It's a really nice hotel. Friendly staff. Nice and clean. BUT, NO HOT WATER for showers.

What happened to hotels? There used to be a time when the pictures you saw of a hotel were what you got. This is not the case with Staybridge Suites in Columbus, GA. We reserved a room at least a month out from when we needed it. The website stated this was a pet friendly hotel (see picture) & we told them what we were bringing-a dog & a cat. The reservation was accepted, & we thought we were good. That is until we arrived & were told by the desk clerk that they no longer accept cats. We asked when this started because we had our reservations for a while. She couldn't tell us exactly when the policy took effect, so I asked for the policy in writing since we did not see any restrictions on the website when making the reservation. She went back to "talk to the manager" & said she didn't have it in writing. I informed her then that this "policy" couldn't be enforced & would not hold up in a court of law as it was not written anywhere. If the customers are not made aware of the new policy changes & it is no where written what pets are accepted/rejected, then you cannot turn away a reservation that was made & accepted by the company when the customer shows up. She said the manager, who is allegedly named "Mack", was going to make an "exception" to this policy & said that just for future reference we would know. I informed her there would be no future reference as we would not be coming back to this establishment ever again. That alone would be reason enough for our not returning. Unfortunately, this wasn't the only issue we encountered during our brief stay. There are more "stay off the grass" signs/spots than there are for pet potty areas, not to mention the entire front slope of the parking lot is covered in dog poop. I should have taken a picture. I have never seen so much poop (and in the front of the establishment at that). Come on IHG we expect a better presentation from your company. All the pet friendly potty places were in spots that required round about distances, except one. There is a door next to the lobby breakfast area that leads to the pool. When you go past the pool there is a pet friendly spot. However, after an entire day of using this door for our puppy who we carried, we were told that we couldn't go through there because it was a dining area, even when there wasn't food being served. Mind you this is while my puppy has to go & when he has to go it is usually a have-to-go-now thing. The lady telling me this then proceeds to coo at the puppy causing him to pee on the floor while I have to now go the long way to the pet friendly spot. I also have to add that the pet policy states $75 for up to 2 pets under 80 pounds. For stays longer than 7 days, the charge is $150. Yet for some reason, we were charged $100 for our two, which were well under 80 pounds. We will be calling them to have this corrected. This hotel is not pet friendly. Pet tolerant at best. Going back to my opening statement of hotels not being what they used to be, this hotel boasts of their pride in cleanliness (see picture). Really? Have you been to your fourth floor lately? Our room looked as though it had not been vacuumed in weeks (see picture), nor had the hallway in front of our door. Every surface of the kitchen counter had sticky gunk on it that I had to scrub off. There was no soap in the kitchen for the dishwasher or otherwise. The toilet seat looked dirty & had to be wiped down with Lysol wipes as well. Then there is the issue of mold & mildew. There was mold on the air vent (picture included) & mildew in the corner of the shower. If you ever wonder why a room is so expensive these days, it's probably due to their water bill. The shower took about 5-8 solid minutes to get warm enough on full blast. While taking a shower, more time was spent pulling the drain plug back open since it kept closing, probably since half the water that should have gone to the shower head was still coming out of the spicket. I would say though for a partial positive, the water pressure in all the sinks & the tub were GREAT, even if you have to hold the toilet lever for a full flush. On Monday, there must have been some construction going on somewhere in the wing we were in due to the incessant pounding from around 10am to 5:45pm with a small 30-minute respite around 1-1:30pm. Perhaps if there is construction being done, don't put customers in the same wing. That was a whole different level of torture. Now I don't want you to think this is all negative because it's not. The breakfast buffet was pretty great. The buffet had a nice choice selection, Sherry was nice and personable. She was very helpful to me, & I saw how she interacted with other customers who have apparently come there many times before. She made the atmosphere warm & welcoming, remembering what those people liked & she showed genuine care. Overall, would not recommend & will never return. I really hope IHG sees this review, but if not, customers will get an honest review. read more

