I know time is money in this industry. But so is service!! I made an appointment for a pedicure and when I arrived, there were many people waiting as walk ins. I was taken back fairly quickly and soaked for 15 minutes. The total time that was spent on my French gel pedicure was 30 minutes... One of the nails she clipped was still attached and polished.....I am the type of person that tips well for great service. This was not that. I guess she thought it was a better idea to rush through my service so she could get to the walk ins...Hope my less than 10% was worth the rush. read more

Great experience, super nice people, I've gone about 10 times since starting at MSU and won't go anywhere else. I've never had a set turn out bad (I get acrylics and fills) and their prices are much better than other places. The only thing they could change is talking so much in another language around you to other coworkers and they sometimes get a little irritable if you want anything changed. First of all, the salon itself looks very beautiful. They have a classic white theme with floral and accents. They give great pedicures! Would highly recommend. I have to say the first time I came here, I was a little bit nervous because the woman kept wiping my nails and trying over again for a while, so I was a little concerned. She kept telling me to put my fingers down as well, which was nerve racking. But overall great service! My nails turned out amazing (the blue and red "Harley Quinn" themed nails below)!!! Just shows they really put in the effort to make your nails look amazing! They attend to you pretty quickly and it seems to go by very fast. So far my nails have turned out great! Got dip and honestly the service was not good. First of all the lady was insisting I needed dip when all I wanted was a gel manicure. EXTREMELY rough and the lady used a broken bottle of nail polish on me which got glass on my nail which she had to wipe off. Also charged me 5 dollars extra because of the shape of my nails, not even to change the shape, just to file. Honestly save you're money and go somewhere else. read more

I got a fill here on a full set I had done elsewhere, and the original set was pretty thick and bulky and my nail tech thinned them down and shaped them perfectly without me even having to mention it! Not great. I've been consistently getting dip done here for a little while. Techs are always incredibly aggressive when taking off the powder. My nails are starting to bruise and it literally hurts when they're removing it. They never care even when I ask for them to be gentle (after visibly wincing under their rushed work) or take a quick break. They also up charge for EVERYTHING and get mad when you don't pay cash. I need to find somewhere else to go. read more

After getting a pedicure here i thought everything was okay my nails looked good but then when I woke up in the morning I was in so much pain I wanted to go to the hospital from the ingrown mail they caused on my toe from incorrectly trimming my nail on the side only half way causing the remainder to have a sharp corner and push into the side of my toe. I went here all the time as it was close to me and convenient, but I won't be going back. Any time I got acrylic nails done here, the whole nail would just come right off... that has never happened, and I have done my nails for years now. Multiple times they would just come off entirely, and I gave this place multiple chances. One of the girls told me it was because "I needed a new set every 2-3 times I did my nails" and that "I'm getting what I paid for"... the salon I go to now said that's ridiculous. I have gotten fills multiple times at the new nail salon and the nails are fine. I sometimes go 3 weeks and don't have my nails come off entirely like they did at Star Nails (as if they were press on nails or something). I gave the place 3 stars because for the most part, they are all kind people and are talented but I just feel the quality is VERY questionable. During my time at MSU I went to this salon because my friend recommended. It was a mediocre hit or miss nail salon. After randomly deciding to get a pedicure I noticed a growth on my big toe and the nail was starting to rub into my skin. I ended up having to see a podiatrist and spending over $400 to have the growth removed and to fix the ingrown nail they caused. Never again will I go back or get a pedicure. read more

