They did a great job, but I spent a little more than I thought I would. Like others have stated, pricing here is unclear/not really listed anywhere and can change from your seat to the register. I asked for a regular spa pedicure that was $30, but they charged me $35 because the person who was doing my pedi accidentally used the salt scrub (and proceeded with the rest of the higher priced pedi without saying anything to me... but I did notice her pause and have a conversation about it with the person doing my mani). Not too upset about $5 because I got what I paid for, but I didn't ask for it. Also did ombré for the first time and didn't know it was extra (again, would be nice to have prices listed, but now I know). In total, I paid $35 for the pedi, $40 for a gel mani, and $10 for ombré on my mani (plus tip). Other than that minor gripe, I'm really happy about my nails! My cuticles are clean, the color/work is excellent, and they had a solid color selection on their wall. Worst place I have ever been too! Ruined my nail bed and looks like blobs of gel on my nail. I came in with long natural nicely shaped nails I asked for a gel x fill. She told me over the phone the price was $55 and ended up charging me $65 after she not only cut my nails but made them uneven and completely damaged my nail bed when all I asked for was a fill. I was so taken back and at a loss for words looking at how horrible my nails looked I paid and walked out feeling taken advantage of: my fault for trusting this lady. Never coming here again! I accidentally booked an appointment here for my friend and I last week, thinking it was another salon. Instead of canceling, we decided to try them out. Here's how it went: My friend and I both got manicures and pedicures, my friend decided to get gels. Instead of asking us what kind of pedicure we wanted, they just gave us the more expensive version, which included the hot stone massage. I wouldn't have been so annoyed by this if they hadn't burned me with the stones, and then up charged me when I went to pay. I tried to tell them I never asked for this treatment but it didn't look like the cashier quite understood what I was trying to say. Rather than make a fuss I just paid it. I was also given a callus removal treatment, which I also didn't ask for. I just paid for it too, there were no descriptions of a "deluxe pedicure" vs a regular one. I let this go and just paid it because it was listed as an extra treatment, but one that I wasn't planning to have. My friend's gel nails chipped days after our appointment. My regular mani/pedi peeled (the pedi too) the next day after our appointment. The ladies were nice (hence the one star) but I would not go back here. I didn't appreciate having secret add ons to my service without permission and then when I tried to protest the employees looked like they had no idea what I was trying to say to them. The last two times I came in I had issues. I'm not giving them any more of my money. The last time I came in Amanda did my nails- this gel manicure came to $70 with tip. Once the final lay was done she filed the edges?! Like even by the cuticle causing them to be jagged and the raw nail exposed at the tip. Not at all the clean look you want with gel- but she did such a bad job she tried to "fix it in post" I guess Cut to two days later and three of my nails are falling off (which hasn't happened to me in years. gel sometimes lasts a month for me). I go BACK to have her fit it- she does a rushed job and it's super bumpy... and when it's done and I'm about to leave she goes "hold on" and literally takes a yellow highlighter... like a school work yellow highlighter... and rubs it on the edges of my three fixed nails. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why.... Until the next day when the pretty cocoa color I picked turned a disgusting green- SHE STRAIGHT UP SABOTAGED MY NAILS lollllll so After two trips and $80 (I tipped her for fixing them) I ended up with a terrible manicure that someone intentionally messed up- probably because she was mad she had to fix it. Found my nail spot. And if you're in the Toluca Lake area, look no further than Star. First off, the color variety is impressive. But then you actually get in the chair and the magic begins. I'm not going to show you the before but I can tell you right now, it wasn't good. I'm still gawking in amazement at the after. I pulled up a picture for inspiration, and Olivia did one better. Olivia, who did these, was seriously so kind, professional, and did an incredible job overall. No painful cuticle shaving. Very gentle. Perfected the nail shape. For a gel fill with nail art it was $75, which I believe is well worth it. As LA enters the yellow zone for COVID, the salon is still following protocol with separators and everyone was wearing their masks correctly. I truly regret my decision on going in today. Overbooked on the first day back working. 3-4 clients waiting who were inside & some were even sitting in their cars. There was no space for social distancing. My cuticle cut, full set of acrylics & gel polish took Olivia 30 minutes. WHICH IS FINE .. if it turns out nice. She rushed my service just so she can make it to other appointments. She didn't even clean the acrylic powder with alcohol or ask me to wash my hands before applying my polish.. weird. I paid $200 for mine & my moms services total. The sad part of all this is I work in a nail salon myself & I wanted to just go out and have a spa day with my mom. No I'm not a manicurist but I am aware that this work that was done on my hands is not okay. Again.. OVERBOOKED & VERY $200 PLUS $45 tip.. yes I still tipped after all this. read more

