I'll start Of by saying they do good work .... but.... I was there on a Wednesday for the very first time. Olivia fixed a bad acrylic overlay from another place and changed my gel color. I heard her tell another client not to pick the color that she did because it has a tendency to change colors. I didn't think anything of it at the time and I picked an OPI color which has always been good for me. 2 days later my pink started tuning orange. I went back Monday but they were closed. So I returned today and they wanted to just file the four fingers that had changed colors and redo those. I told them no because the other ones were faded and it wasn't going to match plus why would I want the same color on there that just turned color. They agreed to do a color change for me and actually had the audacity to charge me $10. I paid $30 6 days ago for color that supposed to last weeks. I should not have had to pay again. But I did and I will not be back. read more

These ladies rip you off. They charge more for added treatments and then add on $10 or $20 and hope you don't notice. Then when you question it they make up prices. And they charge 3% to use credit card. Beware! They will rip you off!! And then when I tried to question the price and have them break it down for me they pretend to not speak any English. I haven't been to a nail salon in years and wanted a manicure badly. Went to this place with my guy friend. For him we just wanted his cuticles cleaned up etc -no polish. For me I got a gel manicure. Now forgive me if I'm not up to date on how nail salons work anymore. I was happy with my nails but feel kind of ripped off. It is also my fault because I should have asked the price ahead of time but I was thinking for things so simple it would be probably $30/person. The owner/boss lady wasn't the friendliest. I walked in right when they opened and didn't have an appointment and asked if she could do manicures for us. She said do you have an appointment ? I said Noo she said you need an appointment but that's fine give me 10 min. It was nice she was able to take us in (even tho the wall says walk-ins welcome) The worker ladies were very nice. The girl doing my nails was very nice too she accidentally cut my skin but was apologetic and I was totally fine. She was struggling doing my French tip so she called the boss lady over and the boss lady started doing it. It went from relaxing to my fingers being yanked around like I did something to upset her. The nice working lady came back and finished up my nails. Back in the day when I use to get manicures I would receive a little lotion massage on my hands I guess you can call it but I didn't get that they just put some oil on them which was different for me but not a big deal. My friend was paying so when I asked how much to go get the money from him she said oh it's 35 + 25 so it's 70. I figured maybe she did her math wrong since 35+ 25 is 60$ so then I thought maybe she's charging me 10$ for French tip (I know times have changed but for French tip it use to be between $3-$5 more) When I come back to give her the payment she says I made a mistake , plus 10$ tip it's 80. So I reiterated it back to her and said oh okay , $80 includes tip? She said Noo it doesn't include tip. I tipped the workers on top of it and paid her the 80$ but I felt totally ripped off. It just didn't make sense to me because even if she charged me 45$ for my French tip gel manicure and $25 for my guy friend who didn't get anything special done or even polish why was the total $80 . I should have asked the price in the beginning which is my fault but I feel pretty scammed out of my money since the price kept changing. I felt pretty bad about the price that I went online to there website to see if I got ripped off and there are no prices on there website !! Even tho my nails are nice and the workers were nice. My daughter had been to this salon and told me she liked their work, we walked in and ddnt have an appointment but they sat me in spa chair for pedi and my daughter was waiting to get gel nails, the young lady took my polish off and started cutting my toe nails, all of a sudden i felt such a sharp pain that made me jump, my DDC daughter who was sitting in a chair by me waiting to get her nails done asked what happened and i told her she must hav cut too deep, There is skin bonded to my toe nail and she just cut it! I had tears and the lady looked at me and said what happened? Did u get hurt and i told her how she must have cut my toe too deep, she said no i ddnt and then she pushed on under my toe nail and i jumped again w pain and she was like what look its ok! She then started talking in her language to another lady who came up and examined my toe nail, the piece that she cut could be see and the lady was like ok wait someone else will di ur tie and this lady walked away!! I was shocked how