Great tour with friendly and knowledgeable staff that made my family feel at home. I got such a great feeling from this tour that I was happy to tip because the staff truly earned it. They worked hard to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves and they made it fun for the whole family. They are truly passionate about the environment and preserving the animals who live in the water and depend on a clean environment for the best quality of life and to not go extinct. We saw dauphins, Cape May, they had a horseshoe crab on board and other small sea creatures that we could touch and learn about. It was such a feel good experience. You can enjoy light refreshments and snacks onboard. The top deck is open but there's barely any shade so bring your visor or an umbrella for shade. We went out on a windy day and didn't have high hopes. We had a ball! My husband was catching fish it seemed whenever he put his line in. My daughter caught two on one cast. My son also was catching several fish. The fish they were able to keep were promptly cleaned up and bagged. We cooked it that night. The boat was clean and comfortable. Will not use this company again. My father was unaware that Groupon tickets required a reservation in advance. Instead of honoring the tickets, they insisted we pay full price for 9 people. They claimed there was no space for Groupon ticket holders, yet said they did have space if we paid full price. If the boat had truly been full, I would understand--but it clearly wasn't. That's poor customer service. This is something our family has done every year, but we'll gladly take our business to another company in the future. read more

Muggy day in Cape May so we made reservations for the Dolphin Tour! It did not disappoint. I really liked that the ticket came with pizza and hotdogs which the children enjoyed. This is our second annual fishing trip with Starlight. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The ship is so clean. Even the captain kept coming down when anchored to help out bc we were all catching so many fish. I caught 12 and my wife caught 7. My only complaint is the woman's bathroom door didn't lock and being pregnant I was a frequent visitor and had a few people open the door on me. However It was great fun and we can't wait to come back. read more

We have taken Starlight fleet tours for the last four years. Each year we take a pirate cruise which my son could never get enough of. He really loves it and was sad when we told him we were not doing it this year. This year we decided to try the dolphin tour. What an amazing experience. The staff was super informative. We saw a ton of dolphins. The person over the speaker made sure we knew where to look in order to find the dolphins. They opened a touch tank for the kids. The staff member that opened the touch tank was made to deal with kids. They gave away donuts and drinks. I heard they sold ice cream but i didn't have any. Top notch run program. There was a tip bucket. They did not ask for it over the speaker. We left them a nice tip since they earned every penny. We will definitely be back next year. Perhaps the Dolphin tour for hubby and Pirate tour for the kid. They also have a nicely renovated check in desk/mini store. Definitely an upgrade. read more

If you want an adventure on the water please look this place up! We went on the dolphin tour this morning 930-1130. We did have a Groupon so you can find them there - worth every cent!! The staff is so nice! So informative! And they have a touch tank for the kids at the end of the ride while heading back to dock. I will say I usually do this type of tour in July and have seen dolphins - but this time it's August and we saw HUNDREDS! So maybe the different month - not sure - but if you can plan ur trip for the 1st boat ride in the morning and a bonus if it's low tide you will see amazing birds as well! I've been on fishing tours before, but this place was the BEST! Captain Eric and Vito were so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful to everyone on the ship. They made you feel welcomed and comfortable the whole 4 hours. Vito even made time to serve drinks while helping everyone with their catches. This was a great experience. We went on a day where there was only 1 other family on the whole boat. It was like a private tour. Kirby was great. Very knowledgeable about the area, marine life, and how to present to a tour to the boat's patrons. We saw dolphins and followed them around to be able to get a lot of great pictures. We decided to take the Dolphin and Whale Watching tour at the last minute without really knowing much more than it was a boat trip, and thought it sounded like something interesting to do on our vacation to kill some time after checking out of our hotel on our last day. I called up the reservation line from my cell phone at the pool after looking at their website. The woman who booked us on our trip was very pleasant and had us booked on the tour in a matter of minutes. Shortly thereafter, I checked my e-mail on the phone, and had my confirmation in hand. To check in and get our tickets for the tour, I showed the woman in the gift shop the e-mail and we were on our way to the boat. The crew began boarding of the boat at about 12:15 for the 1:00 trip, and we walked up to the top deck and took our seats. We departed the dock at 1:01 and were on our way. The tour took us out of Sunset Lake, through Jarvis Sound and out to the Atlantic Ocean via the Cape May Inlet. We then toured along the coast of Cape May out to the Lighthouse at Cape May Point, where the Captain maneuvered the boat for a good bit of time and pointed out the dolphins (which can be seen in some of my photos) to us. When we first booked the trip, I was very much in it for the tour part and not so much the dolphin/whale watching. I quickly became enthused when the dolphins started leaping out of the water around the boat. It really was a great experience. After spending some time with the dolphins we headed out deeper into the ocean to look for some whales. We didn't see any, and one of the crew members mentioned that while they get dolphin sightings a good 95% of the time, they really only get a whale sighting about 30% of the time. While we were at sea searching for whales a short, small storm came in and really made the trip a bit rough. Some people were below deck throwing up. My wife and I went into the galley and bought hot dogs and drinks and rode out the roughness at a table inside while enjoying our snack and talking. We returned to the top deck as the boat entered the Cape May Canal and smoother waters, past the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, through Cape May Harbor, past the Cape May Coast Guard Station, and then back to the dock. We arrived back at the dock around 4:05. Throughout the trip the captain and crew were very attentive and helpful. The crew includes marine-biologists who are very knowledgeable about the wildlife around the island and in the ocean. The captain was very good on the microphone telling us about where we were and what was around us, along with pointing out sights and wildlife. We were very happy that we decided to take this tour. Although it did get a little rough for a bit, which I'm pretty sure you should expect while boarding a boat bound for the ocean, we had a wonderful time. read more

