My partner and I took the beginner sampler class and I loved it! Our instructor Sean was very competent and created a very warm and welcoming space to learn and have fun. We went through a series of exercises that built on each very well and along every step of the way, there was a new lesson on the art of improv. I was having so much fun, the two hours of class quickly flew by! We also went to their Laugh Track City show later that night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Took the Improv sampler class and... It was amazing. I was blown away by the instructor's clear direction, but also patience with all of our concerns and fears. You can tell he has done this for a while. My friends and I took this improv class to try something brand new and walked with joy, confidence and a newer perspective. ANYONE can do improv. Made up theatre is definitely a gem of a creative play space in Fremont! I took an introductory session with Sean Taylor. I was incredibly nervous going my first time but it was so welcoming and Sean does a great job of creating a safe space for everyone to have fun and learn improv! After the sampler, I've gone on to take 3 full classes with Sean Reimer and William Yap, who both are fantastic instructors as well. I've taken the Intro to Improv class, Scene Study, and Improv Games. I would say that improv has definitely helped me become more confident as a speaker, it's helped improve my social skills, begin developing the muscle to think quickly of what to say or do, and I incorporate a lot more humor into my day to day life. It has been by far one of the more impactful hobbies I've come to pick up. I even took my partner to the sampler session and as a CEO he also agreed that improv was transformative and if his employees were located centrally he would have definitely had them do a company event here. I also enjoy the shows they have as well! They're super entertaining and as a student you can also get some tickets for free (your student show is also free to attend) - but I also recommend checking out their shows on the weekends. Wow, wow, wow what a show! This was a special one since it featured the 3 founding members Bobby, Sean, and Ben. They are all very different so makes the show so entertaining. These guys go on stage 'without a parachute' and the situations they create along with comedic intelligence keeps you engaged in laughter and 'did he actually say that'? The show is so inexpensive that you JUST GOTTA GO. Such a great night out even for retired people. Don't forget there are classes for children adults, and the would be great for a corporate off-site. Went to a show twice in one week so clearly I enjoy this place! First time watching improv in awhile and Made Up Theatre did not disappoint. Hosted in one of the oldest buildings in Fremont, this small but lively theater hosts shows every week with a dynamic and talented cast. If you haven't seen improv before, highly recommend checking this place out! Ticket and food prices are very reasonable, and there is a large parking lot behind the theater that makes getting there easy. Cast alternates between playing various improv games with live input from the audience, which ensures that every show is unique and hilarious. Was here March 1, 2025 for Laugh Track City. Great experience, super cool mini concession stand. I wanted to post this as private feedback but the email survey they sent me, only allowed a :) or a :(. My suggestion to Laugh Track City is to give 10 more seconds to the audience when needing suggestions. We had an annoying front audience (obviously immature attention seekers) who gave suggestions like "somersault, onomatopoeia, Timbuktu, J. R. R. Tolkien". You guys deserve so much better. Accept more practical answers and don't take the first suggestion you hear. read more