Drove 8 hours for a wedding and checked in at 2am with my pregnant wife. Told the front desk that i was here part as part of the wedding. I got checked into the 2nd floor and majority of the wedding party is on the 4th. I wake up late obviously from getting in late. Everyone is getting ready and wife is getting ready. Then there is a knock at the door and a rude manager asking us why we were still here and not checked out. We explained we were here as part of the wedding party and we understood we had a late check out. Manager told us that the front desk person had no authority to give us late check out and we had to go. Manager leaves and then sends up house keeping. While we are in the midst of packing and getting ready for a wedding. While I didn't want to get into an argument about late check out. We were given authorization by the front desk. It is not our fault. Called customer service to discuss what happened. While IHG corporate was great this place wasnt. My wife is asian and none of the white people who were here for the wedding with late check out were kicked out. Even my cousin who is married to a white woman. I can only guess it was racism and targetting. read more

Well, the 1st room had no AC. Not the best way to start your stay after all day in GA traffic... The 2nd room, which apparently was called Non Smoking, wreaked of smoke. It also didn't have any No Smoking sign on the door. We notified the front desk, & she assured us this would be noted so that we wouldn't have any issue later. Time will tell. (we just stayed because we were too exhausted to try a 3rd room) Our floor also wreaked of weed, but that's normal for any hotel in GA - not sure why they don't just legalize, but that's a convo for another day... Also, the paper towel roll had 3 paper towels; 2 decaf coffees were provided, no regular; the 'complimentary' lotion was 1/2 full. the shower curtain leaks water all over the floor; the shower head is similar to a power-washer - attempts to adjust left me wondering if i was going to break it, so i just gave up. Even adjusting the temperature in the shower was cumbersome. I'm guessing this is this chains 1st year in business. They seem to try TOO hard, but miss the mark. We paid $119 for a suite - i think a Motel 6 would've been a better value. Oh, & some decaf tea would be nice, instead of 2 types of regular tea. read more

