Street parking was a bit challenging to find on the weekend but we made it work. Service was quick. Lots of board games located on a shelf near the main entrance .The beer I tasted was pretty good. Not great, but good. The roof top was a vibe and also allowed us to see a great view of the city at night. Would definitely come back to hang out here! Love this brewery! Went this weekend with friends. We went to the rooftop to have casual drinks and it was so fun, the view is amazing. We went during sunset and you see all of Scott's Addition! the drinks are yummy, they offer a lot of unique tasty different kinds of beers. The bartender was really kind and helped us pick drinks. They also have tons of other special events that cater to most interests, so there's always something to do. I went to Starr Hill on a Friday evening and got a flight of five($21). My favorite from the flight were the Lady Mariko and Cecilia. They have a small stage for bands to perform on the first floor and a nice rooftop area on the roof. They weren't too busy when I went so it felt quite relaxed. The girl that used to run things is gone and things do not seem to be running as smoothly, especially at Mug Club events. Star Hill recently started serving food, but it doesn't look very good. I LOVE Star Hill! It's a very cool vibe and has a great rooftop bar with a super pretty view. It's in Scott's Addition and I saw that they had a lot of cool activities that they do! Went to Home Grown Trivia and was surprised to learn that Starr Hill is one of the only breweries that has trivia on Mondays in Scott's Addition. That being said, this trivia is well attended - if you have a big group you better get there early to secure a table. There's no shortage of bar seats for couples, however. Starr Hill is a fun place. It has good beer and an even better ambience. I'm not a beer person and I always find a drink that I enjoy here. They host some of the best events in Scott's Addition. My all time favorite event is their monthly Drag Bingo hosted by Michelle Livigne and Wette Midler. Starr Hill also does a great movie series during the holidays and has a running club. The rooftop is reason enough to keep returning here. Something about it really captures that local RVA beer scene for me while also having an air of familiarity (even if it's your first time there). It's comforting and the place you want to be. They also host yummy food trucks! I usually go for sours or lighter beers when I'm at breweries. The Drama Queen and Miley are two I like a lot. If you don't like beer they also offer a hard seltzer! When you're in Scott's Addition, Starr Hill is a great stop for your brewery hop. It's especially pretty during sunset. read more

10/10 recommend the Virginia Peach beer. Was like drinking an alcohol-infused peach ring! Setup is great - has a small stage for performances, big TVs (for sports, movies, etc. - see below) and honestly just a great lively vibe. Plenty of seating - cool merch and even had some artists/vendors setup the night we went! My ONLY complaint - and this is not really their fault - is we went on a night where they were showing a horror movie... and I kid you not, the ENTIRE bar was full of people INTENSELY watching this movie, even the bartenders... so we scrambled upstairs as to not disturb them after we ordered our drinks LOL - had a nice upstairs area with a covered/heated portion that we sat in. There's a bar there too and rooftop tables that I am sure are bustling in the summer. Finally, a brewery with multiple goses & sours! I'm not a fan of typical beer, so when I go to a brewery I look out for the one gose/sour. I was happy when I arrived at Starr hill and saw a whole section dedicated to it! Naturally, I ordered myself a flight. Flights here are based on what drinks you get, it's not a set price. I ended up paying about $13 for the 2 sours & 2 goses. They all tasted really good. Service was great, the atmosphere was a bit different. Probably the only brewery in town without board games, but I liked it. We went to the roof for a bit just to see, but there isn't really a view. TLDR: great vibes and aesthetic, ok beer? Let me preface this by saying I'm not a beer person. However even though I don't like beer I would still come here just for the vibes. The open space inside is very clean and aesthetic. We weren't able to really look around the rooftop because it was reserved for a corporate event but it did seem very nice. We got a beer flight but while it wasn't overly expensive I thought that the amounts for each cup were a little light. So I have been to Starr Hill in Crozet and it was one of the best brewery experiences I ever had. Amazing beer, friendly service, great atmosphere. I was looking forward to trying the Richmond location since it's about an hour closer to where I live. I entered on New Year's Day and of course they were socially distancing; they had about 15 to 20 tables available inside. I was by myself so I was given a smaller table. I got a flight of 4 and the Day Tripa, their triple IPA packed a nice punch. Very strong without tasting too heavy. What was really aggravating to me was the décor. This particular location has chosen to make some of their atmosphere politically focused towards one particular side. Obviously I can't go into much more detail or I will get ripped for it, but the point is between the shirts the signs and... wall decorations in a corner, it was not something that I appreciated. Prices were pretty reasonable, cheaper than beer at comparable places back home in Nevada. They had a decent selection but not the biggest selection I've ever seen. Bartenders were quick. They were showing the Redskins on TV. It seemed like this isn't a place people go to watch sports as much as hang out and socialize. When I think of a brewery I think a casual atmosphere with a few guys wearing flannel shirts who have thick lumberjack beards or finely groomed mustaches sitting around on purposely mismatched chairs playing board 15 year old board games that were stained yellow by the cigarette smoke of someone's great uncle twice removed. I hear ambient music that has a sort of electronic rhythm, a solid beat and maybe even some gibberish words. Starr Hill is not your average brewery I went on their opening day and it was more crowded than I have ever seen a brewery in Scott's Addition. The line to get a beer took nearly 10 minutes to get through and the menus were not visible until it was time to order. They had a good selection of beers broken down into flavors so it was easy to find something I liked. Once I got my beer I struggled to find a place to stand. While there are lots of tables downstairs, there was barely even standing room so I decided to check out the roof. The roof was not much better as it was just as crowded. There are heaters on the roof, another couple bathrooms and another bar. Additionally inside they do sell some nuts and light snacks, beer by the case and grower fills. Overall I would like to check out Starr Hill again to see if the crowds die down. If it stays this packed then I think I'll have to write it off. read more
