Got there a little before 12:30pm and they took my car in right away and told me they'd be done in 10-15 mins... they were easily done in 10. I think it actually took me longer to drive there from work. Got back to work to pay my registration fees and the Smog Cert was already in the DMV system! That was easy! Bonus: COUPON! Great service. Quick smog. The attendant, Kevin, was really nice and greeted me before I even finished parking and sent me to the office to talk to Katie, who was very courteous, and both were very efficient. She gave me an estimate for time and cost (which ended up being $46 with the yelp check-in). I watched a few scenes of the Italian Job in the waiting area while my car was inspected. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. Easy peezy. While I was there, Katie talked to an elderly lady whose car couldn't pass smog yet due to the engine computer being reset from recent battery/alternator issues. Katie explained the situation to her pretty well and what the lady needs to do to solve to the problem, unfortunately the lady didn't seem to understand exactly what the issue was and left visibly agitated. As a newcomer to Poway I had to find a new smogging place. The guys working here are so sweet, and so smart. You couldn't ask for better. I say that as someone whose car failed the test TWICE before finally passing. They had to work to make me understand what was wrong with my poor old car. I was afraid to go to a mechanic; I've always owned or leased newer vehicles that didn't even require a smog check. Suddenly sortof poor in the last year or so (curses, former employer who casually drops employees before full-retirement age!), I was afraid people without money are somehow not allowed to have nice things. It is a mean old world in a lot of ways. I am learning a lot about how to function differently now. How to think differently. And it's okay. I don't mind learning. Worst case scenarios don't always happen. People like Kevin and Tuan here, and Josh at Hawkins Auto Repair, and the good-hearted folks at O'Reilly's Auto Parts, did what they do and it all worked out this time.
