It took flipping forever. 45 muinutes for our food at a drive thru OMG! So when I got home with the food, OMG my burger was fricking plain!!! Plain! Drive thru was terribly slow! Spent a good half hour waiting for our food! 10 of those minutes were waiting at the menu board in silence! Another 10 minutes was waiting for them to make a milkshake! I don't know how it takes you 10 minutes to make a milkshake, but it's unacceptable! Upon reaching the window the person working had to ask us what we had ordered because they had forgotten. Went to Steak 'n Shake with my mom, sister, and brother in law. We never were asked if we wanted refills. And when it was time to pay, a guy was in sight of the register with his phone plugged in just texting away and the woman running drive thru was sitting at the counter on her cell phone with her feet propped up in the stool next to her. What happened to the Steak N Shake of yesteryear? It used to be a pretty good place back in the day. Then 2009 hit and they came out with this $4 menu and everything went to hell. Now it's no better than IHOP or Denny's. Sad, sad story. I remember going here when I was a kid after soccer games and I was excited about it. I remember the great platters and the higher than average quality food for a decent price. Now they just force feed you crappy french fries with every meal. The steakburgers and shakes are still pretty good but if you get ANYTHING else on the menu it's total crap...the chicken is awful. It feels more like a Wal-Mart cafe now. I will never go back now even if my kid wants to go. My kid deserves better than this. My dog deserves better than this. read more

I've been here multiple times and on several different occasions we have waited so long we ended up just leaving because either no one helped us or our food just never came... Every time I come they forget our shakes. This time when I paid my bill I said I'd like our shakes to go since we'd finished our meal never having gotten them. That isn't the first time that's happened either. On another occasion we were brought silverware with crusty old food on them. Another time the waitress asked if we'd like extra napkins. I just got the worst service ever. First it took me a few minutes to get waited on. The girl was filling ketchup bottles and didn't see me. She apologized for the wait. That was not the problem. I ordered 2 western burgers. The cook made them immediately and slid them to the prep area, where they set for 8 minutes. After they were completed and put in a bag, they set for another 7 minutes before someone recognized I was at the checkout counter waiting on them. I asked for extra BB sauce. When I got them home (about 10MIN) they were stone cold and very little BB sauce on them. The place only had 5 patrons beside me and a couple of cars at the drive thru. im trying to remember if we were the only table or if there was one other this was a while back i think we were the only people there it was after a movie probably around 11ish or 12ish and since it said wait to be seated we just stood there there was a guy working (server) washing something looked at us kept doing what he was doing and we waited their for 10 - 15 min finally we just seated ourselves he still looked at us.. went on to do his own things we waited for another 10 min and i grabbed menus (we were starving.. otherwise wouldve walked out.. we shouldve tho) then another 15min later he finally comes over our food takes like 20min or more all in all it just took WAY too long we were so disapointed and didnt feel like tipping or paying for our meals for that matter which we did but tipping.. well we tipped poorly only a little but this restaurant seriously needs to up its standards and service if it were BUSY i'd be much more understanding as i myself have waited tables but this is just horrible read more

