I visited this Stop&Shop recently and was not impressed with this particular location. It was not very clean, well stocked, or organized. It was considerably smaller than many of the other locations I have been too. Extremely small parking lot too. Sure, it's Boston but the location just a few minutes away in the South Bay Center has a huge, giant lot rather than the one row available here. Inside is nice, it's a remodeled store. The problem is that they shouldn't have stacks of boxes littered throughout various aisles, or throughout the Nature's Promise section of the store. All of this work should be done late in the night, or after hours. Not at 10am on a Sunday when they need cashiers and are super busy. Kevin, the manager was very friendly but didn't seem interested in fixing many problems in this particular store including scanners that were not up to code with signage or broken clocks in the store. The giant pothole in the parking lot next to a sewer also needs to be repaired as soon as possible. This location was also just sort of run down. It needs to be more well maintained and have aisles that are more well stocked. Many expired items throughout the shelves and many empty shelves as well. Okay, but nothing better than that. Aesthetically, it's nicer and larger than other city stores around but still needs work. 3 stars. Okay. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This was one of the worse experiences I've ever had and I always go to stop and shop. I went to the store to get 5 items at 9:40. I understood they were closing at 10:00 pm so I was making it as fast as possible. I asked for assistance trying to find the items and the employees pretended to not know where they were. They refused to help me. I asked the manager to help because at this point, they were stating the store was closing in 3 minutes. The manager said "I cannot help you, get out" and then proceeded to tell the employee to "lock him in, I don't care." He did not care at all and just wanted to leave but if I received the proper help, I would've been able to leave as soon as possible. I do not recommend anyone go to this store, in fact, this store needs to be shut down. This isn't the first time this manager acted this way towards a customer. read more

This stop and shop has consistently out of date expired items. The produce department is also lacking fresh vegetables. Today I went in and there was no organic broccoli so I went for the regular broccoli which was all going bad. They were stocking while I was there I went to the box of broccoli crowns they were going to stock and they were also all going bad. They have had no red onions available for a few days. I tried to get organic avocados and most of the bags had bad avocados. The produce department seems to be having issues either with management or very unreliable vendors. I try and avoid this store whenever possible. A few days ago I purchased a bag of sweet potatoes because they were out of single sweet potatoes and 3 of the potatoes were mold. Large format supermarket in a busy shopping center, this Stop & Shop has a reasonable produce section and plenty of dry goods, groceries and personal care items. Quite busy on a weekday evening, but there were only very short lines at the registers. Merchandise was in good condition and the store was tidy. Still, there are WAY better supermarkets in the US like Kroger and Publix and Harris-Teeter where I live that are brighter, cleaner and have a much nicer shopping experience. read more

This store and Amazon Fresh consistently failing to stock basic items has pushed me into a subscription delivery service. It's just unbelievable. Last time I was in there, I couldn't even find a red bell pepper. Just a normal one by itself. Not a chance. There were zero green onions as well. It's just gotten worse lately. At least there's Lambert's. I don't think I can buy produce from this place anymore. The other problem is one I've run into every grocery store in Mass for some reason. Not a single one can seem to keep ice cream from getting a ton of ice crystals. It's like a 50/50 chance of buying inedible ice cream. Better for my health, I guess. In the end, they seem to be following the trend I've seen since around Covid. Everything worse for higher prices. Businesses don't really try to sell a good service or run a good store anymore. They just keep jacking things up and failing to stock shelves because it's more profitable that way, I guess. It's so tiring. read more

Just a regular supermarket. Now have to pay 5cent for paper bags. Typical supermarket staff talking to the person bagging your groceries vs saying hi or hello to the customer. The DD charges extra for styrofoam cups and you cannot use a DD gift card there either . Strange but true. Back to the paper bags, cheapest things around have had more than one tip, but it's for the environment. I'd buy that if the deli used paper, the produce you can put in a plastic bag, the cereal is in a plastic bag , nearly every single product is wrapped in plastic. Until you check out .. then it's mando paper or nothing . It's for the planet. It's not, it's for profit. Show me a product not incased in plastic and I'll show you a look of shock. Recently got harassed after spending $50 on groceries by a staff member. Why might you ask? I shop at this store often because it is near my home and that is probably the only reason that I go here. This evening was the straw that broke the camels back. I will never shop here again and likely won't shop at any Stop and Shops anymore. (1) Almost every member of the staff at the Freeport Street store is rude so today wasn't out of the ordinary. (2) This evening the cashier didn't even look at me while she was ringnig up my order. (3) While I was waiting to finish paying I got to hear another cashie yelling "F*ck that little b*tch. I'll slap that little b*tch in the f*cking face." The person she was refering to was a customer who had gone through the register before me. (4) I should have left then, but I needed a book of stamps so I went to customer service. There are signs everywhere that there is not a separate line for lottery. Well the woman working behind the counter apparently doesn't obey that rule. She served a lottery customer who lined up 15 minutes after I had been standing there. 15 minutes to buy a book of stamps! I'm the bigger fool for waiting that long. This store has quite possibly the worst customer service and the staff is incredibly rude. Shaws will be getting all of my business from now on. read more

