This Star Market is super clean & organized! Free parking lot & accessible via train (red line JFK/UMass stop). Like many Star Markets, this one has a Starbucks inside too! I think the last time I visited was when it was still Shaw's? We were on the hunt for Pokémon cards and ended up getting the last two boxes they had left behind the customer service desk! Staff that helped us were all very kind & helpful with finding what we were looking for... we were in & out haha. Though we didn't buy any groceries this day, everything looked super fresh & clean! This is the second time I've purchased deli meat from Star Market that was labeled as turkey but turned out to be ham. The package was clearly marked as Boar's Head Honey Maple Glazed Turkey, and I purchased it specifically because I eat turkey. When I got home and opened the package, it was obvious the product inside was ham, not turkey. This isn't a minor inconvenience. Some customers have dietary restrictions, allergies, religious reasons, or personal preferences that make accurate labeling extremely important. In my case, I haven't eaten ham in over 30 years, so discovering the mistake after getting home was frustrating and unacceptable. Everyone makes mistakes, but having the exact same issue happen twice raises concerns about quality control and attention to detail at the deli counter. I expect products to be labeled correctly, especially when customers are paying premium prices for Boar's Head deli meats. I hope management reviews their deli procedures to ensure customers receive what they're actually purchasing. read more

Popped in for lunch break and the hot foods section was packed. They moved thru the line pretty quickly and we were able to grab sushi, pizza, fried chicken, wraps, and Starbucks all in one location. Parking is ample, we walked from JFK station and got food in our system and moved on! Bathrooms are via lockcode as many places are so the line for that was long. If you didn't know, now you do! I am shocked myself that it took me this long to try Star Market/Shaws deli subs. Shoutout to the worker who made my sub (12/1/23)! Super friendly and definitely know great customer service. Kudos to you, brother! I ordered two different subs that day. I got a turkey sub for my wife and an Italian sub for myself. The deli meat they use is Boars Head. Definitely a great quality deli meat. Each sub was ONLY $8. It's definitely a foot long sub or longer. I got both our subs with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, hots, and chipotle Mayo. TIP : if you can handle the heat, I highly recommend getting chipotle Mayo as a spread. You won't be disappointed! Highly recommend coming here for lunch or if you're doing your weekly market run, grab a sub . I'm definitely coming back to try their tuna sub! read more

I went shopping here last night with a friend. We were walking down the main aisle at the back of the store, heading towards the meat section. A huge rat ran across the floor about 10 feet in front of us and hid under a display case. It was disgusting. We decided to stop shopping and go to checkout. We headed down the first aisle we could to get to the registers. On the way down the aisle we saw a man standing there. He said "I can't believe what I just saw ". We thought he saw the rat as well, so we asked him. He told us that he didn't see the rat, but that a mouse had just run in front of his cart and into the lower shelves. That's 2 rodent sightings in less than a minute. It makes you wonder how many more are lurking around that we didn't see! We'll never go back there again. Awful experience! read more

I spent 35 mins looking for a cart. I went out and grab at least 7 carts and all were locked. I asked a woman if she could help me. She refused to. She say she doesn't work in that department.... Okay. So how do you expect to shop when there is no carts, no basket , nothing to shop with. After circling in and back out the store to the parking lot looking for cart. I refuse to shop here. This has got to be the cleanest most well organized and well kept Supermarket I've ever been in. The Produce by the main entrance is mesmerizing followed by the tidiness of every following section and or aisle. So if you're ever in this part of town give them a check out you will definitely enjoy your shopping experience here. Super well stocked and they even have knick knacks you wouldn't expect ie a wool knit cap from Ireland I once bought here etc. read more

The prices are fair, only get the deal when they are on sale. This store is not allowed my little Yorkshire goes in the store in the middle of hot summer heat outside. My dog inside my backpack! This is one of the better markets in the area. Price wise it's a little higher than most but in terms of quality and freshness you pay for what you get I guess. I personally would rather pay a little more and have some organic options which this store allows you to do. Upon walking in the store is clean and well organized. The produce section is also very clean and organized. They have some higher end items here as well such as special cheese that are not always available at local markets. My favorite part is the two aisles dedicated to organic products. Most of the time they also have sales and you can catch a great deal. I've never had bad service here I find that most of the cashiers are nice. Overall for this area of Boston this store has the best selection and quality. They even have a nice salad bar, soups and sushi! Not that I would eat sushi from here... (I am a sushi snob) but good to know for others who might like supermarket sushi! :) read more

