I rarely leave negative reviews, but after multiple attempts to resolve our concerns privately, I feel compelled to share our experience. Unfortunately, our stay was filled with several issues, beginning with being given the wrong room configuration. We reserved a king bed but were given two twin beds, and there were multiple other service and accommodation problems throughout our stay. The most disappointing part was not the mistakes themselves, but the complete lack of follow-up. I left two phone messages and sent two emails after our stay. I was repeatedly told someone would contact me, but I never received a response. For a property at this level and price point, I expected much better customer service and accountability. read more

Why did they ruin the best brunch in RI? Oh my heart was broken today. Going to the jazz brunch has been my favorite Sunday activity since moving to RI in 2022. We arrived 15 minutes before our brunch reservation and were told that they are clearing some tables and would let us know when the table was ready. When we checked back with the hostess 30 minutes later, she was so dismissive and basically said to wait or we can leave.. then we finally were led to a table next to a bucket catching water from the leaky roof and saw that the once amazing and decadent brunch was now a buffet of room temperature food.. we were do disappointed we had to throw in the towel and leave. read more

I can't say enough amazing things about this place. The location, the staff, the food, it is all superb!!! We go twice a year, for my birthday and New Years Eve. They have a salad called the OHBH, I could have it for breakfast lunch and dinner everyday!! It is amazing!! The lobster parceled with truffle sauce, to die for. New Years Eve is an experience, each year a different theme. Everyone is dressed to the nines, the champagne is flowing, music to dance to upstairs and downstairs and fireworks to ring in the new year. Yes it is pricey!!! But you get what you pay for and at the Ocean House it is all top shelf. Splurge and go, you won't regret it. You will make it a special occasion place for sure!! Can't wait to go back. We were a party of six with reservations for the Bistro dinning room. They got us in on time and the service was excellent throughout the evening. We had a great time and we thought the prices were reasonable for what we got. Apps: Octopus - Amazing flavor from the sauce and chorizo, super tender! Foie Gras Torchon: Very good, very different from what I've had at other places. Others at the table enjoyed this for the first time and they didn't know what it was. It came out chilled in a pate form Beef Tartare: Excellent flavors...this was my personal favorite app. Some bites were put on chips and some were savored without the chips. White Chowder: Delicious! You could definitely taste the flavors of smoked bacon through the cream of the chowder, plenty of flavor from the clams...we were very pleased. Meals: Steak Frites: Cooked perfectly, seared to perfection with great flavors from the hanger steak. The fries were a treat and the sauce and garnishes on the fries were fantastic. NY strip: Amazing 14oz cut, cooked perfectly. There was no better match than the red wine demi-glace...everyone loved it! The steak was tender and full of flavor. I liked it much better than the steak frites, but both were a great option. Chicken: Grilled Statler Chicken Breast were rolled up with broccolini, roasted potato and truffle -chicken jus. It was a little salty, but called for...very good dish! Sides: Mashed potatoes small side of mashed potatoes that were delicious. Broccolini- cooked perfectly and the flavors from the chili and olive oil made is a stand out! Crispy Brussels were also amazing...they were cooked perfectly and were tender and flaky with the flavors of bacon throughout. read more

My friends and I came here to have dinner at The Bistro but got here early to take pictures. Beautiful resort with great views looking over the water. You can also see Taylor Swift's house from the deck. The only complaint I have was the valet parking. The guy came up to use 3 times asking if we were still waiting for our cars which we were. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication problem because the cars are just in a lot right across from the resort but he said he was paging the guys. It took them about 20 minutes to get our cars. The guy who got one of our cars said he was never paged about the other and ran to get it. Other than that the place was stunning and staff were friendly. read more

This was our second visit to Ocean House. The first was about ten years ago and excellent in every way. This time, not so much. Just as background, we have enjoyed many five star hotels and resorts all over the world. We also dine out often and well. This visit, with another close couple, was a real mixed bag. Our suite was lovely. Clean and well appointed. It was also nosebleed expensive at $20K for three nights. Also, all meals and most activities are extra. The dining room was the biggest disappointment: the service was uneven; the menu was unimaginative; the preparation was just ok, often arriving cold. Sunday brunch, for which they were famous, was a joke. And at $45/person, highly overpriced. I don't know if OH is under the same management or ownership that was running the place ten years ago. If so, they have lapsed badly. OH is now a highly overpriced place and far removed from its storied past. read more

