Congratulations you qualify and because you are covered by Medicare this service is paid for by Medicare insurance is their initial approach. They then inquire about your sleep and if you snore or stop breathing at night when you rest. Next you are sent home with a sleep study device for two (2) nights. when you return for the next visit to return the sleep study device you have a brief video television visit with a doctor down in Florida where they recommend an oral appliance. a few weeks later you are called back into the office and given the appliance, along with gum, rinses, a brush, instructions and a cleaning device. Since they do not have a Medicare signature card on file you receive a call from an associate that informs you that you should be getting a check from Medicare in which you should deposit it in your bank account and write a personal check to Star Sleep and Wellness for $5000.00 and send it to a Post Office Box in Denton, Texas. this whole ordeal sounds very shady and corrupt where I consulted with several specialists in the area of ears nose and throat as well as Medicare reimbursement specialists regarding the billing process. I was instructed to wait until I received a bill in the mail however this business just leaves text messages and calls from unknown phone numbers. Based on what I know about the healthcare industry Medicare generally only pays 80% of the amount billed and every patient is entitled to receive printed reports of the patient results including sleep study results which were never shared or disclosed. Personally I took the time to get a second opinion and met with an ears nose and throat surgeon in Plano, Texas who did a turbinate reduction on me as well as corrected a deviated nasal septum and discussed other options to me regarding eliminating snoring verses meeting with a dentist who wants to put a large oral appliance in your mouth. I offered to return all the rinses, gum, brushes, instructions and the oral appliance back to Star Sleep and Wellness but got no response from this ghost business and the office in McKinney, Texas was permanently closed. The best consumer is an educated consumer, so especially in this case let the customer be aware that these people are very suspicious and sneaky in their business venture. read more

***BEWARE: SUPER SHADY BUSINESS AND POSSIBLY NOT EVEN LEGIT...Over two months ago now, at the insistent prompting of my Dentist and Periodontist, I called my insurance provider, Aetna, to get a referral to a local sleep study provider. After the initial consult (in my neighborhood) and co-pays galore, I then had a follow up meeting a couple of weeks later in an online. I was told that they were creating a customized mouth appliance for me, as I scored 'low' on the study. Over two months and $600 later and NO WORD from them, I called the local office to find out what's going on. I learned they had 'moved.' Then I had to do a bunch of research to find national number and call it to get ported over to the Houston office ( I live in a suburb of Houston). I explained to them how unhappy I was with this experience and asked for a refund. They told me that they have the mouth appliance already created and were just waiting on an authorization from my insurance provider. Two months later?!!!? Then, more phone calls and still no authorization. Also, if these people even exist, I'm going to have to drive over 30 minutes during a weekday into hectic downtown Houston, just because the office in my neighborhood no longer exists. Fast forward several more phone calls and we're still at the 'pre-authorization' stage and searching for 'co-morbidities' in order to obtain the authorization. You'd think they would have completed all of that before taking my $600. I will be calling Aetna tomorrow to personally request that this company be blacklisted, along with reaching out to the Better Business Bureau to file a formal complaint. I love these folks, they are helping me sleep better! In a balanced and fair review, I will point out that it is true, like other reviewers have noted, it is not the easiest thing to get a new patient appointment around this place. I tried for weeks and they essentially give you one call back and then you are SOL, and have to re-start the appointment. They also use voicemail jail and don't answer the phone, so that is a PITA as well. These are the only issues I have had that keep the review from being a 5-star. Once you are in, they are great! Great doctors, great staff. Typically they run pretty much on schedule, but as with ANY doctors office emergencies can happen that throw off schedules. read more

The lady at the front desk couldn't even help me reschedule my appointment after waiting two months, and then showing up only to be told the Dr didn't want to see me today because he wanted to go home early. My doctor referred me here and sent the referral directly to the sleep medicine facility. I was told they should call me within a week to schedule. 2 weeks later I had heard nothing, so I called them, twice. Had to leave a message. They state in their message you can email them as a new patient. I did that too. Five weeks later, I've already gotten a referral to a different sleep medicine doctor and had my first appointment and still never got a response from this place. I have no confidence in them as a healthcare provider and would not go here as a patient. read more