the original lady just handed me off and after abt 5-10 min i asked the lady in charge how long it be she said u walked in and ddnt have appointment so u need to wait till the other ladies are done! I looked and both ladies wer cleaning cuticles so guessing it would be another 20-30 min. I and my daughter decided to leave and she said ok and we walked out! It was my first time visiting this salon to get a gel/fill mani on my real nails. My cousin has been here 2 times. They are a rip off when it comes to pricing. My cousin came with me and got a full set and was charged $65 and I myself getting a fill was charged $65 as well. How does this make any sense? Or to anyone to be exact. When I confronted her she said that because she shaped my nails, I was charged extra. When getting a fill anywhere, they HAVE to shape your nail. I've never heard anything like this before and I am very disappointed. Its not about the money, its the simple fact that they think they're speaking to someone that has never had these services before. First time i went i left my beat headphones by accident and they were returned to me upon my revisit 3 weeks later in perfect condition. My nails were perfect. I picked this place based on the reviews, but ended up disappointed. It's a very cute and clean nail salon. Everyone was really nice. I made two appointments for a Friday morning at 10am. We got there and were seen right away. And for what it's worth, it was not busy while we were there (just over an hour). I got an acrylic fill-in with gel polish and a design on each ring finger. The lady (whose name I failed to get) was very thorough and took her time. My nails turned out nicely. However, I did get cut a few times (the biggest one on my right pinky) and the area around my cuticles ended up very dry after a couple days. I liked the gold two stripe design on each ring finger, but the one on the left hand was crooked...and it started lifting/peeling the next morning so I had to take it off. The one on the right hand is starting to lift also (after three days). This all cost $55. My sister got a gel manicure, which cost $35. No complaints yet. Overall, it's a nice place with nice people. But for $100 (after tip), I would prefer not to get cut and that the designs last more than a few days. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

I got a gel builder full set from Olivia and I loved it! I am VERY picky about my nails, I let Olivia know that I like them to be as thin as possible and as natural looking as possible. I went with a French manicure with soft white tips. Not Covid compliant. I've been coming here for a long time and love how this place is so clean, organized and actually relaxing with no TVs and clutter. Owner seemed to care about service and making sure her employees do a good job. If a new employee didn't do well, she made sure someone else took care of you. It's been my favorite salon until she allowed a grandmother, mother and her boy to walk in without masks. They all sat and got serviced with no effort on the owner's part to ask them to wear masks. When I asked the owner to have them put on their mask, she mumbled they are vaccinated- against her own policy posted on the walls. But what happened after that is still with me. The lady who wasn't wearing the mask yelled across the room that she wasn't going to wear one and that if I don't like it I should leave. I'm not proud of my reaction but for the next 10 minutes, until I was able to pay and leave, I basically got into an altercation with this women. What is astounding to me is that the owner did not do the right thing, which is to have her customers put on masks. Instead, she kept bringing a box of masks to me and saying "see they are going to wear it". It was such bizarre behavior and so shortsighted on her part not to come to my defense and comply with LA county mask mandates which states that all businesses public and private are required to have both customers and team members wear masks. After I left, I was so angry, I contemplated calling the heath inspector. Very disappointed and will never go back. If you value your health, stay away because it's a tiny space with not much air circulation. read more

