I love coming here but I just left and our waitress was very rude and then we had to ask 2 times for our cookie and applesauce which comes with the meal, she gave us an attitude. It took 20 minutes from the time we placed our order to get our sides and our food had been gone. I sat there waiting for about 10 minutes before my other food came out! After a long night of putting the floor down at the crew stadium for concert (fund raiser), we stop in for a late dinner... 10:00. They were very accommodating to our needs for our group of approximately 16. Brittney was our waitress and immediately got everyone water, promptly took drink orders, delivered, and took food orders. She even saw i was drink alot of water and brought out pitchers of water for everyone... smart thinking on her part. While I don't typically frequent Steak n' Shake, I decided to go today because it's my daughters 7th birthday and we wanted to get birthday milkshakes before the park. I'm glad I stopped here, not for any other reason other than the exceptional customer service that we received from Melby. My daughter was playing the claw game and she was very disappointed that she couldn't win the cow she wanted. Melby saw her disappointment and proceeded to play the game for her with his own money so that he could make her day special by winning the cow stuffed animal, which he did! She was so thrilled. He completely made her day. I'm forever grateful for his kind heart. He was also very attentive to us even though we only had milkshakes. Your location is very lucky to have him. I would give a ZERO stars if I could. Bad service and they tried to serve us food that had literally sat in the serve hatch for over 10 minutes. My chicken sandwich and fries were decent tasting and warm but I'd rather spend $2 at Wendy's and get the same thing. I don't think there's anything terribly wrong with this Steak 'n Shake. Whenever we visit Columbus, this is the location we come to. It's usually around lunch time and they're usually busy, but we get seated fairly quickly and our food doesn't take too long to come out. I understand it's Christmas day. We saw the restaurant open while on the way home and stopped in as we have visited this location many times over the years. It was what I consider normal customer traffic in both the drive thru and inside. We were promptly seated, no issue initially. 15 - 20 minutes go by and no service, no drinks, no order taken. Staff pass us by several times in normal demeanor. I even pushed the menus out over the edge of the table as far as they would defy gravity and made eye contact with two employees but the hints weren't taken. The last straw for me was when the booth next to us was waited on when they arrived 5-10 minutes after us. We didn't throw a fit, didn't make a scene, we were one of those "silent" customers that got up and left. Again, I realize it's Christmas day, but if you are going to be open and make people work, setting the expectation for customers who keep business going, then deliver. Never gave us silverware, nor came to check and see if we even needed anything! Towards the end of our meal, my cup was bumped and my water was spilled. By far the worst meal I've eaten in a long time! I ordered a country skillet. They were out of the hash browns that came with it. The sausage was rubbery. The gravy was watery. After the other two people who were with me got their food I had to wait on biscuits, that were hard and tasteless. I couldn't even eat most of my meal. The restaurant itself was like any other Steak 'N Shake. This one had good portion sizes, food came out quickly, and was very tasty as well! The problem that we had was our server. Wasn't very good at all. Just for example, (not a big deal) he forgot to put my milkshake in a togo cup like we asked him to begin with. The biggest flaw we had with him is that he went to another table he was taking care of (his friends) and decided to chat and gossip with them for 15 minutes, while in the mean time we just sat there waiting for him to return so we could get a togo box and leave. He never returned and continued chatting. So my fiance went and asked another server if they could get us one, and she gladly did. This place is disgusting. Additionally, service is painfully slow and delivered with a scowl - they WILL let you know that your presence is an unwelcome burden on their day. Table and seats were filthy. Looked like a decade of grime had accumulated. Floors were littered with food, dirty napkins and God knows what else. Should have known better than to attempt to use the restroom - this was by far the most disturbing and nauseating part of the whole experience. The floors were grimey, the toilet seats were disgusting (I've seen cleaner in gas stations), and worst of all ... there was NO SOAP to wash hands! So HOW exactly are the cooks and waitresses washing their hands after using this filthy restroom and before making our food?!! Ewww! And I already ate! Ugh. This location is only getting 1 star because I have to give it something in order to post my review. My opinion of steak and shake as a company is overall good but this location was awful. My family and I had to wait 7 mins to be seated and when they did seat us the waiter just threw the menus down on a dirty table i had to get the staff to wash the tables and even when they washed the tables down they did not use any disinfectant or cleaner. The waitress came to the table to take our order and we had 2 kids in the bathroom and as soon as they sat down she was back again. The kids hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu. When I told her that we were still not ready to order she walked off In disgust like I was putting her out. When we finally got our order the milkshakes were watery as if they had been sitting for a long time she did not put my youngest who is 3 order in and she got my order wrong. So we had to wait another 15 minutes for our food while the rest of the family ate. Waitress didn't ring in the orders correctly. When we finally got the rest of our food the rest of the family was done and my daughter and I had just started to eat. When I opened my burger the tomato they used still had the core in it. My wife and I finally said today was the last time we would go to a Steak and Shake. We've been to 4 different Steak and Shakes and they have all been bad. We've been to Polaris, Easton, Hilliard, and somewhere on the way to Cedar Point. There have been more than one of those locations that your shoes actually stuck to the floor, and all generally felt like they were dirty. Today the burger I had was pressed on the grill so much that the ends of it were crispy flavorless sections of leather. My wife got a bacon burger, and it came with just that, and no condiments. One hour after we left My wife, my son, and I were all in dire need of water....salty!! Every visit has been a low enough experience to where we have asked ourselves "why did we come here". read more

We love the food, but be prepared to stand at the door for no reason. More than once have I walked out after standing at the door, looking at clean, empty tables... staring at employees that stare back at you, as if you were invisible. I have even seen management walk past a waiting crowd to deliver a plate, and walk right back to the kitchen. How long he had it who knows. I would suggest going through the drive thru for a to go order or just not visit this location. Not only were we dissatisfied with the service, but we found the entire restaurant to be filthy. Floors looked they haven't been mopped - ever - and bathrooms were just as bad. When we walked into the restaurant, we saw a sign that warned us that they are understaffed and that service would be bad. It was around 930pm and the dining room wasn't crowded. The drive through line was closed, so everyone from the drive thru was getting take out and being waited on before us, who wanted to be seated. It took about 15-20 min before an employee even acknowledged our presence. The food came quickly, but my burger and fries weren't hot. The children's meals were a rip off!! Mac n cheese was so tiny of a portion - it wasn't even enough for my 3 year old!!! The children's plate came dangerously hot- had to take the plate away from the kids so they wouldn't get burned, even though the food wasn't actually hot. Our milkshake order was delivered to the table incorrectly, and the waitress didn't offer to correct it. Would not return to this establishment. Should have taken the hint when we saw the warning of bad service before walking in!!! read more

My dad and I went to Steak 'n Shake at the polaris location at 2 am, and our server (Nathan) was courteous to all of the people in the restaurant despite the fact that there were 3 servers in the entire restaurant with over 100 customers. What made him so good, was the fact that he seemed to be the only actual server, he was on top of getting all of our drinks in a timely fashion, he was very genial, got everything right the first time, if you needed him for anything he was more than willing to help,and the fact that he was doing this at 2 am while doing more work than any 4 other workers in that restaurant. The food was good as always, but what really made the experience was Nathan. I work at a restaurant so I know how taxing it can get so the fact that he was still smiling was really refreshing (especially after having worked at said restaurant before coming in) and my dad has been a manager for 40 years, and he was also incredibly impressed with Nathan's work.
