We enjoyed a wonderful meal and had great service. The restaurant was remodeled and it's very nice. The food is better than ever!

We are visiting first time after re model and ownership change, interior is nicely done with great flooring to to ceiling, take a look at pictures with new prefix. We ordered Tom kha soup first and we forget to convey that we want to make it spicy, but later when we conveyed it was too late and they gave hot sauces to mix but, they don't taste great if you add spice later. As we had ordered a large size they brough it with a heating lamp to keep the soup warm till you finish. One mishap that happened was when I refilled my soup by leaning forward I toppled the whole thing becauce, the chair was not resting properly with all the legs, ruined the whole experience. But the service was good, they cleaned up and also replenished the soup. Soup itself was ok nothing elevated. Eggplant salad, which has Fried eggplant tossed in a flavorful Thai dressing, basil, cilantro, carrot, tomatoes, mushrooms, and crispy fried onions., eventhough we diligently ordered to be made spicy, they did not and latter brought some chopped thai chillies. But it did not help and not tasting great and the oily eggplants ruined the salad. Overall it was not great experience read more

I eat a lot of pad Thai, and this was not my preference. The sauce was very one note, not a lot of sweet, or sour, or anything. The chicken was bouncy. Granted, it was ready quickly, and the waitress was nice, but the food was mediocre at best. There is so much good Thai food in Soquel, so I think I'll be sticking with a different choice. read more

I absolutely love this place. There was a time when I was coming here with a group of friends on an annual basis for close to 12 years. There are a few places that serve good tasting, quality Thai food and this is one of those places. I noticed, that there were some changes that were made since the last time I was here. The whole area is way brighter and it seems like there's a lot more space to walk around and sit. The food quality is still the same absolutely delicious. You'll see in the photos what we ate but the photos don't do any justice to the amount of flavor and seasoning found in each bite. I appreciate that they have vegetarian options and that those are often devoured before any of the meat options. The servers were amazing-all of our food was brought out in a timely fashion, still very hot and ready to eat. We had a good time there enjoying good food with good quality service. If you are passing through the area and looking for something like Thai food or if you are willing to try something new, this is the place where you want to go. read more

Came in on the Sunday between Christmas and New Years, easily got a table. Service was on, they kept checking on us and making sure we got everything we needed, even recommending portion sizes, so we didn't order too much. Inrenkoted unified rice and of Thai. However, they didn't ask a spice level for the duck curry. Wasn't really that enamored with it. The fried ice cream was made with a tasty coconut ice cream, but I wish they'd have served it with whipped cream. It's a nice family feel, so come with your loved ones. read more

Their attention to detail and service is excellent. The family who owns it is so sweet, I believe all of their recipes are from their grandmother.. my personal favorites are their chicken sauté, crispy duck, and their yellow curry. My boyfriend and I visited Star of Siam for lunch when we were visiting from the bay area. We ordered the drunken noodles, spicy fried rice dish, and the chicken satay. The flavor of all our dishes was spot on and the spice level was just as we ordered. Everything was fresh and delicious. I also had a Thai iced tea which tasted house-made and was not overly sweet. The service was very friendly, and the restaurant itself is clean, bright, and modern. It's a beautiful place to enjoy lunch or dinner with friends or family. We ate there yesterday at 2 pm, Tuesday. The place had only one other couple there. The seating is strange, on one side of table, chairs. On the other side a hard wood bench. My butt was sore by the time we left. That is the set up throughout the large room. There are so many options on the menu, it is mind boggling, over 21. The description of the food is too long of a read. You could spend an hour just reading all the options for appetizers, entrees, etc. No hot tea comes with the meal. You order separately, an added on expense to the meal. It is so cheap for a restaurant to furnish a pot of tea to accompany Asian food. Unfortunately, neither myself nor my husband thought the food was that good. I had a refried rice entree, and my husband had a choi mien dish. Both were too salty, really not that flavorable. We each ordered the $16.98 lunch with soup, appetizer and entree. We left paying $44 for this meal with tax and tip. Definitely not worth the meal we had and very disappointed. We're always hoping a new restaurant succeeds. We won't be going back to this ione. read more

My friends and I used to go to the old Star of Siam. We loved the fish in their aquariums and the food. Unfortunately they closed for a few years so we were delighted to see they are open again! I have been there several times since the new opening and am very happy the food is just as good as in the past. The staff is very helpful and they did a nice remodel. My favorites are Real Thai and Star of Siam. I have tried other places but either the parking is not good or the food gave me headaches because I have gluten issues. But Real Thai and Star of Siam I never worry about gluten. They are great! I think you will be happy you chose either place! read more

