I called a week earlier to ask if we could be put near each other at the hotel, and the front desk person kindly said they would put us next to each other. When we checked in, we walked into the lobby. It is very pretty and appears clean. To their credit, they had us next door to our friends. Super cool! It was cool until we realized we were in a construction area. They were remodeling rooms across the hall, and Sheetrock dust was billowing into the hallway. Not cool! We went to the front desk, and they were accommodating and moved us (both rooms) upstairs, away from construction. If you have ever traveled for dance, there's quite a lot of stuff to carry/move. This wasn't fun during a heat wave, but we lugged everything upstairs. The second room was serviceable. We were a bit disappointed that the pool was closed for renovation, but happy that the office suggested their "sister hotel" for swimming. A little inconvenient, but at least there was a pool. Cons: the outdoor doors were not locked to outsiders. Due to the construction in various parts of the hotel, extension cords and propped doors were kind of the norm. Overall we would return.

Huge room, comfortable, quiet and cozy. 6 star The quiet, do we even have anyone in the Inn or the town? The insulation is top notch. The dark The ultra sleeping experience. I guarantee the owner slept in this room at least one night to get feel for the room and make those little touches. How many hotels do you go to where the shades don't keep out the light or that the various clocks and smoke alarms and power strips and wall outlets all have bright led lights on them? How many times have I draped a sock over something. Not here, even the clock has a bright, dim and off option. I love a blacked out room and very very rarely get one. The shower - powerful and hot and oversized. Wow. Massive bathtub with jacuzzi option, wow. A well hidden TV, a really nice touch. We don't want it dominating the room. Bed, I've returned 3 mattresses after purchasing them at my house so I am picky and this bed is elite. Huge comfy chairs, comfy robes, this room has it all and the a/c is powerful. Resort 6stars Wine and cheese and fruit and cracker happy hour, bring $5 to tip Susan, she is a cheerful conversatalist. Breakfast is massive, don't plan to go anywhere else for brunch or breakfast. And a free shuttle to/from Foxwoods Now the reasons why there are no more points: - the rooms: thin walls and ceiling, strange noises during the night (maybe a nearby compressor), a bed in a metal frame that made pinging noises when you moved while sleeping. And the worst- the smell! Some kind of musty smell, maybe a cover up for old cigarette smell. The smell was so bad we brought air fresheners which didn't help. The smell permeated everything we brought into the room- clothes, luggage, bags. I had to wash, clean, aerate everything when I got home. - and the advertised "deluxe continental breakfast" did not exist. The breads were stale, no yogurt and the y hot food was make your own waffles. Other than some cereal, that was it. Definitely not deluxe

I contacted the Hilltop and no supervisor will call me back. I have sent countless emails. No response. Called no one will call me back. The room smelled horrible. I've been a nurse for several years and honestly seems like a health hazard. I'm wondering if it could be mold. I am sensitive to smell but the more I thought about it the more I wonder if maybe everyone cannot smell it which means they aren't aware of the danger. I let the health department know as well.

It was the day after Thanksgivings and it wasn't too busy , check -in /check-out was a breeze no line. The hotel was clean ! The bed sheets smell like fabric softener , the bathroom was clean with bright lighting. There are plenty of outlets and charging ports in the room. Room had a fridge , microwave and a coffee maker. There was two bottled waters , unless you are a Hilton Member , do not drink the water , you will be charged $3.50 per bottle ! They have a small restaurant , during check we got a ticket for a free appetizer with the purchase of a cocktail or mocktail. For breakfast they offered 10% off any breakfast menu item , otherwise breakfast was buffet style. When we were checking out, there was complementary coffee and tea in the lobby. I would stay at the Hilton again , this was the only off site hotel I seen. It's convenient and close to the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos as well as Tanger outlets. Front desk staff was helpful.

Our room was the deluxe suite with king bed which was just a few dollars more than the standard room but definitely worth it. The room was very very spacious, neat and most importantly very clean! The bathroom unlike other hotels had bunch of different size towels and small toiletries for the shower. Lot of bathroom counter space which is a must especially if there's 2 or more people staying in the room Our checkin was very pleasant and quick. In the lobby there's an ATM machine but was out of service and a small snack bar with prices clearly marked on each item. Their breakfast is ok could be a little better. It's not like a traditional continental breakfast, no eggs or any type of meats. You only get to make your own waffles and there some bagels, cereal, yogurts, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. When you walk through the front door, you are greeted by artwork, books, and a parlor off to the right. There is a baby grand piano, tuned and ready to be played in the parlor. Walk straight through the front foyer and you enter the dining room which has coffee, teas, and water available 24/7. There was a plate of cookies on the table that were home made and out of this worldA scrabble game was set and ready to go. A well rounded breakfast menu was posted and you can order whatever you like, all home made including the granola. I am gluten free and Josephine was so accommodating. I even discovered a new GF bread that I thought was better than most I have tried. Josephine has a talent in the kitchen to say the least. Everything was delicious. There is a lot of local information on where to go and what to do. OK- now, the Mermaid Room This is not a large room but it has everything you need (including a little fridge) and the hand painted walls are an absolute study. To think one young lady produced all that art, a talent to be admired. There are 3 more rooms upstairs but I wanted to be on the main floor. I found the location perfect. It is not on the main drag so it isn't noisy but just walk a couple of blocks and you are right in the middle of downtown Mystic with all the glorious restaurants, cute shops, and a drawbridge over the Mystic River. 100% charm. It also has a gas fireplace and central air. It's spacious and has a nice river view. It's quiet at night. And, of course, there's the Shipwright''s Daughter restaurant downstairs. Like the Main Inn, the Hoxie House has no elevator. This time our stay is quite nice.