Terribly unprofessional. Were hard to reach (no one answered, voice mail was full). Once I was able to reach them, had to schedule 6 weeks out. Then, 2 days before my first consult, they had to reschedule. That pushed out another 6 weeks AND THEN THEY ASKED TO RESCHEDULE AGAIN JUST 2 DAYS BEFORE. How many times do I have to clear my work schedule to accommodate my appointment? This shows no respect for their patients time. read more

Back in April I went thru my second sleep study. This facility was very nice and the nurses were so funny and personable. Thanks to the nerve damage in my legs, they were unable to get the leads to ever register with the computer system, although they tried for an hour or so. I had a good nights sleep, even with all of the wires and stuff on me and they woke me up in time to go home and shower and get ready for work at a reasonable hour. If I have to have a sleep study done again, this is where I want to come. read more

I had been told by my wife that I was snoring more loudly than usual and had begun having sleep apnea. I got a referral to Sleep Medicine Associates from a close friend and gave them a call. I went to see Dr. John Debus, and he could not have been nicer or more helpful! I had a sleep study and though I was not comfortable sleeping away from home, I did well there. The sleep lab techs were very pleasant. The room was very nice as well. I had my follow-up appt. this week and found that everyone in the office was just as nice as they were on my first visit. Dr. Debus took ample time to explain my results and I was set up with the CPAP machine tech, named Joel. He took even more time with me to show me all of the ins and outs of the CPAP machine, making it a lot of fun as he went. All in all, I would highly reccommend the Sleep Medicine Associates of Texas and Dr. Debus. Though I went to the one in Plano at Baylor, they do have a Dallas location as well near Presbyterian Hospital. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is the wait to get an appointment. They tend to be rather booked, but that's just because they are such a great office. And once you do get your appointment and get to the office, they get you back to see the doc very quickly! read more

I called The first of December to discuss a serious issue. Left the message with the PA. No call. Tried again 2 weeks later and read the findings to the person who took my call. It is Dec 23 and still nothing. Good luck getting your medicine refilled. I got my bill for my phone visit, which I expected, but was shocked to be billed by the doctor who approved my refill. Greed and lousy service. Dealing with them is a tiring experience. Go somewhere else. read more

Their website gives you a phone number to call to "schedule your personalized consultation today" - I called but they would not see me without having my primary doctor refer me first and seeing the doctor's notes from the last two visits. Even though I have a PPO insurance plan and don't require a referral. She said it's not an insurance issue, so I'm not sure why why won't do consultations with potential new patients. I explained the sudden episodes I'm having at night but apparently I need to go through my primary doctor, at a $50 co-pay for each visit, to talk about it when I know my primary doctor is going to agree it's a sleep/breathing issue and refer me anyways. You might be better off finding a practice with less hoops to jump through. read more

This place is terrible, please avoid this practice. It took me days to schedule an appointment because it takes them so long to return a call. I do the take home sleep test (which costs $200+). I reschedule a few times for the follow up appointment. The last time I show up they tell me that I'm five minutes past the appointment window and the doctor wants me to reschedule. I then get a letter saying they are dropping me as a patient. I would be ok with that if I had gotten a warning at least or if they had some kinda three strike policy. The very next day, I get a call from them to confirm my appointment for later that week sigh...this place is the worst practice I've ever seen. I would give a zero if I could. read more

I requested my PCP to refer me to a Sleep Medicine doctor back in July 2019. I am not sure of the exact date, but I know from working with healthcare providers and payers that getting the referral and processing the requests take time. It's not instantaneous like we all would like to believe. At any rate, I was contacted in late August 2019 or early September 2019 to schedule my equipment pick up date for the Home Study. That was seamless. I was in and out in less that 30 minutes. Everyone I interacted with was professional. When I returned the equipment a few days later, I had the same experience. Fast forward to October 8th, I went to Dr. Stephenson's Plano office. The team was professional and made me feel at ease. After being called to the back, my vitals were taken and I was educated on how the insurance process works, as well as provided the worst case scenario out-of-pockets cost estimate, which is extremely helpful. We also scheduled my CPAP fitting appointment and my 6-week follow up then. Dr. Stephenson came out to greet me, in his office we had a great discussion, he answered my questions, conducted an assessment, and thoroughly went over the results of my sleep study. He even wrote all over it with notes so I wouldn't forget what things were when I explained it to my husband that evening. I left his office excited about the CPAP, when all along I was hesitant, even though I requested this whole process. Today is October 17th, and I had my CPAP fitting with Amanda. Let me tell you, Amanda is a professional! I walked in and she had everything thing ready for me e.g. paperwork, equipment. There was no dead time spent with Amanda. She demonstrated how to assemble the machine, went over cleaning instructions, explained every portion of the machine, helped me test it out and gave me a checklist that covered everything we talked about. I left her office excited to go home and take a nap to try out the machine even thought is was 9:30 AM. I highly recommend Sleep Medicine Associates of Texas! read more