Four for lunch. Started with Thai Snacks which were delish and vegetarian. Then ordered chicken pad Thai, spicy green beans with beef, and cashew chicken. Pad Thai was good but needed more (hot) spice. Green beans were perfectly firm and spicy. All entree dishes came with a healthy portion of meat- they did not skimp. The Santa Cruz, CA area is fortunate to have a number of Thai restaurants for our perusal. We now have 4 in the Soquel - Aptos area with a long shuttered one reopening under new ownership. That would be The Star of Siam in downtown Soquel. Eager to sample their offerings, I ordered my usual to determine the quality and taste of a Thai restaurant's food. That would be Chicken Satay with peanut sauce, Duck Curry with steamed rice and Nam Prik. When I asked for Nam Prik or Nam Jimm, the order taker seemed confused. Well, I don't speak Thai so I may have been using the wrong terms though they seemed to work at other Thai establishments. I described it and they nodded affirmatively. I may substitute Panang Curry and or Thom Kah Gai. These are my personal favs, your's may differ, so be it. This was a take-out order and it took about 20 minutes, which I don't think was extreme for a walk-in take-out order. The Satay was tough and dry because it was overcooked. Probably on a steam table while the curry was being prepared. The peanut sauce was nothing remarkable, missing the richness of coconut milk and spices. The accompanying cucumber salad, typical with satay, was also bland. This was not encouraging. I spooned the rice into my bowl, it was fine, and ladled on the curry. Aromatically it was missing the hints of Thai cuisine I like. The curry was thinner than I expected and seemed to be missing lemongrass and ginger notes. The coconut was in the background. The duck and vegies were perfectly cooked however. But the blandness of the curry detracted from that. Nam Prik is usually a mixture of chilies, garlic, shallots, lime juice and fish sauce served in a small bowl. I got an attempt but it was missing heat and the wonderful aroma of fish sauce. The chilies were jalapenos and no Thai chiles were to be seen. Overall, this was a disappointment. I do like spices and heat in my Thai food. They've been open for a while now so I would have expected the kinks would have worked out. While I waited a number of patrons arrived and a bunch of take-out orders were picked up so they seem to be appealing to a segment of the population. I doubt I'll be returning but I do wish them success. read more

He said he had been going there for more than 20 years and that the food was still super good even after it changed ownership. Unfortunately, disappointing. I had been to this restaurant more than once when it was in its previous incarnation five years ago or so and their barbecue chicken was exceptional big piece(s)enough for two people and just full of flavor very moist. I decided to give it a try and it was very poor, basically a chicken breast and one drumstick with a little bit of some sort of Thai seasoning, the chicken itself was of poor quality, not much meat and for something like $17 it was truly not worth it .also ordered the drunken noodles because it sounded like it could be good and it was poorly prepared with Noodles that were not cooked properly. It was all stuck together very disappointing. I don't know who's cooking in the kitchen? Maybe they're not a Thai person but they really don't seem to know how to make good quality Thai food. read more

I will not be coming back. Our server was rude and made us ask for chopsticks, and napkins twice. She left us with no way to eat or clean ourselves. It was only when I asked her if it was store policy to ask for these things ahead of time that she appologized as if she didn't notice before that moment. The chicken and beef were overcooked and my wife's soup was so bad she ended up throwing it out in favor of a movie theater hotdog. Aside from the overcooked beef, my pad thai was good. We had just hiked nearby Nisene Park and spotted Star of Siam. My husband and I enjoyed the lunch special combo of Green Curry Chicken and Pad See Ew with Eggrolls and Satay appetizer. Combo included soup of the day which was Coconut soup and salad. The combo was so tasty and hit the spot. Lunch was a reasonable price and portions perfect for us. The best Thai food that I have had in the extended Bay Area. The Massaman Curry was delicious and generous portions and a nice presentation. The service was also excellent with a cheerful and helpful manner. Parking was available but may be limited during busy hours. Used to love this place and I still think they're awesome but it is def somewhat inconsistent especially during quarantine times. My guess is fewer customers mean cutting costs. For example I ordered the pad see ew with soft tofu (and I've gotten it from here np) was firm tofu and tasted a bit sour like that flavor of food that's started to go bad. I'll stick to meat next time. The pad see ew had good texture but overall kinda bland and they charged a dollar fee for egg (I thought pad see ew was egg and broccoli??). Red curry was good but very runny and not red or hot whatsoever. The shrimp were big and juicy and perfectly cooked though! Ordered a green curry chicken for mom and she said it was very good. Mango sticky rice was solid. I thought mango was a bit sour and stringy but husband thought it was fantastic. Tasted like they might have toasted the sesame seeds which is nice. Really good customer service and they are thorough, making sure to look over your receipt and check items in your box/bag before giving your takeout. Super appreciate that and don't really see that much these days. Will probably still keep getting thai from here but not as often as we used to because we've been disappointed the last few times. read more

