We attempted to stay at NAVY LODGE NEW LONDON, Groton CT, Karll Smith was working the evening shift. This was the WORSE customer service as a retired military family. Prior to our arrival we went online to see if this Navy Lodge had space available, and it was showing they have 3 rooms available for booking. So we decided to just do a walk in and the manager (Karll Smith) was rude and unprofessional. Mr. Smith told us that they had 3 rooms under construction, and he had no space available. So we called the Navy Lodge central booking, and reported this poor customer service and unprofessional staff member. We were booked a room and our credit card was charged $107 June 16, 2026, but no room was available. So we ended up going to the Navy Inn instead, which had much better customer service. Monday June 15, 2026 evening shift. Names of employees noted with a pic on reviews on social media. The pics on my phone are time and date stamped proving I was at this lodge. I called and spoke to Sarah June 17, 2026, my CC was charged $107. She stated we were a no show that night which is a lie. He stated in front of me and spouse no rooms are available, even though customer service stated that 3 rooms are available. Karll is a liar and a unprofessional individual. How and why would you have anyone working at your Lodge with this kind of attittude, not good at all. This is CC fraud, I will be reporting this to my CC company if this isn't reversed. June 18, 2026 I spoke withe the General manager Brandon: He was kind and apologized for the incident. He did refund us our money back. appreciated his kindness. Three stars for room prices and staff friendliness. The prices here are great and they allow pets, a bonus for many. They do serve a continental breakfast in the morning, which isn't horrible bit never changes. Muffins, pastries, cereal, yogurt, juice, milk, and coffee. Unfortunately, the pastries and muffins are not very good. Still, it's better than nothing at all. The rooms are spacious, but unfortunately quite dusty. Our stay was over a week and soap was never replaced. We ran out of toilet paper at one point as well, but thankfully I brought some along. The beds are hard and not comfortable but we remembered that from before and bought a foam mattress pad. I also had some cleaning wipes so was able to get much of the dust. Very welcoming structure (of that makes any sense). The front desk staff was very polite and professional. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and functional. The kitchen is small, but there's a functioning kitchen should you need one. The outside grounds are clean and pretty. Loving the view from my room, but mainly that's because I'm a geek who hadn't experienced real autumn in 20-something years (we live in the South). My only thing is that I was not told about the free Wi-Fi and it took me a while to realize that the name of the free Wi-Fi network doesn't indicate that it is in fact the Navy Lodge's Wi-Fi. As for the bagged grab-and-go breakfast. This is pretty common everywhere now. I saw some people complain about that. Just be glad you're given something to put on your stomach! read more

The only redeeming quality is the price, compared to civilian hotels. That and the location is quite convenient. Our room stunk like garbage and cats when we first got in. The place has likely never been dusted. Everything is dusty. The floors aren't ever clean. The "clean" towels had other people's hair on them consistently throughout our stay (no idea how this even happens). The laundry room is tiny and the hours are inconvenient. You have to ask to have your room cleaned but then they randomly just come in and clean regardless so it's very confusing. Water pressure is basically nonexistent so showers were miserable. It was fine for what we needed it for, but it's not a pleasant stay. Wouldn't stay again. read more

I give it 5 stars not because it's a 5 star hotel but because of the price, cleanliness and the staff. I just came back from a week here to see my son's homecoming and spend some time with him (I live in CA). You can't beat the price since you are paying less than $75/night unless you stay at a no tell motel. It's not a luxurious resort but we don't stay here for the hotel do we? -Free coffee, muffin, yogurt and bottled water in the morning. -$1 for movie rental -They are allowing military WITH ID and Navy Lodge Key Card to use the community pool across the street (for now that may change) read more