Finally! A salon that actually does what you request. I've been searching in LA a long time for a good nail salon. After coming from NY (the best nail Salons) to Orange County (where I can only recommend one good nail salon) I stopped getting my bails done for almost three years. I started again in December 2017. I went to salon after salon in both the valley and LA since December 2017. Finally in April of 2018, my friend reminded me to try Star nails on Riverside. Thank God for that word of advice. I called the day of my first time going at about 5pm. The guy answered, he was pleasant and spoke good English (no shade) and told me to come in. I arrived 15 mins later. I was acknowledged and treated nicely. Julie promptly began my nails. She listened to exactly what I needed and wanted. She delivered perfectly. I was truly happy with my nails. Y gave me a massage that was amazing (FYI it's not free-beware). I was tired. It was the end of the day and it was perfect. My ONLY concern is this place is pricey. It's an excellent salon. Very clean. They do great work. Just a bit steep on prices in posh Toluca lake. They also don't let you arrive through the rear of the shop if you park in back, where there's ample parking for all of the businesses on that block. So you have to walk around the block. Although my bill was hefty from just a fill with gel and a massage, I was happy with the work. That's what matters. I returned later that week for a Pedicure. I forget my pedicurists name, but I do know her face and she did an amazing job!!! Again, great work. I paid $23 for a pedicure. Almost average price. She (Julie) even repaired a nail I banged up and broke, for free as a courtesy later the following week. That's true service. I recommend Star Nails. They encourage you to take their brochure (which in my opinion doesn't accurately outline the prices), so you won't be sticker shocked at your bill. Still, the effort is there and I can appreciate that. Really good work. Everyone is friendly. They're not talking to each other in their native tongue making you feel uncomfortable. First time there. Deceptive about pricing. I booked an appt over the phone and asked for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. After I was done, they said it was $68!!! When a woman came in while I was in the chair and asked how much a gel manicure was they told her $35 ($25 for regular). When I asked them why mine was so much more expensive, they said oh well it's a $20 upcharge on spa mani/pedicure. I didn't ask for a spa pedicure or get one. I got massage and hot towels...part of any usual mani/pedicure where I've been AND the woman getting the REGULAR MANICURE right by me paying $25 was getting the same thing. SECONDLY....TWO HOURS LATER, I took my sandal off and it brushed my big toe and dented the pedicure, took a big chunk out! So how thick did they make these coats!?!? I've NEVER had that happen anywhere hours after I get the pedicure. Furthermore not even the salons in Beverly Hills upcharge $20 for gel on the hands. It's usually $10 for hands and $10 for feet. So they were basically saying it would be $40 extra if I'd gotten gel on both!?!? WTF!?!? So because I'm in a chair and not at a table my upcharge is $20. But someone getting THE SAME MANICURE without gel would have only been a $10 upcharge. They wouldn't change the price either. I still tipped each girl 20% because they did the work. I'll start by saying I haven't been to a nail salon in 3 years, so I know the technicians had some work to do. That being said... ouch. I asked for a gel acrylic manicure and a gel pedicure. It took almost 2 and 1/2 hours. The women working on my feet and hands were both very nice. However, I was cut several times around my cuticles on my fingers. My middle finger was so bad it bled the entire time I was getting my nails done. She was dabbing the blood away the entire session. She also messed up my thumb and had to keep sanding half the acrylic nail away and painting again and again. Half of the acrylic nail on my thumb is gone and is covered with a lot of thick gel polish to even if out. It looks ok but kind of weird. I think she should have replaced the acrylic nail since it was disappearing instead of cover the disappearance with gel polish. The woman working on my toes started painting very quickly when I realized it wasn't gel she was just doing a regular pedicure with nail polish. She was about halfway done when I realized so I didn't bother correcting her I just wanted to get out quickly. I do think both my fingers and toes turned out pretty but it was not worth the pain or price. My total for gel acrylic nails and a plain pedicure was $120. They state they take credit cards. I asked if I could tip and the woman at the counter said do you have cash? I said no. She said there's an atm at the back that only charges .75 cents. I said ok... as I'm walking to the back she yells get the whole things out... I've attached a picture of my nails. Peep the middle finger for a nice ring of blood that I still can't wash away. The morning after my finger still hurts and one of my toes is aching so I hope it's just my body getting used to having my nails done again and not any infections. Overall nice people and I do enjoy what my nails look like but I probably won't go here again. read more

