Soulless and cowardly would be the two words that come to mind first. Executives sitting on a perch not to be disturbed. A staff with horrible PR skills. How do you end a call with "try to have a better day" with someone who just lost a love one? A tour director that is taking the easy way out by calling a guest instead of the family directly to have a conversation. My mother booked a bus tour/Norwegian Cruise tour with a group of old friends that was supposed to leave in September. Sadly, my mother recently passed away, but during the fight of her life she "missed" the cancellation day for Starr tours. Under these extenuating circumstances you would think a company would put people over profits. Not Starr tours. They are doubling down. When I called to plead with them a woman named Sandy kept referring to their policy instead of having compassion. She kept passing the buck saying it's not in her "scope" to make those kinds of decisions. When I asked to speak to someone who can make those decisions she decided to shield her bosses and say they aren't available. All she could end the conversation with was "try to have a better day." It was a cold conversation. Try to have a better day? I don't know how these people sleep at night. I hope their money keeps them warm at night. BTW Norwegian has a 30 day cancellation policy, so they have a chance to get money back out of this, but they clearly aren't working hard enough. I decided to take a trip to their company building to plead with them further. Sandy answered the door and reluctantly let me in after realizing who I was. I gave a copy of the death certificate and once again pleaded my case. I was given the same lip service, but that the person who could help me further wouldn't be in for the rest of the week. I patiently waited for a phone call from a Chris and still haven't received a call. If it's the same person this Chris called my mothers friend on the trip instead of me to let her know she would have to pay extra (over $1,300) for single occupancy on the trip OR we would have to find someone to buy my mothers trip (around $1,800). NO phone call to me as of yet. Also how do you do this to a grieving friend? They were friends for almost 60 years! How can these people be so cowardly? Where is the compassion? In the last few weeks I have had to deal with the unexpected loss of my mother and all of the funeral plans. Spending countless hours of time making the calls to various places to make them aware of her death and this company has the guts to do this. In the bio of the company the owner Sandy sounded so relatable. Her and her husband Pete had to fight, scratch and claw to keep their livelihood and company that her father built from the ground up alive during the pandemic. My mother fought so hard to save her life. I'm so sorry she couldn't call your company on time because she was too busy trying to live. In business you can't always point to policy. Beyond policy, how can you treat people like this and think it's ok? I hope the owner reads and fixes this because the staff is only making a terrible tragedy even worse! Don't force a grieving family to have to peddle my mothers trip. Do the RIGHT thing. Truly heartless and painful experience! read more

I wrote previous review on how a staff member wanted me to travel quite a distance to get the bus for my Greek trip. A lady from start called me and said it was only 20 minutes away..I also sent her a photo text of map showing it wasn't. She has agreed to come to the original pick up location which we greatly appreciate. So thank you starr you!!! We'll be giving a review on Greek cruise!!! I'm sure it will be fabulous!! I've have gone on several short trips, as well as the Cross Country Trip in September. My sister and I enjoyed the trip tremendously! Our tour guide Gene was an awesome organizer and excellent commander of everything to see and do on this 28 day trip across the country. Gene also provided music and played videos that were a part of our itinerary. And our bus driver Fernando kept us save and on time for all our destinations. We met so many wonderful people on the tour. And the locations were breathtaking. Sedona, Arizona was my favorite. Starr Tours is an amazing company. These guys have the most inconsiderate bus drivers I've ever seen. Three buses stopped by the hotel I was at, and instead of loading in the loading zone, they parked their buses perpendicular to normal car parking and then started pulling bags off and piling them up next to the bus (see photo below, where you can see the first car waiting to get out). This blocked anyone else from being able to get in or out of the hotel for nearly an entire hour. After unloading half of their bags (and no people), they stopped doing anything and just sat there. After the hotel staff talked to them, they drove the buses to a loading area and started unloading people, leaving a bunch of bags blocking about 20-30 cars from being able to get in or out for another half hour. That beats blocking everyone in the hotel, but you have a problem when the best thing you can say is that there was a half hour period where they only blocked 20-30 cars from being able to move. read more

