I was very disappointed when our local Steak 'n Shakes closed and we always keep an eye out for them on trips. Not only do we enjoy their Steakburgers and shoestring fries but there is a bit of nostalgia involved as we used to go to SnS occasionally when we were dating (and wanted something "fancy" ). So, we were happy to drive a few miles out of our way on the way home from Atlanta in order to dine here. Interior is typical red, black and white "50's diner" vibe (the restaurant started in 1934 and has lots of vintage black and white photos on the walls). Our local SnS restaurants tended to have a "covered in a light layer of grease" feel and this location did as well. It also had a somewhat unpleasant odor noticeable upon entering, stale grease or something like that. I was so happy they were open it was something I was willing to overlook. We were greeted and seated immediately and our order taken promptly. Service was friendly and cheerful. Food arrived quickly, hot and fresh. My garlic double steak burger (thin patties) was delicious, with garlic sauce and topped with garlic butter. Fries were crispy-not-crunchy. Happy to have my Steak n Shake itch scratched for the time being.

Ordered take our using the online service. Picked up the food and it was done on time. Upon arrival I noticed that this location was filthy! Staff was socializing loudly and focusing on their conversation more than what they were doing... barely anyone in the resteruant... couple tables. Since everyone was so distracted, I checked my food in the car and realized they provided me with the wrong size fries (ordered L, got S). Went back in and notified them, and they started getting me a large. Double checked to make sure nothing else was missing, but alas, the sauce for my tenders was absent. They gave me the new fries and sauce. While I was waiting, I also could see someone in the back grabbing a vape on and off the shelf in the kitchen but couldn't see them use it. When I got home, I opened the burger, and it was wrong , too. I ordered a single bacon with LTO and received a plain double. No cherry on the shake. I tried to call and let them know. They won't answer the phone after multiple attempts, and their voicemail is full. This location lacks cleanliness and accuracy. Everything is haphazardly thrown together. I will not return.

The food was great and my burger was served hot! I'm not from the area so I asked the young lady who served me for recommendations and she provided honest reviews for a few nail shops in the area. I was excited to see the diner-style ambiance.

This spot is often talked about and well known chain restaurant. It was my first time here and I loved how the restaurant looked and the concepts. The menu itself is very straight to the point and on copy paper in a sleeve but it fits the look. I ordered a double bacon burger with just cheese and lettuce with fries and a chocolate shake. My other parties ordered burgers and shakes as well. Our waitresses were a little young, they almost looked like 10-12 and they were very nervous and did have some mistakes throughout the meal but I feel bad no one older and experienced was helping them therefore I think it's more of a group issue than their own fault. As far as the food the fries are very delicious and they give you a seasoning shaker that for some odd reason tastes a little like the ramen noodle seasoning but it's good for the first bites on the fries. The burger was delicious, the patties are thin and so i'm glad i got a double as usually i order smaller burgers. Overall definitely would come back for the food if i got a craving for it. As far as the pricing I think it's pretty fair and they just need to work on the service.

Whoever made this should be ashamed they even gave this to a customer like are you serious! You can see this is COMPLETELY burnt! I went thru drive thru and only checked to make sure everything was in the bag but i should of checked the actual food! Then they don't even fill the fries up the cups are small af now! You really think people come spend their hard earned money to get some bs like this served to them? Cause we don't and based off all these other reviews atp this place need to be shut down!

Ordered two burgers, bring them back to the hotel room and our burgers were inedible. The meat was literally crispy and overcooked to the point of being completely charred. The fries were stale and cold. We called to complain and just wanted a refund but they ensured us to come back and show them before they issued a refund. We aren't going to drive there and back just to appease the man mumbling in the phone. Terrible customer service - a lot of steak n shakes are great; This location is terrible. Manager should be fired for treating us so poorly

My favorite place for a shake and fires! This location has a happy hour from 2-5 half off shakes. So I got a classic chocolate milkshake and a small fry for $3.55 not bad. The lady at the drive thru was very kind and accommodating. She even gave me extra napkins. The milkshakes are always good and I usually can't even finish because a regular size is a lot. The small shoe string fries are good too!