I was meeting a friend for dinner and had some time to kill so I took the opportunity to get my nails done. I found this little shop on Riverside Dr. where there is a nail spot on almost every corner. It is such a lucky chance that I ended up at this beautiful salon where I received fabulous service. My manicure and pedicure were bone beautifully. The french manicure on my natural nails lasted for over a week! That's pretty impressive. The salon was so pretty, clean and spa-like, that I decided to get a bikini wax while I was here. Gina, who also did my nails, is a real pro. Brazilian wax was $50 and lasted for weeks. They're located on the charming and chilled out strip of Riverside Dr in Toluca Lake, a few doors down from "Paty's". Seriously if you live in Hwood, Burbank, NoHo, make the trip over the Star Nails as it's just nice to get away from all the noise and urban density. Star Nails is such a cute little space--everything is sparkling clean and brand new. The owner, Olivia, is also adorable. I have mad respect for any female business owners--having been through it myself. managing employee schedules, cleaning, marketing your business, having to re-order supplies all the time....it's a TON of work. Olivia is so friendly and confident and remembers your name. She gave me an ice cold, complimentary bottled water. All the employees wear rubber gloves and the tool kits are in those really sanitary hermetically-sealed packages. They all seem happy to be working there and I really enjoyed chatting with them. Star Nails specializes in this new thing (well, new to me, anyway) called "Gel Manicures". This new gel technology seals in the manicure so that it is INDESTRUCTIBLE. It's no joke! It works. There is not a single scratch or chip on my mani after 4 days--it will supposedly last 2-weeks. Worth every penny of the extra $20. If the manis last that long, you don't even have to go that often--so in the long run, you're saving money. They give a really great massage, too. :) And they are very careful with trimming cuticles. I've been to places that get too crazy with cutting them way down and they hurt or are even bleeding a little. Ouchy! I'm so glad I found Star Nails and I will be a loyal customer for sure. Quick Tip: Parking can be tough but there are a few tandem spots in the back. Appointment definitely recommended. Full Review: My roommate and I changed to this salon on a trial basis because our regular salon was failing us as of late. After rushed and sloppy manicures that only lasted a day or two before chipping, we had enough and decided to get in our car (our old place was walking distance) and find a better salon. Star Nails Spa was the answer. We had an appointment and arrived a few minutes early. There is parking in the back and across the alley from the back entrance too. If they didn't have parking, I probably wouldn't actually come back because parking in this area is a nightmare. But since they have spots out back, I love it. The girls were very friendly and the salon is peaceful. No TV and not a lot of unnecessary chatter from the techs or the customers. A nice change of pace. Relaxing! Not only was the atmosphere much nicer than my previous salon but this salon has: More color choices More brand choices Better massage chairs The techs are very thorough and precise. They don't skimp on anything just to save time. Both my roommate and I had detail oriented technicians who seemed to really care about the final product. My roommate was getting french tip gels done and the girl kept going back over previously painted nails to make sure the lines of the tip were perfectly straight. Her nails looked amazing afterward so I was definitely impressed. My tech made sure that my nails were filed perfectly straight (I always get square) which was so nice because most places I have gone, not just the regular place, end up leaving a weird wave or curve on the end of a nail or two. So annoying. My nails looked great afterward and the manicure lasted for a solid week before it started chipping and that was mostly my own fault because I do a lot bad things to my nails throughout the course of a day/week. I didn't get gels or anything. Just a nice, bright OPI red and it still lasted a week. Impressive for such a low price. Hands down the best mani/pedi I have had in a long, long time. The policy is no tip on debit or credit cards, so be sure to bring cash for tip or cash for the whole thing. There is also a $20 min. for debit/credit cards and a $1 fee for using such a card. No big deal really. At least I don't think so. I usually get a mani/pedi anyway so I always go over the $20 and adding an extra dollar to cover the processing fees doesn't bother me since it means I don't have to remember enough cash to cover that part. There is an ATM on site if you forget the rules. I felt good leaving a nice tip for my nail tech because she actually, truly deserved it. Tipping in salons sometimes becomes such a guilt trip that I do it because I feel like I have to. This time, I WANTED to tip her to show my appreciation. read more
