A place where talent is identified and given center stage. NOT a place where kids are "coached" to sing, dance and act. I have enrolled my child a couple of times. And he was NOT "taught" anything. He's a naturally good singer, so he sang well. They did NOT provide any voice training. I was hoping they would coach him on movement and dance basics but they did NOT. In summer camp, kids with smaller parts just sit around, there is no coaching to fill their time. They just "play games". In short, it's a lot like everything else. They provide a platform. If the child is naturally talented, motivated and lands a good part it's great. For the rest, it's an activity to check off. read more

The review pertains solely to the summer camp experience. The cost is quite high, but the children have very limited opportunities to speak or sing, with some not even getting a chance to do so. Age groups were not mixed well. WOW! We've been blown away by the quality of their shows. We've seen Main stage productions- Beauty and the Beast, James and the Giant Peach, Hunchback, and Shrek. Last summer, we attended the summer camp production of Lion King Jr. as well as this summer's show: Annie Jr. Such amazing talent! Thank you for keeping theater alive and well. Been a fan since 2005 when I saw their production of "Anything Goes". Each production has full orchestra with some amazing choreography and the direction by Ms. Stokes is impeccable. Our teen participated in Annie KIDS 2-week summer camp for the very first time. We were all delighted with the results the show created for such a short time as the overall quality of the production not only met but exceeded our expectations. Even though not all participants had musical theater experience before, everyone shone brightly on stage at every performance ( 3 total!) They clearly felt like professionals because of this exceptional experience. The StartStruck crew created a caring and nurturing environment, while fostering confidence, creativity, and lasting friendships. I would highly recommend it to any young performer passionate about theater and music.The camp provided not only an incredible learning experience but also it was a lot of fun. There is not much role for younger kids. My son literally got just 3 minutes stage time out of 30 minutes. They should consider splitting in groups to get everyone fair chance. We know he is a bit shy but at least you should have encouraged him by giving more chance. And you should consider charging less price for less screen time. Make sure you ask the screen time before you pay. read more

I started Starstruck at 16 years old in a main stage production. The opportunities that I earned and the skills that I gained are incredible. It's like "Broadway" had a baby and its name is "StarStruck Theatre". What Lori manages to do with her productions is awe inspiring. All of her shows are meticulously created with professional staging, lighting, costumes, music, and of course a group of the most talented youth in the Bay Area. Kids travel from all over the Bay Area to come to StarStruck where they can take lessons in youth acting, musical theater, vocal coaching, and musical theater dance - - and of course audition for a part in one of StarStruck's musicals. The staff is really nice, very knowledgeable about musical theater and drama, and they are all specially trained to work with school-age children, which is important in building their confidence level and overall enjoyment of theater. I'm reviewing as a parent and an audience member. Everything Starstruck does is quality! I've had 3 kids participate in their summer theater program and it is the one thing that they want to do over and over again. The instructors are highly qualified and all of them are great with kids. I appreciate the emphasis on building the confidence of each child starting from where the child is at and no matter what part the child gets, they are made to feel that their part is important. As an audience member, I am impressed by how professional their productions are. They pull out all the stops and I love that it's in my own backyard. read more

StarStruck is truly one of the gems of Fremont. My wife and I and our three kids have probably attended 12 different plays they have put on over the last 10 years we've lived in Fremont, including Peter Pan, Shrek, Les Miserables, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Charlie and the Chocolate factory, among many others. I have seen many college predictions that don't come close to the quality level of Star Struck. And frankly, I've enjoyed some Star Struck productions more than Broadway plays I've seen in San Francisco (the cute kids help here, of course). Never been let down with this quality theater group. Their productions are full of passion, focus, and support of all the children and older actors that make up their numbers. Our daughter performed in a few of their productions a few years back and admitteldy loved those productions, but have also loved every single production since. Our daughter feels a kinship with the group even though she hasn't performed in awhile. The "family" that director Lori Stokes creates among the performers is very apparent in each and every show and the kids absolutely love performing. This not only adds to the quality of the performance but it lures in the audience who become entranced by talent these kids, some are quite young, have! Lori Stokes' Starstruck Theatre puts on shows that are nothing short of amazing. I've seen lots of community theater and professional productions and these kids always rank between "very good" and "downright amazing". Their version of "Into the Woods" was the best I've ever seen,with good singing and acting that seemed so real it was nearly possible to forget I was in a theater. When people think of children's theatre they usually expect cute kids dressing up and doing "their best" to put on a good show. In StarStruck's main stage productions you're seeing production values and performances that often surpass the professional touring companies and New York and London productions I see. Their take on "Les Miserables" was powerful and an emotional workout". "Thoroughly Modern Millie" was a frothy delight. I highly recommend you check this group out. Expect energy levels that bounce right off the walls and skilled, disciplined performers ranging from 7 to late teens. It's not what "children's theater" should be. Hate to do this for any performing art venue, but Star Strucks immature teen volunteers are obnoxious and loud making the musical annoying and unenjoyable. The staff does nothing to manage the volunteers. The theatre lost a family of followers. read more

I've been a performer my whole life and involved in professional theater as a child. The caliber of performance at StarStruck is excellent and often surpasses that of most adult regional theater. The kids are incredible and their skills groomed so well, you can completely forget they aren't adults (and often that you're not watching professional actors). I'm consistently floored by their incredible productions and the quality of talent they draw. You can tell by the connections on stage that everyone there is a family and that they're having a blast. 5 stars. No question. read more

I Just got home from a performance of Star struck theaters "Annie" and I am shocked to see no reviews here. My wife and I love the theatre, we bring the kids, we go by ourselves, we LOVE theatre. We have been to shows everywhere from 42nd street in New York to San Francisco, San Jose. Local high schools, down to Elementary schools, we LOVE the theatre. And both of us agree that Star Struck performances are some of the best. They are just a tiny notch down from Broadway! They are miles better than your average High school production (leaving Mz Jackson's Irvington High out of the equation they are VERY GOOD too) . But honestly, when I see a stage COVERED with children who are singing in tune and dancing in sync you have my attention. When I see them as good as I saw tonight I am in awe. Every time we go I think I am ready for it. But darn it if I am blown away all over again at the quality of production, at the joy in the kids, they are wonderful, simply wonderful. No need to drive to the big city people, we have Broadway quality theatre right here in Fremont! read more

If there is a zero star, I would rate it as zero. I watched the Peter Pan show at Ohlone College, it was a good show. Most of the people would agree their shows at Ohlone are very professional. Yet, when I send my kids to their summer camp, it is horrible. There are 30 students in one drama camp, and only 2 kids are the main characters. The rest have no script, they all are part of the background. Most of the time, my kids are hanging around, nothing to do while waiting the teachers teaching the 2-3 kids that are the main characters. I spent $1000 for 2 kids on the camp, they waste 3 weeks of the time, doing nothing. Honestly, I have to say, if you are amazed with their show and want your kids to get trained, chances are you will be very very frustrated. They only train a few kids that perform the best on the auditions. read more

The Little Mermaid, put on by Starstruck Theatre, at Gary Soren theater, was fabulous. These kids are AMAZING! I took my granddaughter and it was like a Broadway play. I am a season ticket holder at SAP and this performance was better than most of the one I've seen there (The Lion King being the exception, but this was right on par with it). I'm impressed with the singing but every detail was home with perfection. I will be attending more plays here. read more
