I started working on my taxes and like usual State Street Services did not send me a 1099-R. I looked everywhere on who to call. I did not get one last year either and hard to remember how I did get it. I did reach a man and he said on a recorded line to call your former employer. I went back to the former employer and tried to sign in but now the password which I wrote down did not work. The end I locked myself out of the tool to get my 1099-R and it will be a week before they can reset it by sending me a new pin. You would think the IRS would buckle down on these companies when it is the law for them to mail these 1099-R's and they are not. If you make a mistake, I am sure they won't be so nice to you. read more

This company was required to send me a 1099-R for a lump sum distribution of my 401k from Lumen pension services, but never sent me the required 1099r. I ended up having to have my CPA to use a payment stub which was attached to my lump sum distribution check to file my federal taxes because this corrupt company refused to provide me my 1099-R. I called the number listed on the website for State Street Retirement Services and it was out of service. I searched further and found that State Street no longer services these accounts and it is now Fidelity. The people at Fidelity routed me through three different locations until I finally spoke with a person, in some foreign accent, who told me that I don't have a listed account. My monthly checks come through State Street and I don't understand why they can't provide my 1099R or at least guve me the information. Taxes are frustrating enough without thisrun around. read more

My call may not has been as important as the others, but it was important to me. My tax paperwork came listing my old address to my new address. I called State Street to have them change it permanently to the new address. The woman I talked to was VERY nice. I asked her about the name of the website to file my medical paperwork and she also had that. I had been looking for it for almost a month. As soon as she said it, it popped in my head. As a Towers Watson retiree, I have had a few issues with State Street over the years but nothing serious until now! I'm now working on my 2021 taxes and when I check my Towers Watson 1099-R I find that they have reported a payment to me of only one-third of the actual amount!! How can this happen? I have 10% taken out for federal taxes, so if I went with this i would never get those taxes refunded. This kind of sloppiness demands an audit. read more

I'm on the fence about this company and will have to update this review as things progress. Years ago I worked at a company that was taken over by another company. At the time of the takeover, I cashed out my 401(k) because there was not much in it. Taxes were taken out of the check and I received a 1099-R from State Street. Fast forward to this year and the IRS sends me a letter saying that my measly little check was reported to them as a hefty check and that I owed them a bunch of money for taxes. HUH? I call my old employer (who was awesome!) and they tell me I have to contact the retiree services directly. That's where State Street comes in. I called State Street and the first operator takes the information, places me on hold for a little wait and comes back to tell me she has no record of the company and there's nothing she can do for me. SAY WHAT??? There's no way I'm paying the IRS a bunch of cash for your mistake. I call back, explain this to another operator (Susan Davenport) and she diligently tried to help me figure out what's going on and who to direct me to that will resolve this mystery. Where's Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated when you need them? Hey, if something weird is gonna happen, it's gonna happen to me (and then I write a funny play about it)!! How exciting!! Stay tuned for updates. I'm sure the mystery will be solved (and the monster in the rubber mask will turn out to be my old boss. *smile*). Turns out that the department that once handled our account is no longer in existence, but there is a group that has taken over those accounts. Douglas was on the ball and sorted out the whole mess. For some reason, my cash was in two separate accounts. They sent two checks - one to my mailing address and one to an old address. I got the little check, but not the big one. Because the account is so old, I have to jump through some hoops to update address, get a password, stop payment on the old check and issue a new one, but the great news is there's a huge check out there with my name on it!! read more

One would think Retirees are just that Retired! Relying on pension and other funds. Having said that I have difficult time comprehending as to why if the first of the month falls on a Sunday, why this company does not acknowledge and submit pension payments on Friday as other entities I am informed process. Terrible! Impossible to get in touch with & when you do they don't follow through with what you've asked them to do.

