I like the improvements to the one in Tupelo. Service is good and food is good. Servers attentive.

I am 70 years of age and had never eaten at a Steak & Shake. Granted, I did spend 30 of the previous 40 years overseas. I was a bit surprised when I walked into the restaurant. Steak 'n Shake has changed a lot over the years. I remember the food being so much better. Went through drive-through and the service was still amazing as always. But the burger that I ordered was horrible. I think they changed their bread. It look more like a muffin than a hamburger bun. Worst service I have ever experienced. Walked in and was told to sit down and someone would be over. Waited 15 minutes and no one came to my table, but the girl proceeded to greet tables that sat down after my family did. When we asked her if someone was coming to take our order she was very rude and tried saying they were short handed. Manager Bobbi (female) was no better either. What is the point of a meatless fresco melt? I ordered delivery from here, the delivery man was kind and courteous. Unfortunately, that was the extent of my good experience. The sandwich is bread, sauce and cheese. The fresco melt is supposed to have two meat Pattie's, and I'm having trouble locating even one! I called the location and I get a snotty "there was meat when I finished it". No, there is no meat. I paid $20 for delivery all for a meatless sandwich. I have never been to a Steak 'n Shake before, but I still had an idea of what to expect. My friends go to the location in Southaven, and they have told me a lot about what to expect. This Steak 'n Shake seemed to miss the mark of the typical store in this franchise. The parking lot has messed up arrows, so the drive-thru line blocks drivers from leaving the lot itself. You have to turn around in the cramped space in order to exit. The dining area inside is actually quite small too; this is especially noticeable during peak hours like on Sundays at 12:30 when it is almost shoulder to shoulder at the register line/wait line. My first time eating here was last Wednesday (two days after opening), and it could not have gone better. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly. The food was stupendous, and our shakes came out fairly quick. Sunday, however, was lacking. When we were given our food, the server noticed that the garlic butter and seasoning was not on our garlic burgers. She stated "oh they must've forgot to put it on there", and still she proceeded to place them in front of us. We ordered shakes for CARRY OUT, and it took 20 minutes minimum for them to arrive. They were in glasses instead. Not only that, but they were melted down so much so that we could practically drink them like a typical liquid. Our waitress did not offer new ones. Just opened across from the Marriott- burgers, grilled cheese, chili, grilled chicken sandwiches. Had the grilled chicken sandwich - seasoned well, moist and good. Known for their shakes, so I had the Reese's chocolate shaken - sweet thick and dessert-like. Yummy, drive thru can be a bit slow, it was rainy. read more

Very Disappointed!!! Went there 3 times at different days and times. Only got to eat there once on Sunday at 11:30. We had to wait 45min for a table and even then I had to ask Skyler the uninterested teen busboy to wipe my table off. They had one adult and the rest we typical teenagers that want to get paid, but do no work! We left there approx 1:15. Food was reasonably priced and tasted good, but took way too long to get to our table. Then I came back on Saturday at 3pm. They had counter space open, but would not let us sit. The kid at the front had to go get an adult to let me know that they were understaffed and they had to pace the food coming out!!! Really, this is a new store and they do not have enough people??? I give the 6 months to a year if that...Tupelo patrons have too many choices to put up with poor customer service. By the way, we left and said we were going somewhere else and he was fine with that. Well, the delivery was slow. They didn't get the sweet tea that we ordered. The portions are good size, and the taste was good. Not something I would just have to have again. I've loved every Steak 'n Shake I've ever been to, so having one open so close (an hour away) was pretty exciting. We have been 3 times since they opened last week and the food is really good, however the service could use some work. Lots of employees just standing or wandering around. A very less than personal experience. Long waits (understandable because it just opened) but I wish it had the hospitable feel Of any other I've experienced. I think once they work out some kinks and find the right employees --who actually have some pep in their step and seem to want to be there -- it will be great. They deserved to have 0 stars, but i couldn't post with no stars, but The location in Tupelo, MS is absolutely TERRIBLE! They need to be shut down!! I came through drive thru and ordered my food, i got 3 separate meals. Two orders were made right, but the last one wasn't. I got a bacon double burger combo, and i asked to take off the onion and pickle where it comes with onion, pickle, and ketchup. There was no bacon on the burger for one, they put everything on the burger plus lettuce and tomato where i didn't even ask for that! The woman that was working the drive-thru was absolutely rude and i didn't like her attitude at all! i live 15 minutes away and didn't realize everything was messed up until making it home. I wish now i would have checked my food before leaving, but i shouldn't have to do that and should trust that my food is going to be made the right way! Also, i am on my 7th time trying to call the establishment to speak with a manager and no one wants to answer the phone, and no they were not busy when i was up there so i don't see why they can't answer the phone. I assume that they mess up a lot and get cussed out alot that could be why they don't want to answer the phone. I went to Steak and Shake today in Tupelo and was overwhelmed at the lack of organization, cleanliness, and hospitality! I waited 15 minutes to order a milkshake and finally had to wave at a worker that was standing around on her phone to ask for help. She entered the order, I paid and she turned and walked away. I sat at the bar for another 15 minutes and watched a worker visit with her boyfriend instead of working. I saw a worker take the top off of 3 burgers and lay them on the counter under a heat light with nothing under the sandwich. It sat there the entire time I was. I finally motioned a worker and asked if that was my shake sitting on the counter. The red head kept visiting, and the grill worker finally handed me my shake. Never again.! read more

