Poor quality, poor customer service. Cute in theory, horrible execution. Felt like a true crappy motel and I feel robbed at $300+/night. Cons: - shower gets COLD quickly and when the toilet is flushed - loud traffic noise (large trucks use the road all night) - room is dark - no front desk service - mildew/mold in bathroom grout and on ceilings - improper room booking - poor business ethics, refusal to own up to their error Pros: - room included coffee, milk, and popcorn - room had mini-split A/C We booked a two night stay as part of a wedding block. No one picked up the phone and it took three attempts across two days to make a reservation, which we made over three months ahead. In the call they asked if we wanted two beds or one king. We told them we had two kids so we definitely wanted two beds. They let us know they only had one room with two beds- great, yes we want to book that room. They told us the differing rates of the rooms and we confirmed that we wanted the double bed room. I didn't get a confirmation email at the time (which I chalked up to their lack of a typical front desk/reception person). ETA: they did finally send a confirmation email one week before we arrived, but we had already left for our trip by that point. Fast forward to three months later... When we arrive, turns out they've put us in a room with just one king bed. There's no "front desk" so you have to text for service. The solution was to offer us a crappy twin air mattress (with sheets only, no comforter??). We still have 4 people... so that meant three of us in one bed aka no sleep (add on the noisy road traffic... they clearly didn't spring for noise insulation in their remodeling). How do they not even have cots?? The air mattress deflated through the night (as cheap ones do). They also clearly didn't upgrade their plumbing; the shower gets cold after 5 minutes and when people flush the toilet. There is no ventilation in the bathroom so there is mold/mildew on the ceiling. Our bathroom sink had a huge gap of cracked caulk and the vinyl plank flooring in the room was bumpy and uneven. Basically this whole place screams cheap DIY remodel and is a total rip off at more than $300/night. The worst part of this experience is that they refused to own up to their mistake. I knew from our phone conversation that they only had one room with two beds. Obviously I would not have booked a stay there if that room was not available. So either their booking person lied to me about its availability OR they forgot to reserve that room for us. Their response to my complaint was "we can refund you but we'll have to charge the bride who had the block." What?? Rather than admit their error and try to rectify their mistake, they want to penalize a third party? Because they chose not to have real staff that is trained to properly make a room reservation? This place is perfection. My partner and I just absconded for a long weekend away and we found our new favorite spot! The design is impeccable - coffee carafe, kettle, mini-fridge w almond milk and whole milk to accompany the stocked coffee and tea bar, super comfy beds and bedding, small desk, and my favorite: a private outdoor deck on the backside of the room with two Adirondack chairs and a side table. Rooms are meticulous. Alix could not have been kinder or more gracious. The outdoor common space is replete with covered and uncovered picnic tables, a grill, outdoor games, a heated pool, a large fire pit w wood and kindling, and tons of space to just hang out. This spot is a haven, and while I want to selfishly keep this motel a secret, I also want you to go visit yourself! Super cautious about Covid; the motel is not fully booked, rooms are aired out for 2 days between guests, contactless check-in and check-out, Alix is super responsive via text, everything felt very safe and very well taken care of. I believe this is a pet friendly hotel, but there was absolutely no evidence of a pet having stayed in my room, which I was grateful for given that I'm super allergic to cats and dogs! Nearby hiking trails at Minnewaska state park and outdoor breweries for some delicious food and drinks. Cannot wait to return! LGBTQIA+ friendly. read more

Very nice experience! We were staying there for a wedding in the area. It was one of the places recommended by the couple. The Starlite delivered as represented in their photos and website. The bonus was that Alex, the manager made a huge effort to make us feel welcome. She sent us recommendations for restaurants and was very responsive to texts when we had a few questions. They provided yummy muffins and doughnuts, but I am gluten free. She went to Kingston and brought back GF muffins and scones. Very kind of her to do that. If you're looking for a clean, cheerful, updated room with a comfortable bed and without the fuss and expense of a resort, The Starlite is great! read more

This place, the owners, the whole experience...I have only good things to say. Great things, actually. I've stayed here twice, and both times have been a top-notch experience. The most recent time was on New Year's Eve, which happens to be my girlfriend's birthday. I asked one of the owners, Alix, if she would be so kind as to help me set up the room a little beforehand with presents and a cake if I brought them ahead of time. Without hesitation she offered to help out however I needed and asked for nothing in return. She absolutely went above and beyond for us...she really made our stay! She was also very attentive and communicative via text the whole time, leading up to and including our stay...she really makes it feel like you're the only one there. Plus, for New Year's, there were complimentary cocktails made from local bourbon left at our doorstep at checkin and a bonfire going all night, AND free local pastries left at our door the next morning! Good god, it was just the best. It's just such a cool place to be. It's unbelievable what they accomplish with the beautiful aesthetics, the effortless hospitality, and just the laid-back feel of the place. The attention to detail the owners pay to everything, aesthetically and otherwise, plus how genuine and caring they are to their guests, is hard to even fathom. There's free Bjorn Qorn in the room, there's a Chemex and ground local coffee, there's phenomenal-smelling soap and shampoo. The rooms are beautiful and clean, the amenities are thoughtful and unique, and there's always a genuine feeling of comfort and relaxation. Regarding COVID and all that, you really couldn't ask for more than how they manage things. The precautions they take are very thorough without being intrusive. They air the rooms out for two full days between guests, they do a contactless check-in, they provide hand sanitizer in the room, and everything else they provide is touch-free and thoughtfully sanitary. Masks are required anywhere on the grounds outside the rooms, and the indoor office area is closed to guests. It's the best and feels very safe. My girlfriend and I are definitely lifers here. It's just an exceptional motel run by exceptional people. read more