Everything is made from scratch; from the fresh burger patties and soft, homemade buns to the delicious pralines they hand out as a sweet palate cleanser at the end of your meal. You can absolutely taste the difference. The restaurant is small with limited seating (first come, first served), with seating along the windows and down the side, and a couple of outdoor tables. You order at the counter, grab your number, and then find a seat. Even though it's a casual, fast-service restaurant, the hospitality was anything but ordinary. We were greeted the moment we walked in by the sweetest older gentleman whose genuine Southern hospitality made us feel so welcome. He even stopped by to chat with us during our meal, making the whole experience feel warm and personal. The food was outstanding! My burger was cooked perfectly....juicy, flavorful, and served on one of the best hamburger buns I've ever had. It was incredibly soft but somehow never got soggy or fell apart, even with all the cheese and sauce. They offer about 10 different flavor options for burgers. They even offer grilled chicken sandwiches and Open face burgers. I ordered the Sawyer Burger ($13.95), topped with chili garlic glazed pork belly, Asian slaw, and crispy onion straws. It was absolutely delicious and well worth the price considering the quality and generous portion. The fries deserve their own review! So many burger places treat fries as an afterthought, but not here. The portions are huge and perfectly seasoned. I chose the Buffalo Blue Cheese fries, and they were packed with flavor. I wish I'd had room to try the Parmesan fries, which sounded like a customer favorite. Even the tiny bathroom was charming, covered in funny and quirky signs that made me smile. If I lived in Greenville, I'd definitely become a regular. Amazing food, generous portions, homemade quality, friendly service, and true Southern hospitality. I can't recommend this place enough!

Hubs had the meatballs (which the server said they only had two left...a friend nabbed the others) and other friends had the moules (mussels) frites and the braised short rib IIRC. The *.frites were the biggest hits. My filet was perfect, Sharon was raving about her mussels being the best she's had in ages. I had a bite of the meatballs, they were ok but people agreed there are better things on their menu. I love that the frites come with a choice of 3 out of about 10 different custom mayos (aiolis for the fancy-schmancy). I tried the curry, sriracha, and a fruity one I can't remember exactly what it was. I liked the fruity one the best and to my surprise, the curry the least (I usually love curry, but the balance was off). The sriracha mayo was too subtle for me, I slather sriracha mayo on my burgers regularly. I have no class. The frites were fresh cut and I enjoyed them but there were far more than I could eat on my plate, and sadly frites don't keep. They have my favorite super sweet Lindemann's framboise lambic on tap; I've only ever had it in bottles before, so that was a treat. My husband thinks I'm crazy to drink it because it is SO SWEET but I love it. So does Sharon, and clearly we're not alone or they wouldn't waste a tap on it :). It's beer for people who hate beer. (I resemble that remark. Maybe hate is a strong word. But in my 30s I realized I'd rather drink a soda than a beer, except for this one.) Desserts sounded good but we were too stuffed to order any. Next time I come, I may try the mussels, or I might just order that steak again.

It's in a basement that feels like a pleasant dungeon or a 1500's rogue tavern, you know, the kind in the movies where plots to overturn evil rulers are hatched. It is a unique vibe and after your meal, when emerging back onto the brightly lit street, it's akin to stepping out of a secret place and back into the light of day. The beer selection is impressive. This food is Belgian inspired. Hence the name being derived from a mix of Trappist Monks, trap doors, and a hidden underground enclave. Many of the beers have higher alcohol content, listed on the menu, be advised. The specialty is Moules Frites, mussels prepared in various broths and fries double fried in duck fat served with a flight of your choice of flavored mayonnaise such as wasabi, curry, truffle, sriracha, etc. Very good. Reservations are highly recommended. It was a busy Thursday at 6:30pm and the place was literally packed, even the bar. The two of us were seated in a large, dark, alcove booth fitting for six or perhaps even eight. We had a reservation, so the hostess said, "we may as well fill it" since it was that crowded. Being such, it was five minutes before we were noticed and placed our drink orders, another five before our water arrived and we ordered and about 30 minutes later to get our food. In between we were left to ourselves. The service was not negligent, but it was minimal and not really friendly either. It was a busy night, so we will have grace. But the mussels were delicious. We both had the Provincale, a rich, savory, Mediterranean sauce of tomatoes, garlic and white wine. Bourdain says "never order the mussels", in his Kitchen Confidential book, but here you are safe because they are very popular and the main feature. I've probably said this before and it is worth repeating, they need to up their crusty bread game. The broth is so good and the accompanying bread just doesn't lend itself to bringing the dish to another level, but it could were it better bread. This is a solid and must do restaurant experience when visiting Greenville. It arguably should be the "one" restaurant you must visit in town because of its unique ambiance and unique food & beverage.