We had massages at the spa, the relaxation room is so beautiful. I wish they'd told us about it at the beginning, so we could enjoy the spectacular views of the ocean. My massage with Liz was one of the best I've had, she had great understanding of what was needed. We went to the bistro for dinner, which was lovely. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The service was good, I think we met everyone working in the bistro that night! Overall a great experience, I can't wait to visit in the daytime when we can enjoy the views. read more

I visit the Ocean House a few times each year. Today I stopped with a friend to get smoothies which were advertised on their website. Get there to find out. There are no smoothies but they have fresh pressed juice. Spoke to the manager, Steven who told us the menus are not updated. They're just samples but most things on the sample menu are not available. We paid $16 EACH for 5oz of juice!!! I have never paid that much for a glass of wine!!!! Steven was not very helpful or even friendly. He actually said "nice to meet you" as he walked away with his back to us. As a regular, I felt the need to share this experience. read more

We spent the weekend here recently. The spa was spectacular and the hotel is gorgeous, especially the panoramic views. That's where the good ends. The service in the restaurants was atrocious; couldn't get servers attention for 30+ minutes several times, and when he would finally come over he'd be trying to take our plates away mid bite or literally yelling at us to stop talking so he could speak. The worst part about it. My family had a suite with two rooms- one with a king bed and one with a living room including a queen size pull out sofa. The pull out sofa was literally the worst surface I have ever slept on. Giant bar coming up in the middle. I'm generally not a picky sleeper- give me any type of mattress or couch and I'm good. But this was like some kind of torture device. After several hours of pain I ended up just sleeping on the floor. Totally unacceptable when you're paying almost $2000 per night for a room. Anyway, I wouldn't go back to stay at the hotel if you paid me. read more

This review is for the Sunday Brunch only. We did not stay over. So, for the nearly $200 breakfast for two, I would say to go for the scenery and write the cuisine off as the usual overpriced hotel fare. The buffet part consisted of some decent raw bar (to which I am allergic), pastry/bread ( which I cannot eat), and a little charcuterie which was salami and cheese. I do seem to remember a full buffet at some point in the past with a really nice spread, and that's what I had in mind when booking the reservation. They also seated us in a far-off "special" room nearly by ourselves, so to access the buffet, we had to walk down a hallway, through the lobby, past the host stand, and into the main dining room where everyone else was seated--and there were empty tables. That's a lot of expensive strolling for such basic ingredients. The first and second courses are served to you but if you want dessert, you have to put your walking shoes back on. I'm glad we went, but I don't feel the need to return. Honestly, for half the cost, I would take that money over to George's of Gailee in Port Judith, Tow-Ten, or Matunuck Oyster Bar for a better meal, more choices, full service, and equally nice scenery. read more

Most tables were even better than perfect. Food was good, not great thus 4 stars. Will post eggs benedict, and fretata pics later. Pastries were good. Great value if you ate allowed to do the Ala cart, not great at $85 a person brunch but you'd have all the serving stations available to you. It's just a lot of food. $10 to park for 2 hours, That includes our tip 5+5, but you cannot stay and visit beach. Would have liked to walk on the beach during our 2 hour window. The hotel restaurant, Coast, and the loud children misbehaving in public adult spaces all through the hotel were my two main issues. My multi-course dinner at Coast was underwhelming (frankly, I wished it had ended at the first course). My first course had a hair in it and was cold (i sent it back and it was cold again). While the service was lovely, each dish lacked flavor, substance and was visually unappealing (looked like slop on a plate). Children were screaming and running around the restaurants, yet no staff member said a word. This is a safety hazard and is incredibly rude to the other adult guests, who have paid good money to relax. There are plenty of spaces for children (beach, outdoor games, etc). The walls are paper thin in the rooms so I could here a loud child all day and into the wee hours of the night. read more