Maybe this location when through a renovation recently? But I'm surprised by the negative reviews. For the most part, this Shop and Stop is decent; it's a large store, brightly lit, ample choices, bakery section, prepared foods, olive bar, cheese selection and large aisles. I knocked off one star due to the lack of organic produce and limited in terms of other non-main stream products. Also the fact that they relegate "soy and alternative" foods to the very end of the store like some dim dark corner that people should not venture to. But I did go there and was pleasantly surprised to find coconut milk ice cream, tofutti cuties, and other organic, non dairy, and soy products. I was able to find most of the things that we needed in order to entertain this week so I felt that it was a successful shopping trip. Prices are lower than Whole Foods, maybe just a tad slightly higher than TJ's. One crappy thing that did happen is that I got some olives from the olive bar and the bagger just sort of through it in the bag and it leaked olive oil so that also knocked off a start there. I did bring my own bag and luckily it was a plastic-y material that I easily wiped off but seriously annoying. read more

I liked coming here when I was driving by, but it was so odd trying to get into the parking lot from Morrisey blvd. It was large and has everything you need, and it could get busy on weekends and before storms but it was never as bad as some other stores i've been to. Okay store. I shop there a lot. Unfortunately I have often found expired food, especially dairy products. Once even a moldy milk. There is often no baggers and every time I go, I find myself bagging up the groceries on my own, although most time cashiers are helpful. This place is so conveniently close to my boyfriends place that I frequent here often. In terms of some grocery stores being a "food desert", this one is not. It actually has an exceptional variety of food items that I have had a hard time finding in other stores. This variety is what pushes my rating to 3 stars, but that's where the rest fall flat. I don't understand the drivers/parking in that area. People will wait to get a spot right in the front, and block the entire flow of traffic. That whole area is tight to begin with, so one person waiting means that cars are lined out onto the street. Lots of road rage potential right there. Thankfully there is a bigger lot out back that you can go around to. Also, I find myself estimating a exorbitant amount of time to checkout. The registers are slow. Sometimes I get somebody who is nice/personable, sometimes I don't. read more

This is the easiest supermarket for me to get to from my house. It's not too shabby, and has OK prices. Some stuff you can def find less expensive elsewhere, but for convenience I just do a one stop shop. They have a weekly circular that you can find online -- really helpful for shopping the specials. It can get crazy crowded on the weekends, so I recommend going one night after work. It's not T accessible (unless maybe there is a bus that goes here, i have no idea... I dont use the bus). All in all, it's your typical grocery store. The produce and meats aren't shady - so I have no issues trusting anything they sell... unlike SOME grocery stores where you're warned about some of their merchandise. read more

This is my go to supermarket & it is average at best. The parking is average & can get a little hairy at night because it tends to be so dark in there. The selection is good & I have always found what I needed in the place. I tend to go right before they close & are about to restock but I do wish the place was cleaner & a little more organized. i wont say this is the best S&S around but I will say that its the most convienent for quick grab-n-go items. The layout is probably what I like most. With the "bargain aisle" right across from the express checkout line. Not sure if this is due to its location but, i've never had a problem finding certain 'ethnic' seasonings and spices, and I love that those spices arent just confined to the "world aisle" like other stores .... It is usually crowded at peak times and the lines run long but the wait isn't tooooo bad. read more

There is nothing Super about this Stop and Shop. It is ghetto, picked over, poorly layed out and inconsistant. They apparently brought in some new young manager to revamp it. Good Luck. It will always be a dump, no matter what aisle you move the juices to. Half of the self-checkout's don't work properly and if you find a product there once, don't think it will be there if you return to buy it again. I think the company uses this store for a lot of their overstock, just my observation. Call it a Stop and Shop in Dorchester, but please don't call it Super. read more