Always an awesome time on this ship. This was my second experience with Cape May Whale Watch and Research Center and needless to say, I was just as pleased as the first time a year and a half ago. Although we were unable to see any whales, we saw TONS of dolphins and even a mother and a baby! They were swimming right next to the boat, and a couple of them decided to put on a show and jump out of the water. A sight we all will never forget. The crew is nothing shy from great and informative. A young women guides you throughout the entire trip, and lets everyone know when something has been spotted. Towards the end of the trip, she'll come down and pass around and inform you about a Baleen Plate. Besides from being an amazing experience, with a great crew, did I mention they're dog friendly?! And, at no extra price! This is the second time I've taken my 2.5 yr old German Shepherd a long. This boat, and trip is a MUST experience. You are on the water for 3 + hours and every second is amazing. What could be better then a 3 + hour trip at an awesome price, with an awesome crew, guaranteed marine mammal sightings, and amazing photography opportunities? I used a Groupon with my friends to go on a 4 hour fishing trip, total came to about $24 per person for the 4 of us, fishing gear, bait, boat ride all included! Also, you get to bring a 6 pack PER person.. which is pretty clutch. The staff is all very nice and helpful. I was getting a wee bit buzzed on those IPAs I brought so got my line tangled the first time, and he didn't give me a hard time -- super helpful! They also were easy to find, friendly, and left right on time which I appreciated. I also caught 2 fish, and saw dolphins while on the ride out. I definitely recommend Starlight -- great staff, they know what they're doing. I'll definitely be back when the weather gets better ! PS I may be mistaken, but I didn't see any food served here -- just some canned beers and chips read more

Not impressed. The water is not even 45 feet deep, so don't expect to see a Whale as "advertised". Plenty of Dolphins if that is your goal to see. Safety is a completely different issue. Life vests are only available on the bottom level not the upper deck!!! How they can even be authorized to sail without life vests easily available on EACH level is beyond me. Boat is noisy like a tug boat. Wife and children enjoyed it, but was not nearly as nice as I hoped. The food was a joke. read more

My 12 year old son and booked this boat after our first choice had engine problems and cancelled the day before our trip. So happy we got on this trip. My son's hook wasn't in the water 5 minutes and he had already pulled in two croakers. That was just the beginning. We got a LivingSocial voucher for the 4 hour fishing trip. The regular price is $40 plus fishing rod rental fee. The voucher was $21 and came with free rod, so the deal was excellent. The entire trip was excellent and would highly recommend Starlight Fleet for anyone new to fishing. Don't expect to catch enough fish to cover the cost. You are paying for the experience. It's cheaper to buy fish at the market. The women who answered the phones are very accommodating. We had to reschedule our reservation 3 times, and they were pleasant every time. They didn't have to honor it since their website says No Changes once the booking is made. The Experience: The crew was as helpful as helpful can be. They baited the hooks, unhooked the fish when you reeled it on board, and untangle the lines when you are crossed with a fellow fisherman. Basically, you just need to drop the line and reel back in, the fun part. They give advice on how to snare a fish, and even snare one for you if they see that you are not catching any. They provide a bucket to hold your fish, though they are dead by the time the boat returns to the dock. The crew also clean and fillet your catch, and put them in a heavy duty plastic bag. Be nice and tip them well! The indoor seating area on the boat does not have air condition; the men/women bathrooms do not have running water; the snacks sold on the boat are chips, candy, soda, etc.; the boat has overhead awnings for shading, it was a scorching 97 degree sunny day, but felt comfortable at 3-4 miles out at sea. There were about 18 people on the trip, mostly guys. I counted 2 other women, plus my wife and daughter. So, it's not a Deadliest Catch atmosphere. Most everyone were newbies or occasional fishermen. The Venue: They have free parking right at the harbor literally at the front door. There is a take out canteen that serves seafood (broiled or fried), hamburgers and hot dogs. You take the food to the umbrella covered picnic tables next to the boats. Food is ok, something quick to eat. There are men/women bath rooms to wash up before and after the fishing trip. The Logistics of Getting there (coming from North or West): Be sure to add 45 minutes to 1 hour to your GPS travel time. There will be traffic on the Garden State Parkway (exit 4B) where it intersects with the Atlantic City Expressway. read more

