Swensons has went down hill. This location takes forever to get food out, and that food is bad. I got a galley boy, their literal staple item, and it was burnt. Well I took a co worker with me to this location in Hilliard. The server was good and attentive but the way he talked up the spicy Hot Chicken sandwich was,to me. Way over stated. He said it was the best thing on the menu, has Cole slaw and crumbled blue cheese and their special hot sauce. We both ordered on and I also got a 1/4 pounder with cheese pickles onions etc. So both of us agreed the chicken was just okay, nothing close to what I expected based on the server's recommendation. Not his fault maybe he really does like the sandwich but we were not impressed. Now the fries were great, spot on and my 1/4 pounder was also really good as usual. Can I mark ZERO stars?? Worst experience. First off- we ordered online; then waited 45 minutes., from when we parked. When the waiter came to give us our food, he admitted to writing the wrong number on our order; and when we mentioned the extremely long wait, we got an excuse of "I'm the only server and I had to put in the other orders and deliver them, you can feel free to call the manager".... Okay, well the kitchen is behind, and we ordered online, so orders by the eight other cars in the lot, shouldn't cause a delay that long. He honesty just told us to call his manager to complain Secondly, our food was subpar. Everything was all cold. The burgers were over cooked, the size of the burgers was extremely small per usual (and none of us got an olive), and the bag of fries and potato puffs were only half full (see photos). This was the first time I really enjoyed Swenson's. Never been a big fan. I think it's overhyped. I've been to locations in Akron and Columbus, and it's not bad- it's just okay food, nothing amazing. The headlight ordering setup and the running seem like gimmicks. But this time it worked. Service was fast. Prices are decent. And you get food that, while not as amazing as the hype and nostalgia indicate, is better than McDonald's for about the same price. I got a double cheeseburger with assorted toppings , "potato teasers" (potatoey cheesy mounds with a bit of jalapeño,) and an egg salad sandwich, plus a Pepsi. They came to me a soon as I pulled up and brought out a menu quickly. You kinda have to have to know what you want otherwise; there's no menu on most sides of the building. The burger this time was good. Not over the top incredible, but very good. Good bun, tasty meat, fresh toppings. The potato teasers are fine. Again, nothing amazing. Egg salad: pretty standard. A lot like what I would make at home. On toasted bread, so it held up till I got to work. No celery, a little bit of pickle relish I think. Tasty, not messy. Thanks, Swenson's. I remember hearing about Swensons when they started opening more locations around the city. I wasn't interested since I was pretty disappointed by my burger adventures in Columbus. Not many burgers that I like here. My sister suggested checking this place out so we came on a Thursday evening. Not super busy close to 9pm. A few cars. The ordering system is similar to Sonic, except it's just one parking lot. You turn your car lights on for service, although it was already dark so my lights were already on. They put your order into their iPad thing then being out the order to you. They seemed understaffed as I only saw 2 people running around to take orders. They were pretty nice to chat with! And the food was ready pretty fast! We both got the Galley burgers (a double patty cheeseburger with their housemade sauce) with a side of onion rings and zucchini fries. We also decided to try some sort of mint milkshake that is made with ginger ale. Everything tasted delicious! And all for a good price too. The burgers were both around $5.50 each. I liked both of the sides we got, although the zucchini fries could've been a bit more seasoned. I don't usually crave burgers, but I don't mind stopping by here if I do! read more

The other night I had came into Swensons ready with my usual order in mind... A classic double cheese and some teezers. My server Bradley had given me the most unique recommendation that turned out immaculate, never had I thought Mac and cheese belonged on a burger but I was for sure wrong. Genuinely terrible service. I downloaded yelp just to leave this review because I've never been this upset about how terrible service has been. Had us waiting for close to 2 hours because they lost our order and had to reorder our food. At first we were pretty understanding but after an hour and a half passed, we started to get a little irritated. They kept telling us it would be 5-10 minutes but the food never came. Wouldn't have been as upset as I am now but then when we expressed that it was frustrating the workers started arguing back with us instead of apologizing and pushing our order up. I have been going to Swenson's since the OG days!! I grew up in the Akron area, so you can say I am one of the beginners, before it coming to Cbus!! I absolutely love this place!! It is perfect for young kids all the way up to old. I love what you can get here from different milkshakes, burgers, sides, anything really! The best drive in in the area, no doubt! We were in the area and did a quick online order, for which we were quoted 20 minutes and instructed to turn on our lights when we arrived. There was still a bit of a wait when we arrived, but we saw a car hop hustling around trying to grab everyone's orders, and it seemed busy. The staff was very friendly when we interacted with him, and we enjoyed the food: Galley burgers and fries, a kid's cheeseburg, and a kid's chocolate milkshake. Everything was tasty and hit the spot. Service was good. I ordered a fried bologna sandwich that wasn't really fried very well even though I asked specifically for it to be fried. I also ordered a vanilla malt, it wasn't mixed very well but the worst part was it cost $9 for the shake alone. One thing that really irked me was when I paid the sever must have assumed I was going to tip him, it wasn't much that was left and since I was being reimbursed for meals I let it go. We went for the first time this past week and loved it. That Galley Boy is one of the tastiest burgers I have ever had! I ate it all up before I could remember to take pictures of it. We also enjoyed the french fries, potato teezers (kind of like mashed potato ball with cheese in it), and a creamy chocolate peanut butter shake. The servers were so polite and the food came out hot and fast. I deducted one star because the menu posted did not give any info on burger toppings, and the server did not tell us you can order "the works" (pickles, onions, mustard, ketchup) which is how we would have liked our burgers. read more