I would give it zero stars if I could. We went for Mother's Day brunch and it was the worst brunch any of us had ever been to. EVER. The food was cold, terrible, lacking in flavor, and in some cases, outright undercooked. We were served a tiny, lukewarm cup of coffee at the start and not a single staff member came by to offer refills or even check in. Our water glasses were never topped up, and any attempt to flag someone down felt like an imposition. We expected a stellar culinary experience--especially given the premium pricing and the upscale location--but what we got instead was an abysmal, slapdash buffet that wouldn't be acceptable at half the price. It was clear the restaurant was banking on its ocean views and postcard-perfect setting to justify gouging people on a holiday that should feel special. But no view is good enough to make up for being treated like an afterthought. It's shameful to charge what they do while delivering such substandard food and nonexistent service. Mother's Day is a time when families come together to celebrate and create positive memories. Instead, we left disappointed, still hungry, and several hundred dollars lighter for what felt like a scam disguised as brunch. I went to the Ocean House twice and had similar experiences. So I think they are consistent. Both times the food was generally good and the service was terrible. However, the second time the pesto pasta dish was bland. Don't order this. But my rigatoni ala vodka was delicious. With respect to service, it took so long for our servers to come back in between check-ins. And the second time we sat at the bar and the restaurant was half empty. It took a solid 30 minutes to start drinking the bottle of wine we ordered. Sorry. I'm out on this place. Maybe I'll try again in a year. read more

This is a five star Hotel. If your looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy good food, peacefulness atmosphere and amazing walks on the beach than this is the hotel for you. Guests here keep to themselves for the most part which is a big deal for their higher end and famous guests who own rooms here. The restaurants are serving some fantastic meals and if you get a chance you must try their own take on lobster roll. Delicious doesn't come close to express how good it was. We wanted to take our family somewhere nice to celebrate our 40th anniversary and of course, the Ocean House came up as a first choice for all of us. Starting with the online reservations, everyone we interacted with was very helpful and accommodating. We explained that we'd wanted a table looking out on the water and we were seated at a lovely spot on one of the porches. Our waiter was gracious and competent. We were served our cocktails to begin which were enjoyable and the we were offered an amuse-bouche of smoked salmon and a spicy pepper. It was as delightful as was intended! We had the clam chowder which was delicious and the bread for the table was wonderful and plentiful! The halibut sandwiches, also great. Three in our party had the rigatoni ragu and they were very pleased with it. We also ordered the mushroom pita with tzatziki and that was also great. We were plenty full by then but had a platter with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate and two nice little cupcakes with candles. It was very sweet and a nice touch for our enjoyable celebration. It was as costly as you'd expect ($18 for the clam chowder, for example) but the food was great and the service was impeccable. We toured the grounds after and it made for a nice photo shoot. It certainly was the right choice for our event! read more

Still am completely astonished at how awful and embarrassing of an experience this was. I had taken potential clients to have drinks and something to eat at the bar. We were ignored from the second we got there- while everyone around us was given bar snacks and attention we sat for 15 minutes with empty drinks, no menus, nothing. By the time we could finally get the bartenders attention we felt as if we were annoying or wasting their time. They finally gave us menus after we had to ask but it was already past 5:30 so the bar bites were unavailable, which was what we were counting on. Our our final attempt to get one more drink we were given a held up hand and a rude dismissal stating "they will be right back" the server never came and we had to go to the host station to ask them to get us the check. The bar wasn't full, there were two couples on either side getting snacks and full immediate service...not sure if you chose service based on how people look but if not i'd love to understand why the four of us were completely shunned. The Ocean House was destination number 1 of my 40th birthday week of celebration. Arriving at the beautiful yellow coastal hotel we were greeted by an incredibly welcoming staff. The hotel is pristine and the location on the coast is absolutely breathtaking. This setting is perfect to walk along the beach or sit on one of their numerous patios while enjoying a glass of wine. The vibe of the hotel was luxurious but we did feel a bit underaged compared to the balance of the guests (and I was 40!) not at all a complaint but this does lead to a sleepier vibe at times. One aspect that was super helpful for us was that the hotel offered options for babysitting and since we brought our 2.5 year old it was extremely welcomed allowing for my wife and I to disconnect for the first time since my daughter's birth. The sitter was amazing with kids and my daughter loved her. Very sweet and qualified. To make the most of the experience we did multiple add-ons: oyster tasting experience, caviar tasting and wine tasting. These were all private and unforgettable. The selection of options combined with education and friendly hosts made these amazing private experiences. The wine tasting absolutely was the standout of the three. With this being a Relais and Chateaux property the dining experience was something we were extremely excited about and they did not disappoint. Coast specifically was amazing. Every course, wine pairing and minute was one of the best dining experiences of our lives. We loved the Ocean House. It allowed for a relaxing experience in a picturesque location. read more