We took the Starr bus tour to Nashville and Memphis. The included meal deals were very lackluster. One "lunch" was a convenience store where there was absolutely no seating. We could either stand and eat or eat in the bus. Some were using storage boxes for tables in the store.The bus had no seat trays or storage pockets. The tour guide kept playing music selections, blastingly loud, like he was a disc jockey. One morning we returned to our bus seats to find them freshly wet from just-sprayed Febreze. The smell permeated our clothes the whole rest of the day. Why didn't they do that the night before? A lady at the front of our bus was coughing the whole last part of the trip. My wife came down with Covid a few days after we got back. I gave the review 2 stars because Memphis and Nashville were enjoyable, but the means to get there and back - no thank-you. On a bus with NO trays or side pockets, everything we got at rest stopovers had to be balanced on our laps or wedged between us and the fixtures. I was actually so, so glad when we got home. read more

I have taken several trips with Starr Tours. They hire locals to take you around a day or two to explain the area and history. These people are very knowledgeable and makes an interesting tour. Starr tries to come up with a variety of activities. The 3 to 4 day tours usually include a boat ride a wine tasting and a tour of a house or museum. Their tours are geared for seniors. The only problem I have with Starr is they only allow an hour to see a house or a museum. It's not enough time especially if the house you are touring has a beautiful garden. No time to see both. Since I love gardening as much as history and artecture it has caused a problem - and forget about checking out the gift shop at these places to take stuff home - not enough time. The tour people that accompanied us to and from these trips are not flexible. They stick to the one hour for each activity. Then after rushing out of the home or museum we have blocks of time to do nothing but hang out at our hotel. My suggestion to you is if you book a tour ask how long the stop to each place you are interested in is going to be. They don't put this in their tour book. When I called and complained when I saw a pattern over and over - I was told we can't give you the times of each activity. I said I wasn't asking that. I was asking if you have only a house tour scheduled for the whole day on a tour - how long will you have to explore the house and gardens? Will it be one hour? Because I'm not going to be interested in going. It's a tease. read more

STARR Bus and Rally needs to do the RIGHT THING by their customers and issue refunds if needed, While we are in EXTENUATING circumstances, and a customer requests a refund in response the the forced changes (where a 1 week break turns into 4 or more weeks with online classes), it is impossible for some students to carry the volume of materials needed half a mile to a bus stop and get on a bus! Your patronizing response to send a link to your cancellation policy is appalling, Do the right thing, and issue a refund, in this circumstance, if requested by your customer. read more

I took a Starr bus down to Washington DC recently. I was so impressed! The bus was clean and comfortable. The electrical outlets worked. Everything went exactly on schedule. I was so impressed with our driver. He was courteous and safe. But best of all he managed to avoid a lot of traffic, and got us closer to our destination than we were expecting by using some (legal) back roads. read more

This company has the worst drivers I met possible. One in particular Jose Santiago he was very nasty, he started complaining the minute he walked into the hotel about not being able to walk from the bus up to the front door. He started saying he served in the military and he needs front door service. He needs to be fired immediately. Supposedly he runs the drivers but he thinks in his mind he runs everyone around him. I will never recommend this company to anymore for nothing, and I will continue to bash his name until we meet again. Just got back from Gloucester and Salem trip. Most of the trip was good but the last day of the trip was a disaster. We learned that they supposedly were giving us bonus stops at Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution. Well it was all because we were coordinating with another bus and had to be on the same schedule as the other bus. We got to Bunker Hill at 9 am and the museum did not open until 10. Then went on to USS Constitution. From there we were headed to Mystic Village. We were given 1 1/2 hour at Mystic Village to eat lunch and shop. We were then on the bus from 2:30 - 8:30 with only a 20 minute stop at rest stop to "pee and flee" as the tour director told us. We were reminded numerous times that the other bus was ahead of us and that we were tying them up. The bus that we were coordinating with was a 3 day Boston tour and we were the 4 day tour. Seems to me Starr should have been accommodating us!! read more