Absolutely horrible. There were a total of three small tables in the entire place that had anyone at them and it still took over 45 minutes before getting any food. The shakes were given in to go cups and by the time they got around to giving us the chili we had ordered it was cold. I WITNESSED a young boy have to walk up & get his own refill. Went here and waited at the drive thru for a few minutes with no response. I was saying "HELLO?" Finally someone comes over the speaker with "What do you want?" I'm not even kidding. No, "Hi how can I help you?" No " would you like to try our ...?" Just "what do you want?" So I order and he says "pull up." That's it. He doesn't say "please pull up to your second window," etc.. he says "pull up." So I do. When I get to the window he reaches out his hand for my money and doesn't say a word. I swear that at this point I haven't been rude or said anything other than hello and my order. It was insane. So I see a manager in the background and ask for him. He comes over and apologized without any sort of compensation, coupon, etc. well I gave them another try tonight, but this time no one answered the speaker at all. I took a video of it because it was so ridiculous. Even when my wife yelled "is anyone there?" Guess it depends on who is working. Last week went in on a Saturday and everything was wonderful especially our waiter. He was top notch! A plus on his service. Food prompt and well prepared. THEN we go today Tuesday August 8th and it was HORRIBLE! Waited to be seated while 4 staff stood around staring at us. Waitress was sweet. Other waitress was kind as well but they were so overwhelmed with trying to hostess, bus, cashier it effected their waitressing. Food was VERY VERY slow on ALL tables to come out. Got order wrong on my child's order due to kitchen's fault not waitress. Good thing my kid was not allergic to their mess up. THEN we waited over ten minutes at register with 5 other people in line to cash out with no staff at register or hostessing. When I asked for manager 3 different staff had to go back and get her before she came out. She said she was washing dishes but staff said she was in her office. And I watched her cut two wait staff prior to problems even though they were obviously short and under staffed already. She was arrogant, unconcerned, and very rude. Had no remorse for the way her customers were being disserviced and staff were being over tasked due to her lack of management. Told me "I have no clue what she is doing in back" when I told her that she should be in front helping staff and customers. Will definitely rethink before we stop in again. Two horrible experiences right in a row.... I know that Steak n Shake isn't a five star establishment, but our last trip was beyond poor. We got there at 9:50 a.m and there were 10 other diners in the restaurant. Our drink/food orders were taken promptly. 10 minutes passed before water and one black coffee arrived. We then waited until 10:35 (45 minutes) with NOTHING. No checking in on us, no food, no refills, nothing. We got up to find our waitress and asked her what was going on... she said they had to make new pancake batter and that it would still be a little while. We wait. We find a different waitress and ask for the manager. We start to explain, he says "Yeah, I'm apologetic. I mean, just go... I'm working the fountain and the drive through, just go ahead and go. Wow, I feel like the average star review for this place reflects WAY too much undue criticism. It's a 24-hour restaurant that is a step up from fast food, so give them a break! I live less than 5 minutes away, so I frequent this location, and I've never had any major problems. It's a restaurant with a drive-thru that offers a lot more options/selections/personalizations than fast-food places. That's why it takes longer; and that's part of the reason I like it. I've never felt like the service was that rude. Most of the time it's very friendly, in fact. I tried the Prime Steakburger for the first time tonight. It's not my favorite, but that's just a personal taste, because I don't like thicker hamburgers usually. But I thought I'd give it a try b/c I had a coupon. I just like the regular (thinner) steakburger so much :). I will continue to come here. I'm so thankful they're open late and so close! read more

My wife and I stopped in the Grand Prairie, Peoria, IL location to have a late lunch. We had not been here for over a year due to poor service and poor quality of food. But we decided to give it another try. When we got our check we asked our waitress about a charge. She took it to her manager. We waited quite some time and then the manager came out and gave us another check which was higher that the original one. She said the waitress had made a mistake. She took the original check and said we had to pay the higher one. We should have asked to see the menu to see if/where the additional higher charge was explained and also let the manager know we were not informed of the higher charge by our waitress when we ordered. But, we went ahead and paid it. Manager was not cordial and appeared to be in a bad mood. We won't be coming back. Poor manager. I had the absolute worst service EVER at the Steak 'n Shake at 7515 N. Grand Prairie Dr. in Peoria, Illinois. I will never go back to that location again for these reasons: 1) My daughter and I had a glass of ice water dumped on us by the server, which was an accident. The water drenched our shirts, pants, and even my purse. I didn't have a problem with that, she was very apologetic, BUT when the cashier asked us how our meal was and we said something about the water spillage, they made no attempt to give us a discount or anything; 2) EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE. It took us an hour to receive our food after we ordered, and the restaurant was not very busy; 3) Our food that took so long to get to us was COLD, one person in our party received an unsatisfactory number of fries with her meal, and one steakburger was half the size it normally is. First time reviewing a steak and shake. I normally just pay the check and forget about the bad experience. Last night a bout 8 830 pm, a group of 8 decided to eat at steak and shake. I been to many restaurants similar. I understand at that time they were busy. The waitress took our order, no problem. Our drinks ( pop, and water ) no problem. Here where the problem starts. We ordered 4 milk shakes, took 35 plus mins. We received our food before the shakes. Most of us where done eating before the shakes came out. Now the food. 1 burger was missing bacon, the grilled cheese was bread (plain white bread on butter) and cheese. Didn't even looked like it was cooked. I ordered a party melt. It was the worst Patty melt I ever had. It was cold, the bread was not cooked. I understand our drinks not being refilled if it was busy but by this time it was half full, had to flag down a mother buss boy to find our waitress for refills. All and all a really bad experience. I will never go back to the steak and shake in Peoria. read more