This place is absolutely horrendous! I recently moved to the area and I thought it was nice that there was a reliable Stop & Shop nearby... wrong!! I bought some tilapia steaks that were rotting and on another occasion, I bought some packaged beef steaks that were green on the backside! I feel like a five star whore just giving away rave reviews. Stop & Shop on Morrissey Boulevard gets five stars just because it's there and it's not a ghetto market with two week old produce protected from examination by industrial strength plastic or security guards stationed prominently at the door with accusing eyes. Stopped there yesterday to pickup some three star bagels because I couldn't find parking in town near Finagle. They could rename their bagels cream cheese substrates and it probably wouldn't affect the sales volume. Everyone knows the Stop & Shop bakery puts a low priority on excellence. Oh well. Add a star for consistency. Yogurt was on sale for half a buck a container, the individual size. I'm feeling generous, add a star for that. I noticed a prior review complaining about the parking lot. I almost always find parking here to be a breeze. The size of this store is actually a plus. You can find just about anything you need here but the size is not overwhelming. In some supermarkets, I have to run to get from one end to the other without spending way more time than I want to. Not here, I just power walk. The produce section is ok, there's a Dunkin Donuts right inside the door, this store is convenient so let my love shine. Oh, oh, oh... I can't add any more stars, I'm already up to five but I'd like to thank the guy near the bakery who offered to get me a cart or a basket. Like an idiot I decided to run through the store without grabbing a basket because I only figured I'd be getting a packet of generic cream cheese and a few substrates but then I saw the yogurt on sale, remembered it was time to stock up on toothpaste, thought it might be a good idea to get some more half and half for my coffee... by the time I got over to the substrates I was having trouble managing everything. So I wanna start off this review with I made a yelp account to review about how bad this store. Management team here is horrible and staffing is okay. I've had several issues with ideas I've purchased here and called up there about returning them, I spoke with a lady in customer service that didn't speak good English at all. I asked to speak to the manager and the guy that answer was very rude I believe his name was "Kevin", he was speaking to me like I was 12 years old, than he hung up with me because I told him to learn how to speak to me do to him being very disrespectful and rude. I than called back 2 more times and he had hung up with me when he answered the phone. I than cane up there and asked to speak with him. I was showing him my receipt and he snatched it out of my hand with attitude and was still speaking like I was 12 years old. I've been coming into this store like 15 years now and never in my life have ever seen or dealt with someone this disrespectful in my life. I've learn I can drive 5 more minutes over the bridge to go to Quincy stop and shop where they treat their customer like family. I've spoken with 10 different worker at this stop and shop and they've all said he is rude and disrespectful and he treats to all customer and employees with disrespect. I WILL NOT COME BACK TO THIS STOP AND SHOP AGAIN IN MY LIFE AS LONG AS HE IS "store manager" All my family and friends will not be coming here again either. I have lived in Dorchester for a few years, but in the Boston area all of my life, and actually worked in a few supermarkets over the years. The thing that makes me want to write this review is how awful the employees of this store are. Specifically the front end (check out). There have been times when the cashier will not say hello, look at or speak to a customer until its time to pay, and all you get is a dollar amount. No thank you, no come again. So, I dont. This is my local Stop and Shop, and as much as I try to support it, I'm disappointed every. single. time. I. visit. I do most of my shopping at the Quincy store because the prices are lower, there's more of a variety, and I can usually find what I'm looking for. This Freeport Street store runs out of whatever is on sale that week. Just this morning I went in and there was no yogurt and no filtered milk...the shelves were just bare, and the dairy people had no idea when they would get yogurt or milk. There are more vendors working in the store than actual Stop and Shop employees, so it takes a while to find someone to help. Other stores seem to have higher standards than this one, which is a disservice to the community. I hope management does better. read more

