This response is in regard to the owner's comment on my original Yelp review. To clarify the situation: based on the email communication, I was led to believe that because chocolate‑iced cupcakes could not be dyed, all cupcakes would be made in vanilla to achieve the pink and blue theme. I am fully willing to acknowledge that there may have been a miscommunication; however, the owner has shown no willingness to do the same. For accuracy, at no point did I raise my voice, become confrontational, or request a discount or refund. My only comment at pickup was, "Oh, they were supposed to be all pink and blue." I simply posted a review afterward. The issue escalated only because the staff member responded curtly with "No, ma'am," rather than offering any kindness or explanation. Had the interaction been handled politely, I would not have felt the need to leave a negative review. Additionally, I want to note that the owner has since emailed me privately and now posts a reply after significant time has passed. This was my first time here. I came on a Tuesday. They are closed Saturday and Sunday. The vegan cupcakes were very dry. I am guessing they were made last week and refrigerated. My husband and I stopped here today after reading the great reviews. We have been tricked by the rave reviews of other places before, but this bakery lived up to the hype. The bakery is eclectic and fun. The flavors and themes for Christmas were cute and fun. I tried a plain vanilla cupcake, the Grinch cupcake, and a cupcake with eggnog buttercream. All three cupcakes were very good. The icing was the correct texture and the flavors were on point. The cupcakes themselves were also moist and well made. Overall this is our favorite bakery in Maryland, although it doesn't live up to some of our favorite bakeries privately owned nationwide. read more

Had a sweet tooth craving and after the reco of my coworker informing me of this establishment being on Cake Wars my tastebuds compelled me to check them out. Located in a outdoor mini mall area you could easily not notice it's presence unless your a regular. However, inside is a cake wonder land filled with a smorgasbord of sugary samples sprinkled around the shop that would satisfy any sweet thooth. Say that 3x's fast I dare ya. I keep my focus as I eyed the many deserts and finally narrowed it down to cup cakes. They have many different varieties and sizes. The larger cupcakes has creme filling which really drew my attention. They had to be the size of a Baseball! The presentation is great as they all looked so delicious but decided on a red velvet and chocolate cupcake. I could hardly wait as the kind attendant bagged them up. Where the issue is for me after I decided to snag a little bite during work was that the cup cake was cold so cold the frosting was crusted like if you leave it out too long uncovered. My imagination of the fork carving through a fluffy moist cup cake was shattered. So I decided to let it get room temp to see what happens. Got home and for dinner decided to try again because moms didn't raise no quitter. This time the icing was room temp , the fork went through the cup cake , the cake was moist nooooooooooooo. The cake was very dry and the filling inside I didn't see until I got mid way through the cup cake which wasn't much. All in all it looked beautiful the cost really isn't bad about less than/ or $3 per creme filled cupcake. The regular sized ones are less than that. But the crusted icing and dry cupcake left a bad taste. I'm willing to try some other cupcakes just the ones that aren't refrigerated. read more

I recently had them make 3 cakes for my wedding party and while the design of 2 of the cakes wasn't what I expected, they were quick to remedy the situation the best they could. They offer a variety of desserts, such as cheesecakes, vegan/GF options, cupcakes, plated desserts, cookies, biscotti, muffins, scones, cinnamon rolls, hot/cold beverages, sandwiches, and custom-order cakes. I tried their Peanut Butter Brownie mini cheesecake (this was soft and delicate, and the peanut butter taste was the mini pb chips that decorated the top); a Mahoo Wahoo cupcake (Kona coffee chocolate with espresso glaze and espresso buttercream; this was actually featured on the 'Cupcake Wars' - while tasting the best out of the 3 cupcakes that were ordered, it was a little dry and not at all sweet), VooDoo cupcake (caramel espresso; there was hardly any caramel or espresso taste to this one; super bland), and a Lemon cupcake (also no taste and no hint of lemon flavor). The hubs ordered some sugar cookies (one rainbow and one blue sugar), and while he thought they were okay, I thought they tasted kind of stale and off! I really liked the look of the bakery, as it was a mix of vibrant purples and blacks, retro, and punk, all rolled into one - a cute little vintage stove with little baskets of packaged cookies and biscottis on display. Service was a little standoffish. There are also a handful of tables inside where you can enjoy your food, but we had ours to-go. I had my wedding this weekend (11/18/17) and got a dessert bar with Starry Night. First and foremost, the owner Shannon was absolutely lovely to work with. When I went in for a tasting she gave me so many wonderful suggestions that the guests ended up loving. I have celiac disease as does my grandpa and aunt and the gluten free cupcakes were perfection. I can't imagine how good the regular cupcakes for the guests tasted. We also got 4 types of mini pies, cannolis, and chocolate chip cookies that people went nuts for. I had so many people ask who the vendor was so they could visit their shop. On top of it the display looked adorable. I wish my wedding photos were in so I could post a better picture of the display. Sometimes you forget to review places because you just assume