This is solved from their heart rate approach. You have two choices to begin from the rower or the treadmill. Talk to a coach about your goals and they will guide you accordingly. If you are super competitive this might be the place for you. You can earn splat points, try to stay in the red the longest of the group or compete with yourself in the app. I think this is an amazing place for all levels of fitness. They have really innovative ways to keep members engaged throughout with gifts, pajama days, workout hell week. The coach's are helpful. If they see you doing something incorrect they will assist. The music playlist is pretty good! It's loud so you will have to put your listening skills to use, if you can't sweat, run, row and listen. This might not be a place for you. Another cool feature they have a really awesome functional app. You can purchase merch, see your progress & schedule your next class! Also you can see what new contest or themed week is coming up and participate. Now weird encounter today. I've been here for a month. It was two coaches today on the floor & the floor coach talked to me quite a lot and she seen my phone and didn't say a word... until after the class. ‍ I get it but like other places didn't say a word. I would also assume common courtesy of not recording random people while working out, that's just weird. But example I'm on the treadmill (it's pretty high) so the camera is only on me. Even if someone walks behind me you can't even see their head. I'm on the rower and you can on see me and the wall. I have over 50k of followers and I usually record my workouts at gyms since I go so many places. Definitely won be posting this one. So if you want to record this isn't the place Troy specifically! Which again is totally understandable, people usually don't bring their phone in the workout area,. They pride themselves on 60-90 minutes without your device, which I'm sure everyone could utilize. I exaggerate only slightly. When I decided that enough was enough, I gave this studio a call. They just opened in March '08 - since it's so new, I was able to snag a package discount (10%) and get to work out in relative peace with my trainer. The space is new, wide-open and minimalistic, with all of the newest gadgets that usually intimidate the hell out of me. I don't really do bigger gyms at all and have worked with a personal trainer before, so I was happy to find one close to home. There are a few trainers on staff right now. I have been working with Brad, who seriously kicks (my) ass. The workouts have been tough for this little marshmallow, but I feel so great after just about a month of sessions and can definitely perceive a difference. He is certified and has a background in sports med (kinesiology? I haven't gotten into it) so he has a physiologic approach to my workouts that I appreciate. I've seen the other patrons getting their butts kicked by the other trainer there, too. Yeah, it's spendy. It's a commitment. It's worth it to me, because I am just not one of those people who enjoys the gym or is self-motivated enough to even get there. And it works! Activity always does...

Michelle is my favorite instructor and I really like her style of teaching: she's a little in-your-face (which I think is needed for the intensity of kickboxing) and really engaging. She is really good about talking to everyone during class and making sure everyone has the correct posture/sequence down. I've been to another instructor's class once or twice but found her to be slower-paced so I mostly stick to Michelle's classes. Definitely take a yoga mat, even when you go to kickboxing classes - there is about 10 minutes of stretching at the end of every class and mats are required for this portion.

I also realized that it was one more excuse that I didn't need to avoid exercising. A long time ago, I had a really good experience with a Personal Trainer, and decided that was what I needed to do. I came across Retrofit Studio reviews here on Yelp, sort of accidentally. I liked what I read from the reviews & their website. I liked the idea of a private studio too. I called Brad & set up a consultation. There is no doubt that Brad loves what he does & wants every client to be successful. He spent a lot of time listening & talking to me about realistic goals, nutrition, and what to expect. He decided to set me up with Mark, one of his trainers. So far, I have had 8 training sessions with Mark. When Brad said he was a good fit for me, he was right! My sessions are 30 minutes, 2 times a week. By the time I leave, I am a sweaty mess! Mark challenges me, makes sure I have good form, and always encouraging. If I don't do it right, I have to do it again. Every session varies to work different muscle groups, especially the areas that are difficult to target. As hard as he makes me work, I'm never too sore to exercise in between our sessions. That is important to me because I need to do my part outside of our sessions. Mark checks with me regarding my diet and what I'm doing to reach my weight loss goals between our sessions. I always have fun training with Mark even when it's really difficult. The studio itself is great. It's very clean, doesn't smell funky like a lot of gyms (ha!), and a great variety of training techniques & equipment. There are a few cardio machines for client use before or after a session. Every trainer is always encouraging clients, whether it's their client or not. What about results? I started to feel stronger right away and continue to feel that way. I'm steadily losing weight & seeing the jiggle disappear! My muffin top is shrinking! I asked my husband if he noticed any changes. The poor guy looked at me with slight fear of answering the wrong way. ha! I wanted an honest answer. I don't expect fast results, but I am curious if the changes I see are noticeable to others. He said that he has seen a big change. He said I have been a lot happier since I started training with Mark. I wasn't expecting that answer & it made me realize I haven't felt that way about getting in shape (or trying to) in a long time. It sort of made me all verklempt! His inclusiveness really helped alleviate my fears as a deaf person in a mostly speaking environment.