Called to speak to someone and the phone rang off the hook. Finally after 3 tries I decided to go by for a replacement strap on the cpap mask I purchased 2 years ago. My insurance changed this year to Ambetter and I learned that it is not accepted. Further, they would not sell me a new strap without first getting an annual checkup. So, unless I paid cash for a checkup, I was unable to get the part I needed. Someone at this office needs their head examined for such a ridiculous policy. Guess what Sleep Medicine, I will go to another medical practice that takes my insurance like Sleep Dallas for future needs. I also found the strap I needed for $20, which probably was about 1/3 of the price they would have charged me. read more

Wow, if your insurance changes to Cigna, you're in trouble trying to get CPAP supplies with this group. I can't get anyone to respond to phone messages left or emails. Every communication I've had with them had be me calling and being insistent on talking to someone. What a runaround. I'm seriously going to try to find another group that's in-network with Cigna. They've been okay to deal with up to now, but not with new insurance. Strongly encourage you to avoid this group if you're a Cigna patient! read more

I scheduled an online appointment at the beginning of this month. They email me back as ask if I wanted an appointment. I responded in the affirmative...and then crickets. After a few days, I emailed them and asked if they were going to schedule an appointment for me. They responded back with 3 appointment options for 8/30. I responded that 9am on the 30th would work great for me. I then completely reworked my schedule for that week so that I could make the appointment. When I showed up today and gave the receptionist my name and appointment time, she looked at me like I was crazy. She said I wasn't in their system. I said really? I have emails going back and forth with their appointment scheduler saying I have a 9am. So, she takes my phone reads the emails and then snarkily says, "I see where you said 9am would work great; but, where's your confirmation email?" I told her right there, you guys gave me options, I responded back with, "9am works great for me." She then rudely states that it's my fault for not having not a valid appointment because I didn't receive a confirmation email. I was dumbfounded!! I cannot believe that she had the gall to tell me to my face that it was my fault their appointment scheduler was inept and forgot to follow through with scheduling my appointment..they did receive my email stating 9am, they just failed to follow through with actually scheduling the appointment. And to make things even worse, she told me that Dr. Jamieson was there and had openings. She then went back to his office and told him about the scheduling mistake and asked if he would see me. He told her no, he would not. I HIGHLY suggest if you are looking for a Sleep Medicine Doctor, DO NOT use Sleep Medicine Associates of Texas. If they are going to blame me for a mistake on their end, God only knows what their actual quality of care is...are they going to blame me too if one of their doctors makes a mistake? read more

I have been a patient at Sleep Medicine Associate of Texas for almost 20 years. During that time, they have continually gone out of their way for me, even staying late once when I got stuck in traffic while going to pick up my prescriptions. All my questions/needs have been followed up in a timely manner. Dr. Rosenthal has been amazing and is genuinely concerned about his patients, asking all kinds of questions to make sure that he has a complete view of my lifestyle. He always offers suggestions on how to (realistically) lessen the impact of my sleeping disorder so that it doesn't affect what I want to accomplish. I've never experienced any of the issues mentioned in other reviews and obviously would highly recommend this place. read more

I've been over billed and have been seeking resolution for two years. They are charging twice for the same thing and nobody will fix the billing. They are now stating they are sending me to a collection agency! I cannot get anyone to respond with anything that explains why I am being charged twice and when I push, they ghost me.
