I waited for 15 minutes, behind another customer waiting. When a new customer barreled inside and cut ahead of us in line, I expected a sales person to ask who was next or to address the situation. My story with State Street jewelers is a bit circuitous, but wonderful! My daughter's engagement ring and wedding band were purchased at this establishment, so this is where she took my 40 year-old engagement ring to get repaired... Unbeknownst to me! One of my diamonds fell out in December 2024 and I stored it away, not ready to deal with searching/pricing/admitting I didn't keep it in as good of shape as I should have! But my birthday was in January and she hatched a plan (with her siblings and dad) to find where I stashed my ring, take it to her trusted jeweler, get it fixed, and have the fun of presenting it to me at my birthday dinner! In order to get it done in time, there had to be a little bit of a push, eventually causing the owner of this store to pitch in on the weekend to do the final fixes! Staff member Peggy, who my daughter was working with, personally drove the finished ring to my daughter's house in Batavia so it was able to be presented to me that night at my birthday dinner! after 33 years, my wedding ring was in pretty bad shape. Thankfully, I went to the right place! I had a positive experience with the help of Wynn, a store assistant, who is very pleasant and informative. And the final results were noticeably better. The entire crown holding the center diamond had to be replaced along with several of the side bezels and a channel repair so it was pretty extensive. But the results were just beautiful. read more

You are never going to believe this but.... My pet parrot ate my beloved sapphire engagement ring. Well, he didn't exactly eat it, but he tried. His bite force actually bent 3 or 4 of the prongs of my pure platinum band to the point that the stone was about to fall out! And it all happened in about 1.2 seconds. After the fiasco, I was thrilled to remember that State Street Jewelers does in-house repairs, so my husband and I took the ring in expecting to have to pay a pretty steep price for such a mess. We were wrong! They were so friendly, let us know how they were going to repair it, how long to expect it would take (Only a week!), AND, they didn't even look at us crazy when we explained what happened! (They did have a good laugh, but seriously; who wouldn't?) One week later, my ring is back on my finger and looks brand new. There was no way I could have gone before a judge or taken photos on one of the more important days of my life with no makeup (forgot most of that too) and no earrings. I had taken my fiance's engagement ring for a tightening/check to see if anything was wrong. They tightened it for free and noted the tips were too small for the size of the diamond. They gave an appraisal for changing the tips, as well as the prongs, noting the tightening was only a short term fix but there were currently no issues. 2 weeks later, my fiancé notices an issue as one of the prongs does not looked to be pressed down so she goes to get it tightened again. They now say that the prong is cracked and they said that they told me that the first time I came in. (A reason to believe my side upon trusting my word against theirs: Why would I receive an appraisal for a new tip if the prong was cracked?) I am aggravated and upset that my fiancé and I were lied to about this situation, and also upon the possibility they they, intentionally or unintentionally, could have caused the crack in the prong. That last sentence is accusatory of me and an alleged claim and does not have any definite truth to it, but is more than a possibility in our eyes. Note: The amount of time the ring was worn and the possible stress situations declined substantially since our last visit. I suggest to find a new local jeweler, however, if you do choose this jeweler, I hope you do not have issues like I did. Update: the prong was cracked in a spot where it would not be possible for it to get caught/snagged on something (very low on the prong). That being said, it was due to being tightened too tight. read more

I contacted them ahead of time and asked if they could re-size the oyster bracelet on my Rolex. They assured me (twice) that they could, despite not being a Rolex AD. When I walked in, the woman looked at me puzzled when I handed her my watch and said it would cost double what she told me on the phone. I asked why and she said because it was a Rolex. I tried to walk out but she said okay fine I will do it half-price. They said it would take 15 minutes but took 30-45 minutes, to which no apology was given. When it was given back to me, the bracelet was covered in black gunk. I asked them to clean it off and it took another 10-15 minutes to do that. This was a custom ring done well over six years ago in Hong Kong that had lost a stone and in sad shape. They reset all three rings in all new mounts based on a pic and conversation. I went in a couple of times to review a CAD image and a wax mock up and small adjustments were made. I cannot recommend State Street Jewelers enough! When my brand new fiancé and I started shopping for the ring we started at another jeweler in Geneva and were very put off. The saleswoman barley paid any attention to us when she found out we were just looking and it was clear she wanted us out the door. She showed me a few generic rings that were nothing like what I described as my taste and essentially told us to come back when we knew what we wanted. Then we went to State Street Jewelers and the experience was night and day. Shanon, who was amazing, took her time with us even after she knew we weren't buying that day. We were given a seat at the counter where she asked tons of questions and carefully looked over my Pinterest board until she understood what I liked. In the end we went with a custom ring that combined the setting from one with the band from another in rose gold, with a blue-green tourmaline as the center stone. Walk in 2:45, Tuesday afternoon. Clerks are engaged with customers upon arrival - ok no worries. However, during my 20 minute wait no one acknowledges me, no one greets me, no one says hello to me or the woman who entered the store 10 minutes after I did. She bailed after another 5 minutes of waiting without acknowledgement. And while the 2 of us were waiting, the clerk was finishing up with her customers. Ok, no problem. I assume I'm next, but a woman walks in off the street and right up to the clerk, they clearly know each other engage in small talk and complete a transaction. I'm ignored again. A woman comes out from the back room and explain the story above and she said that it was possible that the staff just assumed I just wanted a watch battery changed (I did not, I was there to make a fairly high dollar purchase) so that's why they did not engage with me right away. So the bottom line at State Street Jewelers is that the level of customer service you receive is based upon the perceived amount of money you'll spend. Looks like watch battery replacements are at the bottom of the list and the level of service goes up from there. Well, not for me anyway, cause I wont be back. read more
