Starving Artist has several locations in the GTA and they offer brunch food from morning till late afternoon (known for Waffles). I visited the small location at Mt. Pleasant on a weekend at about 3pm and there were plenty of seating options. This location offers Debit or Cash only (can't speak about the other locations). The server was not very friendly or attentive, despite it not being busy and we had to ask for water ourselves. There were several red flags for our group's interactions with the server: trying to take a plate away even with so lots of food on the plate remaining, taking half our party's cups away without asking even though most of us wanted more water. There are lots of waffle combinations - the Sammy Benny is a pretty safe choice. Our table also ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The chicken was average so I would not recommend but the waffles were good! Most plate orders come with mixed greens with your choice of fruit salad, potato salad, or maple beans. Our party agreed the fruit salad was the best choice out of the three options. I met up here with a couple friends. My sister came as well and brought her baby. Unfortunately from the minute we walked in the door, it seemed like we were bothering the wait staff. Not just us though...it seemed like everyone was bothering them. We got there and 2 tables were empty but needed to be cleaned. We waited probably 10-15 minutes to be seated because they just kept passing by the tables. And since the place isn't that big, where we were waiting seemed like we were a little underfoot and it would have made their jobs easier to seat us anyways. When we were seated, it took another 10-15 minutes to even get water brought to us. We ordered our meals, including an appetizer that we specified was for the baby. Then I think we waited an hour for our food to show up. Normally at least the baby tends to get food very fast but none of us got anything for at least an hour. That includes a refill of out water bottle. I get that sometimes things can be running behind with the kitchen staff but no one even came to talk to us or say anything until after we finished our meals. When the food did arrive, I was pretty disappointed with it. The eggs Benedict that I got was dry (needed more hollandaise sauce) and not overly flavourful. The others were also less than impressed. It was even worse by the fact that some of us had been to a different Starving Artist location pre-pandemic and the food was great. This was a sad comparison to our last experience. read more

We were looking to order some food on a recent evening, and I felt like trying something completely different from our usual Thai or sushi, so Starving Artist seemed like a good choice. I wasn't in the mood for something sweet, so I opted for an item in the joint's Sandwich Waffles section: the Chicken Bacon ("Chicken, bacon, havarti, cucumber & secret sauce"). (As an aside, when you select this menu item, the food-delivery app gives you three options under a Choose Ingredient section: Bacon, Avocado, Tomato. Well, I thought to myself, this already comes with Bacon, so I'll just get Avocado. Nope. By doing that, I wound up with Avocado *instead* of Bacon. Huh?) Anyway, the food arrived a while later and I'll admit the sandwich wasn't much to look at. Don't judge a book by its cover, I figured, and dove in. This is one terrible sandwich. The waffle is completely soggy and not in a tasty, brioche kind of way. It tastes like it was defrosted from a frozen waffle and served without any kind of toasting. And, making matters worse, it was almost inedibly sweet. It might just have been the worst waffle I've ever eaten, and I've had plenty of buffet waffles in my life. Adding insult to injury were the various components inside the sandwich. The chicken was particularly offensive, as it wasn't fresh and indeed tasted like it came directly from a package of pre-cooked chicken breasts. The avocado wasn't even remotely ripe enough to be served, and the supposed "secret sauce" was completely absent, which ensured that the sandwich was dryer than the desert. I ate maybe half of this train wreck and threw the rest away. All in all, I absolutely hated my meal and I'm honestly astonished that the person who prepared it had the stones to actually send it out. Came here on Saturday at 11:45am and got seated immediately. By 12pm the restaurant was packed. I really wanted to try their potato waffles so I got the breakfast benedict waffles. We also ordered the chicken bacon sandwich waffle. Both orders came with a side, we opted for fruits and potato salad. Make sure to come here hungry because the portions were very big! Compared to the waffles in the sandwich, the potato waffles were more dense and moist. I would considered it more of a potato patty. It was on the bland side, but there's a jar of maple syrup on the table to enhance the flavour. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, a runny yolk with a semi solid yolk rim. The texture of the waffle sandwich was soft and slightly fluffy. The exterior was slightly crispy. The potato salad was decent - creamy but not overly filling. This was my first time visiting any starving artist location. From pictures that I have seen online this is the smaller location. I visited on a Saturday around noon the wait was about 15 minutes not too long they give you the menus while you're in line so you can think of what you want to order before you sit down. They don't have any lemon or lime so you can order water with lemon or hot water with lemon cuz they don't have any lemon or lime for some reason they serve their hot drinks in glasses and then put a sleeve over it there is no mugs so that was a little weird too. The food took a short amount of time too, it came out really quickly it was amazing I got egg Benedicts with salmon everything was so flavorful so fresh I would definitely go back one thing to remember this is a cash-only place read more

