Needed a quick bite for lunch as I was traveling and it was getting late. I saw this Steak n Shake and had to stop in. I had the best server, she was younger and super nice and helpful. I did see some interactions with the other server who seemed less personable and angry at the world so very happy that I lucked out. I selected a Number 1 Combo with Fries and a diet coke. It had the original double steakburger with cheese and I added onion, lettuce, pickle, ketchup and mustard. It was $6.28 before tax. What a great price if you think about it. I went through the drive thru this evening and got terrible customer service and my order was wrong TWICE! The man working the drive thru acted like he was mad at the world. He was rude, throwing my bags thru the window at me. My I looked in the kids meal bag, I saw that it had a hotdog instead of the steak burger that I ordered. When I pointed it out, he said "Oh I thought you ordered a frank". What? That doesn't even sound the same! He angrily asks, what you want on it? I said "nothing, plain". Well after he angrily through that bag at me, I got halfway down the road and my kid tells me there's cheese melted on it. I clearly said I wanted it plain. I was excited to stop in while in the area for the day. Almost all of the locations have closed in the Cleveland area. We dined in as a party of 6. We were sat in a reasonable amount of time. The place was pretty busy as is expected on a Saturday. Everything was as it should be. The service was friendly and fast; the food hot and tasty. I don't have any negatives regarding my visit. I'll be sure to stop in again the next time I am in Athens. read more

The Athens steak and shake is the best I've ever had, after trying others, they are the best. Service is great, you don't even need to check your order when going through the drive thru. My only problem is the phone app doesn't work, I've tried for months now. I can't access the deals, for discounts. Please find a way to get it fixed, I can't be the only one with this problem. I like to order my food on line. The problem always seams to be, when I select Paypal for payment, it won't process. I've spoken to the store personally, I'm told it's handled by 3rd party. You know, a lot of people won't review fast food restaurants unless they want to criticize that particular store, especially if it is part of large chain. I don't review that many (as we have gotten older we eat in these places less often except when on the road) but I find that I often review them when things are particularly good. I like to give compliments especially in the times of COVID restrictions. We had never eaten at a Steak 'n Shake before; each time we went to stop at one near us in Texas, it was packed (which we assumed was a good sign). While driving through Ohio, we decided it was time to stop here. It was drive-thru only so we had to take a few minutes extra at the outdoor menu to decide what to buy. The drive-thru people were patient with us and helpful, and the food was good. When the opportunity presents itself, we will be back. read more

First time ever visit to the chain. Friendly staff and food came out quickly. Got the BBQ Bacon burger which was tasty. Perfect size, not too big. Bun was good. Skinny fries which are not my jam but they were plentiful and tasted okay. Can't believe the chain has been around as long as it has and I'm just now giving them a try but that has been the motto for this trip. Apple Pay support at POS was welcome though it gave no indication it could be used it worked. Restaurant was clean and well kept up. They won't be my first choice when I'm in the mood for a burger but now I know they are a solid choice given the opportunity. read more

Came down from canton on a bus stop and had to wait 3 hours for the next bus, had a guy serve me good food the first hour but hadn't seen me for the next 90 minutes. I went to the counter and ordered a milkshake and paid my bill tho so we're good. Website states they close at 2:00 AM but when I arrived at 11:59 PM, they refused me service. There were two other cars that got served in front of me even tho they had arrived just before me. Bugs in my fries. Second batch has me wondering what is seasoning and what was moving. Otherwise, heard they do Cincinnati chili and since our town doesn't have skyline was eager to give it a try. Small portion, not good, and their "hot sauce" is Franks so unable to out-heat the poor flavor. (Not knocking franks but it's a buffalo sauce not a hot sauce) And bugs... $5 cruddy chili $2 buggy fries $2 tip Has me wishing I stopped by Wendy's for a JBC and spicy bugs... I mean nugs. For $3. Probably one of the cheapest and best fast food places around. Always happy with the food. Service is touch and go.

The sad part about this is that the food is absolutely amazing, best food I've had at any steak 'n shake. The service however? Absolutely horrendous, our server never brought us our drinks, the manager ended up coming to ask what we had ordered for drinks and he brought them literally thirty seconds before the waitress came with our food. She then dropped the food and the bill without asking if we needed anything else. We never saw her again after that, no refills, no dessert. I came here with my family on a road trip. It was very clean and remodeled. I had a Frisco melt however the cheese was not melted. I ordered a large cheese fry and they brought me a large chili fry no big deal my husband ate the whole chili fry and they gave us another cheese fry and let us keep the chili fry for free. The strawberry shake my daughter had was delicious. The staff was exceptionally friendly they sat us at a nice clean table served us and took our order right away. It was noon on a Wednesday afternoon so the staffing at that time was great. Very kid friendly clean bathrooms good food will stop again. read more

This is the worst Steak n' Shake I have ever been to. Our waitress was rude, charged us for things we didn't order, and all of the staff stared at us when we entered. I don't know what we did to deserve such bad treatment. Even after our meal, and tipping well (even after getting terrible treatment) she continued to say things with a condescending, tone to me as we were leaving. I waited 20 minutes at the ordering speaker in the drive-thru line, just to order a milkshake, and then received the most disappointing milkshake I've ever had. It was supposed to be mint chocolate chip, and had a hint of mint and ice chunks. By the time I got it, the line from waiting 20 minutes at the speaker had backed up to seven cars, so I drove home and lived with it. Slowest Steak 'n Shake I've ever experienced. This business often closes early even though hours say open until 2am. When it comes to orders on doordash if you order after 1:30 they won't make it. Also, they seem to not care to change their hours with their third party affiliate doordash. So, you can place your order and spend your money even though they won't make it after certain times! They could care less about your money or if you want food. read more

Not as good as others we've been to. Fries weren't fresh; Hamburger burnt and old tasting meat, and no paper towels in the restroom. Waitress never checked back and no one asked how our food was.