Do not go here!! If I could give 0 stars I would. I am a person who gets my nails done constantly so I know what is right and wrong. They left acetone on my nails for 1 HOUR!! The next day 2 of my nails completely ripped off and not even a week later the rest of my nails are just falling off because they're so brittle from them leaving the acetone on for so long. So, I'm not the type to go out and get "my nails done" but there was a special occasion that I wanted to really go all out for. So, I decided to get a full set and not just a little manicure. When you first walk in, you are totally bombarded by a couple ladies asking you what you want. You state what you want and they immediately find someone that is readily available. I've come here several times until I found one Nail Technician that is incredible. The other nail techs weren't as firm when they hold you hand or they don't really get all the "bad" things out and just let you walk out there thinking you had the best nail set ever. The Nail Tech that I recommend, her name is Jennifer. She gives off the shy vibe but is fluent in English and is kind to talk to. It was easy for me to start a conversation with her and not feeling as if she was talking to others in a different language about me (how many of you have had that feeling? LOL) She was very particular in her work and took her time to really give you the best product in the end. For my full set, I've noticed many places will "drill" into the bed of your nail and once the acrylic grows out, there would be a "bump". I absolutely despise that because they would ruin my real nails. Jennifer does not do this at all. How great is that and your nails turned out GREAT...not just good but GREAT. When I make an appointment, I only ask for Jennifer. Yes, this isn't fair for the other Nail Techs in there, but if they took their time and knew how to really do your nail set, then I would request someone else. The best thing about this nail shop is that it is located in the same strip as a Sushi Restaurant so that gives you good motive to make a girls night out to get your nails done and drink some Sake! read more

Jennifer does an amazing job! She is an all-around honest, humble, sweet and caring person! She takes her time, listens to you, and actually enjoys what she does. It's true that she seems shy but that just makes her who she is. You are guaranteed to love her. However, I am writing this review to inform everyone that Jennifer does NOT work at Star Nails anymore. She has moved to Kiss Nail, which is located on grand river. It is right down the street from Star Nails. If you want to be guaranteed an amazing job on your nails, go see Jennifer at Kiss Nails from now on! I went here about a month ago and got my nails done with a full set of acrylics with gel. I got them filled 2 weeks ago. This is not the first time I've gotten my nails done with acrylics, but it is the first time I've gone there. Today I decided to take off the nails, and saw this: Green under 3 of my nails (the third is on the other hand). I thought it could've been a bruise, but I looked it up and no. It's Pseudomonas. I've attached a picture of the nails, and also a description of what pseudomonas is. I will never go here again and I hesitate to ever get my nails done again. The only explanation for me getting this is them not cleaning their tools or their own hands well enough before putting the product on, because I've gotten my nails done many times before and this has never happened read more

Do not go here..the woman who had done my nails was taking my gel polish off and took part of my nail with it. I pulled my hand away because of the pain and the woman aggressively grabbed it back, and began doing the same thing again. I also was asked if I want my nails cut and I said "just a little please". The woman proceeded to cut all my nails down to nubs, and did not shape them. I could tell she was in a rush and she got polish all over the sides of my nails, which I later picked off. I have gotten my nails done at many different places and NEVER have I been in PAIN during a manicure. I've never had my skin ripped off from a nail file. I squealed in pain and he blamed it on my moving. Four of my fingers bled. There is never any reason for them to bleed. He was in such a rush he did not care at all, not even about the shape of the nails. My middle finger nail is lopsided and I asked him to reshape and he said he wasn't done, but he didn't fix the nail. Terrible experience, will not be returning. Also, when my fingers were bleeding he cleaned the cuts with nail protector and a dirty used paper towel?? I had to ask for rubbing alcohol to clean all my open cuts. read more

I've been to this salon a few times, and always thought the prices were decent. Called to make an appointment for 11:30 for 2 pedicures. Was told noon would be better, so I rearranged my day and scheduled for noon. We did not get seated until 12:30. Water was too hot for my daughter, she kept telling them this and they tried to bully her into just putting her feet in the water until I said, "Look, she said the water is too hot. Could you add some cold water so she can be comfortable?" Constantly tried to sell us additional services, upgrade to "deluxe" pedicure, add a manicure, "Do you want a flower"? This very much detracted from the enjoyment of this very rare indulgence. Did almost nothing about the calluses on my feet. I've had pedicures with them before, and left the salon with smooth heels and no callus on the ball of my foot. The tech just kept telling me, "You should get a deluxe pedicure for your calluses." Should be (and has been) part of a regular pedicure. We won't be back. read more