Best Eggs Benedict I've had in ages, or maybe ever! My friend and I went here for brunch yesterday around noon. The place was full, with a couple waiting ahead of us, but I could see a few people were almost finished eating so it was about a 10 minute wait. We were handed menus while we waited so we could decide what to eat. Holy Hanna, their menu is a waffle-lover's dream come true! I should've taken a photo, but I was too excited. The staff are very quick to clear and clean tables to minimize wait time, which is great. We were seated within 10 minutes of arriving, and noticed shortly after, that people starting coming in and the small waiting area filled up quickly. Good timing on our part! I desperately wanted coffee, which they offer, but only espresso drinks (americano, latte, etc) so this is the reason I couldn't give five stars. Maybe petty, but I usually like to have two or three cups of coffee with my brunch. I ordered an americano and it was really good, but the coffee cup was VERY small. I would not be ordering a second cup at $3 a shot. My friend ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and said it was delicious. Decent size, but I didn't pay attention to the cost. Our food arrived within 10 minutes or so from ordering and I was in heaven!! My, oh my. I ordered the Eggs Benedict on potato waffles, which look like mini waffles but are made from mashed potatoes. They were topped with caramelized bacon and perfectly poached soft eggs and the most delicious hollandaise sauce I've ever had. On the side, I had fresh fruit and some mixed greens. The greens could've been treated differently, maybe a citrus vinaigrette or something as they were a tad boring, but most people don't care about greens. The fruit was a nice mix of orange, grapefruit, pineapple and berries. But the star of my plate was the eggs benny. Wow. I'm still thinking about how good it was, 24 hours later. I was introduced to Starving Artist many years ago at their former Lansdowne location. I had a great experience the first time I went and was excited to try out Starving Artist again at their new location. The place is not big but is suitable for families and very kid friendly. The vibe is relaxing and laid back with friendly service. I headed to brunch on a Saturday and arrived at the restaurant around 12:30pm. The place was bustling with customers enjoying their various waffle dishes and my boyfriend and I had to wait around 15 min to get a table. Service was good although it did take them a while to give us water and our coffees. Other than that, the waffle dishes we ordered came at a reasonable time. I ordered the waffle benny while my boyfriend got the monte cristo waffle sandwich. My waffle benny was delicious and came with a side salad and fruit. My boyfriend's monte cristo was filled with ham, turkey and Havarti cheese. We had no complaints about the food and enjoyed our brunch. Bacon was undercooked. Pork needs to be properly cooked. I will not eat this. Hollandaise sauce was half full and my side potato salad was also half full. 6 forkfuls to be exact lol. I've ordered a side fruit bowl in previous orders and it comes full. I paid 9 dollars for half a strawberry, half an orange slice, half a grapefruit slice, 2 quarter slices of pineapple (half a pineapple slice) two blueberries and a couple slices of bananas oh and a sliver of watermelon. This is usually the garnish that comes with the meal. This was not a proper fruit bowl. ‍ with tip I paid 53 dollars for breakfast. I will NEVER order from here again. The kitchen staff does not care about takeout orders. I work hard for my money. If you come into my dental office you are getting the best possible treatment. We tried Starving Artist @starving4waffle for brunch today. Everything there is waffle. I decided to try the fall special, pumpkin pie Waffle. It comes with 4 mini waffles, pumpkin pie filling, whipped cream, pecans, and pumpkin spice, and a choice of sides. I chose fruit salad - refreshing mix. It was a very sweet item, and a little bummed they don't have home fries, but the green salad addition was good and healthy! Since I also ordered the mango banana smoothie, the salad, fruit, and waffle filled me up quite quickly, that we were able to take some of my waffles home for a snack later! We tried this place for the first time today with no idea what to expect. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the loud EDM music. We were the first customers of the day so were seated and seen to within minutes. We had some questions about the menu, and our waiter wasn't able to answer them all, so we placed our orders hoping for the best. Only espresso drinks are served, so there's no bottomless drip coffee available. They had ordinary table syrup on the table, but for about $2 per ounce you can get the real thing. The waffles were piping hot, delicious and filling. The fruit and salads were fresh and generously served. The starter waffles are small and round and good for smaller appetites. The entree waffles are large and square and better for hungrier types. We paid $65 for 4 people. There is a tip jar at the cash so your tip doesn't go directly to the server. It is a cash only operation, so they have an ATM with a $2 fee to use. Our less-than-stellar rating is based on the fact that the server didn't know the menu that well and couldn't understand our questions; it was too early in the morning for loud dance music; and our distaste for having to pay an ATM fee because the restaurant doesn't want to incur POP technology costs, or avoid paying taxes. I've ordered from this location a couple of times and wanted to share my experience. Each time, we