We had an incredible time at star eco station meeting exotic rescued animals. The reptiles were our favorite. The kids and adults gained a new respect and understanding of these precious creatures we share the earth with.

Our family loves Star Eco Station! We also love supporting their mission as an environmental science museum, an exotic wildlife rescue center, and a haven for endangered and illegally-trafficked exotic animals confiscated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It's not a large place and no super fancy bells and whistles, but it is so fun to walk through and learn about all the animals that are there. Each tour is guided by an Eco Station staff member, and we learned so many fun animal facts and surprising rescue stories. The kids loved the hands-on animal encounters and environmental exhibits. I also appreciated their messaging to teach kids about innovative approaches to going green. Highly recommend! No reservations needed and visitors are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Inspired by their efforts and left a happy family!

I made a stop at the STAR Eco Station this last Saturday. It was awesome! My tour guide was very knowledgeble of the animals backstories and habits! I saw fish, turtles, a bobcat, a fox, lizards, snakes, tarantulas, parrots, and much more! I got to pet a snake and a lizard, and "high-five" a tarantula! I love knowing that all the animals were rescued and some of them are even up for adoption! I'm happy that all the animals at the Star Eco Station are well-cared for and that the public is able to see them! For the record: You can park in front of the building on Jefferson Blvd. at the meters, or park in the back of the building for free!

On my first visit, the Culver City Book Fair was occupying the back garden space and it was a lot fun to walk through browsing through books and chatting to publishers. The museum itself was a hodge podge of Cold War artifacts (statues, Soviet books, assorted items like cameras and recording machines and mementoes) displayed along with art on the walls. Local California-artists are sometimes represented with their photographs and painting also taking up space during some of their special exhibits, as the curators try to align the theme of communism with left-wing ideas of social justice and racial discrimnation. Beyond the art on the walls, however, and far more interesting, are LOTS of special events and regular programs like (free) yoga, meditation, lectures/talks, amazing jazz music on certain evenings. The museum sends out a newsletter monthly listing all the upcoming events. All in all a fantastic (cost-free) resource for the Culver City community and for the Westside of LA in general.

I am so disappointed that after all this time and the loss of some great galleries and historic buildings this "art prison" is what Los Angeles is left with. I felt my faith in this institution slightly restored by walking through the BCAM after my dismal experience in the David Geffen Galleries. Just like folks have said in the reviews, this is NOT the La Brea Tar Pits that you remember. The inside/indoor museum is tiny. Yes, the museum still has found fossils of sloths, wolves, and saber-tooth cats. Incomplete and complete. However, not as many as there were in the past. The glass-walled fossil lab is still there. My visit included 3 scientists, cleaning and studying bones. However, since people were packed inside like sardines and cluttered around/near/in front of exhibits/lab/entrance/exit, it was pretty difficult to read, view, observe, and enjoy our inside/indoor tiny museum visit. There seems to not be a capacity limit, making it impossible to escape quickly in an emergency. You pay $18 admission (or $13 on Groupon, which I recommend) for each adult. Less for kids and elderly. They have their own parking lot. Which is debit/credit card only. You pay a flat rate fee of $20 if you use their official lot. Which was filled to capacity. So we used another paid parking lot across the street from that one. The unofficial parking lot across the street is $3 for 15 minutes. We were charged $18.00 for their Saturday & Sunday max rate. I think it's $24.00 max rate, Monday-Friday. I don't recommend any of these paid parking lots unless you don't mind throwing unnecessary money at a parking lot that doesn't appear to have any security patrols/monitoring. A lot of the good stuff is outside/outdoor in the park area and FREE. Like pools of bubbling natural tar and life-sized mammoth models. But most of those were closed off. Don't get me started on the souvenir prices at their overprice gift shop. They are through the roof. An example is the $30 price for a miniature sno globe that can fit in a new born baby's hand. Additionally, most of the souvenirs don't say Lab Brea Tar Pits, or similar, and are generic. Bottom line, if you visit after July 2028, find free public parking on street. If you can walk, you will find free available parking nearby. Just make sure you check street signs. So you wont have any parking enforcement issues. Hopefully after 2 year renovation is completed, the inside/indoor museum area will be restored to previous normal size and there will be an ENFORCED capacity limit for visitors.

We weren't overly excited or impressed, there was really no wow factor about this museum. The only more interesting aspect was the exhibition of the early 1900s beginnings of Hollywoodland and the early movie making era. At least now we can say that we been there done that, one more check off our bucket list.

I recently visited the Academy of motion pictures and the current exhibits are fabulous. I…read morespecifically went there to see one of my favorite animation films "Ponyo" but there was so much more to see. They currently have a jaws exhibit, beauty, and the beast, and Barbie as usual they have all of the fabulous costumes from various cinematic greats. It's a must see and definitely worth taking a day to visit. The admission is $25 parking is also around $25. You can get lost in there for an entire day. It's a day well spent. There is a café and a bar and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. if you're looking for something to do in LA this is a place to go. I always enjoy myself and exhibits rotate so there's always something new to see!