They are terrible! I've been trying to get them to withhold Federal taxes from my dad/s retirement check for almost 10 years now and they have yet to withhold more than $50! I have no idea why because they withhold State taxes, but every year this 87 year old couple owes the IRS almost $6,000 as a result of it! Worthless customer service! read more

When a company that issues pension payments cannot deliver Form 1099-R by January 31st and then cannot provide their federal ID without referring a retiree back to their former employer, I have to give them low marks for helpfulness, although I will be the first to commend them for their courtesy in their unhelpfulness. read more

If there were negative stars I would post it. My late wife past away in November of 2010. As her joint pensioner I am eligible to access her pension on what would be her 55th birthday .10/30/2013. I called twice earlier in the year to change my address and followed their instruvtions to a T . I was told call about 90 days before you are pension eligible and they will be able to get the paperwork out to me and I can move forward from there. I call on July 8th , to find they still have my old address . When I tell the lady I twice submitted changes she tells me she will take care of it. She then tells me in 2 to 4 weeks I will get a packet I can choose how I want the pension distributed and send it back. Of course , nothing arrives. I call back ..the first person tells me there is no record of my wife having worked for the company( she worked 25 years). I hang up and get Tai. She tries to verify me and I find the address is still my old address. She then tells me only the partcipant ( MY LATE WIFE) can change the address. She researches and says she does see where I called and the documents were ordered and are being sent to the correct address ( the lady on July 8th put the address in notes) but she has no idea why I didnt get documents. I ask if she can call and check but she tells me ( of course) it is a different department and she would call me back in a couple of days. She then asks me what the difference is if I get them in Sept or October etc as once I get them I can still get my pension. Well of course NO ONE called me back and to collect my late wifes pension I am in the process of filing an ERISA complaint and may need to hire a lawyer. I spoke with Ceasar today in order to make the following changes to my 82-year-old mother's retirement account: change of address and phone and changes to her direct deposit. We both spoke on a speaker phone to Ceasar and my mom was able to give her permission for Ceasar to speak to me and for her to hear the entire conversation that took place between us. Ceasar was able to help us with all the required changes in an efficient, friendly & expedient manner. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I had to go online in order to find any kind of contact information for State Street other than a mailing address. None of the correspondence in my mom's records had a phone number or website by which I could contact them. Some older people are not web-savvy and this issue is a problem. read more

with dealing with Sate street with my retirement package, they purposely sent the check with the wrong name on it. I therefore had to call and talk to about 10 different people before getting it sorted out. I was told it would be sent over night and all they did was send me a tracking number saying that UPS has not received the Package to ship. Investigating it, somemone at State Street in Jacksonville florida created a shipping label and did not mail it. it sat there for almost 3 days! how very unprofessional!! now the letter is being mailed from their home office in boston. its been over a week now. I suggest no one does business with them. its like they have tons of lazy kids working there that dont care about proper business tactics and their customers. This group is horrible, based on dealings for my wife's retirement account. We moved in 2017 and provided them the new address. In early 2018 wife had not received a 1099R form. After exhaustive search to find a contact at State Street to help they provided a 1099R by email as I recall. They had the wrong street address so my wife sent them a letter to ask that the street address be changed in their file. Fast forward to 2019, no 1099R form for 2018. Wife spent 40 minutes on phone to track down someone with some understanding of the matter. They have not updated the address and had the nerve to say they sent a letter a few months ago with a PIN number to all clients to be able to access information. Of course they sent it to the wrong address so how were we to know. Matter is now "under review". They will not just send something to the address they we provided verbally. Now they want to mail something with a PIN number so we can access the system. Hopefully they can somehow update the address and send the 1099R. Hopefully before April 15th. read more

Hey, I've spoken a lot with Susan Davenport too! I assumed she'd only been working a few months, but her previous review is from 2012. After 6 years, you'd think they would get around to training her. State Street Retiree Services has HORRIBLE customer service. Very polite, but useless. I've been trying to get survivor benefits paid to my dad for SEVEN months and they keep making mistakes. Even the phone survey at the end of the call is broken! This is such a difficult time trying to get documentation for my grandmother who is in a hospital bed and is extremely ill and I'm trying to get healthcare services for her i'm trying to get some proof of her pension service.