ordered both the B. Benny (eggs Benny with mashed potato waffles) and the Waffle Benny. Each serving comes with two eggs Benny, typical of all breakfast places I've tried. We always switch one egg so both diners get to have both waffle types. The B. Benny is preferable as the sweetness of the regular waffle throws is off. We wanted to give it a second try to see if it was a one-off. Portions are good. I'm quite a big eater and I never manage to finish everything including side and side salad in one sitting. The food is well packed for delivery. They keep warm and cool/cold items apart, hollandaise sauce is packed separately and consistently a generous portion. Baked beans were soft and satisfactory for a breakfast joint with this price point. Often times, side fruit salads or greens salads come withered or inedible. Theirs is NOT like that. No slime baby greens to be seen, obviously there's a decent quality assurance process in place. The fruit salad is carefully packed with equal amounts of watermelon, half strawberry, orange slice, grapefruit slice, blueberries, blackberry, and banana slices. The fruit was perfectly ripened, ready to be eaten. The yolks are a little more well done than they should be. They won't run as you cut into them, but it's not dry and the extra hollandaise sauce makes up for it. read more

Came here around 3:30pm on a saturday and the restaurant was quite empty - no wait! My partner and I ordered the waffle benny and the b.benny, and we thought it was delicious. The normal waffle is warm, soft, and didn't get very soggy even under the poached eggs. The potato waffle tastes like mashed potatoes with a crispy outside, and also was very satisfying in the beginning, but then started to feel overly filling near the end - particularly because it was paired with the potato salad. I do find that the waffle benny was a slightly better pairing. The eggs were poached, in my opinion, to perfection. I don't like it so much when the yolk is too runny and most of it ends up on the plate, though it still did run a little bit. The bacon tasted like maple bacon - sweet, caramelized and crispy. For the sides, you can choose between potato salad, fruits or maple beans. We picked potato salad and fruits, the potato salad tasted very similar to Ziggy's. The fruits came with a lot of variety. Mannn I took a coworker here on the wings of the reputations of the now-closed Lansdowne location and the St Clair location when it first opened. The chicken salsa waffle sandwich...? I thought you guys had something up your sleeve to make the waffle mesh better with the chicken and salsa...but like, its literally a fluffy, sweet waffle with chicken and salsa. That is very strange to me. The salsa 's moisture was absorbed by the waffle, rendering the waffle DISGUSTING. It was all spongey with salsa juices--yuck! the thought. That being said, The Hitchhiker, Fully Loaded and Waffle Bacon have never let me down. We waited in line for almost a damn hour. There was ONE server. I'm sure there should've been more but maybe someone called in sick? Regardless it was a mad house in there and they really need management in here to sort things out as things could've been a lot more efficient. Sitting parties of 2 at 4-seater tables for example, ugh! No one should have to wait an hour for brunch!!! Anyway I felt bad for the one server she was so busy and tried her best. I ordered the loaded potato waffles which were two potato waffles with cheese bacon and sour cream. It was damn delicious!!!! Very filling and tasty but the side salad it came with was weak. Wilted greens with barely any dressing. With better service and a little more effort on the sides dishes (salad and fruit) this place would be amazing. No air conditioning which made for an uncomfortable environment on a hot day and I was offered room temperature water to drink, go figure. Ordered the B. Benny ($15) which were 2 bacon benedicts served on potato waffles. A side salad and a few pieces of fruit as an after thought completed the plating. I will say they do make a better than average hollandaise sauce and the potato waffles were tasty. Other than that everything else was ho hum average. Because of the unbearably stuffy, hot restaurant I could not get out of there fast enough. 3.5 STARS I work literally a 2 min walk away from this location of Starving Artist, so needless to say my whole office was excited when they opened. I've been here on several occasions. THE FOOD: Starving Artist has great waffles, I'm particularly a fan of their potato waffles, which are impressively light considering they're potato based and are a great base for all of the savoury waffles. THE SPACE: The restaurant is spacious and bright, but always packed around lunch time. The wait time at the door is generally minimal (10-15 mins) but the wait once you have ordered can be excessive. This is not a place to go for a quick work lunch. Definitely budget 1-1.5 hours. THE SERVICE: No big complaints about the service, it's always friendly and helpful. On one occasion, I was there with a friend who let them know she has a pineapple allergy, yet pineapple was still put in her fruit salad, so we weren't particularly impressed with their attention to detail. The lady ordered the blueberry waffles -- which were regular waffles and they put some blueberries on top... the fucken audacity. Do you remember that scene in 'Casino' when Sam Rothstein (Robert DeNiro) blasts the kitchen staff for inconsistent distribution of blueberries and demands that they put an *EQUAL* amount of blueberries in each muffin? I don't even know what to say when your blueberry waffles doesn't even contain blueberries. My inner Rothstein wanted to go to the kitchen with a hammer and ask the chef which hand they used to sprinkle blueberries on top of the waffles...