It's very simple- if you want clients to return, do not leave them waiting for 30 minutes every time they have an appointment, and be clear about pricing. My 3rd and last time here, I once again waited for the technician to show up (30 minutes late), had to ask her to fix her sloppy work (nails left uneven and scratchy) twice during each appointment, and was charged more money for the same service I received 3 weeks ago. Also, it's not a great look when you mention the tip before I pay. Tipping is at the customer's discretion. When you waste my time and money, the tip should be the least of your concerns. Whatever price you are quotes going in...never seems to be the price when you leave. They add on costs for taking off your gel manicure, lotion etc... Items that should be part of a normal manicure. ALSO, if you use the cash machine in the back BEWARE, they charged me twice on the ATM fees. When I mentioned this to the lady at the front desk on my next visit, she was not concerned or surprised. She had great attention to detail with my cuticles (she went over them twice) and she took her time. I picked a color and she coated it 3 more times! She also did a small deep tissue massage on my hands and arms. I walked in to have my gels removed and get a regular manicure. I was only waiting for maybe 10 minutes before I was seated at a table. Moments later my manicurist, Jackie, was there with a complimentary mini bottle of water, which was a refreshing treat! After putting the foil on my nails, Jackie offered the option of a neck massage which I accepted (why not?) and oh my god. 10 minutes from her and two knots in my back were significantly shrunken! It was the first massage I've had that made me understand the pleasurable pain of getting a massage. A second bottle of water was also given to me. As if that massage wasn't enough of a reason to return, my nails turned out great! The quality of the manicure was top notch. My nails feel clean and sleek, and the shape of the nail is exactly what I asked for. One downside, tips are cash only. Cannot add tips to credit or debit cards here. Luckily I had some cash and I believe there's an ATM in the back of the shop. I paid $36 + tip. I'm not sure what to think about my visit to Star Nails. It was a weird experience. When I walked in, they greeted me and asked if I could be helped and I said I would like a mani/pedi. The manager told me the wait would be about 5-7 minutes which I said was fine. Usually I'm then told to pick a color but they didn't say anything. I went and signed in and went and picked out a color anyway. No big deal. A couple came in after me asking for a mani/pedi and they were greeted with a warm hello and then the manager came over and gave them a menu and asked them which type of service they would like. I thought to myself--she never asked me what type of service I'd like. I was finally seated and sat there for a little while before she eventually handed me a menu--no words, she just put it in my hand. I guess I was just supposed to pick a service on my own. Ok. No big deal. They don't have many options on the menu when it comes to mani/pedis. You either get a 4-minute or 6-minute massage and you get a sea salt scrub or not. Ok fine. I also noticed on the menu that you pay extra for a callous treatment. For me, the worst part of pedicures is when they scrub the callouses. It tickles in a non-funny way and it also hurts. It's hard to describe but I don't enjoy it at all. So when the woman asked me if I wanted the callous treatment, I said no. There was no use of me paying extra for something that causes me pain and discomfort. I would rather pay a little extra for a sea salt scrub than for that. She proceeds to file my nails and all, next thing I know, she's applying what looks like a callous treatment. I said "are you doing a callous treatment?" She said "yes" I shook my head and said "I don't want that. It hurts." She looked confused and said "it's not going to hurt" so I said repeatedly "it's painful." She looked like I hurt her feelings and slowly started to take off the plastic for the callous treatment. The manager came over and I reiterated to her that a callous treatment would be painful for me. She seemed to scold the woman and tell her that if a customer says something hurts then you shouldn't do it. I was thankful that she understood where I was coming from but I kept thinking to myself, you can't just make decisions for yourself about what is painful to your customers and what's not, especially for a service that is an extra cost. If someone says they don't want something you should just leave it alone. But all good. I think there may have been a language barrier in all of this too so she just may not have understood what I was saying. No big deal. The manager did my nails. The other woman finished my pedicure. Hands and nails look great. As I was waiting for my nails to dry, I was watching how other customers paid because I always forget to check whether nail salons accept cards or not. I saw a couple of the women pay with cards so I figured I was good. When I got up to pay, the manager who did my nails and had defended me before asked if I had cash and told me there's an ATM in the back. I said "you don't accept cards?" She said yes but I prefer cash. I couldn't help but wonder if she gave that same speech to the other women before me that I watched pay with cards. I needed cash anyway so I didn't fight it so I went to the back of the store and got cash. But usually when you go to nail salons they do have signs all over about paying in cash or not. It was just weird she made a thing out of me paying with a card when they do accept cards. After I paid, the manager said "see you next time!" She asked my name, I told her and then she said "bye-bye" and slammed the door. Such a weird experience. My nails look great in terms of the polish. But this morning my big toe is sore because I think she went too deep on the cut down. And my fingernails keep snagging on things because the filing is a little jagged, which I didn't notice until last night. Sigh. I guess my search for a nail salon in Burbank continues. read more

I stumbled upon this place yesterday on my walk. Its a cozy little spa on Riverside. They took me right away and got to work on my hands and feet. They have a great selection of polishes and the space is very clean. I was helped by Bonnie and Y and they left me with a beautiful gel mani and fresh pedicure. Several regulars walked in and were greeted very warmly and they all seemed happy to return. They even took a walk in fix with no issues which I thought was nice. However, the upsell is aggressive here and prices are HIGH. They advertise a spa mani and pedi at $45 but gel is an additional $20. PLUS they charge to remove gel - Add $3! So $68 plus tip later I walked out of there broke but with pretty nails. I liked the finished product but sadly, I can't afford to return. read more

I'll start Of by saying they do good work .... but.... I was there on a Wednesday for the very first time. Olivia fixed a bad acrylic overlay from another place and changed my gel color. I heard her tell another client not to pick the color that she did because it has a tendency to change colors. I didn't think anything of it at the time and I picked an OPI color which has always been good for me. 2 days later my pink started tuning orange. I went back Monday but they were closed. So I returned today and they wanted to just file the four fingers that had changed colors and redo those. I told them no because the other ones were faded and it wasn't going to match plus why would I want the same color on there that just turned color. They agreed to do a color change for me and actually had the audacity to charge me $10. I paid $30 6 days ago for color that supposed to last weeks. I should not have had to pay again.