The rooms are badly in need of renovation. Our particular room smelled of pet urine when we called to change rooms they said they were no more rooms. I found that very hard to believe since they were only 4 cars in the parking lot. The beds are comfortable. The free breakfast was just that free and well you get what pay for. This place is exactly what you want in this type of hotel. It's super clean, the beds are comfy with white sheets and comforters (read: it all goes in the wash), the staff is sooo kind, and they have hot breakfast in the morning. Oh, and a big pool! Here's the skinny. In town for business. Checked in behind several construction workers in the "line," which is really chairs you sit on, while the ladies process you. I smelled a really strong body odor smell, and noticed that a Yelp "filtered" review had the same comment. Yeah, it was a hot Georgia day, but can't they install an air freshener at the main entrance so you're not stuck there for 10 minutes smelling foulness? Sad first impression. I loved my 4th floor smoking room. (For non-smokers do not freak out-it was on the upper floor with windows that open, and I kept them open most of the time. I also burned a fragrant candle and used air freshener. They offer very few smoking rooms and the hotel does not reek of smoke). It was clean, had everything you needed, and, to be on the safe side. I just ran the dishwasher with the items I thought I would be using for the next few days, and it worked great. They blessed me with a full size coffee pot! I brought my own starbucks and enjoyed making coffee the way I like coffee, every day. Kitchen was nice! TV channels were limited and (free) internet worked great on day 1, but couldn't access it later in the week. No automatic wake up calls, as in, you punch in the time and the system phones you. You have to dial 0 and set that up each day by speaking with the front desk personnel. Oddly, the small bathroom does not have a toilet seat cover. So, the toilet stays open all the time, if this makes sense. I did not like that, because I like to put a towel on the top of the closed toilet and place items on the clean towel to have extra space for toiletries, etc. Plus, it just seemed unsanitary. There is a good bit of construction in this area. People around there love to honk their horns, but I was never bothered by late night noise. I was looking forward to a "manager's reception" which other's mentioned as a meal in the evening and comp. wine/beer (Mon-Thurs), I showed up in the area one evening and here's the food: hot dogs. chips. complimentary soft drinks. There is nothing wrong with that, but, I was expecting more like an embassy suites type deal, or even Hampton Inn. Again, family friendly, and the kids were enjoying the hot dogs and cokes, popping in and out of the pool and the eating area in swimsuits and filling up. The "social area" where you eat is tiny, and fills up quickly so be prepared to take your hot dogs to your room or sit on the sofa and eat on our lap. Bored one evening, I decided to get ahead of the game and do laundry. I packed my own detergent and dryer sheets and did two complimentary loads. The facility had a total of ~3 freestanding washers and ~3 freestanding dryers, which is nice! One was broken. The other one took over 1 hour to dry (when the info. posted stated 20 minutes). Finally, rather than tie up the limited dryers, I just hung it up in the room and took the clothes home semi-wet. Not a deal breaker. The super-slow elevators crapped out a few times, but seemed to get repaired quickly. Staff is friendly. Parking is OK, not a super large lot. I just parked along the side doors and took the steps most of the time to avoid the odor of the front area. It took me about 30-40 minutes to drive to Ft. Benning to various work sites and the speed limit is often 25 MPH on base. Nothing great nearby, food-wise, or entertainment wise. Ate at an Applebees one night on the way home, in a nearby outdoor mall, and a sports pub around the corner another nihgt. Next door to the hotel is a odd mixture of a Thai restaurant and yogurt shop and a liquor store. I didn't notice what was on the other end. The web site photos make the pool area appear large. It is not. It is nice, but when only ~ 10 or 12 people can hang out, you'd have to get there early to get a seat. So, if you are a family with kids, this is a great place for you. I didn't try the comp. breakfast, but I'm sure it is adequate. Not far, you'll find a target; whole foods, and wal mart, so for an extended stay hotel you would be all set. Buy your food, and use the cute kitchen facilities to feed the fam. Kids can enjoy the pool and the hot dog dinner. But for the business traveler, it doesn't offer a lot, but it isn't an epic failure either. Green Features: They have a recycle bin in each room, but do not notify you what they actually recycle. The place wasn't clean. Elevator floor was filthy. In the elevator was a sign about wiping your dog's rear. The pool patio table was covered in dog hair. Saw guest walking their dog in the hallways. Beds were made but sheets looked wrinkled and as if someone had been sitting on the bed. I went there thinking that paying a little extra would get me a clean place to sleep. Staff were nice. This place is way over priced. Someone should open a Hotel with a kennel out back for those who must travel with dogs. Or a hotel that no dogs are allowed. People with dog allergies have few options if any these days to find a place free of dog dander. read more

If there's a Staybridge, it's always my first choice. Nice, clean rooms. Full kitchen with popcorn and coffee. Bathtub/shower - awesome! Quiet! Tv works well and love the swivel top. Beds and sheets were comfortable, slept well. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because of breakfast. While it's good, it's not as good as other Staybridge I've stayed at. read more

The staff was excellent! They made the stay awesome. I do enjoy the fact they offer breakfast every morning. A dinner is offered on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings with complimentary alcoholic beverages. I read other reviews about odd smells throughout. I experienced this as well. But not in my room. My room was just fine. The staff went above and beyond making the stay excellent. read more

I would not recommend staying at this hotel while in Columbus, not only did I have to park across the street since there was no parking at the hotel, absolutely none of the outlets worked in my room. I requested to change to another room but was told the hotel was booked for the evening and there were no other rooms available. The only lights that worked were the ceiling lights, but as none of the outlets worked I had no where to charge my phone, no where to plug my hair tools, no TV, no way to charge my work laptop, and no bed side lights available. One final (albeit random) note was that while I was walking to the elevator to head to my room, there was a guy and group of people who were standing in the vacinity of the elevator with a pitbull...super random to have in a hotel common area. I would certainly recommend you look elsewhere for a hotel in the Columbus area! read more

