Food menu was not very realistic add $5 for chicken on your quesadillas add $6 for steak everything was an up charge Fries $6 Sodas $9.00 no disposable cups to take your drink with you pizza was $19 and not tasty at all very overcooked Wings were cooked in old grease disgusting wings Blankets were good but Sever wasn't friendly Seats were comfortable and heated that was a plus. Went there for a date with the premium seats. Got in, there's no one checking in. After a few minutes we tried the auto kiosk thing which is horrible. No luck. Gave up waiting for anyone to say Hi or Welcome and just went to theatre. Screen 7 - walked in and an instant mildew ish funk in the air. Sat down in our seats, and pulled out a phone light to find the seat button. Holy cow were the privacy walls FILTHY. It was like a 5 year old smeared butter all over them. The center table thing was all ripped up - and it was just gross. No one ever came by to see if we wanted anything - and granted we never hit the service button, but ummmm popcorn is included in the tickets..... We've been going to this location for years. It just keeps going downhill. Will be looking elsewhere from now on. Literally ran home to take a shower after this experience. read more

visited this theater in what's supposed to be an affluent area south of Barrington with a close friend and their kids to see Mario on a weekday afternoon. We were the only people in the theater, yet the experience was surprisingly poor. Our orders were incorrect, and it took over an hour and a half for my meal to arrive. When it finally did, there was paper stuck between the cheese, which was completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, after paying, I stopped to grab M&Ms and was told I couldn't purchase candy because everything had to be ordered through table service. That level of rigidity, especially with no other customers around, made no sense. This place has clearly changed and not for the better. Management needs to take a serious look at operations here, because experiences like this will drive customers away. I would not recommend this theater. read more

Very comfortable theater , better seats then most AMCs and Regal tickets are also cheaper . The membership is also worth it as you'll pay like 5$ more than for your ticket but you'll be able to go all month and see more movies for technically free . Service is extremely slow though and they forget your order many times . The constant delay of service ruins the purpose of them bringing you your items to your seat , as you're better off going to get your stuff then waiting until they feel like bringing you your item . Place could be cleaner specially with the "premium" vibe they try to give off . Place could easily be 5stars if they improve the people they hire & if they slightly improve the cleanliness of this location , regardless it's still better then most theaters in chicago . read more

Worst experience ever. We arrived at 7:30 for a 7:55 showtime. We had to hit our little light for anyone to even acknowledged that we were there. We ordered everything when she came to take the drink order. Drinks didn't arrive until 8:35. Food arrived at 8:48. Food was super expensive and tasted disgusting. They gave us a regular hamburger instead of a short rib /brisket burger we ordered. The two are not supposed to taste exactly the same and we knew what an actual hamburger tasted like and that's what they gave us instead of what we ordered. Then the lights went all the way up in the theater before the movie even ended. So pathetic we would never go back. We handed off the free passes that they gave us as a sorry to people walking in the building because we will never be going back. read more

We liked this theatre a lot. Aside from the restrooms, it's very clean and updated. The movie screens and audio are great. The reclining chairs are large and comfortable. The servers bring your food directly to your seats. We only ordered a flatbread, but it was decent quality. The matinee price was reasonable, parking was easy and there are stores and restaurants all right next to the theatre. Would definitely return. read more