It was a horrible experience driving 8 hours just for this tour to find out they cancelled without even informing us. We called them up 24 hours prior asking about the tour as the weather forecast was bad. We told them clearly that we will be driving 8 hours for this and do not want to waste our valuable time if there was any chance the tour was going to be cancelled. However, they said that the they will sail no matter what the weather forecast is. They also emphasized that they sail no matter rain or shine and they have my phone number on file and they will call me in case any thing changes. Some time later I also received an email from them saying that the tour was still scheduled to sail and they will inform us as soon as anything changes. However, no information came from them after that contact. After reaching there (8 hour long drive), the place was deserted. The doors were bolted shut and nobody was there. We asked a passerby if he knows about this place, he said that he hasn't seen them for 2 days and they are probably closed. Then, we called them up and at that time we were told that the dolphin tour was cancelled. We were so disappointed as this whole trip was based around this, we could have made this trip to the ocean much more happening provided we were informed in time! I don't know whatever happened to "we will let you know as soon as there is any change." Will never visit them again and would recommend looking for other cruises and tours in the area. 24 hours after this, we receive another email from the company thanking us for our visit to their cruise! That was like rubbing salt over wounds. read more

On October 10 2020 My friends and I, went fishing on the Starlight Fleet 6200 Park Boulevard in Wildwood Crest, NJ 08260. Before boarding we had our temperatures checked and also had to sign a waiver, understanding this was the rules to prevent the spread of Covid 19, however, the boat was over crowded, providing no social distancing, there was at least 75 people on the boat. My group and I had brought this to the attention of the Captain and the Mate, in regards to their flyer advertising social distancing, his response was "no big deal, once we get in the open and everyone keep their masks on it would be fine". We were very disappointed in the negligent response and actions of the Captain and the Mate. Several of us asked to be removed off the boat due to health risks. They were not concerned about the safety of the people, At 100 dollars per person, times 75 =7500. Appears they only cared about making a profit. They offered us a coupon to return another day or a 4 hour trip on a neighboring boat, at 50 dollars (part of the 100 dollars spent) that would of cost us our time, making a second trip back. That is a 2 hour drive there and back home. Why would I pay more for their negligence. I just wanted my money back. Bought a whale-watching voucher on Groupon ($20 for a $40 three-hour whale/dolphin watching cruise) and decided to try it since I was already going to be in Wildwood. We reserved the 1PM tour and called ahead to make sure the tour was still scheduled since it had been raining on and off all day. The captain warned us that we might encounter some rough seas. At one point, the waves were so rough that passengers started screaming, "Turn this boat around! We want to go home!". Needless to say, this was rather amusing. The staff on board were helpful and friendly. I liked Kirby, who (bless his heart) had to deal with the people who were puking and having panic attacks. He was cheerful and did his best to make sure everyone was comfortable and happy. We only saw about five dolphins, but it was a nice, scenic ride. The staff seemed to feel pretty bad about the rough ride and the lack of dolphins so they gave us all a voucher for a free trip next time we're in Wildwood. I enjoyed myself, but I really had to focus hard on not getting sea sick. If you can't handle boat rides, don't do this whale-watching cruise. read more

Highly recommend. The staff is great, the weather turned out wonderful, just a bit overcast. Very family oriented. We did the sunset dolphin and whale watching cruise with dinner, it was great. We did get to see dolphins, which we all love. If you're in wildwood, I highly recommend using Starlight Fleet. The only thing I would probably change is some of the food but other than that the Pina Colodas were out of this world. I give them a straight 5 stars cause they totally deserve it. Next time we plan on doing a longer night trip as 2 hours travel and 2 hrs dishing was not enough time for us. After the trio the staff helped filet the fish. We will definitely be back next year. We love the whale watching-dolphin tour portion of the dinner buffet cruise (except for the cheesy YMCA portion through the Lobster House waters). The renovation of the business's building space is spectacular! But the food menu changes, not so much. I bet Costco's happy, though, that Starlight's buffet is comprised now solely of Costco items. Having all the food on one deck instead of a buffet on each deck makes sense for consolidation, but only if the food was hot (hell, even if it was warm). But everything was cold ... even the chicken fingers and pigs in the blanket. Hubby said the "prime rib" (which it wasn't ... it was roast beef at best) tasted old. And if you're a vegetarian, you're screwed. Nada for you. And the beer was warm. Looks like after 5 years we won't be doing the dinner cruise anymore, opting instead for the straight whale watching/dolphin tour. Shame, as this had become a late August tradition for us. :( read more