Well we don't know much about the property because we didn't stay there. We had our room paid in full and they called us at 5:30 the afternoon we were to check in. They informed us we couldn't stay because they had overbooked. Very disappointed. Very unprofessional. Ridiculous. read more

Front desk clerks were very apologetic for errors that weren't their's. House keeping needs retraining Tho. 2 bedroom suite and you forget to make up one of the beds in a room. Forgotten shower curtain. Garbage can not emptied. Suite was very visibly NOT vacuumed. Light bulbs burned out. Had to ask for dish soap replacement and toilet paper. Hotel was busy but not busy enough in my opinion to warrant these tasks not being done over a 4 night stay. My family will be returning next month and I'm sorry to say we won't be staying at Staybridge. read more

Never have we seen a front desk vacant so often at ANY STAYBRIDGE ? 80% of the time we saw " use the house phone to get the front desk". Hallway had a very FUNKY odor... On 4th floor and the entry to the elevator.. Elevators seemed unresponsive a few times over the weekend ?? Also if u have pets they are allowed... But not a lot of places to walk the Around this property.. The front desk vacancy is very odd for this chain... read more

My family is in town for a Ranger School graduation and booked a room for Wednesday-Friday night. In the middle of our 5 hour drive, we were told the hotel overbooked and had no room for us on Wednesday night. The hotel representative was not concerned that we had no where to stay for the night. Luckily found a room for Wednesday, but then we were told on Thursday that we only had 1 room out of the 2 that were booked. We have 6 people so that was not acceptable. Again, the hotel representative did not seem to care that mistakes had been made. We were told we would be upgraded to a larger suite to accommodate 6 people, but then went to check in and they said we were never told that. We were then told that we could have a suite with two rooms with two beds each plus a pullout couch and when we got to the room there were only 3 beds instead of 4. It is sad that a company has to lie to make money. The hotel is so poorly managed and it is obvious that employees nor managers care. This is no way to treat anyone, but especially not a military family. Employees are poorly trained and managers could not care less. The only person who attempted to help at all was the woman running the front desk on Thursday afternoon. She was obviously stressed due to the overbooking that management allowed to happen and was doing her best. Employees should not have to suffer due to greedy, money-hungry management who are too cowardly to come in to speak with customers. I hope the manager of this hotel is publicly shamed due to their treatment of military members and families. Do not go through the hassle of dealing with this hotel when there are plenty of other hotels in the area. Shame on the management of this hotel. P.S. There is no hot water in the shower. My husband and I stayed here for a week with our two dogs. I give Staybridge Suites 4 stars. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly during my stay. They were accommodating and helpful when I had a concern or question. They also made our dogs feel welcome. I knocked my rating corn from a 5 star to a 4 star because I felt the breakfast could use a makeover. It lacked fresh fruit and a verity. The same exact choices were given every single morning and it made me wonder if they were recycling food from the previous morning... I enjoyed the being able to use the free laundry room! I've stayed at this hotel going on two years on and off. This place has pulled a complete 180 6 months ago I gave this place a 1 star review but now the staff is friendlier more attentive, things are cleaner and it's being ran like a hotel instead of a hang out for the employees friends. When my kids come with me and stay here the staff is super nice and overly understanding. The food is always good and Mrs. Sherry's cakes are amazing she's always happy to see you and goes above and beyond the call of duty to help with my kids. I would suggest staying here to anyone looking for a home away from home in the Columbus area. read more

I have to stay here quite often lately because of work... The staff makes you feel like family...it's clean, the rooms are extremely practical as far as long term use go and they have a decent laundry facility on premises, great pool area, fire pit and they know how to make the guests feel welcome. There's a great breakfast in the mornings and the best part is they are animal lovers with a small doggie park in the back. Yes, I recommend others to stay here and most of all they genuinely love our military and they are now all HOCKEY fans too! :) read more

