When we travel up or down the 101, we often stop at a Starbucks along the journey. It's a reliable option for reasonably clean restrooms, friendly baristas, and the drink options we enjoy. This King City location is one we've visited a number of times, usually on the northbound trip. This last time we got a venti Frappuccino to share, and I ordered a chocolate chip cookie for something sweet. There was a line to use the restroom, and the order took a while to be filled. It was just an okay visit, as a result. The drink was well made. We got to stretch our legs a bit, and pick up the refreshments to boost our spirits and energy to push on to Sonoma County. We needed a caffeine boost for our ride home, so we stopped at the Starbucks in King City, west of Hwy 101. It was quite busy when we got there. My husband waited in line to put our order in. I used the restroom while we were there. It's very clean and tidy, luckily. My husband ordered a grande cappuccino and I got an iced black tea. The employee working the drive-thru had a lot of attitude for no apparent reason. I understand that everyone has off days, but the interaction felt unnecessarily rude. We ordered two drinks and, after receiving them, asked if we could also get a cup of water. For context, there was no line behind us, just one car. Instead of simply handing us a water, we were told we had to go back through the drive-thru kiosk and place another order. We weren't asking for another drink to be made, just a cup of water while we were already at the window. I have a lot of things to mention and I don't do this out of bad intent but so the location can work on these things While the person was taking my order mid order. they decided to make a sandwich for about a minute while I was waiting to pay. Then when my order was brought out they forgot my water so I forgot then realized and went back and it was sitting there. You'd think they'd bring it out together. If you go to the Starbucks, make sure you go through the drive-through. This is the slowest service I have ever had. It's honestly terrible. If I could put zero stars I would. They mainly served the drive thru and ignored the people inside. We waited 30 minutes for one coffee. Finally got it and it's a warm cup of milk with a splash of coffee. Wasted my money and time. Zero smiles from a single employee. I've worked in the restaurant industry and even if you're understaffed and out of everything, an apology and smile goes a long way. Positives: Spacious, has indoor and putdoor seating, bathrooms are clean. One tall male employee with dark curly hair made the best iced shaken expresso I've ever had. The ratio of coffee to ice to syrup to sweetener was PERFECT. If it's based on this drink made by this gentleman alone, it's definitely 5 stars all the way!! Negatives: After the excellent expresso, I'd come back 3 or 4 times and the drinks are not nearly as good now. The other baristas are not as talented and they don't really know how to mix the exact ratio for tasty drinks. Drinks were either too sweet or too diluted or did not contain enough expresso nor ice. Neutral: customer service. Not fantastic though not bad either. Things to improve on: Iced coffee drinks: ratio would be better if had more expresso and less syrup and milk, I think. Iced tea drinks: would be better with more tea and less water and more ice. Hot or warm tea melts ice very fast, therefore baristas should wait only until the tea is cool to pour on ice. Sometimes my flavored tea drinks have too much water and too much flavored syrup so they pretty taste like sugared water. This is not what customers want to pay for. Maybe Starbucks should let customers have the option to add in more than 1 tea bag like how they do with expresso shots. Great Starbucks to stop by going down 101. It's the first king city exit coming from the north and is right off of the exit. They have clean bathrooms and everything else is standard Starbucks. They have masks available for the time they are required. I saw the manager give them to people who were not wearing them. read more

Used to be a fairly nice place to stop pick up some breakfast on the way to work. It was also a pleasant place to meet up with students or other staff in the evening. The new bathrooms are gross. The service is mediocre at best. I stopped on my way through town to take a break from traveling. This was at 8:30. I was told that they were closing at nine. The posted hours say 10 . Going south on the 101. Stopped in a little before 7AM on Wednesday. Was in a hurry, so I rushed in and ordered something quick. Caramel Macchiato? No. That would probably take too long. So. A large hot green tea, please. I paid up my 4.25 and a 1$ tip. 5.25$. So. How long could it take? You stick a teabag or two in a paper cup and pour some hot water over it and hand it over. So, again. How long could it take? There were only a few people inside. The drive thru had people going through. I watched a pretty substantial number of employees making bunches of labor intensive beverages, hot and cold. Lots of heating up of multiple breakfast or pastry items and putting them in their little paper sleeves. Filling up of multiple cold drink dispensers for the customers later to come. 10 minutes in, I finally see someone get out my large cup and a couple of teabags and set it in the back counter. Thank god....But no. There it sat. Fancy drinks being made and moving out around it. Once in a while, it seemed someone inside would get a drink or a heated up item. Was all the energy going to keep the drive thru line moving? Meanwhile , what I assumed were my teabags and cup, were still sitting on the back counter. Where's the hot water? Hot water? Anyone? I waited a few more minutes hoping someone would just pour some flippin' water on the flippin' teabags and hand me the flippin' cup already! FFS! Then I left. Empty handed. What a waste of time and money. Next time I'll go to McDonald's across the street and get a not too terrible cup of coffee for under two dollars. A lot faster. Probably in about as much time as it should take to pour some hot water over a couple of tea bags in a cup and hand it to a customer. Note to Starbucks: at the Peet's I go to, if you order a plain coffee or tea, they just take the second or two to pour it and give it to you right then. You don't have to wait for the person in front of you's order for the four white mocha Frappe'-chinos with whip, syrup and sprinkles, along with their four breakfast sandwiches that need heating up, to get finished first. read more

The best thing about this Starbucks is that it's right off the freeway and has easy access back on. It's a typical Starbucks with its plythora of caffeinated coffees and teas in addition to snack items. My server was friendly and the service was decently quick. Some of the tables needed cleaning but I think I was here when there was a sudden rush and staff didn't have time to clean them up. But, for those of us who frequent Starbucks we understand that some are good and some are not. This one is great. It is one of my necessary stops every time I drive North or South on the 101. It is easy to get off and on the freeway in King City and at this location you can do the drive-thru or you can park, go inside, and a take a moment to sit back and relax before you continue your journey, which is what I recommend. We left Monterey and was heading back to LA, when we spied this location as we transitioned onto the 101 south from King City. Its located on the right side as soon as you exit the freeway, across the street from the McDonalds. If you just need a drink, they offer a drive thru. If you need to stretch and use the bathrooms, the parking lot here is weird. They need to restripe the parking lot, as people park in every direction to create their own spot. The baristas don't seem to communicate to one another when they are out of an item. Stephen ordered an iced coffee and it wasn't until I got my black tea lemonade is when they said they ran out of iced coffee. They substituted it with an iced Americano (at no additional charge) but it was still lame they communicate what they're out of. It was late (almost 6 pm) and their pre packaged food items were almost gone. They have 2 unisex bathrooms and plenty of tables and outlets. I'd give this a 3 1/2 star. read more