This is the worst grocery store in Dorchester which is shocking considering the location of the other grocery stores. The lines at this grocery store always go into the aisles. The majority of the employees are so nasty and so rude!! Like the middle aged lady who was berating one of the baggers (who has special needs) in the garden dept and when I spoke up home girl told me to mind my own business. WORD. Or the barista in the morning who won't greet you but just look at you like "what do you want" The produce here sucks. The prices are outrageous. The bathrooms are atrocious. THIS PLACE SUCKS. I could walk to this grocery store in 10 minutes and drive there in 5 but I avoid it like the plague! And I sulk in self loathing whenever I have to go in. Also this star market opens at 6. That's really convenient when you have to go to work early right? WRONG. The opening cashier will wander around the store while the customers are trying to beat the clock. One time I was so close to just walking out with my groceries but decided against it for legal reason. Around 8 am once another cashier come the clueless manager decides to put the slowest cashier in the express lane. WHATS GOING ON HERE??? Imbeciles! They changed their management and remodeled parts of the store. They now have self-checkout, and they hired a handful of cashiers. The last three experiences I have had are positive. This review is for the Starbucks inside this star market, not to the grocery store itself. I was so so so disappointed with the Starbucks here. .. I needed a quick caffeine boost before going school so what better place than Starbucks? WRONG. I ordered a white mocha with soy milk-- this is considered a special drink so they charge you more than a normal tea or coffee. I see them make my drink and the first mistake I see is that they put normal milk instead of soy milk. I brush it off because I'm in a rush and I don't really mind. So I take my coffee and leave. I finally take a sip as I'm driving away and they literally only gave me milk with coffee..... their regular coffee. No syrups or anything. They basically overcharged me for something I could have picked up anywhere! I will never be going back to this starbucks! read more

I'm definitely a fan of this grocery store. I am typically a Whole Foods junkie with supplemental shopping at Trader Joe's and/or Market Basket (when I lived on the North Shore). The staff is super friendly and I end up having a conversation at the register every single time I go. Produce is good, organic and natural selection is solid. I feel like the place is clean and they have just about everything I need. Not always super easy to find what I'm looking for but eventually I find it which is all that matters. It's also a super bonus to have a Starbucks inside even though you don't get a very authentic Starbucks experience - If I need my fix, it's there. read more

They hired new baggers!!! And they know how to bag groceries efficiently ! Some of the staff still need to work on their customer service skills, or maybe I'm thinking of normal social skills (smile, say hello)...but in any case, this is a huge improvement! I work across the street and sometimes necessity forces me to shop here. The lines are almost always absurdly long due having only two or three cashiers and management's reluctance to open an express line. On a regular basis, I see customers abandoning their basket and leaving the store upon realizing there's no express line. It's unfair to be stuck behind a dozen people buying a week's worth of groceries when you only have a couple of items. The self checkouts were done away with ages ago as well. Hire more cashiers! UPDATE: Years later they *finally* brought back self checkouts! Two lines stretching well into the aisles are no longer an issue now, so hurrah! read more

I love that there is a Starbucks here, I would always grab a cup before shopping. I enjoy coming here to shop for my grocery, it's super clean and everything is always stocked. The line goes by quick too which is a plus. I feel like no one really comes here because everything is super neat and "untouched" looking. Maybe it's because of the time I visits but I really do enjoy shopping here it's so peaceful. This is honestly the most disorganized cluster-fuck of a grocery store that I've ever had the sheer misfortune of visiting. Every time- and I truly mean every single time- that I've come in, they are so embarrassingly overwhelmed by the 20 customers that are in the three total check out lines that the "express lane" feels more like a time share from hell. To add insult to injury, every time I find myself in the express lane (usually contemplating every life decision I've made that has brought me to this point because god knows I have the time to do so while waiting to check-out) a small army of store employees are standing around with a dumbfounded, "deer in the headlights" expression. It's almost as if they are purposefully staged to stand helplessly by the cashiers just as a sort of death blow to an already sub-par shopping experience. read more