(REVIEWING THIS NAVY LODGE IN COMPARISON TO OTHER NAVY LODGES.) Here's the Venn diagram for this joint... ****** PROS ****** -- SPACIOUS. This is one of the larger Navy Lodges I've stayed in. -- PET ROOMS. I can't speak for all of them, but the one I stayed in had linoleum flooring that was really smart (see photo). -- SNOW CLEARANCE. They actually were very diligent about this: ALL the walkways were always kept clean and snow/ice-free. -- CUSTOMER SERVICE. Bill was the one who checked me in at about 3am. He must have sensed the delirium from lack of sleep, because he was very gentle with me, which was very much appreciated. He continued the awesomeness with each new encounter. ****** CONS ****** -- PARKING. There just are NOT enough parking spots for the number of guests at this place. Making things worse are the winners in the military housing right next to the Lodge that use the parking lot for their own long-term storage: boats, trailers, etc. With the Lodge not addressing this, the guests are left scrambling to find a place to park. -- SHOWERS. No water pressure. It's like being spit on by a well-hydrated "Big & Tall" man. -- LAUNDRY. This really sucked. Two washers and two dryers (one dryer broken) for the entire floor. THEN, they lock the laundry room up from 10pm to 6am. Trying to do your laundry late at night to avoid having to fight for access with all the other guests? NICE TRY. Get up at 630am to try that laundry again? STILL CLOSED! Now you get to hump your laundry in your jammers and slippers to the lobby, to see if someone can open it up special for you. FANTASTIC! -- CLEANLINESS. Kind of sketch over all. You can tell the cleaning staff swept the room and wiped some horizontals. But then, the utensils in the kitchen were NOT clean on check-in (see photos). The mirrors in the bathroom were dirty. And I'm not convinced the sheets were changed at all during my stay. -- CUSTOMER SERVICE. After a snowstorm that came on my heels during a trip from down south, I asked the front desk lady (Germania) for one of those ice scrapers to clear off my car. [For reference, at the Susse Chalet on base, the front desk kept several on hand for guests to use.] She says they don't have any -- only shovels. So I ask -- thinking there must be an alternate solution -- what people do around here to clear off their cars? Her answer: "They all just have one of their own." And moved on to the next guest. What an ignorant answer. At this MILITARY hotel, which has people PCS-ing from all over the country, the front desk person believes people just get issued one as soon as they cross the state line? Or maybe she thinks people in Southern California, Arizona, and Georgia carry them all the time -- just in case? Either way, that answer is UNSAT from someone working the front desk at a Navy Lodge. WANTING TO LIKE THIS PLACE, when everything said and done, this place an option because of the price point. You stay here because you have to -- not because you want to. read more

Stayed on 2 occasions now. Second experience had a less than friendly front desk clerk. Looks like he belonged serving up coffee at a Starbucks instead. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Wireless internet available through out. They put out a "Grab and go" continental breakfast in the morning comprised of portable food like granola bars, yogurt cups, and packaged muffins, Coffee in the lobby round the clock. read more

Great hotel stay while visiting our sailor for the first time in Groton. Clean comfortable room and property which was recently updated is very nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. Only suggestion is website should make it clear your active duty sponsor needs to be available for checkin. We are new military family, arrived after midnight and our sailor son would not have been able to check us in as it was past curfew. We would have had him check us in earlier in the day had we known. Thankfully the night attendant sponsored us for the night and the next day we could have our son replace her. We look forward to visiting again later this year. read more

We've stayed on a less than a handful of Navy lodges. We've been to Great Lakes, Pensacola and now here. This place is yet the BEST place we've come to visit. The place looks very modern compared to the other navy lodges. The room accommodations, sheets, couch, bathroom and kitchen amenities are so much more newer and definitely cleaner. The staff on ALL navy lodge we've been to have all been very nice and courteous. This place is no exception. Although it's not inside the base the neighborhood is very nice and quiet. As long as they have room available early check in are always accommodated nicely. read more

This is a fantastic place to stay. It books early, so get your reservation in as soon as possible. At about $70 a night, it's tough to beat price wise. Big rooms, nice furniture, excellent kitchenettes. Great place to go, even for a weekend get-a-way. read more