Gave it a second chance by visiting their other location and was underwhelmed. Nowhere on their ticket purchases does it say there is/can be a premium additional charge for a movie that just came out. So I paid more money for the matinee/student charge. It was explained to me when I asked, but no rationale could be given why that fee isn't posted ANYWHERE! They already charge more than other theaters, and nothing was up and running to order at the early show. So what's special? Nothing. It looked like the few employees there were still waking up. Discount Tuesday tickets are $6! Great deal on Tuesday. Very comfortable seating, chairs recline. If you go as a party of three it's best to sit at the end so the third person gets an Individual table. I ordered the southwest egg rolls. The portions were good. Easy to share and eat. Star Cinema Grill has turned it all around and quickly became our go-to movie theater! It is still such a hidden gem that has lived up to its potential and made large improvements to their service. From my previous review, there were definitely some service issues back then that they have most definitely kinked out. A new general manager, Destini, was brought in who has definitely taken the lead in improving the business. The theater is so comfortable, with every seat being a recliner chair. It's really refreshing not to have to pay a premium price for comfortability compared to many other theaters! I highly recommend purchasing seats within row D and E. Preferably E. It is a smaller theater and these rows are the furthest from the screen, which is always my preference so I don't go cross-eyed. Service has improved, employees are quicker to respond to call lights. Food arrives well coordinated and with enough time to enjoy the rest of the movie. There is even better enthusiasm from the waiters who are kind and make you feel comfortable. I think my only note on this is that perhaps servers could keep straws and utensils in their pockets on their aprons to help avoid walking back and forth. I feel so bad for putting my call light on to ask for utensils after they handed out my order. Food tastes great and is becoming more and more consistent! I did order my go-to banana split but was given a sundae, and our waiter was really great at resolving it! My favorites are the Loaded Fries ($13) which we add Carne Asada to (+$6). They are simply the best fries I have ever had. Their Banana Split ($13) is super tasty with the fresh bananas, strawberries, and pineapple. I literally order it every time no matter how full I am! I can't resist it. Price wise, I think they are completely fair and affordable. There is a student/military/senior discount that is really appreciated. I believe they also have sales on Tuesdays like many theaters do. You can purchase tickets in advance. I like to go in person to avoid the $2 convenience fee. Outside of the theater are billiard tables, a bar, and plenty of lounge areas. Star Cinema Grill has truly become a rising star... get it?! Truly, it has actually become my favorite theater and I almost feel spoiled and like no other theater can measure up anymore. The service is subpar. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my husband had the burger. It was nothing to brag about. The fries were fresh and hot. Our server never checked on us. Maybe my expectations were too high. If you're going to have drinks and enjoy a movie, great place to go. Don't expect quality customer service. This was just my experience. My boyfriend and I came for a date night. The vibe and atmosphere are great. The seats reclined and are heated which is great. The food however is not good. We ordered hot pretzels and when they arrived they weren't hot. The sliders my boyfriend had were over cooked. I had salmon tacos which were very dry but also sweet. Review based mostly on theater experience. When you walk in it's very unassuming. Both escalators are out so we took the elevator. Unfortunately the elevator smelled of vomit. Once we reached concessions we were pleasantly surprised. The setup is very nice. They have pool tables a bar and a seating area. We didn't get a chance to play pool or have a drink but would indulge if we come back. The theater has reclining seats and you order in. We only ordered popcorn. I can't believe I'm saying this but if you order butter ask for a light amount. Our popcorn was soaked. Overall the theater was great and the seats were very comfortable. My husband and I went to a matinee showing at Star Cinema, and we splurged on the premium pod as it was a day date. The server was extremely attentive, bringing us unlimited popcorn refills and timely bringing a blanket so we weren't cold in the theater. The seats were really comfortable, and I loved how the pod gave more of an effect of being on a couch at home watching a movie. Felt like a very individualized experience, and I'm glad we came despite other negative reviews on Star Cinema. Definitely recommend based on our experience!! read more