I visited the Made Up Theatre for the first time this past Saturday for Laugh Track City, and had the best time ever! That is not an exaggeration. I walked in, not really knowing what to expect because I had scored some complimentary tickets... and I ended up laughing so hard the entire time, more than I do at stand-up comedy shows, even for popular comedians.  The performers were so good with their acting/improv, and they communicated with the crowd so well... they were friendly, creative, hilarious, explained things clearly to the audience, especially for newbies like myself, and they were so intelligent and talented being able to take the most awkward suggestions from the crowd and utilize them in their performance (related to history, literature, pop culture, random words/actions, etc.). I was sooo impressed! And absolutely entertained! The only way you could "NOT" like this is if you have a stick up your @ss, and I feel sorry for any of those people. If you haven't been here yet, you are missing out!! I got free tix initially, but this is absolutely worth paying full price, and I can see myself becoming a regular here because the show is different every time (since they have different performers and interact with a new audience each night in order to make the show). If you don't understand how improv works, don't worry, you'll still be entertained (let's just say it's like a skit, a game show, and a comedy show mixed into one... but multiple acts within the time frame for the event)... you'll understand when you get there. It's interactive with the audience, but you don't have to participate if you're shy. And you won't regret giving it a chance for a cool hour and a half on a Saturday night. The place may be a bit confusing to find, because what looks like an entrance on ground level on Bay Street is not the entrance, instead you climb up some outdoor stairs on Fremont Blvd (between Bay and Irvington) and the entrance is on the 2nd level. Parking's somewhat unclear too, it looks like there's a small parking lot off a one-way street (Bay), but no signs indicating if this lot is private. Most guests parked in the shopping plaza behind the theatre. Proof of vaccination is checked at the door (will call), and mask-wearing is required inside the theatre. The venue has great character and really cute lighting starting from the staircase to the entrance, as well as inside. You can pick your own seats and they all have good views, it's a nice intimate setting but not too small, ideal for this type of show. They also have movie trivia showing on a screen before the show and during intermission. They don't serve alcoholic beverages here, but they do have bottled drinks and snacks, as well as ice cream. There is a promotion if you check in on Yelp, free popcorn with drink/snack purchase.  They do classes and camps at Made Up Theatre too, but this review is mainly for Laugh Track City (Saturday night event). Come with people you love, or even by yourself, and it will definitely make your day! And it's not just the endless laughs, I definitely learned some new stuff too from all of the performances. This is a review for November. Somehow, I still remember how I was feeling near the end of the show, so I'd thought I'd review it. For this particular show, I visited their theatre at Bay St. It was exciting they had a new venue; it was on top of a cafe. We entered by walking up the stairs. Then we found our seats which were mid-row. There weren't many people in the audience for the 8pm show. My group of four and three other groups, so the audience and stand up comedians were noticeable. The show was okay. There were plenty of dirty jokes compared to usual. They had one game where they made jokes about an object and pick up lines. I like that one. They also had another game where they reminded and forwarded the scene. It was cute. The one game near the end though--I really disliked it. I guess that since there weren't many people in the audience they chose the game where they pretended to do an act based on certain people in the audience. Guess who was impersonated? My group. And I'm the quieter, I'll laugh at everything because I'm so tired I just need a laugh type of gal. My friends were impersonated fine, and they enjoyed the show. Mine was awkward and sexual talking about the interaction with my s.o. next to me. I just didn't appreciate it. After the game, I felt like I wanted to withdraw. It just wasn't funny and maybe depression and other mental health stuff was making me feel awful. I just didn't like to be impersonated. My perspective differed a bit from my group I know, but I wish I could have opted out of it. ***note that while I left a negative review from my last visit, some of their shows are genuinely great and funny. This really depends on who you are and which members are part of the show each night. So, go at least twice to sample different stand-up groups. read more

Came here for my sister's bridal shower and we had a great time! I have never been to an improv shows before nor watched "who's line is it" so to me it was all new and love every moment of it! Will come back for sure!!!! I love the concepts of the show where its not scripted and they just act out whatever suggestion from the audience. I have to say, we had a tough crowd and very challenging for the actors/ actresses.. I think they did great and made us laugh so hard. I think i cried few times from laughter. one of our friend volunteer to go on the stage and she did great and it was fun to watch her improvised the whole set. Came here yesterday for the yelp event , free improv night ! Saturday nights are apparently romantic comedy movie sketches based on audience suggestions. We had finally decided on "love and other stds" The improv show was hilariously engaging! Majority of actors were very focused on their craft and skilled & entertaining. They really got into character and were believable. Love how down to earth they all were. Their sarcasm coupled with honesty was easy to accept. At the end of the show, they greet you outside with high fives which was cute. They also sell snacks, ice cream & drinks. Great place to bring a date. A great find in Fremont ! Who knew? read more

I have seen shows and taken classes there, and they go above and beyond to provide great service and build a caring and supportive community. I've driven by this place so many times and I finally had the chance to check out what they had to offer. The main commodity there is comedy and they dish it left and right. I've been there for the improv shows and always had a lot of fun and yuk yuks. The stage is small so there is no need for any elaborate sound system, just well projected voices The shows are performed by some seriously talented and passionate people. I'm tempted to take their comedy classes. Keep up the great work! Like everyone else says, you'll park in the lot in the back and have to walk up the street facing staircase to get in. We came here for the 10 PM $5 show and spent an hour rolling in laughter; the show was that good. It's a 5 person team of very experienced improvisers. Each week they do a different themed show. What a wonderful delight! Came here for a friends birthday and I'm so glad she made us go! I was a bit skeptical at first to be honest. Finding the venue was a bit difficult because it's hidden behind some other venues. It's very small, but creates an intimate atmosphere. Parking is also limited. Checking in was very easy and the cast was phenomenal! I love the interaction between the cast and the audience. It's so second nature for the actors! Which made it very engaging, fun and an unforgettable memory. I laughed non stop throughout the whole thing. It was again a wonderful experience. During the break I snagged myself some treats from the lovely cashiers. The ice cream is 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. I had both. The mint chip and chocolate. There's also vanilla as well. Nothing is scripted so that means every show is different. I will definitely be back with a group of friends again! read more