I want to like this store more since I come here all the time but it is so hit or miss for freshness & selection of produce and I can not figure out the algorithm for when it will be well stocked. It is a decent sized store with a good variety of items and the prices are comparable to other grocery stores in the area. The staff aren't the friendliest of people but this is Boston and it's not a hippie dippie chain like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods where employees all drink the corporate kool aid and want everyone to have an organic shopping experience so I find their indifference acceptable. I stopped here on my way home really saw and felt the low quality compare to my regular one close to my home the staff wasn't too customer friendly either, I ask about a product location since I wasn't familiar with the store layout ( yes they place items in different aisle) and employee wasn't too happy I was bothering her. Only reason I go here is because it's close to my house. I try to stretch out my visits longer each time, shopping at other places when I'm out of the city. Every single person who works in this store is rude. Maybe 3 times out of the 20 times I've been to it I've actually had a cashier look at me and say hello. Just today when I was there I stood there patiently while the the cashier and the bagger had a conversation about how much they hate their job and what they were going to wear on Halloween. The cashier didn't even look at me once!!! I've got to find a different grocery store. Maybe Shaws wants my business. read more

Because I don't drive, I have to shop at this store. If I could, I would shop elsewhere. The Shaw's near the Boston Globe is a much better store. This store is less than 10 years old. It replaced an older one that was horrendous. Since the new store opened, the only consistent thing about it is that they keep cutting things. Originally, it had a seafood department - gone. The greeting card section - reduced to 2 small racks. They had a pharmacy - gone. There were at least a dozen products that I bought regularly that are no longer sold. TGI Fridays Frozen Dinners - gone. Starbucks Double Shot Espresso Drinks - gone. Terra Potato Chips - gone. Prince Spaghetti products - gone. Tostitos Hint of Jalapeno Scoops - gone. I've asked about numerous products that have disappeared and nothing is ever done. I've asked about this and nothing is ever done. Cutting products is bad enough, but they also do a poor job of stocking. They're very bad at this. Many shelves are often bare and they restock popular products slowly at best. The store is being renovated now - something they wouldn't have to do if they'd only perform regular maintenance. With the renovation has come a new layout, which seems arbitrary. They've moved everything around so regular customers can't find anything. They've even made some aisles narrower! I mentioned this to a manager and was told this was not the case. I had to walk her over to the aisle and show her. They're so narrow, 2 carts can barely fit side by side. She acknowledged this and claimed she was unaware of it. Recently, they instituted a policy that requires stickers on anything you carry out that isn't in a bag. To me, this says you don't trust your customers. It may be a corporate policy, but it was never enforced at this store until the last few weeks. I found this out because an employee asked where my stickers were. I went back a few days later to buy more groceries. The cashier didn't put any stickers on the bottled water I was buying. When I asked why, I was told they didn't have any stickers!! I know it's tough to find halfway intelligent people for the money they pay, but this store must be unable to find anyone with a brain. The last time I went in, I saw 4 or 5 employees just standing around in a group shooting the breeze. Nobody cares what customers want or think. People at the store often show no common courtesy and never think of putting the customer first. I've purchased items from the store in the past that were spoiled, opened, thawed and refrozen. I got a package of ice cream bars that were all distorted when I opened them. They must have been left out too long and began to melt and were then put in the freezer, to refreeze. I got a pie from the bakery once that had mold on the bottom. I once asked a deli employee why they stopped carrying a particular brand of sandwich wraps - they were usually right in front of the deli counter and had not been stocked for weeks. The person didn't know what I was talking about and had no clue how things were ordered. I spoke with the deli manager and he didn't know why they weren't stocked either, but promised to get them in a couple of days. It took at least a week. At the service counter, they had a sign listing lottery jackpots. This was taken down and I asked about it for months. I was given 3 different explanations as to why it wasn't put back up. I spoke to 3 different managers about it. I finally sent in a complaint via the corporate web site and the sign finally appeared a few days later. Their seafood is horrible. Nothing is fresh. They originally had a number of prepared seafood dishes, but stopped carrying them. They had real sushi years ago. Now, they have this alternative with low quality ingredients that is barely palatable. Stop & Shop corporate and the management of this store are doing a disservice to the community. My guess is they only care about customers insofar as they impact their bottom line. This store has serious problems that are easily solved. For some reason, the corporate folk and the store management are unable to properly respond to customer needs. I've lived near this store for over 20 years, so I know what I'm talking about - unlike some of the people who have posted reviews, who seem to be one time shoppers or don't shop regularly at the store. I saw one review from someone who lives in Rhodes Island! I suppose they have a right to voice their opinion, but the problems this store faces are most important to regular customers and they need to be addressed soon. read more