people know. I originally found this place when I was the FedEx driver in 2010-11 and I was sold then. I have tried almost everything and I had them do my wedding as well. I continue to use starry night do cookie platters, cupcakes, and anything else special for get togethers or gifts. Attempted strawberry shortcake but it had molded strawberries, leaving me to believe they don't check refrigerator frequently. It was also confirmed since items are not dated in the refrigerator. The bakery did not have that sweet bakery smell. Another sign was the bakery itself was empty on a Saturday. I have enjoyed a variety of drinks and treats over the years and I have had custom cake orders made several times and I have never been dissapointed by Shannon and her team. My latest custom order was a 1St Birthday cake and smash cake for my son's Where the Wild Things Are themed party. I gave them my budget, theme, and complete artistic freedom. Starry Night Bakery is a pretty nice coffee house. The outside feel of the place isn't very charming. It's located in a strip mall. The inside is very spacious and relaxing. There are different couches and tables to sit at. I don't recall what kind of music is played, but I do remember thinking that the place was awkwardly silent on a couple of occasions. The smoothies are pretty good. If you ask, they can be made vegan. They almost always have a nice little selection of vegan baked goods, which is rarity in Carroll County, Maryland. Had a chocolate eclair and a mini raspberry cheesecake. Eclair was ok but the frosting on top was so thick and heavy that I removed it completely. It was a lot. The mini cheesecake was so overbooked that it was like trying to chew and eat rubber . There was no taste whatsoever. That said the bakery was super cute and looked cozy to hang out in. It has a knickknacky vibe similar to that of the paper moon diner in Baltimore, but the kitsch is cute. I came in here the other day for a cupcake and drink with a friend - my pomegranate iced tea was refreshing and tasty, and my cupcake was just delicious. As a baker myself, I wouldn't say that their cupcakes are HOLY GRAIL status or anything - I've had better cupcakes at other bakeries, and even from my own oven (on a good day!) - but they are still delicious, and their flavor combinations are incredibly clever. This bakery was AMAZING to work with, especially after having a horrific wedding cake experience with another bakery that almost permanently swore me off of bakeries!!! My husband's 30th party was at a private arcade 2 hours away, with 16 people in attendance. I drew up all details of the cake ahead of time and went in two weeks before the party to meet with them. The cake I drew was EXTREMELY detailed and complex (we had batman fighting spider man, spok fighting a tmnt, a hobbit, mario touches, my husband coming out of a mario land pipe with the theme "awesome" written in stars below him, pacman, tetris on one side, sonic the hedge hog on another side, space invaders on another side, and spider mans' sky line on the last side. We also had battle ship pieces on the bottom board with tiger shark planes flying over, an MORE!!!). They took it head on, listened to me intently, explained to me how they would create some of the details to lower cost (which didn't matter to me, but the fact that they did that was impressive and avoided any disappointment I might have had), the price was less than I had accounted for, and I left feeling confident in the outcome! It was two tiered, with the top a peanut cake with chocolate ganache and the bottom a chocolate cake with peanut ganache. At the party, we got raving comments on the look and flavor of the cake. The only disappointments I had were that, although yummy, the bottom tier tasted like chocolate and vanilla, not peanut butter :/ I also was hoping they could make mini lego cakes for our vegan and gluten-intolerant friends, but they were unable to do that so I had to. We will be going back for EVERY SINGLE cake we ever need. I absolutely LOVE this bakery. I called about a week before I needed custom cookies. It was for my best friend who was having a hysterectomy and I had seen a picture of funny iced cookies on Etsy, and prefer to shop local. I used to come here once every two weeks and get a dozen cupcakes. I stopped going even though I love it here I just didn't have consistent quality. I think the place itself is really cool and I love going inside. Even the people who work there are awesome. I've tried all of their cupcakes but I think that the VooDoo is a miss. It was a coffee caramel (I think) that was a little dry to me. I also have enjoyed their lemon sometimes and not liked it at other times. Basically what I'm saying is come here and make your own opinion. I will still come here I just think that it could be better. Then again, this review is only for their cupcakes. This is the absolute best bakery in the area! From the excellent baked goods, to the quirky decor, everything is great. I have tried multiple flavors of cupcakes from here, and haven't had a bad one yet. The hot chocolate cupcakes and red velvet with chocolate ganache frosting are my favorites. I've taken the cupcakes to parties as well, and they've always been well-received. If you're a coffee fan you need to try a drink from here. Starry Night recently made a cake and cupcakes for our daughters bridal shower. It was a Wedding dress cake and the cupcakes looked like the bridesmaids dresses. They were absolutly beautiful. I ordered a dozen cupcakes (6 red velvet and 6 carrot cake) for my daughter's Birthday and they were horrible. We were very disappointed. All of the cupcakes were dry and tasteless. The red velvet cupcakes were not thoroughly mixed because they were white on the bottom. I would not recommend buying from this bakery. read more