My 100th Review!!! And too bad it has to be a mediocre review! This hotel does deserve the 5 stars if you are only staying for a night, or a week at the most. However, my husband and I and our dog are here for 2 and a half months. We are half way through, and I am itching to get out. Pros: -For the most part, the staff is really nice. -When things are cleaned, they are cleaned well. -It is in a great location. -The beds are comfortable. -The rooms are a good size. -Free To-Go breakfast in the morning Cons: - Since we are long-term customers, I do not find it necessary for the cleaning staff to come in EVERYDAY to clean. So I allow them in every other day since they have a policy where they need to come in at least once every 24 hours. This is fine, except on more than one occasion, they have come in and nothing was done. Numerous times I have had to call and ask for toilet paper, ask for tissues, and ask for towels. One time, the covers on our bed were just thrown up. We went 3 weeks without having the toilet cleaned. The bathroom and kitchen floors have yet to be swept. Really, this would not be a big deal, but these are things I cannot do myself and when I do call the front desk and ask for cleaning supplies, I get 20 questions. Do I really need to explain why I need paper towels? -Hot water is a luxury here on weekends unless you plan on taking a shower after 1pm. I understand that it is busy, but it is a hotel. -Some of the staff at the front desk can be rude. There is one man in particular that I avoid because he makes me feel stupid. There was one incident where my dog got sick on the carpet in my room, so I needed something to clean it up with. I called and asked for paper towels and he said he had none. So I explained the situation and he comes to the door and tells me to find a cleaning lady for the supplies..... So I had to walk around finding a cleaning lady. -The sheets are supposedly changed every four days, but thats doubtful. I never expected anything grand since this is a Navy Lodge, but I was expecting the basics. If we weren't staying here for 2 and a half months, none of this would be a big deal, but the fact of the matter is that we are. This is our temporary home and I wish it would start to feel like one... read more

Wow, absolutely clean! We only stayed for one night but I wish we had stayed for the weekend. It was a lot better than expected, and I'm so glad we stayed. Cheap and clean, comfortable! The only part I was disappointed about was the beautiful, cool looking pool across the street that guests are not allowed to use. I don't know if it's the base pool or a housing pool... but apparently navy lodge guests USED to be able to swim there, but not anymore because it was "too crowded." Only PCS-end guests are permitted. Oh well. I will be looking forward to our next navy lodge experience! read more

Honestly, this is not a bad place at all to stay! We have been here for two weeks and have had a very pleasant experience and will probably put our family and friends up here who come to visit. Very clean, very comfortable, and the people who work at night and the afternoon are extremely pleasant (the people in the morning not so much. I try the not deal with them). We just moved here from Hawaii (the people at the Navy Lodge at Ford Island are amazing all the time!!) and are waiting on our home to be ready (been here for 2 weeks leave tomorrow). I wish that the fridge was a full fridge (like Hawaii) and the kitchen a bit bigger (like Hawaii), more rooms for people who have animals (we had to put our dog up at a kennel because there were no animal rooms available, which adds up quick) and that they had suites (in Hawaii and other Navy Lodges, they have full suites that have 2 rooms, one with 2 queen size beds and the other room as a full size pull out sofa bed. Both of these rooms also have TVs. These are very nice when you are moving with 3 kids). A breakfast room would be amazing as well (this had just started in Hawaii two years ago). I have heard that they are about to do a major overhaul this summer (August of 2015, so for those of you PCS'ing this summer, be aware that you may not be able to get any kind of room) where there will be full size fridges, more animal rooms, a breakfast room with tons of options for breakfasts, and suites as well. Why they would do this is the heart of PCS seasons I don't know, but I thought I would let others know, especially if they need to find other accommodations. Oh, they are also putting a pool in; do not know if this is indoor or outdoor as they have no pool at all right now. Overall, for $75.50 a night, this is not a bad place at all. Big rooms (they gave us a room for the handicap, so our room may be bigger than others), pretty good employees (except the front desk during the day time, till 2/3pm, when the new shift comes in) & the people who clean the room are extremely nice and do a great job! read more

I don't like their cleaning service. They said they change linens every 4days. My son get sick and they never change fitted sheet and ask where did we put the fitted sheet. They took it yesterday without putting any thing in our bed. Not happy if your staying here make sure they cleaning your room and floor specially when u have dog and child. read more

Terrible customer service. I made reservations for a group, then the next day cancelled the reservation. They charged me anyway. Manager very rude. I even gave description of person on phone whom I cancelled the reservation with and she accused me of not knowing who it was without seeing the person. read more
