It serves mostly as a commuter rail station for people working in Rome and living in this area, so trains are more frequent at rush hours. Since this review is in English, I'll leave some suggestions for foreign visitors: Language: Do not expect to encounter people that speak English here. You may get lucky, but this is not a station that serves many tourists. Be prepared with a language translator or English-Italian dictionary to help. The people are generally very friendly and helpful, so long as you don't expect that they speak English. Arriving: If you have lots of luggage, be aware that there is no elevator here. No matter which platform you arrive at, you will need to walk down roughly 24 stairs, and back up again on the station side. So if you have lots of luggage, be prepared. There is, however, a ramp at the far north side that reduces the steps a bit. Transportation Options at the station: If you are making a connection onto another train, it is pretty hard to go wrong. The station is small enough that it is hard to miss a connecting train. However, if this area is your final rail destination, there is not much in terms of transportation. There is a bus route that serves many of the neighboring towns, as well as Viterbo. Times are posted at the station, and you can get tickets at the station cafe. Beware that nights and weekends, the bus operates on a VERY thin schedule. You will generally NOT find a taxi at this station, as this is a more rural area of the country where taxis are extremely rare. There are NOT car rentals at the Orte station. Even though you may have seen car rental agencies in Orte, they are not at the station, and they are simply agents for some of the rental companies that only have cars if you reserve ahead, and do not meet you at the station. These should be avoided. Departing: If you are leaving FROM this station to another destination, do not rely on the ticket office being open. There are two automatic ticket machines here, but they only accept credit cards with an embedded microchip and PIN (Not common in much of the world). One of the machines does accept cash, so be prepared with bills large enough to buy your ticket. Parking: If you are taking a day trip out of here, you will see that the parking lot is somewhat small, usually full, and fairly expensive. There is ANOTHER lot behind the station that is quite large and has flat rate daily parking. Much less expensive. If you park there, there is a walking tunnel that takes you to the back-side of the station. It is VERY convenient. Services: The station has a Bar/Cafe that is almost always open. They have panini, cookies, beverages, seating, and naturally coffee, tea, alcohol, etc. You can purchase bus tickets and get some limited help here. There is also a newsstand at the station that is mostly open for the commuter hours.

Ensure you validate your ticket (green and white boxes located at the train platform) before getting on the train. I found two machines attached to the exterior wall on Platform One. Inside the station, one tv screen shows in the lobby displays arrivals and the other tv displays departures. The station is clean, simple, and efficient. The Trenitalia app is bad. There is an office but no one is available to assist with difficult-to-understand timetables. The Trenitalia website is the easiest source of information, There is parking in the front of the station for people to pickup and drop off train riders. I never saw cabs at the train station.

We came here in March with the goal of visiting Civita de Bagnoregio. We read a blog online that said that at our arrival to Stazione Orvieto we would find taxis that could takes us to Bagnoregio. Well, that was not the case because March is considered low season and the station was pretty much empty, so keep that in mind next time you visit Orvieto. With that aside, Orvieto's station has a pretty nice café/store where you can purchase souvenirs, wine and other stuff before getting your next train. They also have one ATM near the train rails where you can withdraw some cash before moving on with your trip. People here are very welcoming, but don't expect them to speak English to you. There is a great wine section and coffee is made-to-order. There is a real person in the Trenitalia ticket booth. Across the street is the funicular to take you up the hill to the old town of beautiful Orvieto. The tickets are good for 1:30.

It is seriously deceiving just how massive Stazione Termini is until you are actually inside…read morewalking it. It feels less like a standard train station and more like a mega-mall that happens to have tracks attached. The selection of stores, cafes, and markets here is fantastic--you can easily kill an hour shopping or grabbing a great bite to eat while waiting for a departure. Just a heads-up: give yourself plenty of extra time to reach your train. The platforms here are incredibly long, and if your train is assigned to one of the regional tracks or a high-speed engine waiting far down the line, it can be a massive, unexpected walk to get to your carriage. Keep your eyes on the departure boards and don't linger at the shops too long.

It's super busy but conveniently is very close to a lot of stuff in Rome, so for day trips or if you are staying nearby it's very convenient. This is definitely not my favorite train station but it's also a super useful tool for getting around. Just prepare yourself for a bit of a chaotic arrival and you will be totally fine. The uber pickup area is a little hard to find, through a nondescript hallway, but getting an Uber worked pretty easily for us. In the past I've had no issues getting cabs as well - at least not no more issue than anywhere else in Rome.

The entrance to Saint Peter's Square was just a few short blocks from here. As to be expected the surrounding area had a very high traffic of tourists and some pretty good restaurants ranging in prices. I even found a Jollibee nearby. Unfortunately, the fare gate was very slow in processing my credit card. One time, it even stopped working for everyone. They had to open a door to let us through.

It's outside of town, and I wouldn't recommend walking. Our group got lucky when we asked a taxi man how to get into town. He called a taxi for us, which you're apparently supposed to do because taxis don't sit at the station. Fortunately, the permitted cab came quick and delivered us to our hotel fairly quickly. It's one of those stations you just deal with for travel's sake. You're not going to have a picnic or shoot selfies here.
