When we got to the port, we met at representative from Civita Tours who informed us of their transfer bus service - Civitavecchia to FCO airport for only $50 Euros for two! So we signed up. Then, while on the cruise, we learned that a transfer from the cruise port to the airport was included in the cost of our tickets. So, we cancelled the order with Civita Tours. Frankly I was worried that I would never get that refund. However, not to worry. We received the refund as requested. This is a credible, reputable outfit, and I would definitely consider using them for transfers and tours in the future.

Took the train 2 hours to Civitavecchia. The hotel is feet away from the train station. Hotel concierge was able to arrange a taxi to pick us up and take us to the cruise port the next morning. Hotel is walkable to shops and restaurants as well. Staff is primarily Italian speaking so we had a hard time communicating being English speaking only. We communicated using WhatsApp with no issues. It's within walking distance of the cruise ship area. The train station is just a 5-minute walk away, and buses to the cruise port stop about 3 minutes from the hotel. The bus fare is €6 and conveniently drops you off inside the cruise ship terminal. For the convenience and the friendly service, I would definitely choose this hotel again.

It can be noisy due to its location near fire station, ambulances and busy streets. I recommend you stay here for the reasonable price and proximity to the port and city attractions.

Our travel agent dropped the ball and we…read morediscovered shortly before leaving home that we had no lodging in Rome the night before the cruise, nor did we have transfers from Rome to the ship in Civitavecchia, which is an hour-plus drive. I won't go into all the details, but the alternatives she offered us were all unacceptable and overpriced. We decided to take matters into our own hands despite the language barrier. With the help of Google Maps, we found the Hotel Traghetto in Civitavecchia. I engaged in several rounds of email correspondence (sent in both English and an Italian translation thanks to Google Translate) with hotel staffers Michele (that's the Italian form of Michael) and Nicola, who both responded to my many detailed questions promptly despite the nine-hour time difference, regardless of whether I sent my messages in the morning or the evening, and they responded in perfect English every time. Not only was the Hotel Traghetto only 99 Euros per night (a bargain compared to the 600+ Euros we would have paid for lodging in Rome), but they also arranged to have a taxi waiting for us at Fiumicino/Da Vinci Airport. Marco, the taxi driver, was right outside baggage claim holding a sign with our name on it. He took our bags and drove us (fast! Apparently if you pay a fee, you can drive on roads where the speed limit is 130km/hr - that's 80mph for us Yanks) directly to the hotel. We paid him 130 Euros in cash for this speedy service, and it was worth every bit. When we entered the hotel, we were greeted by (forgive me, it's been three weeks and I'm jetlagged) either Luigi or Giovanni at the front desk, who checked us in and took our bags up to our room, while insisting that we be seated in the adjoining parlor, where Marina served us complimentary cappuccino, which was a welcome break after such a long journey (see photo of my husband). We then went up to our room to freshen up before taking a stroll around town. During our stay, we asked Luigi and Giovanni (whoever was manning the front desk at any given time) many questions about where we should eat, where we could find a pharmacy, where we could buy souvenirs, where we could find the free shuttle bus to the ship (literally around the corner!), and each time we were given a free map that they marked up for us: "You are here. Go out the front door, turn this way, and the place you are looking for is over here." The next morning, we enjoyed a complimentary buffet breakfast, again attended by Marina, and much better food than you would get at any hotel in the U.S. The room was basic by American standards, but you must remember that all we were seeking was a place to sleep for one night between our arrival in Italy and embarking on our cruise, so our needs were minimal. The only negative thing I can say is that the beds were beyond firm. I like a firm mattress, but these were super hard. Still, that was a small price to pay for all of the pluses to this place. The staff was awesome and delivered on every single promise made on the website and then some! We would 100% stay there again!

That alone made me thrilled to have selected the Borgo for my wedding! This beautiful farmstay is about 30 minutes from the city (Rome). Once you arrive, you can literally feel the mayhem of the city and any concerns just melt away. It's serene, it's lush, the air is fresh and the accommodations are comfortable. The entire staff are among the most accommodating hosts I've ever met and put me at total ease when making decisions, changing plans, or dealing with unexpected issues. They were also just incredibly kind to me, my husband, and our guests. We got married at the end of December and it was still beautiful (especially the light at dusk), so I can only imagine how lush and romantic any other time of year is here. This is a charming location for a special event - they will accommodate a large or small party. The food was beyond delicious (especially because I hadn't eaten pasta, dairy, or sweets for months before arriving) and the wine was always fantastic (I think we depleted their stock;)). The farm area is set back from the buildings - about 5+ minutes walk following a path - and it was such a pleasure to greet the goats, chickens, pigs, and rabbits during a morning walk (also perfect if you have children with you). Mind you, if you're considering the Borgo as a wedding venue, it's quite reasonably priced - and it's an experience you will never forget. Found this spot on Trip Advisor and would like to share it with my fellow Yelpers. We were looking for our hotel which was walking distance from the train station but had a hard time finding it due to lack of street signs. Don't try finding this place at night unless you know where you're going. My boyfriend and I walked around for quite a bit with no luck so we walked back to the train station and were able to get a cab to take us there. Again, it's hard to find at night so cab it instead. Our room was cozy and we were able to sleep well. There was no blow dryer, so make sure to bring your own and an adapter. Unfortunately, I blew out my hair straightener which left me without one for about 3 weeks while traveling throughout Europe (but that's a different story) ha! Just make sure your straightener has dual voltage and you'll be fine. Make sure to have Euros. When we paid, the preferred method of payment was in cash. The owner Rosanna was very sweet and asked how our stay was. Very hospitable. She even offered us something to eat before we headed out. We had to leave to catch our ship, but thanked her for her hospitality.

But we didn't want to have a long wait, we needed a reliable company to drop us in front of our vessel and also to pick us up right in front without wait and hassle on the way back. So we chose this company, they work directly with the port authority, so their cars will have easy access into the port area right to your cruise ship. We booked many weeks in advance to make sure of our transportation. You also can book and/or organise a shared transfer with them if available. We got picked up on time in Rome - the driver was even a bit early. Friendly guy. Got a minivan for the two of us - so plenty of space. Got to the port without problems in about 70mins. On the way back the driver (not the same guy) was already there as well when we disembarked. Traffic was hell that day and all major streets in Rome completely jammed. The Driver took us around many side streets to save some time and we made it to the Train station way before our departure time. You just have to get used to the Italian driving style a bit. But we are in Italy a lot and do our own driving there as well, so no shock here for us. The prices are a fixed rate, so no worries there. The shared transfers are a lot cheaper, the Private Transfer costs 200 Euros (plus tax). It's not cheap - but very well organised and convenient. You pay in advance or directly with your Driver. Besides the a bit hefty price (which we knew about) we were very happy with our choice.