The performers at MUT are amazing. My husband and I have been going to show since they first open their theatre. We really enjoy going to the show, the live improv experience can't be bet. I always leave with my cheeks hurting from laughing and smiling so much. We love the new theater on Bay Street and we love support a local business! With the shelter in place in effect they are doing online shows on Saturday nights. It is a wonderful experience to watch them at home( but miss the in person show). Our 10 year old said " they bring laughter, brightness and love to us!" Could not put it better myself! Go to their show!!! It the best. read more

Wife and I took the Sampler class and then stayed for the evening show. Both were excellent. The Sampler gave us insight into how it is done as we went through multiple exercises with other folks practicing the craft. The instruction was crisp, the pace was fast and it was fun from start to finish. The show was very funny most of the time. We had great laughs not only from the lines going off as intended but also in the interplay between the team when things weren't quite right. Some of the funniest gags were from subtle and not-so-subtle call outs between cast members. Thanks to taking the class, watching the performance and knowing about shows like, "Who's Line", we came away with a greater appreciation of just how hard something like this is to do and how well the MUT's do it. Don't have concrete stats, but I would bet you dollars to donuts that the Who's Line folks record and toss out a good 30-50% of the performance that doesn't hit the bullseye completely. A luxury the MUT's don't have, which made their skills and ability to keep it firing through out the night even more impressive. Staff was friendly, place was cozy and clean and parking was easy. I've only been here once so far, but I plan to go back!!! We went here for their 10 pm SAT show where they did improv for a movie based on a title created by the audience. The title was the Adventures of Awkward Man! It was a superhero movie. We voted by apalase. The actors and actresses were so funny. I would like to see their shows where they do Whose Line Anyway style, but I think that I'll enjoy the more stageshow-storyline approach. There were no elaborate scenes or costumes, but they didn't really need it because most of the story was made up. They also had a person doing soundtracks in the back so there was even music in the background to match the acting. This added quite a bit to the performance. You never realize how much sound plays a role in the entertainment experience of the audience. But the main reason I liked this theatre was the comedy was PG/PG13. In most comedy shows that I've been too...the comedians are so vulgar that it gets uncomfortable and not funny for me. For me, that type of humor isn't my cup of tea. Made up theatre didn't feel like that at all so it was very funny and enjoyable. The show lasted about one hour and they had decent priced snacks available; not the $7 popcorn, but popcorn for $2 and candies for $1. Seats were a little uncomfortable, but since you weren't sitting for long, it wasn't a deal breaker. We also got in free because it was a comp show, but you can get tickets for $2.50 on Groupon. Definitely suggest checking this place out! They offer classes too that I feel would be fun to take!!! Enjoy! read more

5 Stars for a free show. 3 Stars if you have to pay. We went on a Friday night for the 10pm show which is a free show. We arrived about 30 minutes before the show and there were about 25 people already in line. The place has seats inside for a little shy of 50 people I think. I have been to more improve shows than I can count and this show only gave me a few laughs. There were a couple performers in particular that had almost zero improv skills. Let alone, improv skills that culminated into something funny. They do, however, have some other people with some good skills. I just felt the balance between these two forces left gaps that were awkward and not amusing to fill. Maybe it was an off night. All the staff were super nice and friendly and they have good snack bar inside. There is a tip jar if you found the show entertaining. I would go again, but only for the free show. I feel I would be disappointed if I had to pay. Perhaps after another attempt or two I might change my mind. read more

These guys are awfully funny! Make sure to book your tickets early, the day of should be fine. We got free tickets by signing up for the newsletter however upon receiving the email, we realized the expiration date has passed. We called and inquired on a Saturday afternoon, they were kind enough to put us on the list for that night. Off Osgood, near Automall or Fry's in Fremont, you would never expect this tiny warehouse located in the middle of a small business area to be an improv theatre. Very hidden, but there were signs showing that this place exists. We entered the small dark warehouse, checked in, saw that they were selling snacks/water for a decent $1 to $3 price. Sat down and watched a PowerPoint being projected onto the wall. It contained some interesting and funny slides about the place along with some fun facts. The 5play show was very funny, original, and the audience had a great time blurting out random phrases/scenes for the actors to improvise on. They incorporated the audience so well, I believe that's what made the skits beyond hilarious. We will definitely be back and I will spread this show to all my friends in the area! I'm so shocked yet pleased that these guys were willing to give out free shows for signing up for the newsletter. We bought a Groupon deal which is worth $12 for 2 people to attend a show, and I think that for this price, it is well worth it. Please check out their shows! You will NOT regret it. read more