I've been shopping here for years but it's really upsetting to be getting more and more surly cashiers. I've suffered my last one and I'm yelping about it. Lately it's been like this: I'll get a stare when my order's up and I'm standing across from the cashier, a mumble with the amount due, and then they hand me my receipt and say nothing....absolutley nothing! I mean, I'm not looking for a pot luck dinner invite or a new friends, but I'm also not looking to be struck by how rude a cashier is. I just want a quick and pleasant checkout experience. I never see managers observing the cashiers at night to see this. Please train your managers to train, observe, and give feedback to their workers. The younger cashiers may not know that they're coming off as rude and might just need a little coaching here and there. I feel bad for the older cashiers who are lovely. Train the frontline cashiers to say, "good afternoon, hi, or how are you" and "thanks, have a nice day, take care". God forbid a smile! This is a simple fix that will retain at least one loyal customer. The neighborhood choices are changing and your staff has to keep up to stay competitive. I placed an order Monday November 7th to be delivered from 6-10 pm. It never arrived. I was first lied to multiple times stating my order was picked up. Then was told overnight orders delayed get cancelled automatically after 10 pm. I was given false information repeatedly. The delivery agent called me up the next day at 8 am While I was at work. Not within my time slot, asking if he could deliver the order I said no as I wasn't home and I had already placed a NEW one before to arrive order for Tuesday, November 8 which said it is not arriving due to high volume of delivery. After wasting time with multiple chat representatives, my order was not prioritised despite being a day late. It came the next day ie Wednesday November 11. I waited three days for my order. I have already put in a request for refund for the first order that never showed up, I only received a $20 refund. I expect a whole refund for the initial order that never showed up. I expect the tip and delivery to be refunded on the new order as well for this outrageous service and treatment of a loyal star customer. I am a lawyer and I plan to file a case under consumer protection law if I don't receive a full refund for the first order and a refund for the second order's delivery tip and service fee. You have lost a loyal star customer. You can check the records too. This is the last time I will be ordering with star. read more

I go to this Star Market because its across the street and has a pharmacy and a Starbucks. It has the basics, but Lordy---the staff don't seem to know what to do. Lines, lines, lines are everywhere and every time. 7 AM--Lines. 12 noon--Lines. 7 PM--Lines. Despite all the employees around, only 3 lone stations are open at anytime...and there's several cashier stations with no one manning them. I've asked employees where things are located to be met with blank stares every.single.time...Gee, I only wanted flaxseed oil. To make matters worse, everything is priced at least a dollar more than other Star Markets? So many things I don't understand.... read more

TURN BACK NOW! Go here for: A produce selection that leaves MUCH to be desired and half the time isn't even stocked. Fish that looks 5 days old served by employees who don't give a shit. Meat that is literally rotten - yes rotten. I have purchased chicken from here many times and have come home to find it STINKS! and more recently its riddled with white striping (poor quality meat). It's half rotten, or swimming in a pool of it's own juices. Makes you want to go vegetarian - but you cant! because the produce SUCKS! Aisles that will leave you cramped and confused. Pallets of crap where people need to walk, giant displays of soda and seltzer water that go on for miles. Top that all off with the fact that you will have to speed bag your own groceries being thrown at you by some high schooler who is texting and talking about how much they hate their job the entire time they are "working" and it makes for one hellish trip to the grocery store. There's 3 specific ones that if they see you with a good amount of groceries they will take off and not bag your stuff. And go to the next open cashier. This is the most mismanaged Market in Boston. It's dirty. It's infested with Fly's in the Summer Time, particularly in the Fish Market. The Chicken they sell is usually bad the day you buy it. I was sitting down testing my Blood Pressure next to the Pharmacy when out ran a Mouse. Oh, and the Baggers...The absolute worse! I don't know how many times I got Home and noticed I was missing some Grocery's. They start sliding the Grocery's of the next person in line before yours is even bagged. I can go on all day about this place but I have better things to do. I would give it a minus five stars if I could. I would suggest the Big "Y" in Quincy as an alternative.
