Our Journey to Kentucky to visit the ARK has brought us to this fun pit stop. We have seen several Steak and Shakes along the way and figured we had to try one. Upon entering we we're greeted by several super friendly employees. They were very patient with us as it was our first time to a Steak and Shake. My wife and I both got the Western BBQ bacon and steak burger. As this was what they recommended for your first time trying there food and this was super delicious, maybe a little smaller then your average burger but it was also alot cheaper and still really good. The frys I would give an average grade nothing special but still good but the shake is really thick and the recommendation i was given was was different from each employee from Cotton candy to a peanut butter one, I choose the peanut butter one and It was definitely an enjoyable selection. I will say it does take some time but it was worth the stop. Our over all suggestion would be go give it a shot if you don't mind a bit of a wait for some good food and friendly servers who are super happy to share there thoughts on the food. read more

Disappointed they changed their menu and stopped offering value meals they had. Also disappointed they stopped offering the Cajun and Lemon Pepper seasoning on their fries. I do NOT recommend this location. The bathrooms have controlled delivery toilet paper dispensers. This means you are fighting with the dispenser for every precious, practically transparent square to take care of your needs! Furthermore, they have one of these controlled delivery toilet paper dispensers in the handicapped stall, which IS ILLEGAL according to federal guidelines. I won't eat anywhere where people are allowed the dignity to take care of their bathroom needs. If I could give this place -*s, that's what they'd get. read more

Steak 'n Shake is a nice place to go if you want a quick bite to eat. The prices are extremely decent and I just love their shoelace fries. The food is delicious both times I have had it. The food and fries are both hot! I have also gotten their salad and it is quite a generous size which I love. Don't know why it doesn't have better reviews as the servers are polite and nice as well as the food being good. The only thing is their portions are on the small side. read more

Always love Steak 'n Shake! I was able to order a smaller shake than the regular size and it was perfect. I was able to finish it all and not feel wasteful. I always be the double steak burger and of course the fries and fry seasoning are my absolute favorite. This is one of my top places for lunch or dinner, or even just a quick ice cream stop. Also I ordered a taco Sal as d that I don't remember seeing where it said it would have some sort of dressing on it. I used to love this place. Maybe they've changed management or something, but the last time I went there it was AWFUL. Firstly, they screwed up my fries. I ordered salt n pepper seasoned, and they were hosed in vinegar. I watched my waitress send it back to the kitchen and tell the cooks "not vinegar, salt n pepper." They just put pepper on my salt and vinegar fries! It was like drinking straight vinegar. Secondly, my burger was burnt. To a crisp. Thirdly, my bun looked like it had been down the front of a fat man's pants. Also burnt to a crisp. Next, I could clearly hear the cooks and wait staff gossiping loudly in the kitchen. Professionalism please! And lastly, being the only two people in the place, you'd think it would have been fast service, and done right. But no. I waited 20+ minutes for awful food. We ate here while passing through on a road trip up north. I eat Steak 'n Shake regularly and usually think their burgers and fries are always good. However, this experience was very different. I ordered a burger with ketchup and mustard only and was given a burger with only mustard. My boyfriend ordered a burger with NO tomatoes and was given (of course) a burger with tomatoes. In addition to that, the burgers were soaked in grease to the point that both the top and bottom bun were soggy and the burgers themselves were absolute mush. The fries were also cold and soggy. We ended up throwing everything away and completely wasted $10. I would not recommend ever spending your money here, especially if you're expecting the usual Steak 'n Shake experience as it is anything but. read more