My first experience at this theater was when we went to see Top Gun and sat in the premium seating. Everything was good on that visit, and we enjoyed the seating. However, today the story is very different. We went to see Avatar, which is a movie that is 3+ hours long. We were greeted by a server fairly shortly after finding our seats. I forget the young woman's name and it didn't appear on our receipt. My husband ordered a cocktail and I just had a glass of water and we placed our food order. He ordered the classic burger, which was a half pound burger. However, the burger he received was nowhere near a half pound, much smaller. I thought it was a slider at first. He thinks he got the mission impossible burger (1/4 lb burger) instead of what he ordered, but didn't realize until after he ate it. I ordered the cauliflower rice bowl with seared tuna. My husband's burger was served under 30 minutes. Nice! A half an hour after his burger was served and he finished it, I still didn't have my food. Hmmm? I pushed my button for service and our server did not show up but someone else. I told him that I was still waiting on my food and he asked what my order was and that he'd check on it. Another 15-20 minutes passed before I was served the wrong entrée by someone other than our server. The young woman who was introduced herself as our server, never came back to check on us, never asked to see if my husband wanted another cocktail which he did, or if we wanted to order anything else. And again, the movie was more than three hours long. I finally went out to the lobby and talked to a manager saying that I was still without my food an hour and a half into the movie. She claimed that it came out of the kitchen, but didn't look right so they sent it back to remake. I said just take it off the bill that this was ridiculous. I had to wait so long and now I was missing the movie talking to her outside at the theater. She offered to take it off the bill and still serve my food when it was ready. I eventually received my food. Toward the end of the movie the young woman who first greeted us as our server came by with the bill. My cauliflower bowl was on the bill. I took the bill from my husband and wrote on it that they should deduct the cost of my food for their incompetence in serving the wrong entrée and for delivering my meal extremely late. Our server came back in a huff and said she wasn't going to close out our bill and we would have to go to the lobby to pay. Once again, I left the movie and asked to talk to a manager outside of the theater missing more of the movie. After talking to manager #2, she removed the cost of my food and brought the bill into the theater when I said I was going back into the movie because I didn't want to miss the end of the movie, which turned out to be a moot point since I already missed the end when I walked back in the theater. I seriously doubt if I'll be back to Star Cinema after today's frustrating experience. I missed chunks of the movie talking to two managers leaving the theater to do so, sat without food for more than an hour and a half after everyone around me was served, was served the wrong entrée, and then had to ask for the cost to be deducted from the bill. I do have to say that the second manager did remove the cost and did bring the bill into the theater - so that was a plus. read more

Ordered 2 tickets to see Wicked and they charged me twice (for 4 tickets). No big deal because I plan on returning to see Moana so I planned on receiving a credit. You press the button and wait for them to check on you but it takes them 20-25 minutes for you to come out after you press it. When they finally got hear, they didn't have anymore pizzas for my daughter. No big deal, she loves pretzels. I asked for pretzels and the waiter said that they were extremely hard today and she doesn't know why so she wouldn't recommend that we get that. I then shoot for spinach & artichoke dip because you can't mess that up. I ordered my daughter a cheese quesadilla. The spinach and artichoke dip came out and unfortunately, it was cold and the spinach and artichoke dip at Applebees tastes better than the one that I received today. Luckily, my daughter enjoyed her cheese quesadilla but mostly ate the fries. The best part is... we planned to get blankets but no! They ran out of those..... Will I ever be back? read more

My husband and I got here before 9:00 for a 9:20 movie. The theater wasn't clean until 9:30. We paid for the VIP seats and didn't get the blankets that we were supposed to until we asked about an hour into the movie. We pressed the button on the table right when we sat down and didn't see a server until 9:48. The servers were VERY nice and got our things quickly. The only reason for more than 1 star is because of the servers. read more

It's a shame that a facility so beautiful has such a poor staff. My husband and I have been 4 times now and each time we've had at least 2 wait staff ignore us or forget about us after we've requested something. It got to a point most recently where I had to wait outside the kitchen and miss part of our movie to get what I had requested on three separate occasions. It wasn't until the manager showed up that I told her what was happening that we actually got our order within a few minutes. For something so costly, their wait staff should be better. This theater is AWESOME! It is our new place to go for movies. We sat in a pod, which was the coolest thing ever. We had a very nice waiter bring us food and drinks and popcorn. The food was delicious, we recommend the "Love me tenders" chicken tenders and the nachos with Carne asada. The Manager, Destini, was so nice, and she made sure everything was perfect from the great customer service to the food quality to the cleanliness.
