were the only ones in the theater watching Wicked. We will definitely be back to watch more movies! read more

I would just recommend ordering all of your food in the beginning of the movie, anything ordered or refilled during the movie took A LONG TIME to get out! My husband and I went to this theater on Nov 22 to watch Rental Family (9:20pm) for what was supposed to be a quiet, romantic movie night. The theater was nearly empty, just us and one other couple. Unfortunately, that couple talked and laughed loudly through the movie. When I politely asked them to lower their voices, they mocked my accent. When I mentioned that I'm from Ukraine, the woman told me to "go back to Ukraine." In 21 years of living in the U.S, a country built by immigrants, I have never experienced anything like that. Everyone deserves respect and basic human decency. I reported the incident to the staff. They came into the auditorium, but the couple loudly stated they were members, and the situation did not improve. After the staff left, the couple continued being disruptive until they eventually walked out halfway through the film. No one checked on us afterward. I now feel uneasy about returning to this theater. Harassment should never be dismissed or tolerated, regardless of someone's membership status. Guests deserve to feel safe, and stronger action should have been taken. An eventful night, but not in the way we hoped. read more

The facility is very nice. The lobby is cozy and comfortable allowing for visiting prior to catching a movie. The theater is comfortable, clean, had great sound, and a nice screen. Unfortunately, the service was very slow. My initial order was quick, but I waited 10 minutes for a refill of popcorn. The biggest problem was the heart, or lack there of. I asked the server about making it warmer and they apologized by saying it doesn't work and they even have a space heater up too. This means the facility knew the heat wasn't working but never bothered to tell us upon entry. They willingly knew we would be uncomfortable and sold us the tickets anyways without any warning. This tells me, as an establishment, they have no regard for their clientele. They apparently will do anything to insure your money is taken at all costs. First time going to watch a movie here since they took over the old iPic Theater. Very similar to the previous set up but some noticeable improvements. The seats are bigger and a little more comfortable. The tables at each seat is more substantial and sturdy. They also move in and out to give the right amount of space depending on how you're sitting. I though this was a nice touch. Also each table has a server call button that makes it easier to order food and drinks. This was a big improvement that we really liked. The food was good and the menu has a good selection without being overwhelming. I guess I should mention the theater, since this is a movie theater. The only thing we didn't like was being asked for our check during the final climactic scene of the movie, but we waited and paid as soon as the credits rolled. Pricing wasn't too bad for food. We ordered the hummus and veggies and a couple of drinks. The signature drink, "The Continental," was a more flavorful version of an old fashioned with fruit in it as well. We have been going here for a month now and the experience changes everytime the first time we came we got good service with food and drinks the second time we were in a movie theater the room was at least 50 degrees we had blankets and pillows we brought in and we were still freezing even with the heated seats that stay on for 4-5 mins max The 18% percent gratuity fee is pretty greedy considering the fact that the waiters know you have to pay it so they dont check up on you just deliver your food and check but when you ask them for condiments they say the will be back with them and then never bring them but will bring the check when the movie is about to end So for the terrible service I don't think they deserve it My girlfriend had a bloody nose and we were waiting for the waitress to come back but she never did till the end of the movie I had to go and get her some napkins from the restroom to get the bleeding to stop Very poor service and a very bad experience at the south barrington arboretum we will not be back and will be letting everyone know about our experiences there after we were price gouged for a poor experience read more

My husband and I went here yesterday for an early evening movie. For full disclosure, the poor guy at the ticket desk was also the guy that came to take our order (and this is an 8 room theater). However... when we walked in, there was no one else in the lobby and we were the only ones in the entire theater room that we were in. This is NOT a rating on the movie (the new joker movie is trash though - don't do it). For anyone who enjoyed iPic, it looks the same on the inside. It's tasteful, upscale and well kept. The theater rooms have some great upgrades (such as heated seats and more private 2-person pods). We had to call for service (the young man, nor did anyone come see if we wanted anything). To save him a trip we gave him a drink and appetizer order. He came back with popcorn, drinks & the app, quickly. We had to call again for dinner service. Dinner was also good. However there was no other service- they never checked on us, asked if we needed anything, nothing. It was Jere's the bill - and we had to track someone down to pay after the movie was over. We found two employees talking at the register (neither were our server). The food was very good. Same with drinks. Sadly though the overall service and lack of customer service (especially after we knew what it used to be with iPic) means an 100$ night wasn't really worth it. Meh - think twice. read more

I've always liked the amenities at SCG, and I've been going there for years. The staff is always attentive and kind. Went to see Nuremberg in Theatre 3 on Nov 8, afternoon viewing. There was no heat in the theatre, it was cold, really cold. Like winter jacket cold. Staff issued blankets, they apologized and said the heat's been out since earlier in the week. Stayed to watch the movie but it was uncomfortable. Hopefully they had it fixed for the evening show. read more