Review #1700! This is such a bright shining Thai star in a time when everything around us seems so bleak. Star of Siam is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area and I'm so glad that we decided to come here for takeout one night. To sum it up - great flavors, affordable prices, and huge portions! My roommate and I ordered five items together: egg rolls, Beef Pad See-Ew, Cashew Chicken, Red Curry with Pork, and their Mango Fish Curry. When we picked it up, everything came in large containers in a giant paper bag that we were shocked it was all for us! Their curry options were excellent! The Red Curry had great flavor and for only $11, you received a large soup container of the good stuff. Most Thai takeout would only give you enough to fill a small container for the same price. Their Mango Fish curry was the same and was my favorite of the two: a fantastic blend of red and yellow curry with fried tilapia and fresh mangos blended into the mix. So worth it! Their Pad See-Ew came in a large box as well and we were already so full from curry that we barely ate half of the noodles. It was a solid dish but I felt the flat noodles could have been charred a bit more to achieve that wok taste I love. Unfortunately, they also use normal broccoli since it's almost impossible to find Chinese broccoli in Santa Cruz. Star of Siam is truly one of the best Thai spots in the area and I can't recommend them enough. Come hungry, definitely! read more

The food we had was tasteless no flavor,no spice I'm taking about the Pad Thai I had better Pad Thai from Costco.They had Tempura shrimp on the menu that was not tempura batter,don't know what is was??? also egg rolls that tasted like it had lawn clippings in it ugh! on a high note the beer was cold.When the newness wears off it may not last with that kind of food. hope you produce better food in the future ,like real Thai food.we won't return for that kind of food wasted over 130 dollars for sicken food. read more

Arrived early with 4 with another couple. Ordered. Took a long time to get the first entrees about 20 minutes. The other couple got their food, then 10 minutes later, husband got his food, then 10 minutes later I got my order, but it was wrong. The waitress wanted to argue about I had ordered. Asked if I wanted what I had ordered. After waiting 20 minutes extra to get my food I said NO. It was getting busy and I was not happy. Our first dinner on the first night of our NorCal roadtrip. Their Potstickers are alright, worthy app. You get six. We ordered via Grubhub and I had to request a refund for the Papaya Salad because they gave us a Thai Salad instead. To give credit where it's due, the peanut dressing is delicious, as they claim. Pad See You is made in oil that isn't as fresh as it could be - there's a noticeable aftertaste. Massamun Curry is a good way to get your vegetables. I can't resist Mango Sticky Rice, though their mango could have been more ripe. The menu is huge, over 100 items, all drastically different. This restaurant has just reopened under new ownership and the food, service and ambiance were all excellent! There are nice touches like macrame hangings and a flowers. This little gem of a place is re-opened to the public and indoor seating is welcome. You are not required to carry or put on your mask which could be a plus for those who wish. But most of the time you're actually eating. The food is exceptional especially their lunch menus has a great variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian plates with all the customary and wonderful cuisine's that they are known for. Pad See Ew with chicken was bland. A little overdone with the fish sauce and could have had more of the bean sauce for correct flavor and darkness to the noodles too. It was disappointing. I'm half Thai, and I know the pictures on Yelp didn't quite look right but decided to try it anyway. I was pleased to see that they had mango with sticky rice on the menu. However, the rice still needed a little bit more coconut milk and the mango wasn't that sweet at all. In fact, some of it was brown up already. Lastly, I ordered a iced green tea drink, which was $2.75, but they provided me with green tea ice cream; Online it said that cost $4.75 lol. They charged me for the iced tea, so I guess I'm grateful for that vs the higher amount even though I've cream is not what I ordered? Ordered for pickup, no utensils were provided but luckily the hotel had some available. Definitely not the Star of Thai cuisine and I'll be ordering from another Thai establishment next time. read more