Room was great, bed was super comfy, a/c nice and cold, location was perfect, but what really set this apart from the rest was the customer service. Our room not only stocked with complimentary local snacks and coffee but we got a text from staff on our first morning waking up that they had gotten fresh blueberry muffins for us. We will definitely be coming back. read more

LAST RESORT.., yes use this as your last option . Cutesy. good muffins and good bed but that is where it ends . I understand what they were trying to achieve but at almost $375 plus a night I expect some simple amenities. No decent chair to sit in. No hangers in closet to hang a dress or suit. Bathroom door does not close , outside screen door does not close therefore letting mosquitoes in. Room is dark with very poor lighting. Outside lights are on all night .. keeping the room well lit... both in the front and back of the unit .. making it difficult to sleep. Outside chairs available. Partially broken, but uncomfortable.. no cushions. No staff on duty to answer questions...did provide phone number though. Milk to be used for coffee cream in refrigerator was outdated by two weeks. Highway noise was very loud and constant. Not a peaceful place to rest . No television. I went to take a shower and no hot water . This happened twice during my our stay. Water pressure was so low it was very difficult to rinse shampoo from my hair. I would not stay here again. read more

This motel is a class act! I can't wait to return and linger. My work trip put me there for only one night...it pained me to have to leave the next morning without getting to spend the morning lounging around this pretty place. It's a very special spot in a beautiful area, close to lots of upstate destinations. Every detail in my room was considered and attended to so tastefully: from the special in-room coffee set up ( when do you ever get to make a really good cup of coffee in your hotel room??), to the classy font on all the hotel documents, to the art in the rooms and around the compound....I could go on and on about all the little things that make this place a super cozy, clean, nostalgic but very contemporary and well appointed place to spend a night/ weekend/ week. treat yourself to time at this gem! read more

We had a group event at the Starlite Motel and had a fantastic experience. Every detail was thought through and tastefully done. The rooms and the home are suuuuuper comfortable, and the beds...well I wondered if I'd died and gone to heaven ;). The artwork and artistry throughout the property are beautiful. Even the coffee was super deelish, with organic milk and even almond milk available. And - the folks running the place are super nice and generous. The hosts n hostesses with the mostest. For Presidents' Day weekend my wife and I wanted a hiking holiday around Minniwaska State Park. We stayed at the Star Lite Motel we had heard about through friends. So incredibly set up! 10 minutes to the trail head up 44/55, this classic American motel has undergone a full gut renovation with oak floors, the comfiest California king and an aesthetic that rivals boutique hotels of any destination vacation spot. We stayed in February which is normally a bit bleak in the Catskills but the hotel is surrounded by a grove of Pine trees that keep it verdant and cozy even in the deepest of winter. Looking forward to coming up in the summer when the pool and bar are open. Total gem! read more

Charming gem which just opened . My husband and I loved the decor and the attention to detail, especially the local soaps and snacks. Came here , as part of a wedding weekend. Above and beyond expectations. Alix is amazing. Will solve any of your needs. I forgot some things and got a text she would mail to me before I even got back home. A wonderful boutique motel. Comfy beds, bedding, pillows, towels, room stocked with great high end snacks, milk for coffee , delicious complimentary coffee. It is super quiet at night, they are extraordinarily attentive but laid back at the same time. Hard to always achieve this. read more

We were so excited to go to the hotel after reading the nice reviews. Our experience was completely different. It looked very cute but the walls were paper thin, we heard neighbors doing drugs all night. (They we're not being overly loud, the walls just were not built well). We woke up both extremely sore, the bed was very uncomfortable. There was a terrible draft in the room as well. I shivered all night. I think it was coming from the door. We decided to go home rather than stay another night. It's a cute idea, and cute looking for a photo but for the almost $350 we spent per night we were shocked at the quality provided. The owner seemed nice and refunded us our money for the second night and proceeded to write us a bad review. We couldn't have been nicer to her and also told her we meant no trouble at all and could see how much work she put into making the place look aesthetically cute. We feel the need to warn other people not to make the same mistake we did. Stay anywhere else. It's not worth the discomfort for a few cute photos and a free doughnut. read more

Such a gem! We stayed here for the night after a day of winter hiking and were blown away by the tasteful, immaculate decor and the warm vibes. One of the most comfortable (and largest) beds I've ever slept in, I woke up fully rested to have coffee and a scones in the company of lovely fellow travelers. I can't recommend enough, especially as it's a hop, skip and jump up from NYC. The perfect weekend getaway!! read more
