A crew dumped some kind of black liquid on the sidewalk next to my house. Two vehicles involved, and several people. The lettering on the side of the vehicle said "Stark Awning & Canvas". I purchased large Awaning from them with my business logo that were close to 5000. and in less than a year the fabric streaked and faded. I can't find a company to even clean them because they are afraid they won't hold up. Steve at Stark who sold them has not replied to emails and will not come out to look at them. Not too mention, they made them backwards and then had to install them backwards on the frame that I provided. I let this go because they would do nothing to correct when they delivered them. read more

I've wanted an awning over my driveway for some time now and had taken a photo of one I had seen on someone else's house over 5 years ago. When I contacted Stark and sent them photos of what I wanted, they delivered! The whole process from start to finish was the best customer service I've had in a long time, from Chad, Dylan, Hector & all the installers. I called Stark Awning with a request for a quote on some existing awnings. I was asked to take pictures and forward them, which I did. I was told that someone by the name of Andy would be calling soon. By Tuesday, the next day, I had not received a call, so I texted again. Was told that we were next on his list for appointment Thursday or Friday. Thursday afternoon, still no call. Was told that they were just so busy. My question was, too busy to pick up the phone and call with an appointment date?!! We wanted to give a Chula Vista establishment our business , but not with this horrible customer service. I have used Stark Manufacturing for a number of non-traditional jobs. They have never turned me away and always delivered a first rate job. Their staff is friendly, courteous and always helpful. When I read a low rated review it is usually attributed to a customer who is unreasonably demanding and thinks they deserve special treatment. I see their work all over the Navy Ships and Stations on the different bases in San Diego and it is always the highest quality materials and workmanship. Although I am a repeat customer, based on my last experience I suggest that anyone AVOID this business AT ALL POSSIBLE COSTS! The owner Steve is self serving, rude and has no idea what is going on in his own business.. There is no customer service to speak of. They originally sent a workman named Chad to my home to measure existing awnings for recovering. Stark made these awnings and frames years ago. Chad took measurements for existing awnings and also discussed the design of an additional awning for which he took measurements for. The only thing left was fabric selection which I had narrowed down to one of two choices. I ask to wait to pick the fabric until after I had my house painted. Chad was willing to wait, but was unable to leave me with an fabric selections etc. My complaints are: 1.) inflexible work appointment schedule: I am a school teacher so its extremely hard for me to get home before three pm. I'm told that's after the time they are willing schedule an appoint. Steve suggested that I take a day off of work to meet his workman. (The first meeting with Chad was made during spring break). Apparently the client is expected to cater to the company, and not the company to the client. 2.) Steve as company owner and the "Boss" is unaware of the work that his men are doing or what work has been done already. Steve insisted over several emails and a phone call that Chad had to come out a second time and measure the awnings for recovering. Later over the phone, Steve remarked that he already had the measurements for the existing awnings from Chad's first visit and they could start once I signed a contract and gave a deposit check. Additionally, over several emails Steve insisted that if my painter remove the fabric and the frames that the painter reinstall the frames (an understandable request) and also RESTRING the awnings so that Chad could take awning measurements. Again, Stark M. already had the measurements so there was no need to restring the fabric. My painter wasted most of a day resetting the fabric for measurements that did not need to be taken. Apparently Steve never checked with Chad. Steve doesn't know whats going on. 3.) Steve is unaware of online company representation. In our conversation Steve said I could look at the fabrics online. I could see no fabric selection page on the Stark Website. This man doesn't even know whats on his own website. If the fabric page is on another website, why hasn't this guy gotten a link put on his company's web site to the fabric sample page? He's unaware of his company's online representation. 4.) Rude behavior. The Client is expected to cater to the company. When I finally called Steve to try to find a time for Chad to come out to measure for awnings (before Steve realized he ALREADY HAD the measurements). Steve kept talking thru me, interrupting me, suggesting that I take off of work / call a substitute teacher etc etc. When I asked to speak to his boss, to make arrangements, Steve said he was boss, go try another awning company and then hung up on me. Who would want to give people like this their business? read more
