As we went to the room, there was a sign on the door indicating the room was occupied. I was surprised and ended up going back to the lobby to see what happened. It turns out that the app was glitchy and we were put in a different room number. The lady behind the counter made adjustments and we were able to stay on the same floor as what I originally picked, but in a different room. The room had a king bed, a fridge, microwave, a TV, drawers, and a bathroom with a shower. It was very clean. We got two drink vouchers to redeem at the lobby/pool bar, which was a plus, to enjoy while we were at the pool. The hotel has a fitness center as well. The continental breakfast provided a selection of coffee and juices for the beverages. The food items consisted of a waffle bar, different types of pastries, and breakfast foods to choose from. They offered a little more than some of the other locations I have been at.

Walking distance to a Publix, the mall, bakery, etc. The hotel checkin is on the 6th floor, the first floor is mainly a seating area and concierge. They offer free hot breakfast, mini fridge and microwave in the room, cruise shuttle at time of this review is priced at $12 with pick up times at 10a, 11a, and 12p. If you miss breakfast, they had breakfast bags with fruit and other grab and go items. You will need your room key to access the laundry room and guest floors. There is no carpet in the room I was in (basic king- not the elite level) and pets are not allowed. Service animals only. The hotel has a lobby bar, three restaurants are located right next door (Sproutz, Batch Gastropub, and Shahs of Kabob). I dined at Sproutz and Shahas of Kabob and both are good, but they are not affiliated with the hotel. I stayed 3 nights prior to my cruise and I really enjoyed my stay. The air conditioner worked with no issues, pillows are very soft, bed was firm, but not uncomfortable and I slept better in that bed, than my own. There is a master light switch to control the overhead light in the entry and bathroom. You can operate them separately (it just takes some flipping of lights to figure it out). Decent water pressure and nice, hot water at night. Morning time I suggest getting your shower in early. Hot water is still present but not as hot as it was the night before. Tip- I took my shower at 5/6am the morning of checkout and the water was hot and perfect for a nice shower before leaving for cruise. Staff was always smiling, friendly and willing to assist. Carlos at the concerige desk is very helpful, ask for his recommendations and he is more than happy to assist. The 7th floor has the laundry facility, but many machines were out of order. This is going on my pre cruise hotel list because it was the perfect hotel and the perfect location. It was about a 15min ride to the cruise port and airport. Only complaint would be the construction, it was happening on the side of the building, which was pretty loud by the pool area. The massage was great, it was a bit weird that we had to walk in our robes to the other building and then taken to the massage rooms. However the massage was great, they had complimentary teas and snacks. The check out process went smoothly as well and they were able to hold our luggage for a while we did some shopping due to a delay in our flight.

This hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport (MIA) and about 30 minutes from the cruise ports. It's about $40 Lyft ride each segment. Sure there are closer hotels to the airport and port but what I was looking for staying here was a hotel with large rooms, quiet safer area, near shopping and restaurants and a place for breakfast in the lobby that had a decent review rating. The Dadeland Mall is 2 miles away and we had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory the night before the cruise which worked out well and there was also a Publix supermarket across from the mall to load up on things we needed for the cruise that we forgot and even get some water and yogurt and fruit for the morning. Perfect location for before a Cruise--I would definitely stay in this location again before a Cruise. And if you get sick in Miami--you are next door to a major medical complex and emergency room--Perfect! The hotel is older, the rooms are somewhat worn, but not that bad. Bathrooms have been modernized. Rooms are large by today's standards, clean, quiet. There was a key full service Starbucks in the lobby that was perfect for a quick brunch before getting in the Lyft to the Port. I ordered extra towels to the room and they came within 15 minutes. I used the Hilton App to access the elevator and room door without having to check in. There are large conference facilities here too. The pickup and drop-off areas at the entrance are covered. They have a pool and spa I did not have time to use. There is also a large lake outside that my friend says has Alligators if you like to play with them. Here is the reason I only gave them 4-stars and may not stay here again: The shower. After my 15 minute shower the bathroom floor had almost an inch of water in the section near the sink and it took me 5+ towel ring outs and a lot of work to clean it up. The shower door has gaps and when someone takes a shower it soaks the bathroom floor. Addressing this with the staff they can't replicate it because when they tell maintenance or housekeeping to check on a guest complaint that the shower floods the bathroom floor all they do is run the shower and everything is fine. It's only when you actually put a body into the shower for 15 minutes and the water runs off a body onto the walls and glass doors does the water flow in a way that it escapes the gaps. So the problem never gets solved because neither housekeeping or the maintenance man is going to take a full shower to see what happens. Just a note--which is prevalent at most hotels: The water and other things in their shop are super expensive--think ball park prices like $8.00 for a bottle of water. $5.00 for a candy bar. Buy somewhere else if possible.

