So when we got to the window we waited just a few minutes. We got our food, but we were missing a burger. We went in and got it pretty quickly even with how busy it was. Usually I have a good experience here (pass through town every so often and always want to grab a shake) but the person at the speaker in the drive-thru was very rude. Waited in line for 30 minutes, got up to the speaker and then waited 10 more minutes for them to say they won't take our order for another 10-15 minutes because they are so busy. My wife and I have eaten at this location every Thursday since December of 2012 and we have yet to have a bad experience. The wait staff are always very friendly and ready to help. The burgers have always been hot and juicy, the fries crispy and hot, and they are very willing to make your food exactly the way you want it. I recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a good deal on good food. And I especially recommend the Chili! read more

For some reason Missouri is full of Steak and Shakes. It's a chain and this place has the same food and shakes as any other. It's fairly close to the highway and gas stations. Service was quick and didn't make me feel bad for stopping at a sit down place while on the road. I will remember this exit on my next road trip. read more

Every time we drive to Branson, MO we stop and eat at this Steak and Shake. The service is amazing and the manager personally came up and helped us with a high chair and complimented our 1 month old daughter. Truly a genuine character. The food is awesome! I prefer the drive-thru when I come here. Every time we come to sit down and eat it seems like our food sits in the window for several minutes before someone brings it to us and by then it's not hot anymore. We walked in and stood there for 5 minutes before someone decided to seat us...even though there were 5 waitresses standing there doing nothing except check their cellphones. Then after sitting down- we waited and waited and waited- at least 10 minutes and NOBODY came over to take our drink order- But during that time, the 5 waitresses stood there yapping, texting and doing nothing- Keep in mind, the restaurant was NOT busy, maybe half full. This location is very close to SAMs club? My parents and I planned to go here after shopping. I was expecting to be disappointed since I am not a big fan of chain resturants but they do have there place for casual times like after shopping and hungry and tired. We had never been to a Steak and Shake. I really liked that we where seated by the staff and that we could eat from real dishes, forks, spoons, knifes and not paper wrapped food and plastic utensils. All the staff where so friendly from the waitress to the cook. This location was clean and bright, with 50's music softly playing in the background. The bathrooms where clean too, sort of something that is important to me. Most important.....the food! We have not had a good burger in years, consensus from parents and me while talking about our day together later in the day. We all ordered the double classic burger with cheese and we had cole slaw, onion rings and a classic shake. Yummmm. We are looking forward to going back to try the rest of the menu. read more

We usually love Steak & Shake. One of my cousins used to manage a S&S. We just stopped at this location on our way back to OK from spring break in Branson. The entire family passes this way several times a year because we are all SDC season pass holders. This was our first of many trips for this year, but we will not stop to eat here again! We waited 40-50 minutes for our food. It finally came to us stone cold. Honestly the coldest I have ever eaten any food that wasn't a frozen food. The waitress apologized for the wait when she brought it, and then again when she asked us how our food was and I had to tell her how horrible it was (not that it was her fault). *I counted 8 empty tables while we waited-it wasn't very busy. We noticed only 2 tables got their food before us and everyone was looking around just like us wondering what was taking so long. We did noticed a very busy continuous line in the drive thru and wondered if we should go out and drive through to order our food. We ate and said "thank goodness we were starving". As we paid the manager to leave we were asked how the food was, and we told them that it was stone cold and that we would have just walked out of we weren't starving and had already waited close to an hour-no apologies from him :-/ We said that the joke every trip from now on is that when passing this exit we will ask "want to stop and eat at Steak & Shake?"! I'm leaving one star because you have to leave at least one to leave a review. We walked in this evening, the lady asked how many, and when we told her she shook her head, repeated the number then walked off and told the kitchen then they all started whispering. She didn't come back to seat us. I said never mind, everyone looked at us like they didn't want us here, and she said whatever and shook her head. Very, very rude. Last time we were there the waitress told us she didn't want anyone else coming in. It's your job, not a place to sit and hope you don't have to wait on anyone. I get it, we have a lot of kids, but they are very well behaved, and we get compliments on their behavior almost every place we go. We had a friend with us and she said last time they were there, the waitress told them, I'm missing my break because of y'all we love this place, and wish it was better in our town, sadly it's terrible, terrible service. They take forever even if it's basically empty. And no I'm not this person that leaves bad reviews for everyone, first one I've ever left, but well deserved. I'm absolutely in love with this place. I feel that the location is perhaps not a prime location compared to other places in Joplin, but the food is good and the prices are excellent, especially if you have coupons. I was able to grab a steak burger, shake, fries, and onion rings all for only $5 and change. That is a hard to beat deal that you can't find anywhere else in Joplin. They have an entire menu of meals that are $3.99 that includes a burger and fries. If you wish to buy a meal with a drink included,it's usually only $5 and change, which again, is hard to beat. Steak and Shake has some of the best burgers and fries I've ever had in terms of fast food and the service really is fast. I loved it. I highly recommend this place. read more