If I could rate it zero I would. The Taco Salad was not good . The menu said lettuce, tomato, , seasoned beef, shredded cheese, strips of tortilla chips & ranch dressing. I got it to go. It came with large pieces of lettuce (I tore to small pieces) , no tomatoes, about 1/8th cup seasoned beef refrigerator cold, too much shredded cheese (i asked for it on the side), & tons of tortilla strips . While I waited I watched alot of heated conversation between the cashier and kitchen staff. In my hotel room I tried to mske the best of it. I love this franchise and so far, Tupelo is living up to all the others I've visited. All ingredients were fresh and everything was prepared to perfection. It's a little hard to get in and out and they are having some startup pains because it's new, but once the dust settles, eating here should be well worth your while. read more

I attempted to go to this Steak 'n Shake location on Friday night (July 5th). For the sake of brevity, I'll just say I didn't get the chance to eat anything from there, because as I pulled up into the parking lot to go through the drive thru there was a man with a huge orange cone, and he placed it right in front of me and directly behind the vehicle in front of me. I pulled into the parking lot at 9:27/9:28. He told me that was it, he was shutting down the drive thru line, and that the vehicle in front of me was the last one they'd serve. I asked him if he was serious, and he said: "yes, I have to take care of my people and my guests. At this point we may not get out of here until midnight." How is any of that my fault or my concern? When you pull into a parking lot of a FAST FOOD ESTABLISHMENT over 30 minutes before closing time..:you expect to encounter NO problems! Not the case with Steak 'n Shake of Tupelo. They close at 10:00 PM not 9:30. I have never seen anyone, let alone a "general manager" (which is who this man claimed to be) standing outside in a drive thru with an orange cone "shutting it down". How unprofessional and ridiculous! He said I could speak to the owner because he didn't care and he wasn't worried. My main question to this man with the cone was this: "you say you want to take care of your guests? Well, I am attempting to be one of those. You seriously are not going to allow me in the line even though I drove out of my way to come here to try y'all out? I passed so many places coming here, and could have gotten a burger at most of them." He basically dismissed everything I said and then proceeded to try and act like a "tough guy" when I mentioned they already had bad reviews online for several reasons, and that word of mouth still matters in North MS. He claimed he was a native of Tupelo and in the restaurant business for over 30 years! If that's the case...their customer service and relations needs a TOTAL REVAMP! My 2 cents. Go at your own risk! First of all, my bill was $5.45, I gave the cashier $6.00. He informed me I gave Juan too much money. I explained no I didn't since the bill was $5.45. He was like "Oh, you're right. We have just stopped by this restaurant for the second time since it opened a few months ago. The first time, the food was ice cold when we got it. We thought maybe it was because they were still getting adjusted to being a new place (even though they had been opened for weeks).