I had a fun time ordering from here. I wish we had more of the retro feeling with them on roller skates. That would be awesome! Anyway, to my review. I ordered the double burger with grilled onion, bacon and mayo. My wife got the same but a single. She got the Ohio fruit drink with it and she loved it. Their burger was alright, but that grilled onion was so sweet that it made the burger taste sugary. I'll get raw next time. The fries were slightly burnt and very dry. I'll for sure be back to give it another round. I'll try it once they're opened up for us to stay there because I love fries with my burger. Those I had last night were terrible. This location is fast and our food was hot when it came out. Galley Boy was delicious as always, and the peanut butter milkshake may become a new favorite for me. Can you believe they make 32oz shakes? That's basically a meal itself. Other than the Galley Boy and shake, that's all I would recommend ordering. I've now tried the fries, onion rings, and chicken nuggets. The fries and onion rings were "meh" but the chicken nuggets were so nasty it would turn me away from eating them ever again. It's what I originally imagined "impossible" meat would taste like (for the record, plant based "meat" is delicious). So at this point, the menu is pretty limited unless I want a burger. But it is a cute socially distant night out when you need it. read more

I'd been waiting a long time to try a Swenson, and I finally was able to! It is an interesting concept. Can you pull up park and put your lights on and somebody will run out to your window to take your order. Then your food is delivered hot and fresh right to you in your car...Reminded me of A&W as a kid :) The serving sizes are small and the food is cheap, I guess this gives you the opportunity to try many different things. I think everything was greasy and fried but sometimes that's what you're craving and it was delicious! With the portion sizes small you don't feel totally gluttonous after eating a cheeseburger and a side. read more

We see employees running around the parking lot. One of them had seen us pull in so he asked if we knew what we wanted to order. We said we had not been there before so what do we do? I usually go to the Polaris location and they've always done right by me, but I stopped at this Hilliard location tonight and it was such a disappointment. Good food should make you happy and my whole meal made me sad. The first burger I ordered came out with pink in the middle and I know medium rare is America's favorite, but I didn't expect that from a fast food establishment. She didn't ask how I wanted it done, so I thought it would universally be cooked through like you'd see at a Wendy's or McDonalds. I asked if it could be re-done well-done and had to pay for it. I hadn't eaten the other one at all. The onion rings were flavorless circle crisps and barely had onion in them. The banana milkshake was alright. All in all, you get better quality food at Wendy's. With the official opening just last Monday, we have seen the parking lot completely full each evening. We went for an early dinner on Wednesday before it got crazy, and ordered our food to go. Our server was wonderful, and then a friendly manager actually brought our food out. It came out fast, but not too fast. A perk for me is that they have grilled chicken, fish (although not grilled), and veggie burgers. The tots are great - not too greasy, and the chicken nuggets taste very fresh. I had the seasonal Caramel Apple Shake, a great add to the shake flavors. My husband enjoyed his Galley Boy and onion rings. The staff do a lot of running around, so we tipped nicely. Honestly one of the best Swensons experience I've had! Our server was the best and he was the youngest member on their team. He was so kind, funny, and engaging. He recommended the xango for dessert and it was great! I got the usual - a galley boy with some add ons. I recommend the cajun spice too either on the side or in the burger. Not to mention their jalapeno poppers - ah-ma-zing! At first we went to the Sawmill location but their grill broke, so we went to Hilliard (because I just couldn't not have Swensons!!). I'm also not a huge fan of how the servers DART to your car. Even if you're 3 feet away from the door. I was excited for Swenson's to come to this side of town. I want/wanted to like it but I'll go with 2 starts. The shakes I've had there have had a metallic aftertaste that doesn't make sense. The burger was average, if that. If you're going to run a burger and shake joint, you'd think that the burger and shakes would be top shelf. They simply aren't at this location. I am so excited to have a Swenson's in Hilliard! For those that are not familiar, this is a drive up and order restaurant. I always order and eat in the car so my food is fresh. When you arrive, turn on your headlights and a server will dash to your car. Part of the fun is watching the servers run around while you wait for your food! We have perfected our order - a galley boy, double cheeseburger, onion rings, and the famous potato teezers. The burgers are smash burger style and are juicy on top of a sweet and fluffy bun. Condiments add to the sweet and savory style of this burger. The onion rings are perfectly seasoned and never greasy. The potato teezers are like a croquette with cheese and jalepeno bits, so good! Swenson's is also known for the milkshakes and sodas but they have something on the menu for everyone. This location has an entrance from Cemetery Rd. and an entrance to the driveway of the elementary school that has a light to turn onto Cemetary Rd.
