This place makes a delicious burger, great chili, and fantastic fries. I would give them 5-stars but the dine-in experience is always lacking. Dirty tables, dirty counters, and slow wait staff were always an issue in the past. Now, you use self-service kiosks to order which has affected the number of workers needed in the restaurant. Needless to say, the dirty tables and other issues remain and are somewhat worse than before. If you can deal with the dine-in experience deficiencies, the food will make you smile and you will return many more times in the future. I love this place. It deserves a much better rating. I had the Frisco melt and chili. It's always fantastic. I also had the new Reese's shake and it was amazing!! There were two people in my party and both had the same meal and milkshakes, we spent less than $25. I don't think there is a better place for affordable meals than here. If I could give less stars I would. We used to go to this place on occasion when we lived closer, but hadn't been in a while and was really looking forward to it. We always liked their burgers (portobello Swiss...yum!) and ranked their fries near the top of the list. BUT....apparently things have changed. We pulled into the drive thru and there was one car waiting to order. And waiting. And waiting. Should've left, but really wanted that burger, so we sat. After several minutes, they finally placed their order & we pulled up. FIFTEEN MINUTES. We spent FIFTEEN MINUTES waiting or someone to take our order. When we turned the corner to pay, we noticed the car that was ahead of us was parked. Oh oh. We actually called the restaurant while we waited and asked to speak to a supervisor- the phone was left on the counter as we waited and we could hear a woman inside complaining that they had been there AN HOUR. Cut to the chase, we hung up and knocked on the window and asked for a refund. All in all, we spent THIRTY-FIVE MINUTES IN A FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU AND LEFT WITHOUT ANY FOOD. Never, ever again. This location used to be great busy friendly staff. But the time it was bad. Our waitress seemed bother to work. But we ordered and went to our business. Half got their milk shakes like 5-10 minutes later we got my cherry coke and the other milkshakes. I can see why they have only a 2 star rating now!! So I stopped by on my way home a lil before midnight, place was not busy or packed so I am stumped for why the service was what it was!! I ordered a frisco with fries and a 4 for $4... it's advertised that you get to choose a side or pay an extra .59 for a better side... nope they told me extra fries or coleslaw and that's it, are you out of the other stuff? Very clean area and patient staff. I had an attitude which went out the door upon entry. The place is very clean and a great job to Mr. Dewayne for being very courteous to me despite my snarkiness. My initial impression was that we irritated him for taking so long to place an order on our first visit to the franchise. The food is so delicious I am certain I will return. The dining area is well lit and very clean. No foul odors and absolutely no debris on the ground. The exterior is just as impeccable as the inside and also well lit. Very good patty melts. That is the only burger I get here. The fries are good but very skinny so you have to eat them fast. The chili is very good and you can add that to any meal for a low price. Plus they have spaghetti many different ways. Which is a fun change from typical fast food. The milk shakes are very large and they have plenty to choices. They make them the old fashion way like back in the 1950's. I m not a fan of the type of service at Steak N Shake. Which is sit down and order with a waitstaff. I would much rather get my own drinks. And order and sit down. But they have it set up with waitstaff. They get pretty busy at lunch so you may have a wait. I actually love this place because the waiters, somehow, someway, are always nice and seem to care. I'm not sure why. There's no way they can make enough money and tips to provide the incentive to go above and beyond. Maybe that's why I always appreciate them as much as I do. I've yet to meet a server who is begrudging. I think it's really something to get a double cheeseburger and fries made fresh, with service, for 3.99. And I have always liked their food a lot. For what it is. It's a place I can bring my family of four, and spend less than $20 on the weekend when kids eat free. That's really a big deal to someone like me on a tight budget. But ohhhhh how something is terribly wrong with the management... for me to have ordered online, and told the exact time to pick up my food-- but still wait with wiggly children for over 30 minutes past pick up time. I looked around the restaurant and noticed other grumpy parents and Uber eats drivers waiting and waiting and waiting. Maybe it's just a problem of economics. If I want nice servers, and good food for pennies, somewhere there's going to be a deficit. The management maybe can not afford a full kitchen of cooks when a family's ticket rings up at $16... I'm using this location just for reference because every single Steak N Shack I go, either in Texas or Florida, I face same problems. First of all I want to say their food is great, shakes are awesome, prices are very affordable and staff are friendly and helpful. But their problem is they are always shorthanded during busy time or slow time. Majority of time when I go to any Steak N Shack, I have to wait long time to be seated, then I've to wait long time for waiters to come and take my order. And bad thing is you can't be mad at either staff or on managers because they all are working very hard and doing their best to accommodate customers but they are always shorthanded. In other words even after waiting for so long I don't get angry at staff but I feel sorry for them. I understand like any restaurant they are trying to watch out for their labor cost, but they are losing more by doing that because many time I've seen several customers leaving because of wait time. It would be better for them if they change it to counter service where customer order their food at counter and waiter will bring their food to them. But if they want to stay full service then they need to make sure they are fully staffed. I don't mind if they raise prices a little bit to cover their labor. Now I hear they are closing one of the branch in Fort Worth. If this is true its really sad because it wouldn't be because of their food, or store managers, or staff, but in my opinion it would be because of lack of staffing and bad planning and I believe blame goes to top level management. read more