Manager had to get involved which then of course, made it better. Not sure if I'll go back. First impressions matter, regardless of food quality. But to just make it even better, the food sucked. I like Steak & Shake but I'd agree with another reviewer that it's not the place to go when you're in a hurry. I will never go back to the drive thru because the 2-3 times I have, I wound up completely turning off my car and just sitting there for a LONG time waiting for a shake (like 10 minutes or longer...seriously). From time to time, I meet a friend there for lunch and the food is always really good but the service speed varies so greatly. One time we'll be in and out in 30 min, but the next time it's well over an hour for the exact same meals. I do think the quality of their servers has dramatically improved since they stopped being open 24 hours, though. The staff looks cleaner and is more courteous than in the past, probably because 24 hr restaurants tend to attract a less desirable workforce in some situations. For this type of food, Steak & Shake always delivers. It's not a healthy option but once in awhile it just hits the spot! Their patty melts and shakes are like something from another era, and the fries are great too. I'm only in my thirties but I still get nostalgic for childhood diners and snack bars when I eat here! But after seemingly getting it corrected at window with a nice young lady, about 10 minutes later a young man comes to window to "take our order" again. I said you have got to be kidding. Then having to wait for almost 20 minutes for my food to come out completely wrong and have to sent back. I've worked in the food service industry for over 20 years and this is worst that going to Waffle House. I have informed many friends, family and other patrons of how bad this place hasn't gotten over the past 6 years. Stopped here at 2pm on a Sunday. Needed something quick, but didn't want to drive thru. I have never had to wait so long at a Steak n Shake. Ever. Waited to order, and waited *forever* for our food. The place was probably 3/4 full, and I noticed only about 3/4 of those people had their food. After half an hour, I had to ask the waiter to put our food in a bag when it came up. Didn't get a tea refill til it was time to leave. When we got to the car, the food was cold, including the fries. It was a real disappointment. So the rating on the food was not good. The rating on the wait time was abysmal. The rating on the attentiveness of the waiter was below average. Maybe this was an isolated incident, but I don't think I'll eat at a S n' S any time soon. read more

First off, if i had a selection for a "no star" rating, I would select it. My wife and I started out of Central Texas on Tuesday, 21 Oct , headed for South Central MO. We stopped at this Steak and Shake, for a long waited for meal We picked it up to go. 1 reg cheeseburger, 1 bacon cheeseburger, 2 orders of fries and a chocolate shake. We were greeted warmly, served promptly and bid a fond farewell. Down the road as we opened our meal to eat, we quickly found our meal was unfit for human consumption! My wife's cheeseburger had the mustard thinned with water so bad it was leaking out of the wrapper and the hamburger patty was as thin as a waffle potato chip. My bacon cheeseburger had a piece of bacon about the size a little larger than a postage stamp. The meat was barely as thick as the piece of bacon. The french fries reminded me of the strings on a mop that had been cut off and were stuffed in their little container. Cold and nasty tasting! My chocolate shake was the WORST tasting shake ever. Tart, tangy, and left a bad taste. We did not finish the meal. Found a gas station as fast as we could and threw the remainder away as we drove the rest of the way with the windows down to get rid of the smell. NEVER AGAIN WILL WE EAT THERE!!! read more