Every time that I come to the Columbus area, this hotel is my top choice. For starters, the staff is always top notch. Everyone from the front desk managers to the house cleaning staff, and everyone you meet in between is phenomenal. Charlie, Sabrina, and literally every staff member that I've had the pleasure of meeting have always been cheerful, helpful and make you feel right at home. On my most recent trip, Sherry (the kitchen manager) made the most delicious pot roast I think I've ever had. My boyfriend and I told her how much we liked it, and she gave us the recipe so that we could make it at home! Which brings me to.... ...the food. Every Tuesday-Thursday night, the hotel offers a Social Hour meal for their guests. This is paired with drink tickets for each 21+ adult who is staying in the hotel, and the menu changes every week. Did I mention it is REAL food?! Sherry does an excellent job planning and carrying out the weekly meals. On top of the included dinners during the week, the hotel offers a daily complimentary breakfast for it's guests. The breakfast offers a variety of choices from scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, waffles, breakfast sausages, chicken patties and/or bacon. There is also juice, cereal, cottage cheese, toast, etc. There is even a huge selection of different coffees and teas to choose from in the main entrance. The rooms themselves are spacious, clean and very comfortable! I am usually not the best sleeper when it comes to sleeping away from home. Here, I sleep just as well as if I were in my own bed - I definitely have the best sleep I have had on the road before. I feel safe not only in the hotel, but also when I walk out into the parking lot by myself. The location is safe and nearby to grocery stores, Target, a quick drive away to Flat Rock Park. There is even a liquor store conveniently located right across the parking lot of the hotel - just a quick minute walk (if that) from the doors of the hotel. If you are staying at the hotel for business at Fort Benning, the hotel is only about 20-25 minutes away from the front gates. This might seem a little further than some of the other choices in the area, but the location of the hotel in terms of security, value and experience is definitely worth the trade-offs that come with being 10-15 minutes closer. I cannot tell you how pleased I am to have been a guest here. I have nothing remotely negative to say about any experience I've had with this hotel and it's fabulous staff. Stayed here twice for five days at a time. The staff is hands down the best part of this hotel. They are friendly, kind and genuine. I think they get a lot of regulars and make an effort to remember faces. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. Yea, the location around all the construction is annoying but dealable. There are shopping centers with a mile from the hotel to get all kinds of great food. Morning breakfast is fantastic. read more

Staff was extremely friendly and nice. Stayed two nights. Hotel is in a good location and looks beautiful outside. However, inside we also experienced a strong smell of body odor in the hallways as noted by another reviewer. When we first arrived we thought the odor was from someone who may have just walked by before we came in but the odor never left. Every time we would enter from the street we would be greeted with a smell of B.O. My room also have a smell that really smelled like cat urine to me in the vanity area. Really odd that a hotel that looks this nice has such ad smells. Our biggest issue was the air conditioning ...it is awful! It is either on full blast and the room becomes absolutely freezing, or you have to turn it off and then the room becomes too hot to sleep. We tried adjusting it on the wall and the unit and nothing worked. I even asked a mail and nothing worked. We battled this for two nights and did not sleep well either night because of the temperature of the room. Breakfast was good and the staff really was super nice. Sadly, I would not stay here again unless they corrected the air conditioning and also the smell. read more

I checked in at this hotel on June 30th 2017 at 6pm from a long flight from Phoenix az. My reservation had been confirmed weeks before the trip and when I showed up, the immediate response of the front desk, the room is no longer available and she was giving me an upgrade to a standard 2 queen.sized bed room. My reservation was a king suite with kitchen. My immediate reaction was, how did that become an upgrade. She continued on with her robotic lie and I told her she needs to figure it out through escalation. I feel sorry for her for the lack or no training at all with customer service. She stepped away multiple times and not said anything although it seemed like she was trying to figure out what she needed to do with my reservation. She is not equipped to run a hotel front desk by herself yet although she had been with the company for a year. I solely blame the company for not being responsible enough to put the right people for the job. Very disappointed... how did I end up getting my original reservation? Another customer switched with me... we figured it out. We did the work for her since it's too.much for her to handle. read more
