Garlic steakburger with a glass of water and a strawberry milkshake.

I have never been to a Steak 'n Shake before, but I still had an idea of what to expect. My friends go to the location in Southaven, and they have told me a lot about what to expect. This Steak 'n Shake seemed to miss the mark of the typical store in this franchise. The parking lot has messed up arrows, so the drive-thru line blocks drivers from leaving the lot itself. You have to turn around in the cramped space in order to exit. The dining area inside is actually quite small too; this is especially noticeable during peak hours like on Sundays at 12:30 when it is almost shoulder to shoulder at the register line/wait line. My first time eating here was last Wednesday (two days after opening), and it could not have gone better. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly. The food was stupendous, and our shakes came out fairly quick. Sunday, however, was lacking. When we were given our food, the server noticed that the garlic butter and seasoning was not on our garlic burgers. She stated "oh they must've forgot to put it on there", and still she proceeded to place them in front of us. We ordered shakes for CARRY OUT, and it took 20 minutes minimum for them to arrive. They were in glasses instead. Not only that, but they were melted down so much so that we could practically drink them like a typical liquid. Our waitress did not offer new ones. Nonetheless, I am going to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt. It is their first week of being open, and there are mistakes and errors to be expected.

Friendly service, nice booth seating with good lighting. Decent family experience. Burgers are good fries are small so ketchup on the side.

Absolutely terrible service. Workers act so lazy and inconsiderate. Definitely will not be back.

No stars. Every single order wrong. Only filled up drinks and shakes halfway. And we're rude when told the order was wrong.

Takes 20 minutes for a wrong order. Doesn't matter when you go, it is always wrong. People are nice, but give me what I order.

I love this franchise and so far, Tupelo is living up to all the others I've visited.

This time around I had the 16 oz Hand Cut Sirloin, with Green Beans and Mixed Vegetables. The meal was excellent and as reasonably priced as you can hope for in the 2026 economy. Service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere was in line with the chain experience.

Our family recently visited Texas Roadhouse and unfortunately the entire experience was extremely…read moredisappointing from start to finish. We arrived around 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was not packed, we didn't have to wait for a table, and there appeared to be plenty of staff working. Despite that, our visit lasted nearly TWO HOURS from the time we were seated until we finally received our check. Our waiter seemed completely unable to manage multiple tasks at once. It took 20 minutes just to receive two Cokes and two sweet teas. Our appetizers took another 30 minutes after that. We didn't even receive our actual meals until about an hour and a half into the experience. What made it even more frustrating was the amount of staff visibly gathered throughout the restaurant laughing, gossiping, and socializing instead of helping customers. It genuinely felt like customer service was the least important thing happening there. The final straw was the restroom situation. The "family restroom" might as well be renamed the employee restroom. My husband and daughter stood waiting while employees continuously went in and out as if it were reserved for staff use only. Then when I entered the women's restroom, it felt more like walking into a high school hallway than a restaurant bathroom. Multiple groups of female employees were gathered inside laughing and gossiping, blocking the space, and after waiting several minutes I realized many of them weren't even waiting for stalls -- they were simply hanging out in the restroom. To top it all off, the food itself was subpar at best. Our steaks were overcooked, and the appetizers tasted like they had been sitting under heat lamps for far too long before ever reaching our table. Every concern, question, or complaint we brought up was met with irritation or complete nonchalance instead of any attempt to correct the situation. Needless to say, our family will NOT be returning to this location.

Visit #1: I ordered the Voo Doo Tots and the prime filet. The tots? Okay, these were amazing. Like, I could've just eaten those and been happy. The steak was a solid prime filet--cooked well and enjoyable, even if it didn't quite steal the show from the tots. Visit #2: I tried the Chef's Charcuterie Board (which, plot twist, is served on a plate... not a board) and the Forklift Fried Chicken. The chicken plate was a little disappointing for me. The collard greens and cornbread were definitely "not how momma made them" (kidding... kind of). Still edible, just not memorable. Both visits left me satisfied, but it's more of a "stroll back" than a "run back" kind of place. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, which always bumps a restaurant up a notch in my book. I didn't try one of their Old Fashioneds--apparently what they're known for--but I did go for the Fire of Mordor cocktail. Tequila-based, delicious, and honestly the name alone sold me. Cozy restaurant, and we had reservations both times even though it wasn't packed. Overall, Forklift is a nice spot to land for a good meal in Tupelo.
