There are some extremely good buys and some so-so good buys. You have to know your prices. The owners and staff are always welcoming and friendly. I've chatted with pretty much everyone while Im in the store. TIP 1:The items will not always be in stock. Items come and go and never come back, so if you see something you like, just get it, as it may not be there on your next visit. TIP 2: While Grocery Outlet stores and similar types of stores have an unfair reputation for selling close to expiring items, this is always true. Sure, you can check the dates, but you're not going to find any expired or frozen just before their best-by date. TIP 3: If you are vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free, you'll find some of your favorite things at a steal of a price. I've found vegan cheese, vegan salad dressings, and Beyond products at a 75% discount compared to the big guys. We're thankful to have the Grocery Outlet in our neighborhood and appreciate the team for making it all happen.

We moved from another state into Star about a year ago. There were no WinCos where we previously…read morelived. In Star, there is a Ridley's and an Albertsons. Albertsons is more convenient. Eventually, one of our new friends mentioned WinCo. So, we started going there. As in the other reviews, the first thing I found out was that it's either cash or debit card, no credit. Not a problem as I carry my debit card in my wallet, and have no added it to my Apple Wallet. Also, even if you go through the full checkout line, you have to bag your own groceries. This is no problem at all for us because, for the most part, we go through self-checkout lines whenever we can. Prices are the best compared to Albertsons (we don't grocery shop at Wal-Mart or Target). We do shop at Costco for some bulk items and toiletries, but the nice thing about WinCo is that you don't have to buy in bulk. WinCo does seem to have good produce, and I love the selection of whole coffee beans, since I do like to grind my own. I also buy bulk instant Gluten free oats to make oatmeal. We try to buy as many of our groceries as we can at WinCo, but since it's a 15-20 minute drive from Star, if we're feeling lazy, we just go to Albertsons. We retired so we have the time. I'm happy to have this nice WinCo so close to home.

The prices are very reasonable, even though I've noticed inflation in recent months... especially since I frequent it almost every other day! Sometimes their prices are lower than Costco, sometimes they're higher... I love how there's so much variety in their bulk bins and how it's always kept so clean! The self serving bag-it-yourself brings me back to my childhood days of bagging everything. Very nostalgic. My daughter loves bagging groceries for me, so win right there when I'm not in the mood for bag. I never tried it, but my kids told me they really like the hot foods and the cheap prices. Boise Bodega is right next to my hotel which was the Sparrow, and the Sparrow Hotel was immaculate…read more like weirdly clean. so that already set the tone for the day. walked into the bodega and immediately noticed everything was laid out very intentionally. not in a fancy way, just in a way that made sense. cheaper stuff first, then normal priced stuff, then the more expensive stuff. i liked that because it let me mentally commit to how much money i was about to spend before i actually spent it. felt respectful. the guy running the place had immaculate vibes. calm. friendly. not doing too much. he was wearing a UCLA sweatshirt which caught my eye because i've got family members who go there. i asked him if he went to UCLA. he said no, but he's reppin it for me. that made me laugh and honestly set the mood for the rest of the visit. whole place felt super chill. no rush. no weird energy. just a solid neighborhood spot that knows exactly what it is. grabbed what i needed and left in a better mood than when i walked in, which is not something i can say about most convenience stores. liked it enough that when i got back home i actually told people about this place, which i almost never do. usually i forget places the second i leave them. would go back. good store. good guy. good system.