We came in a group, 11 to be exact. The minute we walked into the door the waitress rolled her eyes and looked immediately annoyed that such a large group of people that was coming in to dine at your restaurant. I mean really? Is that seriously how you treat customers when they walk into the door? No friendly smile or greeting? How strange.. At this point I already knew our dining experience at this establishment was going to be a bad one. We ordered our drinks, food, and was situated at a table. When our food came, everyone was given their food. Then my father-in-law, whom is 71 years of age, very set-in-his-ways type of man, asked the waitress why he didn't have a tomato on his burger. The waitress immediately took offense and was absolutely rude to him and instead of saying "I will get one right away sir," she instead decided to argue with him on why that particular sandwich doesn't have tomatoes (even though there was a picture of the said burger that had a tomato on it). She finally rolled her eyes and huffed and got a slice of tomato for him. But, when she went to the back (Where you could STILL SEE HER) she decided to throw some trays and make a huge racket. Now I sure as heck know that is no way to treat a customer. Everyone at the table was absolutely disgusted with this young woman's behavior. I can't believe that the girl has managed to stay hired being a waitress. She's clearly way too emotional and out of control to be kept hired as a waitress at your establishment. There was a manager that ended up giving us 10 dollars off on our ticket and tried to smooth things over. Which was nice, however I am concerned on a different level of what kind of staff you keep at your restaurant. I was driving through town with my family. We stopped in the drive through. The person on the speaker had no idea about many of the menu items I tried to order. They were also very slow, even for Steak 'n Shake standards. When I finally did get our food a drink and sauce was missing. I tried to drive back around to the window but the car that was ahead of me in line was already back in line presumably because their order was incorrect as well. Drove thru today and ordered a burger with everything. I guess they don't have ketchup, mayo, lettuce or tomatoes in Lebanon, mo. My burger had 2 kinds of pickles plus mustard. That's everything. When I called, the idiot Mgr said that's what everything means at steak n shake. I usually eat at steak n shake twice a week elsewhere, and I can tell you I've never had to ask for the extras when I ordered everything at any other steak n shake. The meal was very good, beginning with the warm yeast bread knots with the special oil mix. The salad with the house dressing rocks. Don't pass up the house dressing its a unique spin on Italian vinaigrette that will leave you begging for the recipe. The chicken pomodoro was tasty. I enjoyed the fresh heirloom tomatoes. This Steak and Shake is one of the best I've ever been to. The greeters/servers meet you at the door....take you to your seat and it only gets better. The place is spotless, service is first rate, and I only wish it were in our town so I could go more often. We stop every time we are through Lebanon, right off highway 44. Usually Steak and Shake food pretty consistent wherever you go. Not so with Lebanon, MO restaurant. Ordered chili 5 way and a single steak burger. When I got home and took out food, the burger was plain with no condiments at all. The chili 5 way bowl was half filled. There was barely any chili, just plain noodles with a lot of cheddar cheese on top. Had to put ketchup on it to give it a little tomato flavor! $13 for food that should have been thrown in the garbage. Worst food I have ever had. Will never go back and I usually get pretty good food at Steak and Shake. read more

This is a great spot to stop off of I44. The food is an average fast meal with a dine in experience. The store is very clean and the bathrooms are always always kept up. The day staff are all nice and polite. They work well with each other and get food out to guests quickly. The servers seem to love the job; makes communication with their customers and checks on them regularly through out the stay. There are a lot of elderly, and family returning customers. I ordered something they took off the menu and they made it for me anyways. I told them the chili was cool, so they made me a new cup and took it off my check. My experiences here are great. My family and I love this Steak N Shake. 5 stars for it all! read more

The one main good thing about this place is that it is cheap for a sit-down restaurant, I can usually eat here for around five, seven bucks, which there are not many places like that, that have decent food. The food is pretty good, depending on what you order, but most of it I have to say is nice, none of it is over the top amazing, but it is good. Most people I talk to, do not like the fries. I had their onion rings instead, not the best I ever had, but still good. The service was good, the waitress checked on us often, and she was friendly put her above most of the waitresses for her serving, I have seen over the years, but not in the top bracket, and I think the other waiters/ waitresses there are average: polite, gets your order, but nothing memorable. I met all kinds of waitresses and waiters, the best for me are the ones who would joke with you, and made sure that you not only enjoyed you're food but had a fun time, and go out of their way to make sure you were satisfied with you're order. Those are the ones I put in the top bracket. There is the atmosphere, nothing spectacular , but still decent and clean. I do not remember feeling overcrowded either. The overall picture is that this is not the most amazing place you will go to, but if you are looking for a decent sit-down restaurant with about the same you would spend on fast food this is the place to go.
