Stopped here for a quick lunch. I ordered a carne asada taco. The taco was very reasonably priced. It came with onions, cilantro, and a lime. It had a regular sized tortilla. Overall it was a very good taco and very filling. Would highly recommend the taco. read more

From out of town and didn't see this little gem on the map. Fortunately, on a walk to see downtown I spotted it and we came back for some delicious homemade savory breakfast. Torta de carnitas was very nice, nice bread, served with some spicy sauces. coffee was flavorful and hot. Homemade flour tortilla for the burrito was a stand out. Gorgeous pastry items. We arrived around 7 pm on a Monday night because Yelp said Castro's closed at 8 pm, but the kitchen was already closed. They were kind enough to reopen it to make us an asada burrito and asada tacos. We were hungry and it was late so we really appreciated the good food and hospitality. We also got a bolillo and some plain cookies (4 for $1). The bolillo was soft and airy on the inside but not quite crusty enough on the outside. The cookies were simple but good. Their other pastries looked fresh even at the end of the day. The bathroom was clean but did not have a lock and the soap dispenser was broken. This was a convenient stop off the 101 and we would stop here if we're in the area again to try their other offerings. read more

And soups!) This concha thou...Chocolate, fresh layers and the perfect balance of sweet, crunch, smooth, just hit me in all its glory like no other. OMG! And it was still a little warm... I enjoyed it with a big black cup of coffee! The concha+ 4 cookies + coffee put me at $5.15! what a deal, but they deserved another $5 for the tip and the size of the concha. This is a great place to grab a breakfast burrito and a sandwich for lunch. We came at 6:30 in the morning and the place was absolutely packed and it smelt amazing with all the different Mexican pastries baking. My aunt is a vegetarian and she was able to get vegetarian friendly food we got a papas and egg burrito with cheese and they made her a sandwich with cheese and veggies. We also asked if they cook with lard or oil and they cook with oil she had no issues later so this place really worked out for us. Staff were very friendly and they were quick with making everything along with answering all questions. All in all a very cute stop for anyone doing the west side of pinnacle or just looking for a killer burrito and torta. Between Buellton and Salinas on 101, there are a lot of Mexican food places but few have 4-1/2 stars. This place deserves all of it and more. The best thing is hearing the guys singing along to the radio. One of them has a really good voice! The food - let me tell you, the tortillas are light as a feather and the meat is deliciously cooked to a perfect texture and flavor. Everything we ate was a delight but my favorite was a surprise. I ate the last churro they had. It had a custard center and it was amazing. Next time I am going to try the sandwiches because everybody came in to buy their bread. You won't be sorry! We ate breakfast here 2 morning since we loved the delicious food! First morning a veggie omelette with beans, rice, potatoes and 3 homemade corn tortillas. So much food! The other person had a huge breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, chiles, beans and cheese... again delicious and huge! The next morning we both had cheese and bean pupusas with sides. Always coffee and each day with those breakfasts we ate our lunches late in the day. Friendly and quick service as we ate our meals there; however, many people came in for take-out items. Well that we did also: empanadas, bread pudding and a cheese danish. Trying to figure how I can add this place on my future California travels. Would love to have more meals here! read more

This is a local novelty. For years, this has been the place for Bolillo or sweet bread pick ups. Our favorites include the churros, conchas, pink cookies which do run out on a busier day. We get our churros only at 2 places: Disneyland or Castro's. The bread is always fresh, warm and on display. Food: As for the food, you will have a tasty and authentic experience. The regular burritos come with refried beans, rice, onion, cilantro and meat of choice on a homemade tortilla. Basics like the beans and Spanish rice are made to perfect grandma standard. Asada, chicken verde, chicharron and barbacoa are all delicious depending on your day's appetite desire. Asada burrito with everything is my go-to. On a very hungry day, I go for the Asada super burrito. On Thursdays, it is $1 Taco day. You can't beat this! Check it out, you will be coming back for more. Also, their homemade family green and red salsa are always top notch (make sure to ask for extra for some kick). Environment: tables, counters and floors are always clean. Wow. I call them marshmallow cloud tortillas, but you may Call them whatever you like. I thought the tortillas were flour because they were so soft and not gritty like all of the other corn tortillas I've ever tried. They make these corn tortillas and house, and they are white fluffy gummy chewy tortilla skins. You can buy 3 for $1.50. The Marinated pork (adobada) has textures center to its edges that are crispt by a home fire barbecue. Carnitas are juicy thick cuts of split pork loin. So moist, it leaks out of your tortilla skin. The salsa that they put on the side is also of note, not your regular water is salsa but it's nice and thick spicy and well flavored. Slightly confusing are the coffee drinks, they are unlabeled carafes. The crafts on the left are cinnamon coffee and then the ones on the right are coffee. I have visited this bakery two times and was very happy both times. The first time I tried their tacos Carne Asada. The meat was moist and juicy and the garnish is super fresh. The second time was on the weekend when they make pozole Verde. It was so good that we bought a quart to go so that we could have it for dinner the next day. read more

I had the breakfast burrito with bacon, egg, potatoes, cheese, and sour cream. It was huge and super tasty. It came with a delicious green salsa. I also had pan dulce for the first time , and I loved it. So pillowy and the crunchy sugar on top made it just the right sweetness. Note to self: Don't get the pink sugar because you end up with a pink tinged mouth. Beverages are self-serve coffees and teas with a case for sodas and other things. You order at the counter, and when dining in, they do bring you food to the table. As for the ambiance, it was spot on with banda music and some nice cultural murals. read more