I chartered Starr Tours to take my group to Washington, DC African American Museum at the Smithsonian. Walt, the bus driver was EXCELLENT but the group leader Randi was anything but Customer service plus. I paid for the free tickets to the museum up front before they would consider validating my tour. Then when I didn't meet the 55 seats I thought I would fill I was changed again for the tickets because the seats weren't sold. I paid for 34 adults and 2 children. My balance was $0.00. Then 4 more people wanted to go I paid for them what I was charged, after paying she said I paid to much I was owed $14 refund, when I received the invoice it said I owed $15.45. I called her she said she would check then she called me and I told me I owed $46.46 I lost it. When I calmed down and she suggested I talk to accounting, I told her I didn't want to talk to anyone else just tell me what you think I owe, I will pay NEVER to deal with Starr Tours again, she hung up on me. I reported it to her manager Sandy to no aviail. She informed me that I had to pay it prior to my bus trip which was that Saturday this was Tuesday. Even the directions I gave to Randi for the bus to pick us up she keep printing it wrong on my invoice when I told her it was incorrect she told me she had told the bus driver the correct address BUT she didn't. I had to have one of my clients to show him where to come. I wasn't going to do anything to keep my clients from enjoying the trip to DC. Thank God they had a wonderful time but it wasn't because this company did the right thing by me. I've been in travel agent for over 20 years and I never dis-respected any of my clients. i have traveled with starr tours many times over the years and the service and trips were great--i went on a cruise to canada in 2015 and i must admit it was terrible from the beginning-i traveled alone-i had a room alone and was never in touch with the representative the entire trip-i was entirely alone and then when re arrived back to new york, i had to pick up my own suitcase-i use a walker and drag it to the starr tour bus which was a block away-everyone was already on the bus-they wondered where i was-it was a terrible trip-will not be doing starr tours again---- read more

Have taken both one day & multi day tours with them. They have many different tours all of which we found very enjoyable. The tour operators and the bus drivers have always been very helpful and they stay at very nice hotels/motels. Not fancy, but comfortable and clean hotels. Best of all NO HASSEL W/ AIRPLANES. We pick up the bus about 15 min. from our home and they do all the driving. Stops many times along the way for rest stops and snacks; making it very comfortable. We have a multi day tour planned with them in 2013 and am looking forward to it. read more

We were very happy with the bus we rented for our wedding to bring guest from the hotel to the venue and back again in the Princeton area. The price was the most reasonable we found, the office staff was friendly and helpful, the bus was clean and large enough, and the driver was punctual, kind, and patient with partying wedding guests. We were very pleased with the service and it was nice to not have to worry about something going wrong with the guests getting to where they needed to be on time. Worst experience with Starr Tours. Husband and I were to go to Assateague Island for the day. Main purpose was to take a boat tour around the island to see the horses. Now 2 days prior, Hurricane Harvey was supposed to bring rain and thunderstorm along the coast. I called and questioned if the trip was still on. We will let you know tomorrow. I called that Friday and was surprised to hear the trip was still on. Why? It's supposed to have heavy rain. Now I can read a radar and saw it was supposed to rain all day. What did they think was going to happen? I know they didn't want to lose any money. Period. So we were picked up in Hamilton Nj and then we had 2 more pick ups. Which meant we were riding for 2 solid hours doing nothing. It took approximately 3 hours down to Assateague which meant we were on the bus 5 hours! So we get to our lunch at a restaurant which was actually good. They tell us we have a window opportunity to go on the boat. I look out and it's raining. Really? We get to the dock and the "skipper" recommended not to go due to the choppy water and rain. Well well, surprise surprise. I called this 2 days ago. So our leader, Gene who was great and Hank our driver tried their best to make the day. We did a drive by at the Wildlife Preserve and did take couple pictures of few horses that were on the road. Then went to Ocean City boardwalk for one hour. In the rain. Oh, and then to add insult to injury, we are getting reimbursed for $20 since we didn't take the boat ride. Really? A measly $20 bucks. And I know the boat ride is more than that. I would never take this tour again. I'd rather drive. Sandy, if you read this, you need to do a better job with your company. You are getting horrible reviews lately. Oh because our driver was starting to meet the hours limited to legal hours, we had to change drivers on the first drop off. Thanks Gene for being a great leader and Hank for the driving around that you did. Oh if you do book a trip, take out the insurance. Because apparently they don't have common sense to cancel an outdoor trip during a heavy rain. read more

We have taken a 5 day bus tour with Starr to Canada which was great. This past year we booked an Alaskan Cruise with them which we loved, however the tour guide/director was an issue at times. We now have booked a New England/Canada cruise with them that if it were up to me alone I'd cancel. Don't ever think the catalog price for a trip is a good deal. The extra charges they add on to these trips are ridiculous. I did a mock booking on the Carnival site for the same cruise, same cabin rate and added taxes and port fees ($427.20) and came out with a cost of $1505.20 for a couple. With Starr, same trip, same room rate $1825.28 (added fees of $745.38) A $318. difference. Ok, so Starr is giving us a $100.00 OBC, big deal, we are paying for it...they are giving us transport to pier, again with over 700. in charges we are actually paying for it. If you want to pay less, book directly with the cruise line and pay a friend to take you to and from the port. Don't believe the Starr Catalog price is a good deal, it really isn't. read more