it's really unfortunate how downhill this place has gone. i'm not going to sit here and act like i'm a regular but my bf is from mystic - a few min away - and even he's astonished at the terrible service. i've been here twice now, once last april and again this may and we were really disappointed with the service. now the food is still great - the shrimp cocktail and burger were an A++ but it was not a good experience. 1. 3 ppl at my table ordered prosecco, which was spilled over plates and each pour was completely different. another ordered wine and was given the last bit of an open bottle and was half of a regular pour. 2. i asked if they offered gluten free options to which they said yes. when i ordered my burger with gf bread, they said they'll check if they can do that. they never followed up. we were only told after we asked 4 separate times and after apps. 3. my dish came out and sat out for 20 minutes while we waited for the rest of our 7 party table to get their meals. when we asked why my meal came out first and why we were waiting for so long, there was no apology and they said it was because there wasn't enough room on the table to have all the dishes out at once.. huh??? then one of the servers can take my plate back and bring it out with the rest but said it as if she was doing me a favor. there were servers next to us just hanging out and laughing out loud and trying to get someones attention felt like we were bothering them. look, i'm not a huge stickler for service, sometimes it's bad and sometimes it's good but you're paying for an experience at this nice hotel and we weren't able to relax and have a good time because of it. read more

What a beautiful place!! I have driven by it many times in the past but never went in. We had a lunch reservation in the bistro yesterday. Diners were well spread out in the restaurant and even in October there were many people eating outside on the veranda. The wine list is EXTENSIVE, it is pages and pages sorted by region. We found a lovely merlot from Hudson Valley for $40 but there are some pretty expensive bottles on the list. Our waiter was very careful to be sure he knew which bottle we wanted. Lunch was mainly salads for us and they were delicious. The best part of the afternoon was walking down to the beach from the Ocean House Access path. The beach is gorgeous, even nicer than beaches on the Cape! A short walk and you will pass by Taylor Swifts sprawling home above the rocks. I can't believe I've lived in R.I. my whole life and haven't been here. It's a piece of paradise! read more

We have attended the tree-lighting/Santa arrival for years. It has always been a special event and the start of our family's holiday season. Last night (2022), however, was disappointing. In the past, it felt like a true community event. Last night had a clear "us versus them" vibe where the hotel guests were clearly preferred over community guests. In the past, friendly attentive staff served hot drinks and warm delicious cookies. Last night, the staff was surly and the cookies (bought at Costco?) were not even removed from the boxes. The velvet rope blocking the stairway to they porch acted as a visual reminder that some were not welcome. As my wife observed, the event felt "cheap" and cost-cutting efforts were everywhere. If the OH does not want (or cannot afford?) the public, perhaps do not invite them. In the past, we always brought out-of-town visitors to the Ocean House. Sadly, it feels like the OH is on a steep decline. Let's hope the ship is righted. read more