When we arrived at 7:40 there was no one at the front desk and the movie starts at 7:50. We had to ask for someone to assist us at the bar, in less than 10 minutes someone was there to check us in. We received a coupon in the mail for two free tickets to a movie and free popcorn, we were excited to come to the movies. When we arrived at our seats there was a rolled up dark gray blanket on each seat and a menu in the slot on the tray table. The seats are electric and lay back, they have a button to heat them up! We pushed the order button on the top center of the tray table and a red light came on. Within 5 minutes our waitress showed up and took our order. We ordered at 8:05pm. Drinks (unsweetened iced tea for me and a Diet Coke for my husband) and we ordered the nachos with carne asada. Another server gave both my husband and I our own small bowl of popcorn. The popcorn was really salty but still very good. It was 9pm and we still did not get our drinks or nachos. We pushed the order button again and asked about our order and the waitress looked confused and asked what we ordered and said she would check on it. We waited another 15 minutes and she brought us our food. The nachos were delicious and came in a large portion which was perfect for sharing. My husband asked for a refill on his Diet Coke (32 oz) and they gave him one (Free refills) It was too dark to eat so I used my cell phone light on the lowest setting. It would be nice to have a battery operated candle or a small light on the tray table. The seats we sat in were way in the back area and there is a wall around the seats so I don't think having a small light would bother anyone else. So even though we had to wait so long and they forgot about us, they redeemed themselves and we had an enjoyable time. I recommend if you order and don't get your order in 20 minutes push the button and ask, just incase they forgot. We do recommend coming here for date night or even to celebrate a special occasion, it is very impressive and out of the ordinary which is refreshing. read more

We have attended movies at Star Cinema in South Barrington, Illinois for years but tonight we were swindled out of our money. Recently, the cinema made a practice of adding a mandatory 18% gratuity to all guests checks or food order. The gratuity add-on is buried at the bottom of the menu list, so you will not see it. The cinema takes your food order in a darkened room, you get your receipt in a darkened room, and you pay in a darkened room. The perfect dark venue for a price swindle, meaning, you don't know what happened until its too late. Basically, the movie cinema swindled us out of $5.58 (see photo) but I hope our pain is your gain. Do not be a victim and avoid their food menu. We have been to this theater about half a dozen times since they reopened from when it was iPic. Every time we've gone, there have been some kind of growing pains, whether it's with the staff being under trained, whether it be the food not being great, whether it be the servers having some issues, it's always something. A few times I had to reach out to management and once they comped our tickets and gave us other passes and such. My family experienced a really bad experience right before Christmas and none of us wanted to go back. There was an evening where there was like a cookie and hot chocolate special for the Holidays. The food was really bad, it was very bad service, just a really poor evening when we went to go see Avatar: The Way of Water. I decided to reach out one final time to a manager there after sending two emails which were never replied to. I was confident they didn't care, and it was going to be a terrible experience. I was so wrong. There was a manager there training people I believe from Texas or Florida I cannot remember, but she was unbelievable. So kind, so in tune, so helpful. She insisted we take four passes to give them one final chance. We booked Ant-man and we all went today. She said they were going to comp our meal so I called last night, spoke to the general manager Tony to make sure it was really happening, and he confirmed it absolutely was. When we went today, it was like an entirely different experience. The servers were awesome, the Manager was great, the new food menu they have for brunch was fantastic. Sure, there were little tweaks they could make with the food like, for example, with the breakfast tacos maybe toss on a little drizzle of like a Crema or some thing, but otherwise it was really good. They comped the bill, but we insisted to tip the waiter obviously. He was so kind and so gracious. We will definitely be coming back, spending our money, because I think it really was just growing pains. They went out of the way to keep our business and boy did they ever. Hi. Am I able to upload pictures? I was at the South Barrington location on Thursday, June 19th. We saw Lilo and Stich. My table and several other tables were dirty with cups/plates trash. I tired to get somebody to clean, it was already time for the movie to start though. I moved the trash to a table behind as we appeared to be the only ones in the theatre. I had to get a napkin to wipe the table down the best I could. There were about 5 or 6 tables with trash old food. It made it for a really bad experience. We go to this location a few times a year and have never experienced this before. Star Cinema charges way too much for this type of experience. we spent about 200.00 on tickets and food for 3 people, I don't expect to have to move the last patrons trash and food off my table. My first time with my husband at Star Cinema Grill. Its been years since we last visited when it was iPics. We got a flyer in the mail for 2 free tickets redeemable at the box office. So we decided tonight would be a good night to watch Woman King. The staff was very kind too as I called to change my tickets from 7pm showing to 8:30pm. They were not only accommodating but also very friendly. The theater inside was beautifully decorated. Huge bar and plenty of seating. It felt very trendy and cozy inside. Even saw some guests at the other end of the building playing pool. It seemed like a great place to have a few drinks and play pool even if you didn't want to watch a movie. The seats were awesome as they are heated and they recline. They provided blankets as well. Free popcorn too. The drinks are good and reasonably priced. The popcorn was good too. We didn't order food because we had dinner beforehand but based on tonight's experience we will DEFINITELY be back to continue to give them our business. Thanks Star Cinema for the free tickets. The place is beautiful! they have a bar, lovely seating areas with fires, pool table and just a great atmosphere. the theatre is super comfy with seats that recline and are heated!!! some seats are private date booths and come with blankets! you can order delicious food and drinks that come with free refills (soft drinks). Seats are heated, and have dividers. Your own little area. Very cool and not too high of price. Free popcorn and blanket as well with the vip seats. We ordered some food. A chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, and godfather pizza. My wife and daughter went a few weeks earlier and got southwest egg rolls, sweet potatoes fries, a burger and regular fries. My wife was disappointed because she liked the sweet potato fries last time. They were thinner and crispy (as she likes). This time they were thicker and soggy. Daughter did not like the burger. Wife did like her chicken sandwich. I liked the pizza flavor, but, it was very soggy. Had to ask for a fork & knife to eat it. One other issue. My wife said, "No pickles in my sandwich, I'm allergic. But you can bring them on the side, my husband will eat them". Well, they came on the sandwich. We didn't make a big deal out of it. We just took them off. Not good when you say you are allergic to something and it is in your sandwich though.