The base price room was spacious and mostly clean with a separate shower and tub. The bad- the service wasn't great here. I felt like anytime I needed something I had to ask 3-4 times before staff would remember (including freebies that were part of the room rate). The one time I asked a concierge for assistance he was super brash telling me to go talk to the front desk. The property felt old and in need of a renovation (again it's being demolished so not surprising in that context). Also, a lot of the ads for the resort promote its beach which no longer exists- it's now a model home for the condos going in. The hotel is pricey and gratuity is auto-included at 20% for everything which would be fine if the service was better and they didn't ask for additional tip on top of it. I wish I stayed here 20+ years ago because it felt like in its hay day this was a swanky hotel. Today, it's tired, on its last months, and the staff really don't seem like 5-star talent (as a benefit to the doubt most people would be unmotivated if things were shutting down too). Part of me is excited to try the new hotel whenever it opens, part of me wonders if the poor service is just part of the brand. Unfortunately, much of the rest of the stay was frustrating from the start. Finding where to check in is confusing at first, and before arrival I called to ask if early check-in might be available. I explained that if a room wasn't ready, I'd spend time elsewhere before coming to the hotel. I was told they could not tell me unless I appeared in person, which served no practical purpose and was incredibly annoying. Even then, when I returned by 3:30 p.m. there was no room anyway and we sat in the tiny lobby with our bags. The front desk service was average at best. Not rude, but not welcoming either. I genuinely felt more tolerated than helped, and eventually just avoided interacting with them. I wasn't even told about any amenity they offered or even where the elevators were. Just got my key handed to me - not even telling me my room number. Having spent years working in hospitality many years ago this level of "service" stood out in a bad way. Also, the room layout is one of the strangest I've seen: The sink sits in the middle of the room rather than in the bathroom, so using it at night wakes anyone sleeping. The bathroom has a sliding door (not a pocket door) that remains partially open, and you can literally see the toilet from the bedroom. Privacy is almost nonexistent. Going to the bathroom is basically a team sport. Trash cans have no liners, and when we requested bags they were delivered but not installed. Housekeeping was inconsistent and usually incomplete. The bath mat was routinely left inside the shower, meaning turning on the water could soak it before you even stepped in. The housekeeping staff themselves weren't unfriendly, but they often stood in the hallway having loud conversations, which was disruptive. When you walk by the housekeeping team start doing random things like dusting signage so it seemed they were busy. One true bright spot: the bartender Jocelyn. She was fantastic, welcoming, and made excellent drinks (the Nutella martini is outstanding). Unfortunately, even that was dampened by an automatic 18% gratuity added to the bar bill. I normally tip 20% anyway, but a business deciding that I am going to tip and also the tip amount without clear advance notice is inappropriate and leaves a bad impression. Overall, the hotel feels highly overrated. The location is excellent, but the service, layout, and operational issues made the stay more frustrating than relaxing. I would stay somewhere else next time and simply come back to the bar which ironically the best part of the property.

The staff were absolutely amazing. I called front desk for one item and they sent someone immediately to assist me. Their overall service exceeded my expectations! I'm also an AMEX platinum member and valued the room upgrade and hotel credits I received. I enjoyed all of the amenities from reserving a massage (highly recommend this), to ordering room service for breakfast (which was really good), to enjoying their outdoor pool area (which had a beautiful view and cabanas).