Very generous 3 stars here. This review is for a little of everything ... hotel, brunch, etc. First of all, we came on a pretty overcast weekend after a rain storm. We were a bit bummed because most of the outdoor stuff was completely closed down. Given the prices here ... there should be people on the beach still. We went to sit on the beach by the water and there were no staffers by the cabanas, etc. No towels. It wasn't even raining, just very overcast. All the cushions were soaked ... nobody bothered to take them in before the rain and then set them out after. Again ... at these prices ... no excuse. The lobby is very small and not fancy here. The hotel really needs to make note that we are in the midst of a pandemic. The small lobby was packed with people either waiting for their room to be ready, checking out or milling around after brunch. There was a harp player in the lobby and people congregated around to listen. Hello ... this is pandemic calling. Anyone home? Seriously, we couldn't wait to leave the lobby. Very close quarters to begin with but no staff members were there to keep the distancing happening. Again ... for the price, the lobby is very underwhelming. We ate Sunday brunch. First of all ... go ahead and try to call them and make a reservation. See if they pick up. In fact, if you call the property at any day, at any time ... NOBODY picks up the phone! We had our brunch set up from our reservation but we wanted to call and add a person. Impossible. We called and there is a menu where you press a button for the restaurant ... we hung up after 30 minutes on hold. So, we called the front desk. Same thing. What type of resort which charges these prices doesn't even allow it's guests to contact the property by phone? The brunch was $70 per person. Not complaining ... most of the crowd here was the 'Ritz Carlton' type of crowd. Lots of Facconable and Lilly Pulitzer clothing ... that 'air of don't care' ... everyone we saw seemed fairly well heeled. Lots of grey haired older guys holding hands with their 20 or 30 year old wives. We started off with a basket of pastries ... which seemed more like a dessert basket. Everything was sweet and jam-filled. This was just filler. The unlimited sparkling wine was a nice touch ... you had a choice of mimosas or straight up champagne. It was actually around $30 per bottle if you bought it at the store, so it wasn't the headache inducing cheap stuff. They were VERY generous about the refills ... maybe too generous actually. You then get a seafood tower with oysters, clams, shrimp and cheese and prosciutto and salami. Very good presentation ... and it's all unlimited. They will bring you small plates to refill the items that you want. The oysters were kind of a mess. It looked like they shucked them with a wood chipper. Whoever was on oyster duty that day was likely a rookie. The shrimp were medium sized and very tasty. Cheese and crackers were just blah. You get to pick a starter (Soup, salad, etc.) and a main course. The choices were very weak and limited. The menu changes weekly ... the example menu on the website was much better than actual. I got the prosciutto, fig and arugula salad. Nothing special ... in fact, had I know that there would be tons of prosciutto and cheese on the tower, I never would have ordered this. It was prosciutto overload ... and it wasn't the best prosciutto either. It kind of tasted like the packaged variety and the salad was dry. I'd have skipped this dish altogether. The main I ordered was the eggs Benedict. More ham. The eggs were perfectly poached. Everything else was lackluster and blah. Probably one of the worst eggs Benedict dishes I've ever had. It was kind of slapped together and bland. Would have been happy with just the seafood tower. The desserts were typical 'wedding food' type of desserts. Nothing amazing. The best was a mint cake pop type thing ... everything else was just a bite-sized cake laid out on a plate. We took a bite of each thing and didn't finish because they weren't that good. I'd much have preferred even really good chocolate chip cookies or a scoop of nice ice cream. Overall, the experience was okay ... not rushed ... our waiter was good except his mask and his accent made him rather hard to understand most times. He was helpful, personable and a bit on the chatty side maybe. I probably wouldn't want to make this a weekly thing. If my suggestions count for anything, it would be to skip the basket of pre-meal desserts ... not offer two courses ... make it one great main course with a few lighter things. Everything seemed to be like a ham-festival ... or at the very least meat. I probably wouldn't do the brunch again. Rooms were fantastic. Maybe more so because it was so dreary out and the beach was so understaffed, our room was like our escape. read more

Our friends made reservations for 5:30 pm on a saturday night. The drive was easy and the valet was incredibly nice and provided great service. A wedding was going on but that did not stop the waitstaff for a great dinner out! Since we got there a little earlier, we stopped and grabbed a couple of cocktails, starting with an extra dirty martini for me that was delicious. We all split a few appetizers, including the calamari, buffalo spring rolls and octopus. I didn't have any of the octopus but the portion was rather small. However there was plenty of calamari and buffalo spring roll to share! I ordered the short rib for dinner-decently priced and portion. Thanksgiving buffet was a great disappointment .The service was excellent as they had very good customer service from the beginning.However the buffet cost increased and the offerings were less than expected. The seafood station offered soggy shrimp and the oysters were not flavorful. Cheese Station much of the same the meats were good but were not restocked in a timely bases .The soup station offered lobster bisque.The soup was brown and watery not pink and creamy. The big event the buffet table mashed potatoes cold gravy thin and lack luster.The Turkey appeared to be compressed as was the ham.When I asked for the turkey drum from the beautiful big bird in front of me they said it was a model.Well I couldn't bare to eat the compressed meat I wanted turkey with texture and flavor,well not here. Off to the desert table which offered mostly apple related tarts which were dry and lacked interest.The table was loaded and looked good but the choices were not diverse. This was our third Thanksgiving buffet we liked the first two visits but this time around will be our last.Paying nearly 400$ we expected edible turkey and exceptional food.We will not recommend this place for fine dining and will not return. read more
